The first thing Vagisilious noticed when reviving a player compared to reviving other people was that it felt much heavier. In what sense, she couldn't quite put her words together.
With her earlier casts of revival, she was able to just cast the spell and watch their souls come back to their bodies. This time, she had to manually mend the rift between soul and body. A titanic effort for someone who could hardly visualize the concept properly a month ago.
Tokino had reverted their bodies back 500 years, and Theadul managed to keep their souls within their bodies, but it was still difficult to actually revive them.
Trillion Teraphims shone brightly as it split up in the air, circling the bodies and keeping the ritual from breaking.
Vagisilious used her soul magic to command Theadul and PopStarry's souls into their body. It should've been possible. Her entire build was focused on the soul.
But… It feels as though there was a scar upon their souls. They're terrified of having to face whatever killed them once before.
Why? The Cult of Fate must've been the culprits given Focalors reaction to their presence. What could they have seen that made them resist the call of life?
It didn't really matter what they thought of it.
Because Vagisilious did not imagine a world where she could fail this duty.
With one final push, the talismans from Trillion Teraphims broke into light.
The revival was successful.
Theadul and PopStarry began to cough as air was funneled into their working lungs for the first time in 500 years.
Vagisilious, Ulbert, and Momonga quickly hovered over their two friends while everyone else warily watched on, knowing that it wasn't their time to speak.
Channeling healing spells even though she logically knew that they didn't need it, Vagisilious worriedly asked, "Theadul! PopStarry! Are you okay?!"
"Huh-?!" Was the first intelligible thing that came out of PopStarry's throat before she resumed coughing and gasping for air.
Theadul recovered first, as he managed to catch his breath and quietly remarked, "Ah… That worked."
A few moments after him, PopStarry's first words were, "Oh! Oh! This feels so weird!"
Theadul and PopStarry both held their hands up, and the trio took them both up so they could stand.
With the tact of an elephant, the first thing Ulbert asked was, "So, what killed you?"
Momonga was caught off guard by Ulbert, completely surprised he would ask that so quickly, "Are you serious?! They were just dead a second ago-"
"Someone named Sengoku," Theadul answered seriously, completely ignoring Momonga, "Did you kill him?"
Ulbert shook his head, totally ignoring everyone else in the room, "Nah. We saw a wanted poster of him though. Said he was a parasite?"
"A parasite?" A small frown appeared on Theadul's face, "That man was a virus. I sincerely hope that if he were to have died before our revival, it was a death most painful."
PopStarry scoffed as she remarked, "Oh, yeah, screw that guy. Talked big game about wanting to see us again, despite betraying and killing us. What a joke!"
"Um. My masters…" Focalors quietly spoke up from behind the two Greed Kings.
PopStarry turned around and was pleasantly surprised, "Oh! Focalors! You're here too?! Oh, were you also revived?"
Immensely relieved that PopStarry was still as she remembered, Focalors held in tears as she informed them, "I have patiently waited and watched over you for 500 years…"
"Really? It's been 500 years since we died?" Theadul tilted his head, seemingly pitying her, "You didn't need to wait on us for that long, you know."
Slightly bowing, she replied, "It was my decision to keep watch. I am simply honored to be in front of your living presence again, my lords."
PopStarry sighed, bringing a hand to her forehead, "Well, sure… But now you're older than we both are, and that's kind of weird, you know?"
Momonga found PopStarry's response humorous as he chuckled, "Is that really what you're focused on?"
PopStarry snapped back, "Hey! It's a perfectly reasonable thing to focus on!"
Joining in on the discussion, Ulbert mocked her, "It's perfectly reasonable if you assume that PopStarry has nothing inside her head, yeah."
Rolling his eyes yet smiling, Theadul replied, "Well, I see that you haven't changed at all, Ulbert."
Ulbert sparkled as he unashamedly nodded, "Of course!"
Despite being revived only a few moments ago, Theadul and PopStarry seemed completely unbothered at being transported 500 years into the future and into Nazarick.
In typical Vagislious fashion, she was absolutely sobbing at the sight of her friends acting as though they weren't just revived from a period of 500 years ago. Acting as they were still the same friends.
And, because PopStarry was such a good friend, she had spotted Vagisilious crying and she adopted a funny expression on her face as she remarked, "Darn. Vaggy, this is like the 5th time I've seen you cry."
It was embarrassing that Vagisilious was quick to move to tears. But if she looked on the brighter side, it just meant that Earth didn't dry her of tears.
So, she tearfully nodded, ignoring her sniffling, "Yeah! I'm just- I'm just so happy right now!"
Still carrying his smile, Theadul responded, "We're happy too, but I'm afraid that we're just too addled by death that we can't quite show it as openly as you are."
Ignoring Theadul's words, PopStarry grinned, "Oh! You're just embarrassed! We can just focus on all of the sad stuff later! C'mon, give us a hug!"
Vagisilious immediately runs into PopStarry without another word.
Breathing heavily, Tsaindorcus Vaision, the Platinum Dragon Lord, knew that there was no more fight left in him.
Just an hour ago, he was contemplating his next moves, now that his allies in the Argland Council State had betrayed him. But now, it seemed he wouldn't be able to enact any of those moves.
Seraphim has ended their period of consolidation. And their first target was him.
Without warning, he was thrown out of Eryuentiu by one of Seraphim's leaders and forced to battle Seraphim's angels, led by someone he recognized as Apollyon.
While Tsaindorcus would've loved to claim it was an even fight, that was far from the truth.
While the rest of the Seraphim began to lay siege to the city, barbarically slaughtering both demihumans and those who resisted, Apollyon dealt with the Platinum Dragon Lord.
The darkly armored angel was similar to the other angels Tsaindorcus has seen over the years. Extremely mechanical, just like a golem. The only difference with Apollyon was that he was wearing armor.
Dragging his cutlass along the floor, scarring the land beneath, Apollyon remarked, "Hm, this is my first time fighting a dragon in this world. But you're so pathetically weak… It is a shame, is it not?"
When did Apollyon get that cutlass? Just a moment ago, he was fighting with a more traditional greatsword.
Tsaindorcus's eyes shifted to behind Apollyon. Someone of a shorter statue, a freak of nature with many eyes. Though they looked to be an angel, Tsaindorcus could barely see the resemblance.
Perhaps they were carrying the cutlass beforehand, but why the sudden change in weapon?
