Chapter 11

Bonnie woke up very early, as she had done every morning in the last few days. She repeatedly had very strange dreams, which disturbed her greatly. The Originals had featured prominently in them, especially Elijah and Hayley.

And she had dreamed of her grandmother Sheila, who had only warned her not to interfere in any way. At first she hadn't known, where she shouldn't intervene or what she meant by that. When she received the call from Vincent, Marcel's lackey, she knew why Sheila had been so vague.

Her first instinct was to help a fellow witch, especially if it was going against Klaus. But then after Damon told her more about Marcel and how he had terrorized and killed the witches of New Orleans, she had refused. To learn that Marcel was Klaus' son was the final incentive to stay out of this matter, she had no desire to mess with the Originals again unless it was absolutely necessary.

Therefore, it surprised Bonnie even more to feel the urgent need to go to New Orleans and see Elijah as soon as she woke this morning. She picked up her cell phone and called Damon, who immediately answered the call.

"Hello, BonBon, how are feeling? Is everything ok?"

Bonnie heard the concern in his voice; she had told him a few things about her wild dreams. "I want to go to New Orleans. Would you accompany me?"

There was a short pause at first, then Damon said carefully. "You know the Originals don't like me much, right? And from what you told me, they must be all in New Orleans now."

"Yes, I know, but I don't want to go to New Orleans unaccompanied", Bonnie replied calmly. "And yes, I also know that you are just a normal human now and that you are taking a big risk with this."

"I don't care about the risk, I've lived long enough." Damon sighed. "All right, I'll come with you. When do you want to leave?"

"Today, it feels urgent, sort of like a compulsion", Bonnie explained. "At least I think that is it what it feels like."

There was another moment of pause. "Okay, give me a few hours. I need to let Elena know we're leaving town for a few days."

"And I'll let Caroline know. Maybe she wants to come with us." Bonnie shrugged, even though Damon couldn't see it.

"She is still depressed after Stefan's death. I don't think she has much desire to see Klaus at the moment," Damon pointed out. "You're still grieving for Enzo too, but if I understand you correctly, you have to go to New Orleans."

"Yes, you understand correctly. Nonetheless, I want to make her the offer at least. Do you think Elena will allow you to accompany me?" Bonnie knew that Elena had barely left Damon's side since she woke up six months ago; she had been quite clingy and possessive.

"I don't need her permission," Damon replied calmly. "Maybe she will use it as an opportunity to finally start her life again. You can hint to Caroline that Elena needs some encouragement. The busybody loves to interfere in other people's lives."

"Good idea." Bonnie had also noticed how much Elena had isolated herself from normal life. Caroline with her pushy nature was exactly the right person to get Elena going.

"I'll pick you up in two hours." Damon hung up.

Bonnie didn't have much to pack as she had only planned to return to Mystic Falls for a few weeks before setting off to her next world trip.

Next, she called Caroline and told her what she was planning to do and why. Like Damon had assumed, she didn't want to see Klaus. However, she agreed to step on Elena's toes a little so that she would finally come out of her hole.

When Damon drove up two hours later and Bonnie got into his car, she only had to take one look at his grim face to know that saying goodbye to Elena hadn't gone well.

"What happened?" She asked sympathetically.

"She said that if I accompanied you to New Orleans, I shouldn't bother to come back", Damon replied depressed.

"You don't have to come with me", Bonnie said gently, offering him a way out.

"I won't let you face the Originals alone. Besides, I won't let Elena blackmail me. In the end, it will only be good for her if I'm no longer here to act as her buffer." There was despite the sadness in Damon's eyes the same determination in them too that had made him such a successful vampire.

Since Bonnie agreed with Damon's assessment, she let the matter go. "How long will we be traveling?"

"We'll at least have an overnight stay in between", Damon replied. "Feels that good for you?"

Bonnie listened to herself. She remembered, how once she'd decided to go to New Orleans, that urgency she'd felt when she'd woken up had faded. Now it didn't increase, which for her meant that it was not so urgent either. "I think so", she said uncertainly.

"Tell me, when it changes. You say it feels like a compulsion. Where you compelled by one vampire?" Damon asked worriedly.

"I can't be compelled by vampires", Bonnie reminded him.

"I know, theoretically." Damon avoided looking at her. "But you have very weird dreams and I know you are kind of nervous, almost fearful. And you were pretty secretive about them."

Bonnie sighed and began to describe them to Damon in more detail.

Damon listened with a frown. "That sounds pretty imaginative with the plants etc. Are you sure that really happened? I mean perhaps you added it yourself for some reason?"

"Believe me, I know how that sounds. And yes, it is entire possible. However, this are the Originals we're talking about", Bonnie pointed out.

Damon grumbled. "Don't remind me. Things always get weird when they're involved."

Bonnie was grateful that Damon didn't mention Silas and her experience with Expression. "Tell me something new." She sighed. "But I'm definitely grateful that you're coming with me."

Damon laughed. "I'll definitely regret it, but whatever. I owe it to you."

Bonnie laughed too. "Luckily for you, I don't collect on that kind of debt."

Next Damon asked about her experiences during their travels and for the next few hours, they talked animatedly about them. Damon also told her some stories about the journeys he had taken as a vampire. However, out of consideration for her, he avoided mentioning certain things.
