"How's school?" Eleanor asked in concern.
"Good." Sue replied.
"Great." Eleanor replied.
Sue went upstairs to her room, she got her bags & laptop computer, as Sue went downstairs to the living room. Eleanor & Edward walked out of her home to put the bags in the car… Sue walked out of her home to put the bags in Sue's car, as Sierra was playing with a Rubik's Cube on the rear of Sue's car… Edward was about to shut the rear hatch, Eleanor quickly stood up. "Hi, Mom. Hi, Dad." Sue replied.
"Hi, girls." Edward replied with a voice.
"This is where your grandfather lived." Eleanor replied with a voice.
"And died." Sue replied.
"Come on. Not getting a single bar?" Sierra asked in concern, as she was exasperated on not getting her phone.
"There'd had better be a bar." Edward replied with a voice.
"That's funny." Sue replied, as she scoffed.
"Too." Eleanor replied with a voice.
(Later, at the Farmhouse…)
They passed by farmland. The Snell's all three cars on the street. Sue, Eleanor, Edward, & Sierra turned up a driveway. The Snells soon arrived at the Farmhouse after a few days on the road at Chamberlain. There were improvised signs of wood and sheet metal flashing propped up.
A part of a quote from Revelations 6:12 was spray painted on each of them in yellow. Sue read the quote aloud:
BEHOLD, THERE WAS A GREAT EARTHQUAKE. THE SUN BECAME AS BLACK AS CLOTH, THE SEAS BOILED, THE MOON BECAME AS BLOOD, THE SKIES FELL. REVELATION 6:12.
"Behold, there was a great earthquake. The sun became as black as cloth, the seas boiled, the Moon became as blood, the skies fell. Revelation 6:12." Sue replied.
They quote at the entrance.
"That was normal." Sue replied.
The yellow read note:
THIS IS HOW IT ENDS.
"Hey, maybe it's a good thing you never met your dad." Edward replied with a voice.
The Snells to the road to the Farmhouse.
"Great. You didn't tell us we inherited a murder house." Sierra replied, as she got out of the car, took one look at the Farmhouse, she grabbed her backpack & walked.
Sue grabbed her handbag & looked around, it read "DIRT" was tagged in yellow on the side of a slowly collapsing barn.
"And just think." Eleanor replied.
Sue pulled close to the door of her car.
"Now all of this is ours." Sierra replied, as she turned around.
Sue shielded her eyes from the Sun with her hand and looked up at the many satellites on the roof, Edward tried to open the front door but it was locked, Eleanor bent over, lifted up the mat and looked for a key.
"Sue, be a dear and break into your grandfather's house." Eleanor replied.
Eleanor & Edward walked around and tried to look through the window, Sue knelt in front of the door and picked the lock… Sierra walked around to get a signal on her phone. She noticed the rusted cars in various states of salvage. Sue got the door open for lock clicks…
"Nice." Eleanor replied.
"Oh, boy." Edward replied.
Eleanor & Edward were pleased but took one look at the interior and became concerned.
"Not a single photo." Eleanor replied.
Sue looked up at something in the house. Eleanor & Edward headed to the room on the immediate left, the study. Eleanor scoffed at the lack of any photographs. Eleanor & Edward looked at a tall stack of books taller than her. Sue looked up at a sequence of numbers carved on the boards near the ceiling, part of the sequence of years read: "...381 1432 1501 1596 1607 1782 182…" Eleanor & Edward looked at the armchair and the rips and thought it was rats.
"Rats." Eleanor replied.
"Yeah." Edward replied.
Sue picked up a miniature statue of Zuul standing on two legs… Sierra walked inside and stepped into the house.
"You gotta see the gold mine of junk I found out back." Sierra replied.
"Great." Eleanor replied.
"Good." Edward replied.
"Oh, my God, this is much worse than I thought it was gonna be." Sierra replied.