It mattered not. All Tsaindorcus needed to do was to live to fight another day. Anything else was pointless.
Lifting the cutlass up, Apollyon carefully touched the blade and began to explain for no apparent reason, "This weapon is called Divine Departure. It's a wonderful name, is it not? But despite being called Divine Departure, this weapon is mostly used as a greeting weapon. You're not really meant to use it for any longer than a few swings. That being said, I wanted to fight a dragon, so I managed to convince them to actually use it as a farewell."
Though Tsaindorcus wanted to ignore his words as the ranting of someone overly confident in himself, he recognized the aura of that blade.
Backing up a few steps, fearing its wrath, Tsaindorcus asked, "That is… A world item, is it not?"
He didn't think it would be likely that Apollyon would answer. But it seemed as though the angel was much more kind than Tsaindorcus had thought of him.
"It is, yes!" Apollyon confirmed, eagerly showing off the weapon, "It is said that the first Pirate King, Roger, once wielded this weapon! Though, I'm pretty sure he called it Ace instead of Divine Departure. But you know how a name changes through the ages. Anyhow, this was actually owned by who you know to be the Minotaur Sage before he died. Then it changed a few hands before eventually being picked up by us."
The Minotaur Sage… Tsaindorcus knew that name. The Primordial Dragon Lord killed him 120 years ago. How could he have missed this weapon during his looting?
Leveling the cutlass towards him, Apollyon sincerely said, "I'm afraid that you're the first thing we're testing Divine Departure on. So, sorry if you're sent somewhere we can't reach. Eyesee? This is your moment."
Tsaindorcus saw the many-eyed angel behind Apollyon leap towards him with some sort of dagger in hand.
Knowing he was done for if that attack landed, Tsaindorcus constructed a shield in front of him, hoping to block the attack.
But Eyesee simply teleported behind the shield, instantly stabbing him in his leg.
Tsaindorcus flew up a moment later, but against angels, it was a futile effort.
"Future generations needed to know of your cruelty…" He snarled, furious at his inability to fight against the angel. He hung helplessly in the air, unable to teleport due to the fighting beforehand.
Apollyon innocently tilted his head as if they both couldn't hear the wailing of Eryuentiu, "Cruelty? I don't ever remember hearing about how the way those monsters treated humanity was cruel back when I was young… Instead, it was portrayed as a misfortune and unintended consequence."
Back in the days of the 13 heroes, Tsaindorcus heard of the home planet of players. Earth, they called it. A miserable land filled with poison and rot. Beyond that, it was up to his own speculation to figure out what had created such bloodthirsty and callous people.
At the end of his life, Tsaindorcus had his answer. Monsters raise monsters.
Yet, Apollyon continued, "The way we see it… We only need care for those who remain. And that those who die should be granted a swift death. Anything that contradicts these words are because of the softies in our council, needlessly prolonging the suffering."
Then, as if he flipped a switch, Apollyon's figure became more casual. As though he was not introspective just a moment ago.
Shrugging his shoulders, Apollyon squatted down, "Oh well, it doesn't really matter. Instead, let me focus on the things I can do…"
Tsaindorcus tried to teleport away once more, but he was still exhausted from the fight before. As such, he could only helplessly watch what came next.
"I've always wanted to shout something like this!" Apollyon joyfully shouted out as he flapped his wings towards Tsaindorcus, his cutlass glowing dangerously bright.
"Divine…"
From what Tsaindorcus heard and experienced in his battles against players, his kind had limited resistance against world items. But the key word was limited. How would it fare against something Tsaindorcus didn't even know?
Apollyon swung. They both knew that the fight was over.
"DEPARTURE!"
And with that, Tsaindorcus was sent to lands unknown.
"And that was essentially what happened before we died," Theadul finished explaining what had happened 500 years ago.
It was an extremely informative past hour as they figured some of the lore behind why the world is the way it is today. And people were rightfully annoyed that the main thing that the Greed Kings did was to immediately start killing demi-humans and heteromorphs. But they did agree that the whole eating humans thing was a bit deranged, and so they were able to move past it fairly easily.
The more important part was that the Cult of Fate was a lot more relevant than they really wanted them to be.
Not to mention that Vagislious's theory of what the words in the puzzle section of the Forgotten City was essentially entirely wrong. Which made it even more confusing on why that puzzle was there in the first place.
Focalors was there for the Forgotten City's transformation, but she wasn't there for the discussions on what the Cult of Fate were changing the city into. The most relevant information she knew was that around 80 years ago, Principality dropped by the Forgotten City, basically activated every trap there, pushed the Cult of Fate basically away from the city, and left once he met Focalors.
So, apparently, the Cult of Fate never got around to replacing the traps there? Or even just came back in the first place, because the city was empty aside from Focalors and the visiting GreenWitch.
It was an extremely frustrating puzzle to put together. The Cult of Fate was likely one of the most important players on the table, but they seemed to follow absolutely no sort of internal consistency. Why are they here? Why did they fight against the 8 Greed Kings? Why did they do whatever they did to the Forgotten City? What have they been doing for the 500 years that they've apparently been here for?
It was just rage-inducing, how basically nothing in that cult made any sense.
Denshosho, given his experience in theorycrafting, came up with something that made the most amount of sense with the information that they currently had.
"Considering that they don't rule the world at the moment, or never have ruled the planet from what the limited history we know, they're likely waiting for something or someone," Denshosho suggested, getting a decent amount of head nods in return, "If we think about their actions from the perspective of, say, bored players… They're building what was basically a guild base, picking fights with mostly random people, creating a cult dedicated to Fate… It does sound like they're waiting and just doing random things for 500 years to pass the time, right?"
Crossing her arms, Vagisilious dissented, "But then that would basically mean that every single thing that they've done was for basically no reason. Isn't that, you know, a bit callous? It'd mean that every life that they ruined was basically for fun."
Taking Denshosho's side, Ulbert pointed out, "I mean, if we were to know that we had to wait 500 years for something… Wouldn't we be doing a ton of random things like that to pass all of that time?"
Leveling an unimpressed look at him, Vagisilious replied, "If you had no empathy, sure."
"I have empathy," Ulbert lamely tried to convince her.
"Maybe," Vagisilious conceded, not wanting to say yes.
Orphea lightly cleared her throat, "Ahem, regardless of you guys bickering, I do agree that 500 years is a lot of time to spend. Especially if your whole motif is fate, and that fate won't be relevant until hundreds of years into the future."
