Sorry for the lack of updates guys! The real world is determined to get in the way LMAO Ill start posting regularly again! I might even be starting a 2nd story soon!
Alice got with Burnin and was assigned an office on the ground level. She propped the door open and opened some windows, letting in the cool fall air have some sort of cross breeze. Chess sprawled out on the desk as Alice got to work.
"So from what Im seeing here, none of these side kicks know how to actually fill out a patrol report. No wonder nothing is getting done on time." Alice looked at Chess, who yawned in response. "Ill have to make a template or something for them to follow." She turned and began typing on the laptop that Burnin' had given her. "If I can set this up in a different format. This might make patrol reports easier." Alice just groaned as she looked at the stack that the older woman had given her. For such a big agency, they didnt have consistent paperwork rules. She wasnt surprised. Everyone here was so focused on Field work that the paperwork support heroes did always got thrown to the side. Fat Gum was a man who worked closely with the police and his people, even though he wasnt in the top 10. He had access to help if he needed it. They taught him easier ways to run through the system.
Chess looked at her for a moment before he stretched and moved to rub his head against hers. He didnt understand this paperwork stuff, only what he had heard from Alice. The cat wasnt stupid. He just didnt understand why humans had to do this sort of work. Alice ran her hand down his back, sighing softly. "I might have to ask Bakugo for help or I wont be doing any training this week." She pulled out her phone, staring at the screen for a moment before she put it down. This was one of those things that would get in the way of him becoming number 1 hero, wasnt it? She'd be getting in his way again. "Maybe not. I am suppose to be Field support, right?"
Alice glanced down at the papers in front of her. She had thought long and hard about going into field support when she was in the hospital. People liked her as a hero, but due to her past trauma- she'd never be a hero. She would always struggle with some of the simplest tasks. Back home, she had been the top of her class. Canadian Heroes from all over were sending in recommendations to have her at their agency once she had gotten her license, but those had been pulled after the events with The Poacher. The female gritted her teeth, the frustration and anger from working on these shitty patrol reports coupled with the feeling of isolation finally starting to weigh on her. She should be on the field catching low level criminals. She should be training to get better and improve.
Chess coiled around her neck, rubbing his cheek against hers to pull her out of her head. She had her hands in her hair, gripping roughly at the locks. Her jaw was clenched tightly, her breath shallow. The panic attacks came out of no where sometimes.
Alice took a shaky breath and slowly released her hands from her hair. Panicking and getting angry would get her no where. She had to finish this paperwork so she could get on the field and work.
Bakugo was having his own difficult time. Catching low level criminals wasnt as fun as it usually was. He kind of felt bad that he left the girl back at the office to work on the paperwork alone. "FUCK." He snarled the words as he kicked one of the men into the pile they had made from a convenient store robbery.
Todoroki stopped what he was doing and looked at the hot headed male. "You okay?"
"NO! I FEEL FUCKING GUILTY! WHY THE FUCK DO I FEEL GUILTY!" Bakugo clenched his jaw and glared down at the ground.
"Maybe its because you left Alice to work on paperwork by herself?" Todoroki froze the men in place and crossed his arms.
"Shut up Icy-hot! She said she wanted to work on it by herself!" Bakugo hissed the words back, palms popping with small explosions.
"Did she? What I saw was her offering to do the work while you got to run around." Todoroki responded simply, his expression calm. It only made the hothead more angry. So he had been right to feel weird about leaving Alice behind.
Bakugo groaned and gripped his hair, hissing under his breath. "UGH! Are you competent enough to finish up here? Im gonna go back to the Agency." The male turned on his heels, gritting his teeth the entire time. He knew he should have stayed and helped, now he was regretting it.
"Ill be fine." Todoroki sighed softly and pulled out his phone, sending a text out for some extra assistance. That male was such a mystery.
Alice was still at the desk in the office, she had gotten down to a good routine. She'd read the report, plug in the necessary information into the template, and then do the report off that. It took longer, but at least this way it made sense. She had called Burnin' in and told her about the template, to which the female was thrilled about. She had went right to Endeavor to get this implemented. It'd cut down on patrol cases and give the Support people time to work on other things aside from sorting paperwork.
Bakugo stood in the doorway, looking at the girl with an irritated expression. She wasnt even paying attention. Alice had changed into a pair of sweat pants and a tank top, her hoodie threw on the desk so Chess could sleep. Her hair was an absolute mess and she seemed lost in thought reading through a rather long group of patrol notes. The male's anger slowly extinguished. "You still working on the fucking paperwork?" He asked, startling the girl.
"Huh! Oh, hey Bakugo. Is it already 7? Wasnt that when you guys were coming back?" Alice sat up in her chair a bit more, a brow raised.
"No, its only five, you idiot." He snagged a chair and moved to the opposite side of the desk to sit down. "I figured you wouldnt get this done until sometime tomorrow. Might as well help you so you arent exhausted when it comes to doing actual fieldwork." He took a can from his pocket and plopped it on the desk in front of her before he started to take off his gauntlets. "I cant have my partner be fucking exhausted on the field. Even if she is suppose to be support. One wrong move and we are both fucked."
Alice's gaze softened and she took the energy drink, "Thanks Bakugo. Really. This turned into more of a mess than it should have been. None of these sidekicks know how to do paperwork."
Bakugo scoffed and picked up one of the files. "Thats why they are sidekicks and not heroes."
"But they should be able to fill out basic patrol work." Alice grumbled. "Like take a look at this, they didnt fill out any specifics, just that they went downtown and did work." She groaned and threw the paperwork down on the desk. "I made a template for Endeavor to go off of." Chess reached out with a clawed hand to grab a template off the printer. "This makes it easier. Burnin' took it directly to Endeavor to implement. It has the time they were out, the streets they took, any suspicious activity, and any details." Alice handed the paperwork over to him and he looked it over.
