And Love
Chapter 4 Training who?
RMP 12-David
Eddie is driving to their assigned sector.
"Just a question, how would you like me to address you, sir?" She opens with.
Officer Hill looks at her, "What do you mean?"
"Well; partner, Joe, Hill, Sir, what?"
"Well, you are a trainee so partner is a bit premature; Joe seems a little too casual; officer seems too undefined; as I think on it, let's go with partner. Is that ok with you?" He looks at her.
"I'm good with that."
"What did you use with Jameson?"
"Reagan."
"Just Reagan?"
"Yup. That a problem?"
"Nope."
12-David on the air, came over their shoulder mics.
"12-David responding," Joe answered.
"12-David, a domestic disturbance 3 blocks ahead. On the sidewalk, no firearms reported."
"Show 12-David responding," Joe responded to the call.
Officer Hill turned on the lights and siren as Eddie sped up to meet the disturbance.
When they arrived, Eddie slammed on the brakes to bring them to a stop. Joe turned off the siren, leaving the lights on. They could see 4 males shouting and throwing fists. The two officers threw themselves into the middle of the mele, separating the men.
"STAND DOWN!" Eddie shouted. One of the perps tried to throw a punch at her; she immediately grabbed his wrist, twisted his arm behind his back and laid him out on the ground with her knee in the middle of his back.
Joe pulled his asp and had the other 3 guys standing back. He kept his eye on the 3 while Eddie cuffed her would be assailant.
While Eddie maintained control of her perp, Joe began questioning the 3 to ascertain what was the cause of the ruckus.
It turned out that the disagreement was over tickets to the upcoming Yankees vs. Red Sox series at Yankee stadium. All that and 3 men would be charged with public disorderly conduct and 1 with attempted assault of an NYPD officer. Fun times in NYC!

BACK IN THE CAR
Eddie slid behind the wheel again, Joe in the passenger seat.
"Great job there, Janko," Joe offered.
"Thanks, I had a great TO. Think you can match up?" She smirked. Nervously.
"I'll give it my best shot. Did Reagan always let you take charge of a crime scene like that?"
"Ah, not-
"Easy there Eddie. You did nothing wrong, just a little surprising for me. Trainees don't often have that much confidence, is all I'm saying."
"Well, Jam . . . er, Reagan worked hard to instill confidence in me. If I did som-
"No, no, like I said. You did nothing wrong. I just didn't expect that 1st day. Maybe we can do more verbal communicating at first?"
"Good idea, sir!"
"Now that, sir, I'm not fond of. Let's stick with partner, ok?"
"Got it, s . . . partner. Give me a mulligan or two?"
"You got it!"
They bump fists and Eddie drives on.

12-CHARLIE, REAGAN AND WALSH
Jamie is driving, Kara frowning. He slipped out the door of the 12th ahead of her. She vows not to let that happen again.
Kara starts, "So, you and Janko, huh?"
"What are you talking about?"
"I have eyes, and ears. People are talking. A little girl there, hm?"
"Well, Eddie is short but-
"Get off it, Reagan!" Her voice is rising.
"Ok, Eddie and I are friends."
"Come on! You don't get new partners because of friends!" She rolls her eyes.
"Has Eddie told you the story?"
"Somewhat."
"Ah, that doesn't help here Kara."
"You and Eddie have a kid."
"And?"
"I'd like to know how that happened, Reagan."
"Well, when a boy and a girl like-
"Shut up! I've had that speech! What about Jamie and Eddie?"
"Still works."
"GOD, I hate you!"
"That doesn't work."
Kara turns to the window, blows out a big breath and sighs. 'I'll get the story from her, somehow.'