"...So what was the reason why they don't rule the world already?" Bellriver questioned, scratching one of his mouths, "Like, they had 500 years. They also have a world enemy-level person on their side. I feel like they should've done that, even if by accident, no?"
Giving a light shrug, Denshosho replied, "I think it makes the most sense if they had to keep the status of the world mostly intact for whatever fate they wanted. Like, you can't really join a game that's basically over, right?"
Of course, it went without saying that they still had no idea why the world needed to be kept stable under anyone but their control. It would likely be cleared up when they actually learnt what the Cult of Fate were going for, but that likely wasn't going to happen for a while.
With that in mind, Vagisilious asked, "So, considering you guys met Zenith in Slane and we met GreenWitch in the Forgotten City, it does sound like they're being pretty active, right? Does that mean that whatever they're waiting for is happening soon?"
Tapping his forehead, Ulbert insultingly wondered out loud, "Hmm. I wonder if there's someone important who has just openly confessed to us about her being from another world with the possibility of having weird powers that may or may not be so powerful it can even work when we were humans…"
Yeah, okay, so the Cult of Fate may have been waiting for her. That was just such a great thought to have looming over her head.
That being said, she wasn't going to take that, so Vagisilious wondered out loud, "Ah, yeah, I think there's someone like that. If only there were, say, a big, strong, demon who would be able to protect me if someone like, oh I don't know, THE CONCEPT OF FATE ITSELF, came straight at me."
"I could do that," Ulbert lamely tried to convince her.
Rolling her eyes, Vagisilious agreed, "Yeah, I'm sure you'd fit that job description."
Ulbert seemed like the type of person who could just fight against an immaterial concept if he really wanted to. It was probably the way he casually rags against every single authority figure he hears about.
"So, while this is all nice and all," Surprisingly, Touch was the person to progress the subject, "We're a guild of 41. We're not going to have issues with killing a world enemy or two, if Sengoku is even alive anymore. Our more pressing issue is Seraphim. I don't think whatever the Cult of Fate is doing right now even counts as a number 2 for us, considering that Principality is still on the table for either us or Seraphim to get as an ally."
Considering that the one time that they heard Sengoku's name from GreenWitch was in past tense, it was likely that Sengoku died. Likely to Seraphim, if Principality killed Zenith.
Which actually brings up a great question of why didn't Sengoku just kill Principality in that era? Was Sengoku sleeping or something?
The more Vagisilious thinks about the timeline of what the hell the Cult of Fate was doing the past 500 years, the less sense that it makes. Was that supposed to be the intention, or was the Cult of Fate just really bored and decided to do things nonsensically, making trying to figure them out pointless?
Either way, all signs still pointed to Seraphim being the greater threat at the current moment. The Cult of Fate can be dealt with whenever they have the free time.
So…
"...You guys are fighting Seraphim?" PopStarry slowly asked, her voice full of confusion.
Narrowing his eyes, Theadul told them, "Considering that we've told you what happened 500 years ago, perhaps we should be filled in on what happened since you've all arrived in this world?"
"Ah, right, that's our bad, sorry," Vagisilious apologized, before turning to Momonga, "Hey, guild leader, help."
Because he was a skeleton, Momonga had no facial expressions. But she was pretty certain that if he did have a face, it would be mildly annoyed.
"Why do I have to… Agh, fine," Knowing it was pointless to argue, Momonga recounted what happened in the past 2 weeks.
At the end of the explanation, PopStarry and Theadul both essentially said the same thing at the same time, "Well, that's stupid."
Knowing where those words have gone before, Vagisilious cautiously asked, "...Us, or them?"
"Both of you," Again, they said essentially the same thing.
Extremely worried about the situation now, Vagisilious prayed to whoever was listening as she asked one last question, "So, you're siding with…?"
"You guys," They said, immediately destroying the tension in the room and replacing it with relief.
PopStarry quit the whole double act as she shrugged and stated their case, "I get why Principality wanted to stay neutral. I know that he was good friends with Bless back in the day, so he probably doesn't want to spit on his legacy. That being said, I don't know any Seraphim members, and I'm not really sold on their whole brainwashed utopia project from the sound of it. So, I think I'm alright with fighting along with you guys again."
Nodding, Theadul followed up with an unimpressed glance towards Vagisilious, "It would've been nice to actually know we were going to be sent to another world, though. Instead of just being told vague hints about it."
"Would you have believed me?" Vagisilious asked.
"No."
It wasn't even that funny, but she audibly snorted anyway because it was funny to her.
It was also equally relieving that Theadul and PopStarry weren't going to hang them out to dry like Principality did. Vagisilious does see why he did that, but she still disagreed with it.
With that in mind, Vagisilious questioned, "Well, Now that you're all here, do you think that Principality will actually agree to meet with us again?"
Their group of six grinded for almost 4 years together at the end of Yggdrasil. Surely Principality isn't that heartless to not have a reunion now that all of them are alive again?
Which was when Theadul suggested, "Hm, considering his neutrality, I would advise against it."
Even PopStarry was surprised at Theadul declining to try, "Huh?! Wait, are you serious, Theadul!?"
Vagisilious was completely stumped and she had a worried expression on her face as she asked, "Why?"
Theadul shrugged as he answered, "While I would love to meet with him again, you said that he will fight against anyone who permanently kills someone first, correct?" Hearing no objections, Theadul continued, "While it might be petty of me to suggest this, I'm equally sure Principality would not want to lose his friends. So, tell Principality that we are fine and well. And that the remainder of the 8 Greed Kings will support Ainz Ooal Gown against Seraphim. I'm sure of Principality's character, so I don't think he will completely abandon his neutrality. But I am sure that he will be a lot louder about gaining some sort of peace deal between us to ensure that first blood won't be us. Something that Seraphim could interpret as Principality subtly siding with Ainz Ooal Gown."
It was… Logically sound. It was unpleasant to have to lead on their friend like this, but Vagisilious sees the merit in making Principality worried about Theadul and PopStarry.
Momonga followed the same logic, "It makes sense but… Is it really necessary?"
"You're the one trying to fight the best guild in Yggdrasil with at least 70 members here," Theadul blandly pointed out, "Unless you were planning to lose, I would quite like to have the best player in Yggdrasil for practically the past decade on my side."
That was fair. Ainz Ooal Gown subscribed to the idea that only idiots would ever plan to actually lose. And that any losses were just necessary steps to further their own goals.
