The Sorcerer Hero: Deku
Chapter twenty-four: The raid part one- not what they expected
It was nighttime when Ainz, with his illusion spell up to make him look like his skeletal self wearing the royal orange robe with the hood, plus the iron gauntlets and the Mask of Jealousy, was sitting at his desk in the Shie Hassaikai compound. Kurono, who runs the Shie Hassaikai for Ainz when he or someone appointed by Ainz isn't around, was taking inventory of all that was in one of the filing cabinets in the office.
The reason why is because the compound they were at had been compromised, so it was going to be abandoned. Luckily, Ainz had the foresight to have a second comparable compound built in a more remote location, so the Shie Hassaikai organization will move their operations there. Ainz when he checked on the progress of the second compound's construction was surprised to hear that it was finished.
As such, as soon as things were ready, the Shie Hassaikai was moving. Ainz still had a use for the first Shie Hassaikai compound, though, a use that will give the pro heroes trying to breathe down the neck of Ainz Ooal Gown a right nasty surprise. It was as Ainz contemplated the upcoming move for the Shie Hassaikai that Rappa entered the office. "Hey Kurono," Rappa began as he entered, "I was hop- oh!"
Ainz could tell that Rappa stopped upon seeing him. "Is something the matter, Rappa?" asked Ainz.
"I actually came here to see if Kurono could let you know I wanted to speak with you, boss man," Rappa said, "But since you're here, I can just talk to you myself if you got the time."
"Is there a concern you wish to raise to me?" Ainz asked.
Gently shaking his head, Rappa replied, "On the contrary. I actually visited where Anisawa and Buwubara are raising the little girl that prick Chisaki was tormenting. They also got two new kids that they told me you entrusted to their care."
"Ah yes, Eri and the Shimono siblings," Ainz said, "I take it you like what you saw?"
"The little girl looks perfectly happy," Rappa said, "No worries or fears. She's wearing good clothes that aren't threadbare rags, she's clean, and she doesn't have a starved, thin look to her which makes it clear she's eating well. Also, her horn is missing and her ears now resemble cat ears, also she has a cat tail now."
That part didn't surprise Ainz, as he took Rewind from Eri and replaced it with a simple mutation quirk that turned Eri's ears into cat ears and gave her a cat tail. Aside from that, Ainz was able to tell that Rappa liked what he was saying he saw Rem and Chocho doing for raising Eri. "I'm guessing that you like how Ms. Anisawa and Ms. Buwubara are raising Eri?" Ainz asked.
"What all I saw was a sign you're loads better than the prick who used to run this show," Rappa said, "All that the girls are doing for the little girl, for those other two kids, couldn't have been possible if it weren't for you, boss man. You're a real chill dude."
Ainz nodded once in understanding. "Never let it be said that I don't look out for those under the care of my authority." Changing the subject, Ainz said, "Now Mr. Rappa, as I'm certain you must be aware, we're going to be abandoning this compound for a comparable one I've had built in a more remote location. This compound has been compromised as the heroes are aware of it."
Folding his arms over his well toned chest, Rappa said, "Yeah, I got the gist of that from Setsuno. What will we do with this old place, then?"
Not that Rappa could see it due to the Mask of Jealousy, but Ainz had an amused glint appear in his eyes. "...Set a trap for those who would try to get in our way."
A few nights later, two thugs with Gigantification quirks went giant and had a slug fest against one another in a city. As the two giant thugs fought, Nejire in her hero costume flew in and struck them down with energy waves that she had cast. "Are you guys fighting each other because you can both turn giant?" asked Nejire, "That's pretty boring."
As Nejire subdued the giant thugs, they tried getting up, but a combo attack from Ochaco and Tsuyu helped push them back down, followed by Ainz coming in and hitting them with (restrained) Fireballs. Both thugs were knocked out and shrank back down to normal as Nejire and her junior hero students gathered around. "Great job, you three!" Nejire praised, "We took out the giant thugs!"
"Nejire has a point, you three," Ryukyu said as she walked up, "You had handled that quite well."
