The next morning, I woke with the rest of the common room and after donning my school robes followed them down to breakfast. I quickly spotted Adrian in the sea of children, his blue hair standing out amid the sea of blondes, brunettes and gingers. I fell into the seat beside and grinned as Phantom jumped onto my shoulders and lay down purring quietly. "Ready for our first day?" I asked as a twinge of nervousness shot through me. He nodded silently as he looked around the table curiously and then sighed.
"Nothing beside tea or coffee..." he muttered, and I hid a smile behind my hand as Professor Dumbledore rose from the table and the great hall went quiet as everyone stared curiously.
"I have a brief announcement for you all...we have two new students here at Hogwarts...transfers from our American cousin Illvermorny. Adrain and Sylvr Brown." He said and motioned to the table Adrian, and I were seated. After a moment Adrian and I both stood and looked around for a moment before sitting back down amid cheers of welcome. I looked at Adrian and for a moment neither of us said anything before we both broke out laughing quietly.
"Syl you see that professor there next to the one with the purple turban?" I glanced up from my plate of pancakes to look at the teachers table and then nodded.
"Yeah what about him?"
"THAT'S Professor Snape." I looked at Adrian and then back to the table and studied our Head of House and then returned to my food thinking quietly.
I'm sure he is not as bad as he seems. I smiled quietly at Phantom, he was no ordinary witches familiar, he was a Shadow Cat, a breed of cat that grew to the size of a wolf, had startling red eyes, extremely potent venom, extreme intelligence and the ability to speak telepathically to those "deemed worthy enough"
Only time will tell Phantom... I thought as the food on the table disappeared and the students stood and started to leave. Just then a young blonde-haired boy appeared beside Adrian sneering cockily. Oh boy...this can't be good.. I thought as Adrian finally noticed him.
"Draco...what do you want?" I sat looking between the cautious and ready to intervene, should my brother need me.
"Just wondering why you're here and not back in America where you belong."
"Well someone told us about this rare and tiny troll and we just had to see it." Draco raised and eyebrow at him as if he were insane as I fought the urge to laugh.
"What?"
"Yeah, we heard this rumor about this tiny troll in this area, supposedly really hard to find but I guess they got that bit wrong..." I bit my lip and looked at the table as two other boys and a girl appeared behind Draco.
"The devil are you going on about?"
"Th-the tiny troll...got green eyes and really really blonde hair...Ya know Syl, when they told us about it, they neglected to mention that I'd be sharing a dorm with the damn thing." I snorted softly and the girl whipped her head around to stare at me venomously.
"You think that's funny?" She snapped
"That's normally why people laugh isn't it?" She went to step toward me when Phantom jumped of the table and growled deeply. "Lovely as this little chat has been it is time for class...and you four look like your a few sandwiches short of a picnic so...best not be late." I said standing and then Adrian, Phantom and I left the great hall quickly... "You okay?" I asked as we made our way up the grand staircase amid a sea of other students.
"No yeah this gonna be great. I'm glad we transferred...oh the stairs move is that like so students can get to class on time easier or?..."
"No they move randomly." An older boy, said quietly as he walked past us.
"Tha fuck do you mean they move randomly?" Adrian questioned...twenty minutes later he and I were still trying to find our way to our class, when out of desperation Adrian stopped the ghost of a monk that was floating by. "Do you know how to get to the dungeons we cannot figure out how to get there and...we don't know when we have potions cause none of yall have clocks on the walls but I think its soon-ish..."
"Of course, just go down these stairs-"
"Please anything but the moving stairs. Please I can't..." I stifled another laugh as the ghost, who introduced himself as The Fat Friar and house ghost of Hufflepuff, confirmed that we would indeed have to go back down the moving stairs. After another fifteen minutes of searching...and cursing from Adrian we both breathlessly barged into the Potions classroom, Professor Snape stood at the front of the class and stopped his lecture.
"Mr. And Mrs. Brown...why are you late to my class?"
"Why are we late?" I gasped doubling over and trying to catch my breath as Adrain finished the sentence for me.
"Well, someone told us to go to Hell, but we didn't wanna use the MOVING STAIRS." Snape glared at the two of us for a moment.
"50 points from Slytherin." He said and motioned for us to sit at an empty table at the front of the room.
"Yeah honestly I-I don't know what 50 from Slytherin means..." Adrain started
"And I frankly don't care, so can we just get onto the lesson." I said but as we pulled out mechanical pencils Snape stopped to stare at us once again.
"What...are those?" He asked
"It's a mechanical pencil...you write with it." Adrian replied, I could hear the frustration in his voice and a slight twinge of apprehension filtered through me as Snape asked where our quills and ink were.