In Yggdrasil, losing usually meant the end for you. Whether it was through losing 5 levels and being unable to clear content fast enough to catch up to whatever goals needed to be achieved, or the destruction of the guild base.
In real life, it was much the same. They would either win and get everything they wanted. Or they would lose to Seraphim and it wouldn't be their problem anymore. And if it was a problem to someone in Ainz Ooal Gown at that point, they missed their opportunity to fix it.
As such, pressuring Principality into joining a side was the smartest option to do.
Sighing, Vagisilious forlornly said, "Man, Principality is going to be pissed when we send the news…"
"He can suck it up," Ulbert said, leaning on Momonga likely to make himself look cooler, "He waited for a hundred years to see us, he can wait for another year to see them."
Knowing that this particular line of conversation seemed to be over, Theadul then asked, "Speaking of waiting, I suppose you can't spare the risk to see if Eryuentiu is safe or not?"
Raising an eyebrow, Vagisilious question, "Why would we not be able to check out Eryuentiu?"
"I assume that Seraphim has it in their hands by now," He answered, making a lot of sense.
Considering that Eryuentiu was a floating island, and Kami no Toshokan was a series of floating islands, it only made sense that Seraphim would claim it as their own thing. And considering that it sounds like every NPC fell to whatever corruption came from killing almost every dragon, Eryuentiu would've been essentially unprotected. And most likely, it would've reverted to its dungeon form again.
But… Could that be the case?
Vagisilious looked to Focalors, who was idly standing next to the only other NPC in the room, Tokino in her qillin form, "This is a bit off-topic, but shouldn't Eryuentiu still be your guild base? I assume that Focalors would've been deleted if the guild base reverted to its dungeon form. But then again, it could just be that deletion doesn't really exist in this world…"
At that point, everyone turned to Focalors, causing her to slightly shift at the sudden attention.
PopStarry raised an eyebrow, "Oh, I didn't consider that… Uh, Focalors, do you know if Eryuentiu is still around?"
Shaking her head, Focalors replied, "I'm afraid I kept myself with you for the entire 500 years we've been separated."
Someone needs to get Focalors therapy or something, because this was too sad in Vagisilious's opinion.
Wasn't Focalors married to another NPC-
"Could you guys revive all of your NPCs if we got you into Eryuentiu with like, 5 billion gold?" Vagisilious blurted out as soon as she materialized the thought in her head.
It was a good idea in theory. PopStarry once mentioned that all of the 8 Greed King's NPCs were level 100, choosing for quality over quantity.
Of course, they had to spend a lot of money on those extra few hundred levels, but Theadul and PopStarry were both corporate babies.
That was 900 extra levels of assistance they could get from Eryuentiu if revival was possible.
If.
Punitto vocalized that single word, "We don't know if gold can revive them. Vaggy and I tested if reviving NPCs was possible using spells, and we confirmed that was impossible. That isn't even to mention the state of what your guild base could be in right now, even if it were possible."
"...Well, testing if reviving NPCs with gold should be easy enough, right?" Orphea cautiously started. She didn't go any further because everyone got the jist of what she was going to say.
Glaring at Orphea, Whitebrim simply stated, "If you think about killing one of the level 1 maids to test out if revival works in the first place, I might kill you first."
Peroroncino didn't even defend Orphea as she raised her hands in surrender, "I was just pointing out the obvious solution."
At that point, Tokino fervently spoke up, "My lords! We would be overjoyed if we were to be able to contribute to your understanding of the world by dying!"
"Don't say that, Tokino," Vagisilious blandly asked, "We like you better alive."
Still, it couldn't be denied that the idea of killing a low-cost NPC would be good to find out how they needed to treat their NPCs. Whether as high-cost pieces to use cautiously or to keep them as the defenders of Nazarick forever.
Which was why she wasn't that surprised when Ancient One said, "So, uh, considering this is a pretty important thing that we should know and not leave up to luck… I'm perfectly okay with volunteering up my maid, Foth, up to the execution stand."
Daijobubua was the first to incredulously ask him, "Seriously?"
He nodded, "Seriously."
"Now hold on-"
"Of course we're going this-"
"Oh thank god-"
Killing the tidal wave of noise that was about to manifest, Punitto shouted out, "ALRIGHT WE HAVE OUR VOLUNTEER! EVERYONE ELSE SHUT UP!"
Obediently, everyone shut up.
With silence achieved, Punitto stood straight and looked into Ancient One's eyes, "So, if you're serious about that, call in Foth and kill her yourself. Momonga, get the guild weapon."
"Myself? Seriously?" Ancient One looked a bit disturbed, "I get what you're doing, but like, damn. I'll do it because I love Ainz Ooal Gown more than I like Foth, but this doesn't look good for either of us, you know?"
As Ancient One called Foth in, Punitto responded, "I know. I just wanted to impress upon you the severity of what you're basically doing."
Finishing the message, Ancient One responded back, "It'll only matter if we're wrong."
Because Foth was one of the maids who worked on the 9th floor, and today, worked very close to the teleporter, she immediately showed up to the throne room.
"Hello, Ancient One! I am grateful for the honor to die by your hands for the greater good of Nazarick!" Foth earnestly said, a massive grin on her faith as she bowed beneath the giant dragon.
Theadul blinked, "That was fast…"
"Yikes, the mood changed instantly and now it's scary…" PopStarry whispered to her brother.
Punitto then told Momonga, "Hand the guild weapon to, ah, Peroroncino. Theadul and PopStarry aren't the guild leaders last I recall, and we might not even have the guild weapons. So, Orphea, you go to the Throne of Kings."
When everyone got into position, Punitto calmly told Ancient One, "By the way, do your best to not leave a body behind. Since I assume that the rest of their NPCs weren't as lucky as Theadul and PopStarry were."
All Ancient One did to acknowledge that statement was a small nod.
Then, Ancient One lowered his body as flames began to burn within his mouth.
He was a fully melee tank, but as a dragon, he still did have a small bonus towards the few magic spells he gained from being a dragon. And it was a lot easier to not leave a body behind using magic than it was using one of his monk skills.
"Thank you for this honor, Lord Ancient One!" Foth earnestly shouted as everyone began to clear from the path where his flames would go.
Without offering anything back, Ancient One opened his mouth. A moment later, not even the ashes remained.