Turning to look at Ryukyu, Nejire said, "Hey Ryukyu, do you think that they're ready for the secret thing you mentioned?"
A look of concern entered the eyes of the Dragon Hero. "...Yes, but I'll be wanting them to stand back at least at first," Ryukyu replied, "Until I'm certain of things, I don't want any of them to be on the front lines."
Ochaco looked curious about what Ryukyu said. "What do you mean?"
Turning to look at the first years, Ryukyu said, "A former sidekick of All Might's is throwing together a big meeting tomorrow. It'll go over an important plan for making a big move against the villainous element trying to take root in Japan. I'm not sure if I'd bring any of you, even Nejire, in on it, but due to the climate of danger, as many pairs of hands as possible are needed on deck."
The hero students all looked amazed that they were being brought in on something. Ainz was particularly interested in the fact a former sidekick of All Might's was the host of the gathering, as he wasn't aware of much All Might having had a sidekick. Ainz was wanting to see where this could potentially lead, especially as it had some degree of connection to All Might himself.
The next day, Ainz followed along behind Ryukyu and Nejire with Ochaco and Tsuyu next to him as the lot of them walked into the hero agency managed by one Sir Nighteye. Ainz made note of the name, especially as it's the name that's the reason why one of the organizations in the second New World that swore fidelity to him has to move base sooner than expected. However, upon entering the agency, Ainz was surprised to see that there were a number of guests.
The most obvious ones being Aizawa and Shinso.
"Oh, Eraserhead," Ryukyu greeted, "You're being called in on this too?"
"Sir Nighteye seems to think that the people he's been investigating since well before the current school year at U.A. started are a dangerous lot," Aizawa replied, "Granted, I would bet good money on the people Sir Nighteye has been investigating being nowhere near as bad as the League of Villains, especially given they have those nomu things and those monsters that we now know are called Black Paladins. But all people of villainous intent ought to be taken seriously."
Nejire gulped nervously. "Yeah, I first saw those Black Paladins in a news video that was taken during the chaos in Hosu. They... they were terrifying. And my friend Yuyu told me a lot of people who were at the diner her family owns saw that stuff on the wall mounted TV when it was a breaking news report. Several patrons soiled themselves at Yuyu's family's diner out of sheer fright over seeing the Black Paladins. Cleaning the booths was very gross for Yuyu."
"TMI, Hado-senpai," Shinso said, a mildly annoyed look on his face.
Shrugging, Aizawa said, "Well at least we aren't going to deal with any Black Paladins, because I got it that the group that Sir Nighteye has been investigating are NOT the League of Villains." Within short order, a hero working at Sir Nighteye's agency called Bubble Girl said that the meeting was ready to begin. As such, all of the heroes and hero students went in to see how things were going to be playing out for the plan Sir Nighteye had.
...
Ainz was further surprised to see Kirishima there with Tamaki and the pro hero Fat Gum. Seeing the BMI Hero reminded Ainz that he wanted to see what would happen if Fat Gum got a copy of the Stout Strength quirk. Ainz also saw Mirio there as well, and he had a passing thought on how the blonde buff senpai was doing since the snuck in dose of Quirk Capacity Potion had helped to ease the pain of Mirio's Quirk Overload Sickness.
Everyone was seated at the table in the meeting room, and Sir Nighteye took the lead spot at the end of the table. Ainz recognized Sir Nighteye from that one time he spied on All Might; Sir Nighteye is the salaryman hero from that meeting. Ainz also saw that the short older hero from that very same meeting was also at this meeting here. The Sorcerer King was going to be wanting to learn more about all of this.
"Thank you all for coming," Sir Nighteye began, "As you all ought to have been made aware of, my agency has been investigating the activities of a villainous group called the Shie Hassaikai for well over two years by this point. The investigation had been going as planned, up until about ten or so months prior to the beginning of the current school year."
"Why, what happened?" Fat Gum asked.
Sir Nighteye turned on a slide show, with the first slide showing a Quirk Destroying Bullet albeit an imperfect one. "My investigations had led me to uncover that the Shie Hassaikai had been working on a drug that, when administered to a person with a quirk, permanently kills their quirk and as such renders the victim quirkless. However, there was never any evidence uncovered suggesting that the Shie Hassaikai made anything aside from a weaker version that simply shut off the victim's quirk for a few hours."