The template was actually well detailed, "Huh, not bad Support. This actually would save a lot of time." Bakugo looked surprised, his brows raised. It did make a lot of sense this way. "You could easily fill out any patrol work with this. Color me impressed."
"Ive been having to read through the mess of patrols and put it into the template so I can actually put it into the computer." Alice puffed her cheeks, "But a lot of them require me to research where these fucking idiots were assigned because most of them dont even know what sector to go to."
Bakugo snorted and shook his head, "So you have a routine down, if you want. I can fill out the template with the patrols and you can plug them into the computer. Itll make it faster."
Alice looked up at the male, her gaze hesitant. He didnt have to. She didnt want to get in his way. "Shouldnt you be out doing low level crime busts?"
Bakugo groaned, "Listen, I fucked up. Dont fucking remind me. I shouldnt have left you to this on your own. That was shitty of me." He glared in her direction, a frown on his lips. "Just let me fucking help you and we can get this over with."
Alice blinked at him in surprise, her head tilted slightly. It was weird to see him admit he was wrong. "Okay, sure." She stood and grabbed some of the papers from the pile. "I have these to put into the computer, if you wanna start on this pile. Itll give me enough time to get caught up." She handed him another stack and got to work putting the paperwork into the computer.
"Yeah."
The pair had gotten quiet as they worked. Bakugo asking questions where he needed help and Alice grumbling at the stupidity of the human race. She was glad that Bakugo had come to help her. She would still be working on this crap on Wednesday if it wasnt for him.
They settled into a routine and Burnin' came into check on them later that evening. She had brought them some left over fried rice and veggies, giving the kids something to eat while they worked. Alice kicked back in her chair, popping a carrot in her mouth. "For someone who literally has a fire quirk, the food at his agency is super bland."
"Ugh, you got that right." Bakugo fished around in his tool belt and tossed her a small bottle of Sriracha. "It wont make it better, but it'll at least help with the flavor."
"Thanks. I might start keeping some seasoning salts around, this is a good idea." She put a bit of the sauce on her food and passed it back to him. Alice eyed the boy as they ate. He was a lot easier to be around when someone wasnt pissing him off. She felt her mind wander back to Kirishima and the whole crush conversation. Bakugo wasnt that bad. He was cute when he wasnt screaming bloody murder. The noise always hurt her ears. "Thanks for coming to help me. I mean it, regardless of your excuses or grumbling. I really appreciate the company."
The male made a soft "Tsh." noise from behind his food, but let out a sigh he didnt know he was holding. "No problem. You need to work on being more forceful with what you want tho." He grumbled. "If you wanted company, you should have been straight forward about it."
Alice's voice was soft, "I didnt want to get in your way. If you wanna be the number one hero, you should be out getting stronger. You shouldnt be doing support hero work."
Bakugo froze and looked at the girl with a brow raised. She... really didnt want to get in his way. "You arent getting in my way." He groaned softly, that wasnt the right phrase. The male set down his food and rubbed his face with his hands. "Let me rephrase it for you." He took a deep breath and locked gazes with her. "I dont mind you getting in my way. You arent fucking annoying about it. You do what you can first before you reach out to other people. So just fucking ask me for help next time."
Alice studied his expression for a moment. She had a lot she wanted to say to him. She wanted to be friends, its why she was so cautious about getting in his way. He was shout-y and usually didnt let people talk. Why was he being nice to her? Why did he even give her the time of day? He was so adamant about being the number one pro hero, why was he giving someone who was just field support a second glance. She felt a smile tug at the edge of her lips regardless of the millions of thoughts that ran through her mind. "Thanks, Bakugo. I didnt know you could be sweet when you wanted."
Bakugo stared at her for a moment before a smile also tugged at the corner of his mouth, "Dont fucking mention it. I dont need my reputation as a badass going down the drain."
The pair worked on the patrol cases well into the middle of the night. Alice hadnt even realized it was close to 1am until she glanced up to Bakugo passed out in the chair across from her. They had gotten almost all of them done, aside from maybe a dozen or so. She'd finish them before she went to bed, but first she had to wake the male up. He looked exhausted. He had been doing training with Gang Orca and then Burnin'- no wonder he had passed out early.
"Hey, Bakugo." She called out to him, but he didnt respond. The male was just passed out in the chair, his head on his hand. "Bakugoooo." She tried again, but he didnt respond. Alice stood, he was such a hard sleeper. It was amusing. She headed around the table, gently nudging his arm. "Bakugo, its like 1am. You gotta head to bed."
"Mmm, I dont gotta do jack shit." He grumbled, but sleepily looked up at the girl who had crouched down next to him. "What time is it?" The male's voice slurred a bit and he sat up.
Alice mused, "A bit past 1am." She reached out and ruffled his hair. "Im going to finish up this paperwork and head to bed myself.
Bakugo swatted sleepily at her, but slowly got to his feet. "Kay." He stretched his arms above his head. He didnt move from standing in front of her though. He just stared at her for a long moment, his red gaze wasnt hostile like it normally was. "Do you need help?"
"Nah, There are just a few more." Alice tried to step around him, but he leaned forward to get into her face.
"Are you sure? Or are you lying again."
Alice's face heated up and she swallowed thickly, "Im positive! Promise!"
Bakugo snorted, a faint smirk on his lips. "Ill trust you this time." He reached out and ruffled her hair playfully, heading towards the door with a wave over his shoulder.