Vagisilious winced at how one of their NPCs was so casually killed by their own creator like that. Even though she repeatedly ensured it was fine, it was still unpleasant to her stomach to watch.
She had both respect for Ancient One for being able to go through with it. And a bit of suspicion in his morality that he was actually serious about going through with it.
Standing to the side, Ancient One let everyone else do their part.
First, Orphea checked the menus available on the Throne of Kings, "So, I can confirm that Foth is dead… Uh, tapping on it doesn't show me a revival option so… I'm just going to shout, FOTH! REVIVE!"
After 5 seconds, absolutely nothing happened. The tension in the room silently increased.
Wordlessly, Peroroncino handed the Staff of Ainz Ooal Gown to Orphea.
Looking through the menus again, Orphea continued, "Okay, still no revives… So, just winging it, FOTH! REVIVE!"
After 5 seconds, there was still no sign of resurrection being possible. The tension in the room was able to be felt in all of their stomachs.
"...Maybe it's the gold aspect we're missing?" Amanomahitotsu suggested, mostly to let some of the tension in his own body out, "It might not work if our gold is still in the treasury, or something like that."
At that moment, Vagisilious opened her inventory and dumped out a total of 1 million gold. The absurdity of the motion cut through some of the tension as Ulbert asked, "You carry that much in your inventory?"
"I forgot to put it in the treasury," Vagisilious replied, unable to crack a joke.
At that moment, Orphea handed back the Staff of Ainz Ooal Gown to Peroroncino as she tried again, "FOTH! REVIVE!"
After 5 seconds…
There was still nothing.
Knowing that it was the last chance for the 8 Greed Kings being able to see their NPCs again, Peroroncino wordlessly handed back the staff as Orphea tried one last time, "FOTH! REVIVE!"
Suddenly, the Staff of Ainz Ooal Gown visibly reacted with power, the air around it trembling.
The small pile of gold suddenly began shifting as the upper layer of it began to liquify and move towards the ground, gathering in a pool.
If Vagisilious recalled, it only took around 5,000 gold to revive a level 1 NPC. With some cosmetic gear, it was probably closer to 10,000. And that looked to have been roughly what was taken from the pile of a million gold.
The pool of gold began to coalesce into the shape of a person. In the shape of Foth.
Gold turned to skin, and in no time at all, Foth was spawned into existence. Alive.
As Foth began to wake up, the tension in the room immediately dissipated as the stakes were lowered with the knowledge that revival was still on the table. A valuable piece of information to know to ensure that the safety net that they had behind them was strong.
Foth blinked a few times, gaining sight of her surroundings, and as soon as she realized where she was, she jumped up to her feet and bowed, "OH! My masters! How can I be of service to you today?!"
From the looks of it, Foth didn't seem to have changed at all. She was still wearing her maid dress, she was unharmed, and she didn't even seem to remember she died.
Testing that last theory out, Ancient One asked, "What do you last remember?"
She immediately answered, "I was called here by you, my creator! I remember entering the throne room, but then I woke up here!"
Vagisilious thought that it was a bit convenient that nobody actually realized that they died when they're revived. Though, it was definitely welcomed, since she doubted anyone wanted to have any guilt or bad feelings over the failure of death.
Punitto seemed to be satisfied with the testing, "So, we've confirmed that the revival process can be used by anyone as long as they're in the guild while they're holding the guild weapon and have a pile of gold lying around, with a maybe on the requirement of sitting on the guild throne. That's good to know."
It was a bit different in Yggdrasil, because only the guild leader had the option to revive NPCs. But they could only do so on the guild throne and the weapon wasn't necessary. Perhaps it was just an adjustment to the game becoming real?
Either way, that specific conversation came to an end. It was essentially just a very tense testing session, after all.
With that in mind, Ancient One sent Foth away and Vagisilious changed the topic.
"So, do you guys want to check Eryuentiu very quickly, just to see if Seraphim is there?" Vagisilious asked, looking to Theadul and PopStarry specifically.
"...You sure do work fast," Theadul quietly comments before clearing his throat, "Ahem, yes. If you can spare the time…"
In support of checking the guild base was Punitto, who simply shrugged, "Yeah, the sooner the better. I think next on our list is making sure Argland is on our side and making sure Seraphim thinks we're there. So, as long as you don't just teleport directly into the city, I think the rest of us can go to Argland and make some obvious noise there to make Seraphim focus their attention up north."
However, Nishikienrai spoke up, "Uh, just wanted to know… Doesn't that basically invite Seraphim to raze Argland to the ground? They still have a pretty sizable numbers advantage on us. Not even mentioning that a lot of their builds counter our negative karma builds…"
"If they send all 72 members of Seraphim to Argland, we can have our NPCs sacrifice themselves to stall them while we take out Kami no Toshokan. If they send only, say, 40 of their members to Argland, we can probably win a straight out fight with all our resources, even if it's costly," Punitto said, making himself sound very convincing, "We still don't know if Seraphim has an NPC with a really convenient bio that makes them a world enemy like we had with Leviathan, though. That's my only real concern with a fight with Seraphim. We don't know what they have right now, NPCs or world items."
Despite Vagisilious thinking that it was just a bit hypocritical for Punitto to have Ancient One kill his own NPC, only to start talking about sacrificing their NPCs to stall Seraphim, he did have a solid plan for the worst case scenario.
That being said, he was right in saying that they had no clue what Seraphim's NPCs were. Vagisilious was sure that there might've been a full guide of the base close to the end of the game that detailed everything. After all, the guild base did get raided pretty frequently even if they all failed.
It was just that Vagisilious never could've imagined Seraphim coming to the new world with them, so she never checked to see anything about them. Meaning that they were about as blind regarding the fighting capabilities of Seraphim other than "They were number 1 so they're probably really strong."
With that put aside, she told the two Greed Kings, "So, if you guys just open a gate to somewhere a bit far from Eryuentiu, I can check with my divination to see if the guild base is still there."
Then Mekongawa spoke up, "I can summon a raven for you to lock onto, if you want to play it super safe."
At the same time, Suratan confusedly asked Mekongawa, "You had summoning spells?"
She'll be honest, she totally forgot Mekongawa had a few summoning spells. It was only low tier stuff from one of the lower classes that Mekongawa took to get the beast tamer class, but she supposed that worked just fine.
So, Vagisilious nodded, "Yeah, honestly, you could just open a gate anywhere, point to the direction where Eryuentiu is, and we can check it using my divination."
