Episode 11- An Old Rival and a Fight

Ash, Serena and Brock are on their way to Fuchsia City, home of the next Pokemon Contest. For now though, they are enjoying some homemade stew that Brock made.

"Brock, this is some lovely stew."

"Thanks. I use my own blends and spices."

"This takes me back. Hey, Brock, remember we had that Taillow incident in Hoenn?"

"Yeah, I remember it quite well."

"What happened?"

"Me, May and her younger brother Max just got started travelling in Hoenn. We were searching for food, so we found some apples. Thing was, it was in a Taillow area, and they were very territorial. Brock came to the rescue, though, fed the Taillow some stew, blasted Team Rocket away, and caught a Taillow that is now a Swellow."

"Sounds like fun."

"Kind of. The Taillow encounter was a little rough though."

All three of them laugh, but all of a sudden, an electrical pulse shoots up into the air.

"Ash, what was that?"

"I think I know what that was. Be right back."

"Where are you going?"

"Somewhere."

"Hmm, that's weird."

"Mm."

Ash goes to investigate that electrical pulse, along with Pikachu, and he finds an Electivire, and along with him a purple-haired trainer from his past.

"Electivire, Thunder!"

A super charged beam of electricial energy shoots up into the air, scaring off the local Pidgey in the area.

"Why are you here?"

"Could ask you the same thing, Paul."

"So I see you still have that Pikachu of yours. Let me guess, still the same level instead of evolving it."

Unlike the anime, Paul is still the arrogant and selfish trainer from the early Diamond & Pearl days.

"Screw you."

Brock and Serena come up from behind Ash.

"There you are, Ash. Was wondering where you went off to."

"And who are you guys?"

"Paul, it's you."

"What do you want, Brock?"

"Hey, I'm just travelling with Ash. Why are you still a prick?"

"Why are you still travelling with that pathetic trainer? And who is she?"

"The name's Serena. The hell is wrong with you?"

"Ah, I see. Three pathetic trainers and their Pokemon."

"What did you say?"

"Come closer and I'll make sure you hear it, loud and clear."

"Alright!"

"Hey, hey, hey, hey…let's calm down a little bit."

"Oh, what's the matter, Ash. Need to have her around because you're scared."

"That's it."

Ash almost charges towards Paul, but Serena and Brock hold him back. Ash is full of rage.

"Alright, that's enough, you two. Serena, go talk with Ash. I'll talk to Paul."

"Okay, Ash let's go."

With Serena and Ash.

"What the hell was that?"

"Long story."

"I'm not letting you leave here until you tell me. I'll listen."

"Fine. Paul was my biggest rival in Sinnoh. He consistently called my Pokemon, along with other trainer's Pokemon, weak or pathetic."

"Sounds like a prick, but I've never seen you that angry before. Why was that?"

"You know that Infernape that I showed you when we were in Pallet Town?"

"Yeah, what about it?"

"That used to be Paul's as a Chimchar. He had met it when it was fending off some Zangoose when its ability, Blaze, was activated. Since he had it, he wanted Chimchar to use Blaze to that effect, to the point where Chimchar only saw blind rage and not like a powered up version of moves."

"That must've been hard to do."

"It was. He is also one of those trainers who doesn't give a damn about feelings, just power. That's exactly the thing he did to Chimchar."

"Oh, damn."

With Paul and Brock

"Don't know why you're following me."

"Because we need to talk. You messed up big time, and Ash will be looking for a fight."

"Let him, I don't care."

"I think you should. That girl, Serena. That's his girlfriend, and he's also gotten older. He's 25 now. He has someone that cares for him "

"And?"

"He knows what'll provoke you, and he also has someone that backs him up."

"What are you saying?"

"I'm saying you should probably apologize."

"For what. I didn't do a damn thing."

"Yeah, you did. Not only did you say some hurtful things towards him, his girlfriend, and his Pokemon, but I'm willing to bet that he hasn't forgotten what you've done in the past."

"Like what?"

"Treating your Pokemon like absolute garbage. You have no feelings, no remorse. All you care about is winning and wanting to make yourself better. It would be one thing if you didn't treat your Pokemon like they're your personal servants, but that's not the case. You only care about yourself, and its at the expense of your Pokemon. You're lucky that Electivire is still with you. You should be ashamed at the way that you're treating your Pokemon. Look at Infernape, and how you treated him as a Chimchar."

"Okay, I get it."

"Look, I've known you for a long time. I know your brother, Reggie. Don't you think it's a little concerning that you get angry at your Pokemon, but yet your brother Reggie, who is older than you are, is compassionate, and caring towards his and your Pokemon. I think you took Brandon's advice to Reggie a bit too literal. What happened?"

"I don't know. You're right, maybe I shouldn't be too demanding on my Pokemon."

"I know you're not necessarily "Mr. Smiley", but I'll tell you this. You can be kind, but be stern when necessary."

"Thanks."

Back to Ash and Serena

"Why did he want Blaze so badly?"

"To increase Chimchar's potential and behavior. When Chimchar was, so to say, on Paul's last leg, me and him were partners through random matchup. Chimchar released him because he was weak, too scared, and he intentionally made Chimchar injure my Turtwig."

"Oh my god. When did you catch Chimchar?"

"Basically right after he released him. He was obviously much happier, but later run-ins were rough. Almost everytime, except for when he evolved into a Monferno, Blaze would activate. It would get to the point where Chimchar could see nothing but blind rage. Probably due to the past trauma. I've never been able to get over it, but Infernape has though."

"If I saw that rage come out due to past trauma, I wouldn't get over it either. Are you calmed down enough to confront him."

"I think I am. Thank you, Serena."

"You're welcome."

They share a quick kiss, then embrace tightly.

"Let's go."

Ash and Serena meet up with Paul and Brock later on.

"Paul, you need to apologize to Ash."

"I know. Hey, Ash?"

"What?"

"I'm sorry for all of the nasty things I've said about you, your girlfriend, and Pokemon in general."

"I don't believe you, but I accept your apology. I hope you change next time we meet, if we do."

Ash, Serena and Brock watch as Paul walks away, but Serena wants to have a quick word with him.

"Hey Paul, wait up!"

"What's up?"

Serena and Paul get close, and Serena pulls him in, and whispers this into his ear.

"You really are an asshole, aren't you?"

"No."

"Yes, you are. Have a nice day."

Serena lets him go, and walks back to the two.

"What was that about?"

"Gave him a little dose of reality."

"Fair enough. Let's forget about this."

"Agreed. Let's head to Fuchsia City."

So, an eventful chapter has happened, with Paul receiving a heavy dose of reality. Will we see Paul again? Who knows. Continue reading this story. Thank you.
