HELLO! Another Iruma fic! But this one is mega different from my other Iruma stories. It's completely separate from the AU where Kalego found out about Iruma's humanity. So for this story, I thought, instead of Iruma being taken to the Netherworld, Kalego meets Iruma's mother, my OC Asuna, under particular circumstances that led to Iruma's conception.
WARNING: This fic features past child abuse, previous sexual assault, torture, scarring, and trauma.
Kalego gritted his teeth as his body was compelled to follow the orders of this lowly wretched human through a dark basement with only a lantern guiding them until they came upon the door. The man with dark blue hair smirked as he unlocked the door and pulled it open, it's loud creak echoed in the dark.
"Get inside." The human ordered the demon who had no choice but to comply as the familiar contract forced his legs to carry him into the room.
"Remember, if you don't succeed, the contract won't break." The human practically sang as he shut the door behind the demon.
Kalego glared at the door then turned when he heard a chain rattle across the floor.
A woman sat on a very thin mattress in the corner of the room, a shackle around her neck, reddened and scraped raw as the chain connected to the wall. A sheet wrapped tightly around her body, covering her head as her back was turned to the demon, her face staring through the only window high above her bed when the moon's light trickled in.
Slowly, she turned around to face Kalego, her face void of emotion, eyes dark and empty. Her skin was pale, and his demon eyesight caught the bruise on her delicate cheekbone. The blanket around her head fell, revealing bright blue hair and matching Egyptian blue eyes that were round and once held innocence.
"Are you the demon he summoned?" She asked, her voice hollow as she stared at Kalego.
Kalego clenched his jaw and nodded, "My name is Naberius Kalego."
"Suzuki Asuna." She responded, her small fingers clutching the blanket tightly around her.
"How long have you been here?" Kalego asked as he eyed the chain binding her to the bed.
Asuna glanced up at the moon, "I've been here for eight full moons. But it feels longer." She answered, her voice cracked slightly.
The scent this woman gave off is similar to the man who summoned him, only hers smelled sweeter and richer. It made his mouth water, but he remembered why he was brought here.
"Did he tell you why he summoned you?" Asuna asked, her head bowed as she stared at the bed with a look of sadness as her long blue hair cascaded around her.
"Yes. But I can't say 'no', it's impossible for me to disobey while I'm bound by the contract." Kalego stated, clenching his fists very tightly.
Asuna returned her blue gaze back to the demon, "You can still be free though, can't you?"
Kalego nodded, "Only if I..." He hesitated to speak as he didn't want to make this woman uncomfortable.
Asuna was silent as she bowed her head, a look of resignation on her face before her fingers loosened around the blanket.
Kalego's eyes widened when he saw beautiful naked flesh under the cloth. Her long hair draped over her breasts, concealing them from view, and he can see the curves of her body and her flat tummy. But he also saw scars decorate her skin under the moonlight, the years of abuse and misfortune written all over her.
"If it's the only way you can be free from him," Asuna touched her belly, "then do what you must to get out of this place."
Kalego slowly approached her, completely spell bound by her beauty. He sat on the bed but kept a respectable distance. He saw in her eyes compassion, kindness, sadness and sympathy; everything that is undemonic in the Netherworld, and not like that human man. He grew up on stories of how humans are greedy, yet this woman, perhaps she's a separate species from humans.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" Kalego asked as he noticed hand shaped bruises on her wrists and throat.
Asuna nodded and held out her hand in offering, "We're both trapped, but only you have the chance to be free." She gave him a sad smile, "Besides, what can you do to me that I haven't already suffered through?"
Kalego clenched his teeth at the meaning behind those words, the torment she endured for eight months, the evidence plain for all to see. That sad excuse for a man locking her away and abusing her the entire time. Kalego may be a demon, but he doesn't want to be that kind of monster.
A large hand gently grasped her and slowly guided her towards him, the rattling chain echoed in the room. He cupped her cheek with his other hand, noting how cold her skin felt compared to his warm calloused fingers. Asuna closed her eyes and leaned into his hand, it felt nice, much warmer compared to those other men who entered this room.
Kalego leaned his head forward until their foreheads touched, "If that's the case, I'll try to be gentle for both of us." He softly promised, not wanting to frighten her.
Asuna nodded as she opened her blue eyes, putting her trust in the demon.