"No...No I will not be using a quill and ink"
"And why is that Mr. Brown?" Snape asked, the entire room had fallen silent and were watching the three of us intently.
"Because I made the mistake of coming to this class in the first place, what makes you think I'm not going to make spelling errors." Adrian retorted, I watched quietly waiting...Snape, however, merely turned his back and continued his lesson and I slowly let out the breath I'd been holding. Even though Adrian and I were identical twins we were both vastly different. His hair, shortly cropped on the sides, had a dramatic swoop at the top that he kept dyed blue, while my hair fell past my waist in soft waves and was always black to green ombre. Our personalities, while somewhat similar, had distinct differences as well. Adrian could be more outspoken than I and he couldn't care less who he was talking to if he thought they were being a dick he'd tell them. But despite our differences and similarities we were quite close. We joked that we had the fabled "twin telepathy" as we could communicate with each other silently.
Adrian...be careful... I warned, earning me a reproachful side eye but nothing more. The rest of potions passed in uneventful fashion and soon we found ourselves wandering the halls with the other children, Adrian and I were both locked into conversations with classmates as we made our way through the halls when all of a sudden a blast cold air shot through me and I stopped, gasping for breath for a moment.
"Are you alright?" The Hufflepuff that I'd been talking to asked worriedly, I nodded and turned, looking for Adrian. I found him standing near the Slytherin House ghost The Bloody baron.
"BARON GET YOUR ASS OVER HERE!" Adrain called and I chuckled quietly as I made my way over to the two of them. "I don't fuckin care how important you think you are. You walk THROUGH me again, we're gonna have a fuckin issue. I will exercise your ass, don't fuckin play with me man. If fuckin Dumbledore himself can figure out how to move a foot to walk around me so fuckin can you. Stop. It's rude!...and creepy. Jesus." I waited until the Baron had floated off before breaking into a fit of laughter.
"It's not fuckin funny Sylvr!" Adrian said shivering again as he recalled the feeling of the Baron passing through him.
"I mean...him passing through you and by default me...no. BUT, you going the fuck off on The Bloody Baron...now that's funny." He rolled his eyes as we made our way to into the Great Hall for dinner and sat down.
"No, cause like when I say that this, dinner has been the only thing keeping me going all day. I just- I just wanna eat and go to bed, that's all I want. If I can have that I will be a happy man-" Whatever Adrian was about to say was cut off by Professor Quirrell sprinting into the Great Hall, his turban tilted off his head, pure terror evident on his face. We all watched he raced for the headmaster and fell against the table.
"TROLL...IN THE DUNGEON...thought you ought to know." He cried and then collapsed to the floor unconscious. I looked at Adrian who looked like someone had stolen the last cup of pudding.
"The fuck does he mean there's a troll in the dungeon?" He asked morosely.
"Well, I-I think that means that there is a troll in the dungeons..." I said, earning me a glare from Adrain as panic ensued within the Great Hall.
"Does this mean we have to stop eating dinner?" I rolled my eyes.
"Yes Aide now come on."
"I'm taking it with me..." He said grabbing a plate and making his way to the door. As we got the hall we saw Ron and Harry racing off in the opposite direction. "Where the fuck are Ron and Harry going?"
"Knowing them, somewhere they shouldn't be. We should go with them." I said and the two of headed off them.
"Guys what the fuck are you doing d-" Adrian stopped and we all peeked around the corner to see the troll lumbering through the halls. "Is that the troll? Did you come down here where the troll is?" Adrian asked in a mild panic as I peeked around the corner once more.
"Yeah...Hermione's in the bathroom." Harry mumbled.
"What do you mean Hermione's in there. Why the fuck would she be in there?" I hissed
"You fuckers made her cry so she hid in a bathroom? When this is over I'm gonna hit you both so hard, that I might actually knock some sense into you!" Adrain hissed and the four of us dashed into the bathroom as a scream pierced the air...What felt like an eternity later, the troll lay on the ground unconscious and the five of us had managed to escape with no injuries. "That was the dumbest fucking decision I have ever made in my life and I've made a lot of dumb fucking decisions...I will never follow you fuckers anywhere again" Adrian groaned I glanced at him quickly, his hair was a mess but otherwise he seemed okay.
"I second that..." I muttered as I leaned against a nearby wall and doubled over, wand still in my hand. Just then we heard footsteps and turned to see a group of teachers running towards us.
"Oh look...here come the teachers to yell at us...Yay...all I wanted was pudding" Adrain groaned quietly.