So, without saying a word, Theadul created a gate.
And, like clockwork, a raven appeared quite literally out of nowhere and went through the gate. At the same time, Vagisilious used the raven as a moving anchor to always stay in range of a living soul, allowing her to see whatever the raven is near.
Then, the gate closed, but since divination was such a nice magic ability, Vagisilious still had her divination up. So, she simply created a screen to let everyone see what she was seeing.
After about a minute of waiting, Eryuentiu and the city below the floating island were in sight.
…Swarmed by angels.
"Well, that's it, then," Luci*Fer sighed, losing all interest, "Eryuentiu is in the hands of Seraphim so we can't… Wait, are they attacking people there?"
As it turned out, swarm was more accurate than they all initially thought. Because as Vagisilious's observation grew closer to the city, the more clear it was that Seraphim was in the middle of some sort of purge against demi-humans and the humans who resisted.
"Wait a second, why are there demi-humans in our human city?" Was what PopStarry was apparently focused on, "We specifically made that city as the capital of humanity!"
"PopStarry," Was all Momonga needed to say to remind her of the company she was in.
As PopStarry nervously scratched her head in embarrassment, Vagisilious asked a question that everyone was probably thinking, "Did they just take over Eryuentiu today?"
"Does it really matter?" Tabula questioned, "Regardless if they just took it today, it looks like we won't have a chance at reviving their NPCs if they take the guild weapon…"
At that reminder that the guild weapon and base were the only important things that Vagisilious needed to find, she immediately disconnected from the raven in order to hop around the city and into the guild base.
She was also pretty lucky that nobody had high tier anti-divination spells active. But seeing as it looked like most of the invading forces were angel summons, she figured it was just that Seraphim didn't care to actually send their best to take over the city.
As she made her way into the guild base proper, the rest of the guild had a quick conversation.
Nubo tilted his head, "So, why did Seraphim decide to just go full on attack? Don't they have the power to just walk into the city and claim it as theirs?"
Quickly coming up with an idea, BigStall suggested, "They could just be planning to use Control Amnesia to just make everyone forget the attack. That's probably within their power, right?"
"Hm, at that point, why not just take over the city by walking in and deport the demi-humans in it, like apparently they did to a whole bunch of different places?" Tigris said, "There's not much purpose to just starting to kill a whole bunch of people."
However, before they could continue that line of thought, Vagisilious pulled back everyone's attention, "Found players. Shut up, let me see if I can get close enough to hear what they're saying clearly."
Walking through the guild base of the 8 Greed Kings, Apollyon was enjoying the scenery of the castle from 500 years ago.
Eyesee was not.
"Hey, Apollyon, you do realize that we're actually looking for something instead of nonchalantly walking through a museum?" Eyesee annoyedly asked the person who was meant to be protecting her during this minor expedition.
The armored angel chuckled as he turned around to the ophanim and started walking backwards, "Hey, we're fine! The guild weapon might not even be here for all we know. That Tsaindorcus fellow was probably loaning it out to a bunch of different people over the years. Who knows if he ever got it back?"
All of Eyesee's eyes twitched as she pointed out, "That lizard probably didn't even know what a guild weapon was."
Shrugging, Apollyon turned back around and made a turn to where he thought the treasury would be, "Eh, you do you! Besides, all we really need to do is make sure that the guild weapon doesn't get into Ainz Ooal Gown's hands. If we can't find it here, then we basically completed our objective!"
In return, Eyesee sighed in frustration, "You're a stupid bastard. If we don't have it, then it's more likely that some random idiot in the Dragon Kingdom or the Argland Council State has it, where Ainz Ooal Gown has a better chance at finding it than we do."
Apollyon didn't reply, mostly because he hit a dead end and had to embarrassingly turn back around.
After a few moments filled with light curses against whoever made Eryuentiu, Apollyon offered a more productive thought, "Well, I doubt that the guild weapon will be important anyway. The 8 Greed Kings have been dead for 500 years, I doubt they're just going to suddenly revive again."
"Zenith."
"Okay, but that was from a different group."
After a few more twists and turns within Eryuentiu, they finally found their way to the treasury.
Which was just a giant pile of randomly assorted items.
Tilting his head, Apollyon questioned, "So, Eyesee, this is your moment here. Show me that you're better than Elynas!"
Without saying anything, a hundred eyes flew from the head of Eyesee, scanning through the treasury.
As Eyesee went to check every weapon, Apollyon asked, "So, any luck in finding where Tsaindorcus went?"
"No," Eyesee plainly answered, "He must've been hit with the one effect that sent him flying to where I can't reach him."
Apollyon hummed, not too concerned with the inability to find him, "Wasn't that what attacking him with that dagger was for?"
"It didn't work."
"Hm."
The conversation lulled as Eyesee finished her search.
"No guild weapon here," Eyesee concluded, all of her eyes coming back to her head, "I'll tell Mustapha Mond it's probably in the hands of a native. At the very least, that'll likely prevent Ainz Ooal Gown from coming here…"
Apollyon looked to Eyesee, "Hm? How is Ainz Ooal Gown supposed to know that we don't have the guild weapon for this base?"
Eyesee did not move as she simply stated, "They're watching us right now."
Flinching, Apollyon pulled out his blade as he asked, "Seriously?!"
With the best unimpressed expression that an ophanim could give, Eyesee replied, "Yes, seriously. We thought it would be too obvious if you knew, so we didn't tell you this. But we had a plan in case Ainz Ooal Gown intervened today with our conquest. Evidently, considering the fact that we're not fighting Ainz Ooal Gown right now, it seems as though they were mostly here to figure out what we're doing. Perhaps finding the guild weapon would've spurred them into action, but at that point, attacking us and our army would still be pointless. There won't be a fight today."
"...You could've just pretended to find the guild weapon, if we wanted them to fall into a trap, you know," Apollyon said, proving that he had some semblance of intellect beneath his head.
Eyesee scoffed, "I didn't want to fight. Anyways, the fact that Ainz Ooal Gown is even looking at Eryuentiu right now is tipping us off to the fact that either Principality is giving them information, they were here before so they were looking for something to double check something, or that they have actual Greed Kings telling them where Eryuentiu was. Of the three, which do you think is the likeliest?"
Sheathing his blade, Apollyon replied, "Uh, not 3?"