Sierra walked and looked around and realized the house was worse than he thought it was going be, Sierra turned around more than Sue thought…
*RUMBLING*
The house started to shake… Eleanor & Edward looked down & realized it was an Earthquake and ordered Sue & Sierra to turn around.
"Under the dining table NOW!" Edward replied, as he turned to Sue & Sierra.
"COME HERE!" Eleanor yelled to her daughters.
Sue & Sierra turned to her parents. Sue picked down a miniature statue of Zuul, Sierra dropped backpack, the girls were running & hiding the table.
"Sue." Eleanor replied, as she hid with Sue hiding the table.
The Snells look around to see the earthquake.
"Remember that summer we died under a table?" Sierra asked in concern.
"Of course this place is built on a fault line." Edward replied.
"Probably just fracking." Sue replied.
"It's fracking annoying, is what it is." Eleanor replied.
The Earthquake stopped.
"It's okay, we're only here for a week." Sierra replied.
"Um... Give or take." Eleanor replied.
Sue, Sierra, & Edward looked turned at Eleanor.
"What does that mean?" Sierra asked in concern.
"It means we're staying." Eleanor replied, she turned to Sierra.
"You said we'd only be here for a week!" Sierra replied.
Sue noticed the P.K.E. Meter, still under the armchair…
"Yeah, well, that was before we got evicted." Edward replied.
Sue stepped out from under the table & went over and grabbed it.
"You said you had money saved up." Sierra replied.
"That was before I had children." Eleanor replied.
Eleanor & Edward stepped out from under the table. Sierra hit her head on the table.
"To be fair, you've never been good with money." Sue replied and pointed out to her mother.
"Thanks, Sue." Eleanor replied to her daughter.
"Good thinking." Edward replied to her daughter.
Sue held the P.K.E. Meter. Sierra walked over to her sister. Eleanor & Edward turn & support.
"What's that?" Sierra asked in concern.
"How am I supposed to know?" Sue asked in concern.
Sierra grabbed at the top of the meter but Sue pulled it out of her grasp. After another earthquake rocked Chamberlain, Maine. The woman walked in through the front door & inside the Farmhouse and was surprised to see Edward, Eleanor, Sue, & Sierra inside already…
"Can I help you two?" The elderly woman asked in concern.
Eleanor & Edward turned to her... The elderly woman in red glasses, some casual clothing, looking to be in her late 60s to early 70s, and with aqua blue eyes.
The elderly woman looked at Sue & Sierra. Sierra sat on the armchair, she looked back to Eleanor & Edward. Eleanor was at a loss for words and eventually blurted out the house was her father's.
"Uh- Hi. We're the, um- The- This was my father's place." Eleanor replied.
The elderly woman turned and looked at Sue & Sierra again and waved.
"Hi." The elderly woman replied.
"Hi." Sierra replied.
"Hi." Sue replied.
They greeted her back.
"I'm Janine Melnitz. We spoke on the phone. I was your father's- You know, we were friends. Very sorry for your loss." Janine introduced herself.
"It's okay. You knew him better than me." Eleanor replied.
"We should be sorry for your loss." Edward replied.
"I just tried to keep the bills paid on time, that kind of thing." Janine replied, downplayed her role and claimed.
"Like a money manager?" Eleanor asked in concern.
"There was no money to manage. He could barely keep the power on." Janine replied.
Sue & Sierra exchanged looks.
"So he left us nothing?" Edward asked in concern.
"Well, I wouldn't say that." Janine replied.
Janine disagreed. She walked closer towards Eleanor & Edward and revealed.
"There was quite a bit of debt." Janine replied.
Eleanor & Edward were stunned. Sue & Sierra looked at them.
"Ms. Melnitz, I'm here to sign forms, pack the silverware and leave with a rent check." Eleanor replied.
"Are you telling us this place is worthless?" Edward asked in concern.
"You mean, aside from the sentimental value?" Janine asked in concern.
