Mercedes tugged at the blanket covering her as she sat on the extended table. Her leg shook as the door opened, and the Doctor entered the room.

"Hi, I am Shelby Corcoran; I can't believe how grown up you look, Mercedes. I haven't seen you since you were what, 16?"

Mercedes smiled. "Yep, at the awards banquet."

"Your mom has spoken so highly of you."

"She's my mom. She has to do that." Mercedes laughed.

"Eh, not all moms are like that. So down to business, I will be your OBGYN; I have a few questions before we get started. Is this your first pregnancy?"

Mercedes nodded. "It is, but I have a son; I adopted Cody; he's six."

"Okay, and will the father join us…or is this a partnership?" She asked, looking at Santana, who sat next to Mercedes.

"Uh, no, see, she went to this horrible Clinic, and they gave her the wrong sperm. So she needs a new doctor who will actually do right by her."

"Santana!" Mercedes said.

"What? You weren't able to tell her, so I did. Gotta love them loopholes."

Shelby gave her a supporting smile. "I am sorry that happened. But can I assume you are okay with the outcome even if it wasn't what you wanted?"

Mercedes looked at Santana, who took her hand in support. "Yes, I wanted to be a mom, and no matter how it happened, I am excited to see my little one."

"Okay, well, if you lay back, I am going to get the transducer wand, and we will see that little angel."

Mercedes laid back as there was a knock on the door. Shelby gave Mercedes a sweet smile as she stood and walked to the door; after a moment, she turned to Mercedes.

"It seems you have another guest requesting to come in here; he says he's the father."

"Sam's here? Why would he come here?" She asked, looking at Santana.

Shelby looked at her. "If you want him to leave, I can tell him."

Mercedes took a deep breath before she shook her head. "No, he can come in."

"You sure?" Santana asked.

"He is the father, and this is the first time we get to see the baby, besides it's sweet that he showed up, right?

"If I were into sweet, I would say so." Santana shrugged.

Shelby moved to the side, and Sam walked in with a nervous smile. "Thank you for letting me come in."

Mercedes offered him a tight smile. "Just umm, stay above my head." Sam raised an eyebrow til he saw Shelby with the wand. As she covered it, Sam leaned into Mercedes and Santana.

"Did she just put a condom on that thing?"

Santana snickered as Mercedes stared at them. "Can you two get serious?"

"Okay, Mercedes, lie back, you are going to feel some pressure, but that's normal. You are about eight weeks from the blood work and your last period, so we should be able to hear its heartbeat."

Mercedes closed her eyes as Shelby pushed the wand inside of her. She blinked a few times as Shelby focused on the screen. After a few moments of silence, Mercedes started to grow nervous. As if he knew, Sam reached over and took her hand.

"Um, Doctor Corcoran, is everything okay?" Sam asked.

Shelby looked at them and then back to the screen. "Well…" She said, taking a breath. "You know that with implantation, you are implanting multiple embryos with the hope of getting pregnant."

"Yes." Mercedes said, confused. "Were the tests wrong? Because it said I was pregnant and I am having morning sickness."

"Girl, do you have a phantom pregnancy going on?" Santana said.

Mercedes cut her eyes at her.

Shelby smiled. "This isn't a phantom pregnancy, and I am seeing two amniotic sacs."

"So, are you having twins?" Santana asked as her eyes widened.

Sam looked at her, then at the screen. "S-seriously?"

Shelby shook her head. "Actually, you are having triplets. Two are in this sac right here." She said, pointing to the screen, and then you have the other in this one."

Sam squinted. "So what does that mean?"

"It means you will have identical twins, and their sister or brother will be a fraternal triplet. It's common with implantation."

Mercedes breathed deeply, trying her best to remain calm.

"Let's see if we can hear their heartbeats." Shelby said. And within minutes, heartbeats could be heard. She hadn't meant to cry, but she was overwhelmed by the fact she was having triplets and then hearing the heartbeats.

Sam knew Mercedes was pregnant, but hearing the Doctor say they were having triplets didn't shock him as much as hearing those heartbeats. It made everything real, and it made his heart soar to think that he was about to be a dad. Looking over to Mercedes, he couldn't stop himself from hugging her close and kissing her forehead.

"I am going to print these photos for the three of you and then go out front, and Sunshine will get you scheduled for your next appointment. Congratulations, Mom and Dad…Auntie, I guess."

Santana laughed as Shelby removed the wand and printed the photos. "Triplets. Well, I guess all three of us get babies after all."

"I am not sharing my babies with you, Santana." Mercedes laughed.

Sam stared down at Mercedes and cleared his throat. "Three… that's umm."

"You got some strong sperm, Evans." Santana laughed.

As Shelby handed them the photos, Mercedes cleared her throat. "So I need to get dressed."