Eyesee resisted the urge to face palm, "Ugh. It doesn't really matter. This was really just a test for me to use [Follow Divination]."
Her vision is pulled north, just as she suspected. Going at what must've been thousands of miles per hour, she was being pulled towards-
She did not complete her divination, because a gate opened in front of her, revealing the arm of Ulbert Alain Odle.
Half a second later, [Demon's Temptation] interrupted her skill, leaving her only with the knowledge that Nazarick was somewhere north of Eryuentiu.
Ulbert pulled his hand back before Apollyon could hit him with Divine Departure, and the gate closed as soon as he was gone.
So, that was the one chance they had to find Nazarick the easiest way gone. Now they know that Eyesee specifically picked up counter divination classes. Their divination players won't be so careless next time.
Eyesee blandly told Apollyon, "You're worthless."
"Warn me you were going to do something!" Apollyon annoyedly shouted, "If I knew that you were about to do something that invited an enemy, I would've had Divine Departure ready!"
Without another word, Eyesee opened a gate to Kami no Toshokan.
There was nothing else worthwhile for Seraphim in Eryuentiu. Mustapha Mond can figure out what to do with the city.
In Yggdrasil, counter divination was something that most players had. However, that was mostly limited to attacking players who were looking at their location and preventing them from doing it further.
There were classes that were specifically built to counter divination players. However, Seraphim were all heteromorph angel players, as such they only had 60 class levels to use. While human players might be able to afford spending the 5 or 10 levels and the intermediate or advanced job class slot to counter divination, for the heteromorph playerbase, it wasn't very useful.
It was a similar vein to picking a class that only gave fire resistance abilities and perks. It was just too niche a class to ever use when you could just take an actual divination class or something with actual use to it.
But it looks like Eyesee was genuinely insane, and chose to invest those levels into the higher classes of anti-divination.
Fortunately, Ulbert managed to interrupt Eyesee casting before her sight reached Nazarick. If Nazarick's anti-divination spells activated, that was when they would know that their game was up and Seraphim would be invading Nazarick.
Vagisilious clicked her tongue, annoyed that the entire situation happened in the first place, "God, why would Eyesee have a class like that? Genuinely insane!"
Stretching his arm to relax it, Ulbert scoffed, "Yeah, I didn't expect that either. Good thing I was prepared to counter whatever the hell they were planning since they started monologuing."
"I didn't even consider it…" Punitto sighed, patting Ulbert on the back, "Good job, dude."
"Thanks," Ulbert calmly accepted the compliment, "Let's not get into that situation again, alright, Vaggy, Nubo?"
With just a slight nod, Vagisilious confirmed, "Yeah, I'm not going anywhere near that girl. The next time I use divination, let's do it in Argland just in case, right?"
Momonga confirmed, "Yeah, that's for the best."
Then, he turned to Theadul and PopStarry, "So, we don't know where your guild weapon is, but we do know that it probably isn't in Seraphim's hand… We'll try our best to find it."
PopStarry sighed, "Well, it was always a stretch… Well, I guess we're in your care now, right?"
Theadul nodded alongside his sister, "For now, let us aid in your operations here. While I'm not sure where Limit Breaker is either, it shouldn't be a priority as of now. Diverting their attention to look anywhere but where Nazarick is still has higher priority, yes?"
Quietly, Momonga looked to Punitto, who silently gestured that it was Momonga's choice.
So, Momonga agreed, "Then that's what we'll do. We'll start going in groups in various places around the world and try to catch Seraphim's attention wherever we go. Then we can have a backup group in Nazarick wherever we actually encounter heavy Seraphim resistance. Does that sound good?"
"If Seraphim find multiple groups at once, at least one group is done for," Punitto pointed out, "And don't tell me that we'll just not get caught multiple times at once. Mind you; it literally just happened a week ago."
"...We'll be careful?" Genjiro suggested, though even he knew that it was a weak argument.
Sighing, all Punitto said in response was, "Yeah, I'm sure you will be. Anyways, our first target should be Argland. Let's start planning for that…"
When the sun rose, Ainz Ooal Gown began their operations in the Argland Council State.
Bonus Story
A Vampire & Elf walk into a bar.
In the capital of the Dragon Kingdom, Triumph, laid a small bar filled with various patients, all intent on drinking the issues of trying to rebuild their capital away.
Principality returned a while ago, though the only thing he was accredited for in the eyes of the citizens was instantly defeating Ulbert Alain Odle… After Ulbert declared his name as someone worth taking out.
So, for the first time in perhaps 100 years, people didn't like King Gojo. It was about time, in Evileye's opinion. She hasn't seen him do anything noteworthy since he essentially destroyed most of the Incarnation of Fate's Will. But even that wasn't very important in the long run because he neglected to take out most of the immortal leadership.
In fact, his lack of care in actually destroying the cult led to this exact situation right now.
A dark elf carrying a massive sheathed blade on his back walked into the bar, sitting right next to Evileye.
The rest of Blue Roses were drinking elsewhere, knowing that Evileye couldn't get drunk because of her vampiric heritage. The very reason why they were in the Dragon Kingdom to begin with.
That vampiric heritage also meant that she was in the awkward position of knowing other immortal people.
"I didn't know that you were in the city, Moniseven," Evileye coldly said, not batting an eye towards the dark elf.
Chuckling, he leaned back in his chair, "I go by Muller as of now. Those Seraphim buddies sure did a number on me when they first appeared."
Tilting her head, Evileye was mildly surprised to hear that Seraphim was even aware of the Incarnation of Fate's Will, "Oh? They really killed you?"
Giving off a simple smile, Moniseven easily replied, "Yep. That body was too weak to actually put up a decent fight. This body is a bit better in that regard. I might be able to beat you now too."
She heard from GreenWitch, the very first member of the Incarnation of Fate's Will that she met, that they could swap bodies if needed through an elaborate ritual. But since Zenith's first death to Principality, this was actually the first time she's seen a change in action.
"Really?" Evileye was amused as she asked, "So, is that a sign that your era is about to come to an end? No more world-spanning conspiracy in every mortal nation?"
Waving her off, Moniseven replied, "Perhaps, maybe not. I believe it'll be another year before Ainz Ooal Gown and Seraphim finish their duel for the throne."
"Ainz Ooal Gown?" Evileye questioned, "The guild that Ulbert Alain Odle rules over?"
