Day 19 - Sobbing
A/N: "Just like you wanted, Doc." A short examination of this scene from the ending of Part III.
He wasn't sure where the sudden explosion of emotions came from.
Was it because he had finally returned to his correct time?
Was it because he'd just endured two weeks of hell trying to sort out the space time continuum and had run out of steam?
Was it because he'd been two seconds from becoming another puddle on the tracks?
He'd spent a good ten minutes hyperventilating among the bushes alongside the rails, struggling to regain control of himself after surviving such a close encounter with death. Although the leap back from the Delorean had aggravated some of his half-healed injuries, he could barely feel them aching over the intense pounding of his terrified heart.
Despite the attempts to tell himself that he was fine, he still couldn't calm himself. His eyes remained fixed on the twisted ruins of the time machine, his brain refusing to accept the fact that he had escaped.
I'm supposed to be dead.
That train should've gone over me.
He shivered. I guess this is what Doc must feel.
Doc…
A familiar pricking in his eyes returned. He felt his lips wobble as he realised the cruel irony of the situation. I can go to the library and find out what happened to him, but he'll never know-
Marty gasped as he let out a cry. Why did Clara have to be on the train?! He could've come home!
You're being an asshole, McFly. Doc finally finds the woman of his dreams and here you are bitching about it because he's not here with you.
But he wasn't supposed to fall in love!
The teenager wiped his eyes on his poncho, ignoring the irritating dust and foul body odour as he sobbed into the fabric. He may have finally returned home, but he still knew nothing of this new timeline he'd created. His family, his friends, his teachers; everyone was now a stranger.
Even himself. What were the characteristics of this timeline's Marty? How was he supposed to act? Had his ambitions in life changed?
And the only person who understood any of these thoughts was now gone, condemned to permanently live out his days with his newfound love.
It was finished.
Well Doc, it's just like you wanted. It's destroyed.
And so is any chance of seeing you again.
He pulled his knees up to his chest, hugging himself tightly.
Goodbye…