EDDIE'S APARTMENT
"How was your 1st day without me to guide your every move?" Jamie quizzes his girlfriend.
She gives him a scowl, "I found the ladies room all by myself, sport!"
"Good, I was worried."
"No supper for you!" She snorts.
"Daddy does to get supper! I love him!" Mal runs and jumps up onto Jamie's lap as he collapses onto the couch.
"Thank you, sweetie. I love you too, and mommy. She's just being playful; I'll get her later."
"You will? How?"
"Well-
"Yes, how, mister?" Eddie smirks.
"That's a mommy and daddy thing sweetie."
"Like when I am this big?" Mal raises her hand to a height of about 4 feet.
"Yes, about there."
"Ok, daddy. Pizza is coming."
"Good, let's you and I set the table, ok?"
"Ok, let's go!" Mal grabs his hand and pulls him toward the kitchen, giggling all the way.
Eddie watches them go, her heart soaring all the while.

REAGAN SUNDAY DINNER
Eddie and Jamie have decided that it's time to bring Malina along to meet the family. They are sick and tired of the dinner wars; they are hopeful that the little girl's presence will turn the tide. How can anyone misbehave in the presence of such a sweet, young thing?
Frank and Henry have been forewarned; appropriate place settings have been set. Some inquiries were voiced, and ignored.
The family of three arrived 30" ahead of sitting down; Jamie seated them on a LR couch and brought out 2 picture albums. He sat Mal on his lap and Eddie close next to him. He started thru an album, and as family members came by to say hello he would pause for an introduction. Almost everyone had stopped by when Frank called all to the table.
"Dinner is served, come to the table," his voice boomed.
They came and were seated. At the far end of the table was Pops; then Eddie, Malina, then Jamie next to Erin.
Jamie volunteered for the blessing with Malina whispering along, to everyone's surprise. Eddie smiled to herself – 'sock it to 'em baby!'
Erin took the 1st plunge; "Malina, it is so nice to finally meet you!"
"Thank you, auntie Erin." The little girl said softly.
Erin was taken aback; she hadn't been one to introduce herself before sitting down. She had been busy in the kitchen. "How do you know me, sweetie?"
"Mommy showed me your picture, so I would recognize you. You are pretty."
"Oh . . . thank you," Erin was blushing a little.
Score one for Eddie's team!
"Hi, Mal. I'm-
"Uncle Danny, hi." Mal declares.
"Yes, you should have been here long ago." He voices.
"Why?" Mal says simply.
"Well, ah, so we could have met you sooner."
"You know my daddy; he is your brother."
Frank and Pops are sitting back and enjoying this!
"Yes, well, I'm glad you are here today. These two boys are-
"Jack and Sean. And Linda, she is pretty too!"
"Thank you Malina. You fit right in here, you are pretty too," Linda voices. "Welcome!"
"Thank you, auntie Linda."
"Well, let's pass and eat. Shall we," Frank urges.
The meal settles down and passes quickly. After dessert, clean up is assigned and the older kids invite Mal to the sunroom for some games. She chooses UNO and wins. She caught Sean cheating, he was pissed. But couldn't deny it!
After 3 hours, Mal is seriously wilting. Eddie collects her daughter; Jamie collects their things. They put on jackets and are saying good-bye at the front door.
Erin makes a huge mistake. She is hugging Jamie when she whispers, "I hope you and Mal come again soon!" The whisper was like one on stage; most everyone heard it! Jamie stiffens as does Eddie. She and Jamie hurry and hustle Mal out the door and to the car.
ON THE WAY HOME
Jamie gets the 1st word in; "Yes, I heard what Erin said."
"Jamie, I'm so disappointed. I thought we had made so much progress. And Mal, bless her heart."
"I totally agree. I glanced at dad and Pops. They were crushed."
"What do we do now?"
"I think we let the family handle this."
"Really?"
"Yes, they all or almost all heard it. I don't think any of them are happy about it."
"I hope not. I almost feel sorry for your sister. I wish there was something I could do."
LATER IN BED
"Coffee."
"Coffee?"
"Coffee. Take her a large coffee, I'll tell you just how she likes it. Take it to her office some late morning, and offer to talk."
"Hm, that's a thought. Better than anything I was coming up with. Thanks."
"Any time. 1-4-3 always & forever, night babe."
"1-4-3, back at ya. Night lambchop!"