Moniseven chuckled, apparently finding whatever Evileye said to be somewhat funny. After his amusement ended, Moniseven confirmed, "Sure. That one. And in anticipation of that great moment, I need you to hold this for me."
Moniseven took the blade off his back, setting it on the counter and began to undo its wrapping.
Before he finished, Evileye asked, "A sword? I thought you were an archer."
"I am," Moniseven confirmed, finishing unwrapping the blade, "But this sword is rather important. Would you mind holding onto it for a while?"
Normally, Evileye wouldn't even consider accepting such a deal. Evileye wasn't even a swordsman. And Lakyus already had a blade and she wasn't a dual-wielder. But there was something about this particular blade that felt… Special.
"Is the blade cursed?" Evileye questioned, not wanting to fall into a trap. Even if it was unlikely for Moniseven to spring one now.
Shaking his head, he cryptically replied, "Blessed."
Well, he wouldn't be a cult member if he wasn't weird about revealing information that he really should just reveal.
Inspecting the sword herself, which seemed to be a pretty well-built traditional style blade, even a mage like Evileye could tell that the craftsmanship was magnificent. But there was no scratch on it. Was it a ceremonial weapon, then? Maybe that's why Moniseven called it blessed.
Either way, she couldn't detect any malice coming off the blade, and she could tell that it was very powerful, maybe even more powerful than the cursed blade that Lakyus wielded.
"I'll take it," Evileye agreed, holding out a hand to shake on it.
Moniseven eagerly took it, "Thank you. All you need to do is hold onto it until I come back for it. It doesn't really matter to me how you use the blade itself, just make sure it doesn't break, alright?"
Then, without saying anything more, Moniseven stood up and quietly left the bar, most patrons not even noticing his presence.
Evileye scoffed. Immortal bodysnatchers may be the worst type of immortal she has ever had the displeasure of associating with. Even the dragons were less confident in every step they made.
The Incarnation of Fate's Will really did move like Fate itself was on their side. At the very least, Evileye will give them props for following their theme.
World Item Bio:
[Divine Departure - World Class Item - A black cutlass held by a legendary pirate. Divine Departure has 3 modes, "Decimation," "Relocation," and "Inert."
While in its Decimation mode, any enemy hit by Divine Departure will be either hit with one of three effects, "Knockback," "Deportation," or "Phase." Enemies hit by Knockback will be knocked back a great distance and cannot be resisted. Enemies hit by Deportation will be transported to a random neutral hub in Yggdrasil. Enemies hit by Phase will be sent to a parallel universe. Skills that would normally transport players within and without the parallel universe are inactive for 10 minutes. Phased players may still meet other players in the parallel universe.
While in its Relocation mode, swings of Divine Departure will create the 10th tier spell, Gate, according to the width of the swing. The user of Divine Departure can select who or what enters these gates, such as enemy or friendly players and projectiles.
While in its Inert mode, Divine Departure will not have any special effects and will act as a normal cutlass, its stats being based upon the highest level equipment in your inventory.]
Divine Departure Lore:
In Asgard, it is said that the sea is made for warriors to fight upon. But it is also important to know that it is not just warriors who sail the seas.
In Midgard, the sea is held to be the cradle of all life, and that the ocean will swallow those who dare underestimate its power. But there was one man who defied the notion that the water was an unbeatable opponent.
And in oceans across the land, rarely was there a figure who could protect the innocent. Until one man on a journey decided to live his life sailing.
Wealth, fame, and power. Roger, the legendary Pirate King, had it all. But within his own home, the ocean was tiny. Rarely were there treasures to be found. Not a single known figure ever made his name by sailing the seas.
But Roger was a man born to sail. So, when he set sail at the sweet age of 18, holding his cutlass he crafted himself, Divine Departure, Roger vowed to make his name known through sailing the seas.
It was just that, ah, Roger was notoriously bad at sailing. And in no time at all, had gotten lost on the seas.
It wasn't until Roger woke up stranded on an island of yellow skies that he considered the idea that he may have just been a world-hopper.
And so, Roger's goals changed. He would not just make his name known by sailing the seas. He would make his name known by sailing through the entirety of Yggdrasil.
For many years since he first set sail, Roger would sail through any patch of water he could find. Whether it was as deep as a puddle or as wide as the entire world, Roger would have explored it.
In doing so, Roger amassed the greatest treasures of all of Yggdrasil. People around the Yggdrasil began to follow in his steps, wanting to become a sailor just like him.
What Roger couldn't stand, however, were those who sought to steal from his fellow sailors! Didn't they have any manners?
And so, with a swing of his trusty Divine Departure, his one and only loyal friend through the decades, Roger's enemies would be flung to lands that Roger previously visited or will visit.
However, despite it all, Roger was still just a human. And humans grew old. The end was nearly upon his voyage and his home would love to hear of all the tales he accumulated over his long life.
Close to the end of his life, he heard of a mighty dragon named Nidhoggr that was terrorizing worlds that he had promised to visit again. And how could Roger visit a world that no longer existed? Obviously, someone had to deal with the Dragon of Nightmare.
Before Roger left to fight his final battle, one man asked the man who was now known as the Pirate King of Yggdrasil, the man who braved any ocean, where was his treasure?
Roger turned around to say one last thing, acting as his final words for he knew that he could not beat Nidhoggr at his age, but must try anyways to fulfill his promises.
"You want my treasure? You can have it! I've left everything I owned in One Piece! Go ahead and find it!"

AN:
First, I thought that this chapter would be 6k. Then I thought it would be 8k. Then I added 2k words worth of bonus story and world item descriptions. Now I have a 10k chapter.
Time Capsule and its random ability to just grow bigger.
Anyways, I now have FIVE DIFFERENT THINGS I have to write for if I want everything to upload on my first fic's anniversary, August 13th. That isn't even mentioning the bi-weekly and weekly upload schedule of Manifest Destiny and Game Development.
Man, I am COOKED.
Anyways, we'll see each other with a small chapter on August 13th detailing mostly just Ulbert & Vaggy's part in Argland, finally getting some romance in this fic probably.
And yeah, we'll finally focus on the whole guild vs guild aspect of the fic again, banishing fate to the waiting room. I've been waiting for as long as you were.
X
Oh yeah, revival keeps the clothing/armor because that's how it works in my Yggdrasil. Not much else to say about it.
Then Tsaindorcus was sent to the backrooms but we'll see him again trust.
I don't think I have much else to say… Huh.