Kalego brought their lips together in a slow and gentle kiss, tasting her sweet flavor while relaxing her. Asuna responded with the same tenderness, her other hand holding his arm just below his elbow. After several minutes of making out, Kalego gently laid her down on the bed and hovered over her. He already removed his clothes, baring himself before her, his warm skin surrounding her cold flesh as they made love.
Kalego shot out of bed panting, his usual slick backed hair in disarray and sweat matting his face. He groaned as he placed his head in his hands. It's been several months since that first night. He was summoned by a human for the purpose of creating a half-demon infant. The reason being to sell it to the highest bidder and become rich. For one month he was missing from the Netherworld, one month he was bound by that greedy human, and one month he was trapped with that woman, the sister of the man who summoned him.
Asuna, the name echoed within his mind as he remembered her, how gently and kindly she spoke to him telling him that soon he'll be free from that place. That sadness within her eyes as she accepted her fate as a vessel for demon offspring, how he wants to go back to the human world and wretch her away from that disgusting man. When the pregnancy was confirmed, Kalego fought like hell against the contract to bring her with him to the Netherworld, to protect their child from a cruel fate.
The second he returned, Demon Border Control asked him questions, but all he could say was he could not remember what happened in the month he was gone. His older brother, Narnia, looked angry and concerned for him during the questioning. Kalego should have told them the truth, but he feared that by doing so, he'd put Asuna's life in jeopardy, and the baby would be terminated before it was born. He couldn't let that happen, not after everything she's suffered. So he spent the last several months trying to find other portals to get him to the human world and save them.
Suddenly, a glowing circle appeared underneath him, making him look around him on the mattress. His eyes widened, "Again?" Then he was pulled through the circle.
Kalego appeared within a drawn circle with candles surrounding him. It was the same room within the basement he appeared in. His eyes darted around, baring his teeth as he searched for the human who summoned him, if it was that same man, he will happily rip his throat out no matter what punishment befalls him.
"Kalego?"
That kind and gentle voice made him freeze before he slowly turned and saw Asuna kneeling before the circle, a thick jacket wrapped around her delicate body and her blue hair in tangles around her. But her eyes, once empty and sad, were wide with hope and fear as she gazed upon the demon she hasn't seen in months.
"Asuna?" Kalego choked out, nearly falling to his knees at the sight of her.
Asuna let out a tearful laugh as she shakingly stood up, her feet bare as she wore oversized pants around her small body. She stumbled into the circle until she was in front of Kalego before she fell into his arms and wept.
Kalego held her close, she felt heavier than the last time he saw. "Asuna-"
"I killed him." Asuna whispered, "I killed my brother." She cried into his chest.
Kalego pulled back and held her face, "And the baby?"
Asuna breathed out shakingly as she slowly opened her jacket to reveal a swollen belly.
Kalego's eyes widened as he touched her belly, feeling the life stir within her.
"I felt contractions earlier." Asuna whispered, "My brother found out...he was ready to steal my baby." She shook her head, "Once he was born, he was going to resummon you to make another one. I didn't have any other choice, I was so afraid." She wept as she bowed her head, the traumatic experience of having to take a life to protect her little one and Kalego overwhelmed her.
Kalego's mouth fell open at what she told him, what her older brother was willing to do to make more money. He clenched his teeth, wishing so desperately to make that man suffer for what he put him and Asuna through.
Asuna's knees buckled when she felt pain her abdomen.
"Asuna?" Kalego exclaimed in surprise before he heard something trickle onto the floor.
Asuna breathed heavily, her mouth parted as she looked up at Kalego with wide eyes, "The baby's coming."
Kalego's eyes widened before he picked her up before the summoning circle glowed again. The light surrounded them before they were sent back to the Netherworld.
Balam was studying his latest find at his home when he got a call from his former classmate and closest ally since their academy days.
"Kalego?"
"Shichiro, I need you to come to my house pronto, bring every medical equipment and medicine you have!" Kalego's rushed response with hardly a greeting surprised the gargoyle.
"What-"
Balam was cut off by the sound of screaming in the background, they sounded like they were in tremendous pain.
"I'll explain when you get here, just please hurry!" Kalego then hung up.
Not wanting to waste any more time, Balam gathered everything he needs to help the poor creature suffering and flew out the window at alarming speed.
Kalego walked beside Asuna as she did her breathing exercises, she held his hand tightly trying to be as calm as possible. She stopped and gripped his hand, grunting when a wave of pain passed through her.
Kalego glanced at his watch, "Fifteen minutes apart."
