Different Perspectives Chapter 3

The Third Hunger Games

District 1:

Hermes Steenson, 14.

Three days. Three days since Elizabeth Plantagent and Ethelbert King entered the City Arena, and now, just Ethelbert was left alive. Elizabeth was killed by a crossbow when the boy from District 5 wrestled the weapon from her. Ethelbert killed the boy from 12, Basil, as he attempted to look for a place to hide. Apart from Elizabeth and the boy from 12, District 3 had lost both their Tributes, the boy dying from injury yesterday and the girl killed herself a few hours ago. Both of District 4's Tributes are still alive, but Denny and her District Partner Horatio look to be on the brink of starvation. Evie of District 5 was dead, but Keanu Westwood was still alive. District 6 will have both of it's Tributes return in a wooden box, Saffie from the injuries she sustained while in the Stables and Duncan dying of blood loss after the District 2 Tributes ambushed him. Neither Selene or Ash from District 7 lived to see the third day in the Arena, Selene dying of starvation and Ash dying from an illness. Both of District 8's Tributes are dead, killed in the fighting at the Weapons Pile, the same with District 9. Summer died in the fighting at the Weapons Pile, while Jussi died from the injuries he had while in the Stables. Beatrice of District 10 was dead, while her District Partner was alive. Tor of District 11 was another goner, while I haven't seen Ginny since the start of the Games. Perhaps she hid herself? I thought the camera panned towards the dying District 4 Tributes.

District 2:

Paris Curl, 14

Arianna Birdwell and Hercules Roberts are still alive, which is more than can be said for the fifteen other kids that lay dead on the field. Actually, make that seventeen, I thought as Denny and Horatio of District 4 lay dead on the ground. I watched the screen as Arianna, knife in hand, decides to hunt for any remaining Tributes. Within seconds she let out a scream as a crossbow bolt hit her in the chest. By the time Hercules reached her side she was gone as the boy from Five, still with his crossbow, ran. I decided to go up and see my little sister, Hestia, who is still in bed with a cold. Going in the kitchen, I filled a hot water bottle and took it into her room. "Hestia, here's your bottle" I whispered as she grabbed onto it and placeed it under the duvet. "Arianna isn't coming back" I muttered as I left the room

District 3:

Thor Chang, 10

This was not District 3's year, I thought. Wilbert, Natasha, Yuna, Quint, Juliana, Clemont. All dead. District 3 seems to have the worst luck in the Games, as our Tributes tend to get killed or die early. The camera was now turned towards Ethelbert, the powerful District 1 male, as he struggled with a bandage on his arm. As hours pass by I watched in horror as Ethelbert slowly dies, the infection claiming his life. Five left. I thought. Hercules from 2, Keanu from 5, Quentin from 10, Ginny from 11 and June from 12.

District 4:

Tethys Claxton, 11

Watching the screen, I thought back to the past couple of hours. Denny, Horatio and Ethelbert are all dead, I reminded myself as the camera turned to Quentin of District 10. I heard my mum call me to dinner and I left the living room.

District 5:

Gwen Maxwell, 12

"Come on Keanu" I yelled as Keanu Westwood wandered around the Arena. A girl, with a Seam look to her, approached him. I expect people from my District will be rooting for Keanu.

District 6:

Darla Markham, 12

"Allies?" I heard Keanu say to the District 12 girl. The girl muttered "Yes" as the two Tributes shook hands.

District 7:

Jonathon Scott, 12

Four left, I thought. District 10's out of the running. Ash and Selene are both dead, another group of teens returning home in a coffin, to be forgotten and discarded.

District 8:

Lacey Scholfield, 9

It has been some time since Ginny Canova emerged from hiding, and I wonder if she had died. Quentin of District 10 had starved to death not so long ago. On cue, Ginny emerged before hiding again.

District 9:

Wheat Murdoch, 15

"I don't want Faith or the Hennessey Twins to go through this" The District 12 girl, June, sobbed as Keanu hugged his ally tightly as I started to yawn. "I'm going to bed mum" I told her as I walked up the stairs.

District 10:

Korden Baker, 9

As the District 5 boy and District 12 girl walked towards the centre circle, I saw the tall District 2 male. The District 5 boy muttered something to his ally, and the girl sprinted off as the boy started to fight the larger Tribute. The smaller boy from 5 managed to strike the boy from 2's arm with a knife, however the boy from 2 grabbed his sword with the other arm and plunged it into the stomach of the boy from 5. The boy from 5 collapsed as the girl from 12 made her attack.

District 11:

Fredrick Hardman, 8

We watched in silence as Hercules drilled his knife into June's chest. Behind the District 2 male lay the corpse of Keanu Westwood, a stab wound to the stomach. Ginny was nowhere to be seen, and on the screen, I watched in horror as Hercules collapsed on the ground. Hours later, he lay on the ground dead, as Ginny emerged from her hiding place.

District 12:

Claire McNarama, 12

The camera panned over Hercules' and June's bodies as Ginny walked to the centre of the field. The District 11 girl was relieved to be out of the Arena alive. But little did I know, that in the next street in The Seam, a fifteen year old boy was planning something, something that would change the course of Hunger Games history.

So we have it, the first chapter in Different Perspectives told from each of the Districts. A bit of foreshadowing at the end there