The gathered heroes were all nervous; Ainz wasn't but he was able to bluff that he was quite well. "Why would the Shie Hassaikai want to wipe out quirks like that?" asked a pro hero called Mr. Brave.
"I wasn't able to uncover that," Sir Nighteye replied, "And I don't think anyone ever will because the Shie Hassaikai have taken a sudden pro-quirk shift, sudden to the point I believe the organization is under management different to what my investigations had turned up." Sir Nighteye changed the slide to show a photo of the late Kai Chisaki. "This man here, one Kai Chisaki, is the last known head of the Shie Hassaikai."
"What's so special about him?" asked a pro hero called Rock Lock.
"My investigations had turned up that Chisaki has a hatred for quirks," Sir Nighteye said, "He views them as a plague on humanity. No doubt that he is the mind behind the drug to kill quirks." With a gentle shake of his head, "But given the shifts in the way the Shie Hassaikai have been operating, I have reason to believe that Chisaki no longer heads the Shie Hassaikai."
Folding his arms over his chest, Aizawa asked, "What makes you say that?"
Sir Nighteye changed the slideshow to the next slide, which showed a vial of the drug Trigger. "The Shie Hassaikai, in addition to going from an anti-quirk stance to a pro-quirk stance, has ramped up its dealings in the trade of an illegal drug called Trigger, which temporarily bolsters the power of the quirk of the user. I believe that Fat Gum and his interns dealt with a thug last night who amped up his quirk with Trigger."
"Oh yeah, I heard about that," Ryukyu remarked, sounding impressed, "You and your interns did excellent work, Fat Gum."
"The boys did a lot of the work to be honest," Fat Gum said, "I just stepped in when Red here had the thug beaten to help him clean up shop.
Looking to Sir Nighteye, Mr. Brave said, "You mentioned that the Shie Hassaikai had switched from an anti-quirk mindset to a pro-quirk mindset. What does that mean for the production of that evil drug you said is designed to kill quirks?"
"The management of the Shie Hassaikai gathered up all doses that were out there," Sir Nighteye began, "And not once has there been a report that someone's quirk wasn't working. In fact, several pro heroes who reported their quirks not working had recovered and their quirks are working again. This is pure speculation on my part, but I have reason to believe the management that is running the Shie Hassaikai has ceased production of their evil drug and destroyed all doses."
"Villains working on a drug that can kill quirks not only stopped production of said drugs, but rounded up all doses of said drug and destroyed the lot," Rock Lock said, sounding a bit skeptical, "Why would they do that?"
"Bubble Girl came up with a theory on that," Sir Nighteye replied, "She thinks that the Shie Hassaikai had ceased production of their evil drug that kills quirks, while simultaneously amping up their work in the Trigger trade, because they're focusing more on generating income."
Ainz was surprised that Bubble Girl had been so accurate with her theory, but he kept his expression neutral so as to not give anything away. "So in the end, they're just a criminal organization with a lust for money," Mr. Brave said, "Typical."
"And that is what leads me to why I think the Shie Hassaikai is under new management," began Sir Nighteye, "The profile I had built up for Chisaki shows that getting rid of quirks is his passion. He's obsessed with it to the point there's no way he'd ever change his mind. It's my theory that Chisaki had been killed, and his killer took over the Shie Hassaikai and is leading it in a direction that is pro-quirk and focused on generating income."
Rock Lock arched a why eyebrow at that. "What would this supposed new leader of the Shie Hassaikai want out of the direction they're leading the organization in now?"
Gently shaking his head, Sir Nighteye replied, "I have no clue. Which is why the raid I'm going to be leading on the confirmed Shie Hassaikai compound will have the main goal of looking for and taking the theorized new leader so we can interrogate him or her." Although he didn't show it, Ainz was greatly amused by how things were going. He didn't even have to manipulate things into going this way, they did so on their own.
The heroes, rather than having to be led into a trap, were going to be willingly albeit unknowingly walking right into a trap.