Asuna groaned and breathed out deeply, "Human labor...lasts...for twelve to twenty-four hours...on the first pregnancy." She said before they continue walking.
"For demon pregnancies, it's six hours." Kalego tossed out that fact, "Though unfortunately, we're not sure about this type of pregnancy."
"Well, let's do the math, my labors began nearly three hours ago." Asuna breathed as calmly as she could, "So, theoretically, this should end in five more hours. But that's just a guess!" Asuna cried hysterically as Kalego guided her to the bed.
Kalego normally considered himself the most rational demon in the Netherworld, but right now, he has absolutely no clue what he's doing. Even though Asuna was a nurse-in-training before she was captured, it didn't prepare her for this.
He went over to the bowl of ice-cold water and rung the towel out before returning to Asuna's side and dabbed her sweaty face. Gone were her human clothes, now she was dressed in his mother's nightgowns.
"My ally will be here soon, he can help you deliver this baby safely." Kalego assured her as he continued to wipe the sweat off her.
"Can he keep a secret?" Asuna asked, her body shaking as she breathed slowly.
"Yes, humans are considered myth, and Shichiro is quite fond of the idea of them. If this has been any other situation, he'll faint." Kalego stated, knowing his best friend all too well.
Asuna breathed out a laugh despite the situation, "He sounds like a fun guy to have around."
Kalego rubbed her back to ease her discomfort, "He'll be here soon."
"Iruma."
Kalego raised an eyebrow in confusion.
"Our son's name is Iruma." Asuna held his arm and smiled with a hint of fear in her eyes, "I want you to call him that...in case I don't make it."
Not liking the implications behind that statement, Kalego grasped her hand and firmly told her, "You're going to live Asuna, I'll make sure of it."
Asuna's eyes filled with tears as she cupped his face with her hand, "We don't know what will happen. A half-demon has never been born before." She swallowed, "Should the worst happen, he'll need you."
Kalego's eyes widened as Asuna continued, "I know you're not ready to be a father, but Iruma needs your guidance. He doesn't belong with humans...he can't go back to that world, ever."
Kalego clenched his jaw, knowing Asuna has suffered this turmoil the second she got pregnant, the constant fear for their son's future should he be born in the human world.
The front door to his home opened before large footsteps echoed through the manor. The door opened and in entered a very large man with bird feet and a metal mask covering his mouth. His eyes widened at the sight of Kalego tending to a beautiful pregnant woman who looked to be in labor.
"K-K-K-Kalego...how-when-?" Balam had a ton of questions but struggled which to ask.
"Shichiro, take a deep breath." Kalego instructed, not leaving Asuna's side.
Balam did as he instructed and calmed himself down.
"Good, now, try and calmly listen. This is Asuna, she's the mother of my child...and she's human." Kalego added after a moment's hesitation.
Balam made choking sounds as he glanced between Kalego and the human woman.
Asuna, smiled through her discomfort and waved at him in greeting, "Hi, Kalego told me a lot about you, it's nice to meet you."
"Um, Shichiro Balam. Are you really...?" He had to fight the urge to squeal as he trembled like an excited demon pup.
Asuna laughed softly, "Human? Yes. Pregnant? Double yes."
Balam glanced at Kalego, a thousand questions in his eyes.
"I'll explain later, do you have everything?" Kalego asked as he held Asuna's hand securely.
This brought the gargoyle out of his stupor as he went over to the large desk in the room and set his medical supplies down. "I grabbed everything I could fit in here. I wasn't sure what I was dealing with when you called."
"I'm sorry for the abrupt demand." Kalego apologized to his ally.
"Luckily I had practice delivering manticores, this is smaller than a manticore." Balam muttered to himself sheepishly, mildly worried he'll hurt the human.
Asuna smiled at Balam as he turned to face them, "Don't worry, I have complete trust and faith in you. As does Kalego." She assured the gargoyle whose eyes brightened at her words.
The moment was broken when another contraction shot through her, causing her to grip Kalego's hand tightly.
"That was eight minutes. Contractions are getting closer." Kalego noted when he glanced at his watch. "Shichiro, do you have something for the pain?" Kalego asked his friend who was already in the process of creating a concoction.
Asuna groaned behind her tightly closed lips as she felt the contraction pass.
Balam appeared before her with a cup in his hand, "Here, drink this slowly. Small sips."
Asuna shakingly took the cup with Kalego's help and did as instruct, though it tasted bitter, she had worse as she felt the liquid slither down her throat.