Sam was so amazed at the photo in his hand; he didn't hear her.

"Sam?"

"Huh?"

She gestured towards the gown and sheet. "I need to change."

"Oh!" He said. "I will be outside…"

As Sam let himself outside, Santana handed her her dress. "Triplets with a man who is a stranger; how are you not freaking the hell out?"

"Oh, I am! I just. I'm having babies."

Santana moved to hug her and smiled. "So about giving me a baby."

Sam paced the floor as he waited for Mercedes to leave the room. He pulled out his phone, taking a breath.

SE: We need a meeting now!

BA: We, as in?

SE: Me, you, Mike, Bas, all of us.

BA: I take it the appointment didn't go as planned?

SE: I will be there in 30.

BA: Be where? Its the middle of the day, and some of us work

SE: Your conference room, I don't have time for this.

He put his phone down as his phone rang; he groaned, seeing it was his mom. He had so much to tell her, but he needed to talk to Mercedes first. Looking at the door, he answered the call.

"Hi, Mom."

"Hi, Sammy! I thought you were coming over yesterday?"

"I was, but Kitty had just returned, and I needed to talk to her about something."

"What's wrong?"

Sam laughed. "What makes you think that there is something wrong?"

"Because I am your mother. Tell me."

Sam swallowed as he looked at the door, wondering when Mercedes was going to walk out. "Mom, I can't really talk to you about this, but I will later, okay?"

"Sammy, what's going on?"

"Mom, I gotta go." Sam hung up and stepped back as the door opened. He smiled as Mercedes walked out wearing a black below-the-knee halter top with a matching black shawl.

"Can I walk you to your car?" Sam asked softly.

"I drove with Santana," Mercedes said softly.

"Oh, I can give you a ride if you don't mind."

Santana looked at her and smiled. "I have to get back to work anyways. But we are celebrating tomorrow, don't forget."

Mercedes hugged her. "I won't." She said softly. "I am going to check out."

Mercedes walked away as Santana turned to Sam. "If you hurt her."

"I know," Sam said.

Santana side-eyed him as she walked away, and Sam walked over to Mercedes. She grabbed her appointment card and turned to Sam. "Ready to go?"

Sam nodded, following her out of the office. "So you didn't drive?"

She shook her head. "No, I was too nervous to drive."

Sam nodded.

Mercedes looked over at him. "I didn't think you were going to show up."

"I know things didn't happen the way we wanted them to, but I wanted to hear the heartbeat or, in our case, heartbeats."

Mercedes walked to the elevator and smiled at Sam. "I am still trying to wrap my head around the fact that we are having triplets, and I still barely know you."

They stepped in, and Sam pressed the button for the garage. "Well, we should change that." Sam said. "Get to know me, and maybe it won't feel as weird."

Mercedes shrugged. "Maybe."

As the doors opened, Sam extended his hand to hers, and she hesitated before linking her arm through his as he led her to his car. "What do you want to know? I am an open book."

"Well, you don't have to tell me if you don't want, but if you didn't want to be a donor, why was your sperm there?"

Sam unclocked his door and opened it but stopped her from getting in. Sam stared down at her. "I, um, went for my annual check, and they found a lump in my thigh; it could have been a tumor or cancer, and the tests were inconclusive. I read and found that lumps could turn cancerous very quickly."

She frowned. "You saved your sperm in case the worst happened?"

Sam nodded. "I told you I have a plan, or rather had a plan."

"Well, you can still have your plans."

Sam's hand moved to her cheek, stroking it gently. "I don't want those plans…I want..."

She stared at him. "You want what?"

Sam leaned in and brushed his lips against hers.

"Sam…what are you doing?" She asked softly.

Sam smiled. "I don't know…" He said, his lips are finding hers in a searing kiss. Mercedes was trapped between him and his car. Against her better judgment, she wrapped her arms around him, pulling him close.

His hands ran up her back, pulling her close as he kissed her deeply, pressing his body against hers. After a few moments, he pulled back, nipping at her lips. "I've been wanting to do that ever since I saw you again."

Mercedes stared at him. "Why?"

His fingers toyed with one of her curls. "I don't know. I am connected to you in a way that I want to kiss you; I want to touch and want you."

"I want you to do all those things too." She said breathlessly.

"Come home with me," Sam said, nipping at her lips.

"What?"

"Come home with me, Mercedes."

Mercedes shook her head with a smile. "You aren't trying just to get me to go home with you, so you lock me in your basement til I give birth, are you?"

Sam laughed, "I promise. I am not trying to kidnap you."

Mercedes was about to say something when the alarm on her phone went off. "Oh… Uh, I have to go get my car, and I have to pick up Cody."

Sam nodded, pulling away from her. "Yeah, I can take you to your car, or I could go with you to pick up Cody."