...
"The Shie Hassaikai sound like they're just regular ol' thugs in the end who want nothing more than to line their pockets," Nejire said as she spoke with her fellow hero students after the meeting, "The heroes have this one in the bag!"
"We shouldn't be too sure, Hado-senpai," Shinso said, "Knowing the villains we're dealing with, they could very well have enough rank and file to outnumber what force we try to throw at them when the time comes for the raid."
Shrugging, Tamaki said, "At least we won't be dealing with the League of Villains. I'd hate to have to cross them and their Black Paladins..."
Folding his arms over his chest, Kirishima said, "I can't blame you, Amajiki-senpai. Even one of them is a walking nightmare. But there were two at the Provisional License Exams, three in Hosu, and according to Baku-bro six in the incident at Aldera Junior High."
Turning to look at Ainz, Ochaco said, "Hey Izuku, didn't you destroy the two Black Paladins that were at the Provisional License Exams? Bakugo also said you destroyed five of the six at the incident that occurred at Aldera."
The Big Three all looked at Ainz with looks of surprise. "You... you can actually match those things in combat, Midoriya?!" Tamaki said, looking mildly frightened of Ainz, "Holy geez! No wonder you were one of the few in your class to last the whole of the sparring match you guys had with Mirio!"
"I just kept a distance and lobbed attacks with my quirk at them," Ainz said, "It's no big deal."
"Izuku also drove off the big villain from the attack on the Provisional License Exams," Ochaco went on, "The one who looked like a demon ogre samurai and led things for Dabi."
Tamaki looked more surprised... and more frightened. "Even the Black Paladins from the attack both deferred to that guy. And Midoriya was able to drive him off."
"That just tells us that even if the League of Villains are involved," Kirishima said, "That the heroes will STILL succeed with the raid!" The others all nodded along in agreement, all of them voicing their confidence in Ainz. The Sorcerer King saw that even Mirio was nodding in respect to him. This was good, as others were already starting to flock around Izuku Midoriya. Even his upperclassmen saw him as a pillar of strength to rally around.
Ainz, although he didn't show it, liked this. It would make the raid when it occurred all the better for upping his reputation.
As per the word of Sir Nighteye, the U.A. students who were in on things were barred from discussing what all they knew with their peers. "It's secret hero work, Earplugs," Bakugo said when Jiro tried drilling Kirishima for details while the students were relaxing in their dorm building, "Leave Stupid Hair and the others be."
"Kacchan has a point," Ainz said to Jiro, "We aren't exactly at liberty to discuss what all went on at the meeting we attended."
"Fine, you don't have to get in my face about it," Jiro huffed as she folded her arms over her chest.
Turning to look at Ainz, Ojiro asked, "Can you at least tell us that all of you will be fine when all is said and done?"
"This is gonna be real hero work, Ojiro," Tsuyu said, "We can't make any guarantees of safely getting out of things here kero. But we will try our best."
Ojiro nodded once in understanding. "That's all I ask." Ainz saw that all Ojiro wanted out of the secret hero work that he (Ainz) and the others were going to be getting up to was for all of them to be alright by the time everything is done. Not pushing for secret details unlike Jiro and some of the others, just assurance that his peers will be safe and sound when the job is over. Ainz got it that Ojiro has been touted as the overall most 'normal' person in Class 1-A.
Wanting to be sure one's peers were going to be fine is a perfectly normal thing to desire. Ainz would make sure that, at minimum, all U.A. students who were going to get involved were going to be getting out of the raid alive. That, at least, was the minimum that the Sorcerer King felt that he was owing to things here.
...He wasn't entirely sure on most of the pro heroes what were going to be involved in sticking their noses into Nazarick business, however.
...
Two nights later, all of the U.A. students who were at the meeting at Sir Nighteye's agency met up with each other in front of one of the student dorm buildings. In the time since the meeting, Ainz was able to sneak two more Quirk Capacity Potions into Mirio via offering him more of the special tea. With each bottle of tea laced with a Quirk Capacity Potion, Mirio felt better, the rate of his life force being burnt up by his Quirk Overload Sickness was lessened as his Quirk Capacity was getting caught up to the number of quirks he had.