"So, Kalego says you're both teachers?" Asuna asked as she willed her body to relax as Balam made preparations.
"Yes, I teach Demonic History and Mythical Zoology, I'm also an Imaginary Beings Researcher." Balam clarified, starting up the conversation to pass the time, "I also write picture books based on them."
"Oh, that's lovely. Would it be alright if I read some of them?" Asuna asked, looking enthused at the idea of reading picture books to help her better understand the Netherworld with her son.
This made Balam's eyes light up. "I actually brought my latest work with me." Balam said as he rummaged through his bag and presented them to Asuna.
Asuna opened it and her eyes brightened, "Wow, this is so cute!"
Kalego scanned the book's contents, "Impressive as always, and you brought them at the perfect moment."
Asuna laughed softly, "A perfect baby gift, our son will love this!"
Balam was glowing at the praise, and the best part, she's going to read this with her baby. "When I have time, I'll bring all of my picture books."
Asuna smiled brightly, "Really, that's so-GUNGHHHH!" Reality came crashing down when another contraction hit her, making her drop the book to grip Kalego's arm.
Kalego grunted as her nails dug into his skin, they weren't sharp demon claws, they still hurt. But he bore the pain for her sake.
Balam immediately resumed his task, "Right, birth first then books."
An hour passed as two demons and a human worked to bring a half-demon into the world. Now they were at the final stretch. Sitting in a squatting position at the edge of the bed with Kalego supporting her from behind, and Balam kneeling before her spread legs as he worked to gently carry the baby out of her.
"I see the head Asuna, you're almost there. Take a deep breath, and push!" Balam instructed as Asuna bared down, groaning in pain and effort as she felt her son crawling further down her birth canal. She stopped for a moment before Balam told her to push one more time. Gritting her teeth, she repeated the motion and screamed, holding Kalego's hand throughout the process.
Asuna slumped against Kalego when she finally felt the baby leave her body accompanied by a newborn crying. She panted, sweating and smiling as Balam cradled a very small blue haired infant in his large hands, the umbilical cord connecting her to the baby.
"A boy." Balam declared before he tied off the umbilical cord and cut it, he wiped the fluid off the screaming newborn then wrapped him in a soft blanket.
Despite the exhaustion and pain, Asuna laughed in joy as Balam presented her with the baby. "Iruma." She whispered as her son was transferred into her arms. She cried in happiness as she turned to Kalego who never left her side, "Kalego, this is your son."
Kalego's eyes were wide as he moved his hand to gently cradle the writhing newborn, "A son."
Iruma quieted down at the warmth surrounding him, the voice he is most familiar with combined with the powerful yet protective hand holding him made him slowly open his eyes, revealing the same blue gems he inherited from his mother.
The new parents watched in wonder as they saw their baby's eyes. "He's beautiful, you've done well Asuna." Kalego softly said, smiling in pride at the mother of their child for the strength she demonstrated.
Asuna laughed softly then grunted when she felt the placenta move down her birth canal.
"I got it." Balam told her as he grabbed a pan and caught the placenta before it could hit the ground.
Asuna let out a relieved sigh as she cradled her demon baby before she felt something leak from her breasts. Without ceremony, she pulled the collar of her shirt down and guided her son's mouth to her nipple before he began to suckle.
Balam quickly looked away when she bore her breast while Kalego froze up as she began to nurse the baby.
Asuna smiled sheepishly, "Sorry about that. Probably should have warned you beforehand."
Kalego looked away, a light blush dusting his cheeks, "Yes, well, don't do that in front of other people."
After she was finished breast feeding, Kalego cleaned her up while Balam did the same for Iruma. While Asuna slept in his bed, he set to work on a healing spell. He paid extra attention to her neck where the collar dug into her flesh, leaving behind a nasty scar. He pulled the covers around her, making sure she won't get cold as she recovers from childbirth.
Kalego finally allowed himself to relax into the chair beside the bed as Balam reentered the room with a freshly bundled up Iruma.
"How is she?" Balam asked, gently cradling the small sleeping babe.
"I healed her, she's just sleeping right now." Kalego explained then turned to his ally, "Thank you for being here."
Balam smiled behind his mask, "It was my greatest honor." He then bent over and presented the newborn, "Here you go."
Kalego remembered how Asuna held Iruma and carefully situated his son into the crook of his arm, his deep violet eyes took in Iruma's scrunched up sleeping face. He memorized his features, the soft blue tufts adorning his little head and the slightly pointed ears. He had no horns or tail, which worried him as he hardly looks like a demon.