She shook her head. "What? Sam, why would you want to pick up Cody with me?"

"Well, I'd like to meet him. He is going to be the brother to my children." Sam said, moving her hair from her eyes.

Mercedes worried her bottom lip between her teeth, looking away from him. Standing closer, Sam lifted her face to his, running his finger over her bottom lip, leaning into his lips, and kissing her softly.

"Sam…why do you keep doing this…" She asked, staring at him.

"I'm sorry." he said, backing away from her. "You make me forget myself sometimes."

Mercedes nodded. "I will let you meet Cody, but I am not ready for you to do it now. I want to talk to him about the babies first."

Sam nodded. "Okay, I can respect that."

Mercedes looked at him and offered him a soft smile. "And stop kissing me."

"You like it when I kiss you." He said, leaning and stopping right before he got to her lips. "Or maybe you don't."

Mercedes stared at him for a moment before moving closer to him, lips barely touching his. "Doesn't matter if I do, and we can't..."

"We can…" Sam said, his hands roaming up her body. "Just for the moment."

Mercedes felt her heart race at the feel of his hands as she licked her lips, slowly leaning into him. Her alarm went off as her lips touched him, and the moment was broken. "Shit, I need to get my car now."

Sam stepped back and nodded. "Okay. I will take you now; tell me where it is."

She got into the truck, and he shut the door and walked to the other side. As he got in, he started the car. "Tell me where to go."

"My car is at the Four Seasons; that's where we are staying for now."

Sam looked over at her. "You live in the Four Seasons?"

"I am the guest services Manager and must be available at all hours."

Sam nodded. "I haven't ever met anyone who lives in a hotel. How does Cody like it?"

Mercedes looked at him, "I know that it's not the best place for a six-year-old. But my parents have a big yard that he loves, and I had been saving for a down payment on this beautiful house for years, but now that I have the money…." She stopped talking.

Sam offered her a small smile. "What are you doing with the money?"

Mercedes looked over at him. "It's foolish, like a pipe dream."

"Hey, I like dreams; I got my dream when I started my Tech company."

"How did you do that?"

"Na uh," Sam said with a smile. "I asked you first, then I will tell."

Mercedes glanced at him and sighed. "My family has this huge property on the city's edge; it's big and beautiful but needs a lot of work. My dream is to turn it into a Bed and Breakfast. Get some stables for riding, and have an art studio for creative couple time. Make a Sauna for massages."

Sam stared at her, excited for her; he could feel how much she wanted to create that B&B. "That sounds amazing. I bet it's going to be great!"

"I sure hope so." She said honestly.

"I would love to take a look at it. I used to work construction before my tech company took off, and I can give you some pointers."

Mercedes grinned happily. "Really? That would be great! I want to get started before I get too big and can't finish anything. Now your turn. How did you get your start?"

"Well, I have always loved creating apps and code. One day my friends and I are sitting around talking about what would happen if we created an app that connects you to your friends when you are traveling to prevent kidnappings or missing persons."

Mercedes raised an eyebrow. "That sounds personal. What made you do that?"

"My sister wanted to go to Cancun for Spring break, and I had heard about how all the missing girls who lose touch with their friends."

Mercedes stared at him for a second and then smiled. "Safe Trip is your app?"

Sam nodded. "It is. It launched and took off. I think what made it better was that it was compatible with watches and fitness bands, so you can still be tracked if you don't have your phone."

"I bet you saved a lot of lives with that."

Sam shrugged. "I suppose. After that, we rented space, and ten years later, we are the top-ranking tech company."

"That is amazing. You are a very inspiring man."

"Inspiring?" Sam laughed as he pulled into the parking lot of the four seasons, and Mercedes pointed to the right.

"I am right there, the candy purple Audi."

Sam pulled beside it and shook his head. "You seriously have a purple car?"

Mercedes nodded. "Candy Purple vinyl. It was love at first sight when I saw the color. I had my oldest brother do the vinyl work, and he owns his car shop."

Sam nodded. "Well, he did an amazing job."

Mercedes grabbed her purse. "Thank you for bringing me here."

"Mercedes?"

Sam looked at her, and she offered him a smile. "Yeah?"

"Go out with me tomorrow."

Mercedes's eyes widened. "What? No, I can't. That…this can't happen, Sam."

"Why not?"

"You know why not, Sam? This isn't…no, Sam."

Sam took her hand in his. "Just think about it, okay?"

He kissed the back of her hand and waved as she stepped out of the car. Looking after her, Sam pulled out his phone. He wanted to get a few guys together to check out the B&B for Mercedes. It would be great to have it done before she gave birth; that way, they would have a great place to stay.

Watching her pull away, Sam couldn't help but wish that she would have let him take her. He wanted to know her, all of her. And he was determined to make it happen.