Ainz normally would be far more careful slash stingy with Quirk Capacity Potions; the spell that made them, rather than cost mana, was one of those 'can only be cast x number of times per day' kind of spells. It had a flat once per day casting limit, and skills slash equipment Ainz had that would speed up such cool downs did not speed up the cool down on Conjure Quirk Capacity Potion. When he found out that he'll at best get only one Quirk Capacity Potion per day no matter what, Ainz resolved to be careful with what's a limited resource.
But upon testing a theory he had about Quirk Capacity Potions being effective in combating Mirio's Quirk Overload Sickness, and seeing that it really WAS an effective resolution to the problem, Ainz became more willing to use more Quirk Capacity Potions on Mirio as part of his studying a case of Quirk Overload Sickness. He had been casting the Conjure Quirk Capacity Potion spell every day since he got it, so he did have a fair store of it saved up. Ainz planned to stop sneaking the potions to Mirio once he sees the Quirk Overload Sickness is gone.
That wasn't the only thing that Ainz had been doing since the meeting at Sir Nighteye's agency. The move that the Shie Hassaikai made from their original compound to the new one Ainz had made in a more remote location was finished, leaving the original base totally bare. ...Save for the very nasty surprise that was left there waiting for the pro heroes and their police allies to stumble upon when they conduct the raid. He didn't show it, but Ainz was looking forward to what was going to go down during the raid later in the day.
He might even be able to further bolster the renown attached to the name of Izuku Midoriya.
After meeting up at Sir Nighteye's agency, the heroes and their hero students, along with a number of police, gathered around Sir Nighteye, his sidekicks Centipeder and Bubble Girl, and hero student Mirio. "In a few moments," Sir Nighteye began, "We'll be conducting our raid on the hideout where the Shie Hassaikai are squatting at."
"Hey, quick question," Mr. Brave began, "How are we certain that the Shie Hassaikai are going to be there?"
"I was able to learn of it by using my quirk, Foresight, on a thug who was overheard talking about selling Trigger for the Shie Hassaikai," Sir Nighteye said, "Luckily for me, I was able to pass of me touching his shoulder from behind as me simply wanting his attention so I could ask him if he knew how to get to a certain store in the area."
"Why did you touch the thug's shoulder?" asked Rock Lock.
"If I want to use my quirk on someone, I have to make physical contact with them," Sir Nighteye explained, "That allows me to use Foresight on them so I can see into their future. I didn't use too much effort, just enough to learn where the thug was going." Hearing that piqued Ainz's interest; a quirk that requires contact to work and lets the user see the target's future. It could be a potential threat, especially if used on him.
Well, it's a good thing that Ainz has that nasty surprise planned for the raid team.
...
Later on in the morning, the raid team was assembled outside of the old Shie Hassaikai compound, which the good guys still thought was the active one. "There's a series of underground halls here in the base of the Shie Hassaikai," Sir Nighteye said, "There's more to the stronghold of these villains than what lays directly in front of us."
"I hope everyone still has their maps of the underground area of this villain's lair," Bubble Girl called out, "With the updates to denote where the Shie Hassaikai are making their Trigger!"
Looking around, Fat Gum with a curious look said, "Hey, where did Gran Torino zoom off to?" Ainz perked up when Fat Gum mentioned Torino, the older pro hero who had that private meeting with Sir Nighteye and All Might that one time.
"Some urgent business concerning the League of Villains had cropped up and he was asked to help out with it," Sir Nighteye explained. Turning to face the front of the (old) Shie Hassaikai compound, Sir Nighteye went on, "But being down by one hero won't stop us from stopping the drug dealings of these villains and bringing them to justice!"
"I agree with that, Sir Nighteye!" Mirio cheered.
One of the gathered police officers called out that it's eight-thirty in the morning, which meant that it was time to start the raid. Everyone moved into position, ready to go in when need be, as one of the police officers walked up to the door in the wall around the compound, pressed the buzzer's button and spoke into the intercom, "This is the police! We have a warrant to search the prem-"
*CRASH*
*ROAR*
*KERSHUNK*
"AAARRRUUUGGGHHH!"