"He has wings growing out of his back." Balam stated, making Kalego look up in shock then relief. That's one demonic feature that will conceal his humanity.
"Kalego," Balam spoke in a tone that left no room for argument, "tell me honestly, how did this happen."
Kalego frowned as he held his son close but made sure not to crush him. He knew he can't hide the truth anymore. No matter how much it wounded his pride to be caught in that scenario, the result of that horrible time is currently in his arms.
Kalego took a deep breath and sighed, his eyes watched the slumbering Asuna, then whispered in a low voice, "Do you remember that month I was gone?"
Balam's eyes widened.
"Asuna's older brother summoned me for the sole purpose of impregnating Asuna. A young woman who was trapped by the only family she had for eight months." Kalego clenched his teeth, "I was in that prison cell with her for an entire month. She was my only comrade during that time." He lowered his eyes, "Her brother wanted a half-demon child to sell to the highest bidder once Asuna gave birth...and he was willing to make her do it again." The hellhound glared at the floor, wanting so badly to kill him slowly, "He was ready to summon me for another child. But Asuna killed him and summoned me to protect our son."
Balam was silent as he digested everything his fellow teacher and longtime friend just confessed to him. It was overwhelming to say the least. But he felt Kalego and Asuna experienced the worst of it. They were forced to do something they didn't want. Yet despite everything, the love they developed for this small child is the only good thing that came out of that dark time.
"Kalego...I am so sorry." Balam didn't know what else to say or what he can do to help his ally after that kind of trauma.
Kalego sighed quietly before he looked down at the still sleeping child, "It's all over now. Both Asuna and Iruma are here, safe from humans." He stated, his vow to bring them to the Netherworld fulfilled.
"What will you do now?" Balam asked watching Kalego eye his child with a softness that was rare in the strict teacher.
Kalego was silent for a moment, "Protect them the best way I can in this world." He glanced at Asuna's sleeping face, noting how peaceful she looks, "I owe her this much and more. She wanted to free me from her brother no matter what, and she had to kill her own blood to protect her son and me. She has no place in the human world."
Balam could see how Kalego is attached to the human, a woman who he shares a bond through trauma and affection for their son. If what Kalego said is true, then Asuna needs to learn about the Netherworld if she's gonna stay with her son. Given the lengths she went to ensure her son and his father's safety, Balam believes she's up to the challenge.
"Is there any way I can help?" Balam asked, making the hellhound stare at him then smile lightly.
"Well, I hope Asuna agrees, but I'd like you to be Iruma's Godfather." Kalego said, watching the gargoyle's eye widen before he smiled behind his mask.
"I'd love that."
"Also, could you substitute my classes for the next five weeks?" Kalego made his second request, "With the abrupt changes, I must adjust to my new role as a father. Additionally, I'll need to help Asuna adjust to her life in the Netherworld." 'I need to help her survive this place.'
"I can give you all of my picture books if it'll help her." Balam offered, knowing when Kalego commits to something, he'll never budge an inch.
"That is most appreciated."
"What will you tell the Chairdemon?" Balam asked, watching Kalego's face sour at the mention of their superior.
"I'll just tell him I have urgent clan matters to attend to. It's technically not a lie." Kalego added as he glanced at his still sleeping son, unbothered by the world.
"Fair point." Balam sighed then stood up, "I'll be back in a bit, I can get some baby supplies for you."
"Are you sure?" Kalego asked, not sure if it is such a good idea to send his closest ally to retrieve the items. Thankfully it's a weekend, so neither of them needs to be at Babylus.
"You stay here with your family. If Asuna and Iruma wake up, it's you they'll want to see." Balam stated as he left the room to complete his task.
Kalego was left alone with the sleeping human and half-demon.
"Family." Kalego said to himself, the word foreign on his tongue as he turned to Asuna then Iruma. For decades he never believed himself capable of having a family of his own. With his demanding job as a teacher preparing the next generation of demons on how to survive the Netherworld, he felt he wouldn't be able to make time for one. But now he can't turn back, Asuna and Iruma need him.
Staring at the scar around Asuna's neck, he made a silent vow to keep them safe, to heal her from all the torment she suffered at the hands of her brother. He knows he's breaking a multitude of laws, but he'd rather lose his wings than allow anyone to take away his family.
"Asuna, Iruma...I swear, this time I will protect you."
