Chapter thirteen:
Frisk takes a breath and finally heads to go inside towards the sound of the humming. She pauses as she comes up to a throne room with a huge figure that looks like a goat monster. She feels her heart hammering in her chest because this monster is HUGE!
"Hm?" The large monster slightly turns to look over his shoulder. "Give me one moment visitor. I will be with you shortly." He turns back to what he's doing then after a moment he puts down a watering can. "There. All watered." He turns to face Frisk who is still frozen where she stands. "Now what can I..." He trails off as he gets a look at Frisk. He turns his head away looking regretful. "Oh. I see." He turns back to Frisk with guilt in his eyes. "I will give you a chan e to turn back. But be aware that you may be hunted by some." He turns around with his back to Frisk. "Come this way to the barrier. However I will have to warn you that for the sake of my subjects I will have to try to kill you. Please forgive me but a king must make grave sacrifices for his kingdom. Follow only if you want. I won't force you. I can only promise to make it as painless and quick as I possibly can." He heads off down one hallway.
Frisk stands there still frozen for a good few moments. She isn't fully sure what to do anymore. She needs to get to that barrier... However she has doubts that she can actually change that large monsters mind. Not to mention how unsure she is that she will be able to change his mind. She did see the guilt however she swore she could see resolve hidden behind the guilt. She also is scared due to how big he is.
This goat monster is bigger than any other monsters she has faced before.
Frisk tries to calm her racing heart so she can try to think properly instead of racing thoughts. She takes a few deep breaths glancing to the flowers hoping that it'll help her calm down. She doesn't get much comfort since they remind her of Flowey. Which she isn't sure if it is intentional or not. She shakes her head closing her eyes. She takes some more deep breaths hoping that it'll calm her down. She opens her eyes when she's a little calmer though not by a lot. She wonders if she truly is ready to try to convince the kind Asgore that there is another way. She isn't fully sure that she is. She doesn't even know if there is another way. She glances back the way she came thinking about going back to Alphys. She looks to the way that Asgore went down.
What is the right thing to do right now?
...
Papyrus paces in his anxiety.
Undyne watches knowing that she won't be able to change his mind about sitting.
Alphys remains by Sans's side waiting to see if he will awaken or not.
Sans remains lying there out cold with nothing showing whether he'll wake up or stay out.
Papyrus is getting more anxious the longer it is taking to be able to know for sure. He turns to Alphys only briefly pausing in his pacing. "Are you absolutely sure that there's no way to know for sure right now?"
"N-No. Sorry." Alphys ducks her head apologetically. "There really isn't. It'll just be a waiting game."
Papyrus sighs trying to keep it quiet in order to not upset Alphys. He can tell that she's really worried about Sans as well. "Alright then." He goes back to his pacing just waiting for any sort of sign from Sans.
"Mmm..." Sans lets out a small groan just a few minutes later.
All three who are there rush to Sans's side as soon as they hear him starting to awaken. They watch him with almost held breaths as his head shifts.
Sans blinks his eyes open. He at first lets his gaze adjust to everything before glancing to the three of them. He doesn't get to say anything before Papyrus throws himself onto Sans in a hug while sobbing.
"H-Hey. What do y-you remember?" Alphys inquires checking Sans over. "Do you r-remember my name?"
"Alphys." Sans mentions finding his voice is a little rough this time around. He does his best to cooperate with Alphys checking him over even with Papyrus hugging him. "I was in my lab. I found the note and followed it. It was like a weird dream. This skeleton who was someone with me when it all began helped me." He lets his brother go as the other pulls away to try to calm himself down.
"What did he do?" Undyne questions while Alphys checks Sans's magic levels.
"He helped me cut the ties to the others. As well as his own." Sans explains and he doesn't miss the worried look shared between Undyne and Papyrus.
"It would e-explain your m-magic levels. I-It isn't as stable a-anymore. It seems l-like your body is t-trying to adjust to a sudden change." Alphys nods as she pulls away. "O-Other than that you s-should be alright. Do you k-know what you're seeing n-now? Is your o-outfit correct?"
Sans glances down to his Undertale clothes before nodding. "Yeah. They look fine." He confirms hearing them all breathe out a soft breath. He notices his phone go off so he checks it. He spots that the caller is Toriel. He gave her his number just in case however she hasn't called him before. "I'm sorry. This is probably important." He gets a go ahead nod from Papyrus so he answers his phone. "Hey. Is everything alright?" He wants to crack a joke however he is aware that this is a very weird situation. He really should be a little professional. He has to figure out how bad whatever this is actually is.
"I'm sorry I hope I'm not calling at a bad time." Toriel mentions on the other side of the line. "However could you perhaps meet me in front of the castle?"
"Sure. Why?" Sans inquires with a blink that he changes his gaze to be more towards his phone.
"I'll explain when we meet in person. Please just do this for me."
Sans realizes that she likely means an in person meeting not through a door. He wonders what his friend looks like. "Okay I'll be over soon."
"Thank you so much! This really needs to be dealt with. I was worried you didn't have the stomach for it."
The two share a small chuckle at that pun.
"Well you've got some nerve that I don't to be calling me up for such a favor. A really backbone if I say so myself." Sans jokes back getting a slight groan from Papyrus. He just laughs along with Toriel.
"I will see you soon." Toriel hangs up after this and Sans looks to the curious looks of the three others.
"My friend needs me to meet her in front of the castle. It's really important. She never contacts me like this as we usually just have a preplanned meet up. Then check where we meet up to see if the other is there." Sans explains and the three do look even more curious.
"Surely if it's so important that she has to meet you there now it could be dangerous." Undyne mentions before grinning widely. "I'm in!"
"W-We'll have to w-walk there." Alphys mentions twisting her hands nervously. "I-I highly w-wouldn't recommend Sans t-teleporting right n-now."
Papyrus scoops Sans up into his arms. "Just to be safe." He mentions giving a determined look. "Let's go!"
Undyne scoops up Alphys who squeaks with a heavy blush. She chuckles warmly before nuzzling Alphy's cheek.
Papyrus and Undyne speedily race towards the castle to get Sans there as fast as possible.
Sans has a bad feeling in his soul that something is going to go really really wrong. He keeps quiet about it as he silently decides that whatever it ends up being they'll figure it out.
As they approach the castle there stands a white goat monster in a purple dress.
A monster who looks all too familiar to all of them though it only brings up a lot of confusion. She is alone too so there's no way it isn't who they are looking for.
"Sans." Papyrus whispers to his brother. "Are you sure that's her?" He lets his pace slow as they start to get closer even though she hasn't seen them yet.
"Well we only talked through a door." Sans admits to his brother in a whisper. "I thought she was just seriously self conscious about her appearance. However even with who she is I trust her. Just trust me on this."
Papyrus nods softly. He slows down along with Undyne as they reach their destination.
The goat monster turns around to look at the four as Sans and Alphys get out of the other twos arms.
"Hey Torrie." Sans greets casually to lighten the tense air. He sees a small smile from his friend though that's it. "Sorry about the company. It's a bit of a story as to what happened."
"I'm sure it is. However if they don't mind helping with something then I don't mind them being here. Perhaps more is better in this case." Toriel assures them still with only a small smile. "I need your help in convincing Asgore to not kill the human." She blinks at the others. "Hopefully she hasn't reached him yet. I fear I may be too late. So please, help me out."
There is a heavy silence that follows her request.