The police officer who pressed the buzzer's button was cut off when the door burst open and a long black wavy sword blade impaled him through his torso before the being wielding the sword lifted him up as if he were a hunk of shish kebab meat on a wooden skewer. Everyone cried out in alarm when they saw what happened to the now doomed police officer, and more than a few freaked out when they saw what it was that had fatally wounded said police officer.
It was a Death Knight, although all second New Worlders thought it was called a Black Paladin.
As the Death Knight roared at the gathered raid team, multiple undead monsters (all of them pop monsters from Nazarick) began swarming out. Most were skeletons, but there were a few lesser zombies in the mix, and four Nazarick Old Guarders to account for the pro heroes. If there was any slack in that force, the Death Knight ought to be able to pick up said slack unless Ryukyu who's at a high enough level to deal with a Death Knight decides to slay it.
"These are the monsters that the League of Villains sicced on the hero students who took the Provisional License Exams at Takoba National Stadium!" Aizawa called out, his tone and expression making it clear this was one of the very rare instances where he was freaking out.
"I need the lesser monsters contained!" Sir Nighteye called out, "Mr. Brave, Rock Lock, Fat Gum, Ryukyu, you four try to contain the Black Paladin!"
The men that Sir Nighteye called for rushed the Death Knight while Ryukyu transformed into a dragon first. Mr. Brave was smacked aside when the Death Knight swatted him with his shield, then he impaled Rock Lock through the torso as the hero was preparing to use his quirk on it, making Rock Lock cough up a glob of blood before being swung away like the police officer was. The Death Knight then tried to impale the stunned and downed but still alive Mr. Brave.
However, Fat Gum rushed in and managed to pull the Death Knight's sword arm back. "Hell no! Like I'm gonna let you kill anyone else, monster!" Fat Gum roared, righteous fury fueling his strength as he pulled with all of his might.
Ryukyu, now transformed, flew in and grabbed the Death Knight by the shoulders before flying straight up a very considerable height before simply dropping the Death Knight, letting the impact from the fall kill it. However, about halfway to the ground, the Death Knight turned into smoke, flew the rest of the way down, and reappeared right in front of Fat Gum to try smacking him aside with its shield like it did to Mr. Brave.
The smack didn't do much to Fat Gum, as his Fat Absorption quirk let him tank the hit just fine. "How is everyone else doing?!" Fat Gum called out as he caught the Death Knight's sword arm again as it tried swinging at him.
"Fat Gum, the body of the officer killed by the Black Paladin got up on its own and tried attacking your intern Suneater!" cried out Bubble Girl, "But Ryukyu's intern Deku blasted it with a sphere of fire and put the poor officer back to rest!"
"Rock Lock was just killed by the Black Paladin!" Fat Gum called out, "Someone keep an eye on his body and move in to keep it dead if it tries getting up!" Aizawa rushed in and impaled the side of Rock Lock's head with his hunting knife right as the slain pro hero tried to get back up, only to drop dead again from the sufficient head damage.
The heroes and their police allies were not prepared for this. They simply expected to rush the Shie Hassaikai's hideout, defeat all of them, and stop their work in the Trigger trade. By no means were any of them expecting to learn that the Shie Hassaikai, by having monsters such as these at their hideout, had allied with the League of Villains.
Things had just gone from already risky to life threatening and nightmarish.
END, CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR
Author's notes;
This chapter sees Ainz (who used memory manipulation magic to cover his past tracks and keep anyone in the second New World from connecting him to Izuku Midoriya) have the Shie Hassaikai move to a new base of operations for them as their original hideout was compromised. The work studies begin, and Ainz and the other usual U.A. students are brought in on it, including Shinso who is brought by Aizawa.
However, when the raid started, the heroes and their police allies are caught off guard when a Death Knight (who they think is called a Black Paladin) bursts through the front gate door and immediately kills a police officer before more undead swarm out, all set up by Ainz in advance. How will things go now that the raid has been turned on its head for the heroes? Later.
