Higurashi Shrine

Suzuha looked up at the rapidly darkening sky, his vibrant green eyes narrowing in worry. "That doesn't look good," he quietly commented to himself.

"No, it doesn't," Kagome responded, catching his attention. When he turned to face the raven haired beauty, Suzuha noticed that she seemed dressed for battle. She wore her priestess robes with black leather combat boots, with a bow and quiver of arrows slung over one shoulder and a sword strapped to her side. Her chest area was covered with a heavy breastplate. With her hair pulled back into a high ponytail, she truly looked like a warrior priestess from long ago.

Eyes narrowing, a sharp gleam entered her gaze as she continued to stare at the heavens. "Kazuma is also missing. He's not weak, so he must have been caught off-guard."

Suzuha pursed his lips. "Like I was," he said, referring to his untimely demise. If it weren't for Kagome saving him, he wouldn't be alive at that very moment. "It must be someone we both trusted if they managed to get so close."

"Yes." Lightning and thunder flashed across the sky. "We're going to Bishamon's place to save Kazuma. Please lead the way, Suzuha."

He straightened his shoulders, his usual smile curving his lips. "As you wish, Lady Kagome."

After witnessing Yukine's sacrifice and thus rebirth into a Blessed Vessel, Yato tried his best to defend himself against the blonde Kami who was nearly insane with the amount of blight that was consuming her body. He was surprised she could still move at this point, but her hatred ran deep especially as she was reminded of the slaughter of her previous family by Yato's hand.

When next Bishamon charged, Yato was surprised when he was shoved aside and Kazuma was suddenly in his place, intending on taking the blow meant for the God of Calamity.

Emerald green eyes hard with determination and resignation, the last thing he expected was to be saved by a shrine maiden with raven colored hair and dressed in traditional priestess robes. Those same eyes widened, shocked by her actions.

The sound of metal clashing against metal was thunderous. Those who were in the immediate area paused, eyes wide, as they bore witness to their mistress battling with a legendary priestess.

"What?" Bishamon muttered, surprised herself at her opponent's strength. In the next second, she narrowed her eyes and grit her teeth, pushing with all of her might to dominate the other woman.

Kagome held her ground, not appearing to be struggling at all. Her facial features set in stone, she used her priestess powers to enhance her stance until she was able to swing her blade and force Bishamon back a few feet.

Finally, she spoke. "My apologies. I didn't mean to crash your party, but this seemed like an interesting event. If you don't mind, I'll be taking back what you stole from me."

"Kagome~" Yato purred in happiness. He'd known she cared about him despite the verbal abuse she regularly dished out.

"I meant Kazuma," Kagome deadpanned. She refocused on the blonde Kami, ignoring the way Yato cried in the background. She narrowed her eyes, taking in the other woman's appearance and weakened state. "You're being consumed with so much blight, can you even see straight?"

Suzuha appeared at Kagome's side, his eyes taking in the destruction and the Dinosaur Fossil Phantom. "Lady Kagome, I don't believe now is the time for provocations. We need to get everyone to safety and we need to deal with the one responsible for all of this."

"Right. Suzuha, take care of your family. Lead them somewhere safe. I'll handle—"

"I'll take care of Veena," Kazuma cut in, laying a hand on Kagome's shoulder. When she turned to look up at him, he gave her a gentle smile of reassurance. "I appreciate you coming to rescue me. But don't worry. There are a lot of things I need to confess. Everything will be okay now."

Yato suddenly knocked his hand away from Kagome, stepping between them with a possessive gleam entering his unnaturally blue eyes. He scowled. "Back off, Kazuma. You may have been living with Kagome for a little while, but she's still my priestess. If anyone is going to give her comfort, it's going to be me. Got it?"

Kazuma stared at the Kami for a second before smirking quite devilishly. "You're not the one she shared a bed with though."

Letting out an inhuman screech of outrage, Yato threateningly pointed one of his swords at the other male. "What did you say?" he exclaimed, jealousy pumping hotly through his veins. "Yukine, get ready. We're going to skewer this guy!"

Meanwhile, Kagome slapped a hand to her face, cheeks heated with embarrassment. "That's the last time I forget about Kazuma being in his earring form…"

"Come on, guys," Suzuha shouted at Yato and Kazuma. "We have more important things to worry about!"

A Few Days Later

After the battle with the Dinosaur Fossil Phantom and Kuguha being revoked from Bishamon, thus becoming a Nora, Kazuma had made the decision to stay by Bishamon's side until she was healthy again. Kagome had understood what the Shinki had wanted to do, so had left with Suzuha, Yato, and Yukine back to the shrine.

Currently, the raven haired beauty was relaxing under the Goshinboku with Yato contentedly laying his head in her lap. She softly hummed as she brushed her fingers through his surprisingly silky hair, absorbing the peaceful atmosphere. Despite the obvious victory they were just coming off of, she couldn't help but feel that things weren't completely over.

"You should be focusing on me and nothing else," Yato said, catching her attention.

A single brow rose. "Considering the position we're in, I should be allowed to think of other things."

"I would prefer we were in a different position," he replied, smirking perversely.

She rolled her eyes. "I swear that's all you think about," she grumbled.

"Rude," he pouted. "I happen to think about lots of other stuff."

"Like how to get patrons – paying patrons."

"Not just that either!"

Kagome crossed her arms under her breasts, giving him a challenging look. "Oh yeah? What else you do you think about then?"

With the reflexes of a cat, Yato was suddenly on all fours, hovering over the raven haired beauty and invading her personal space. Their noses were nearly touching, yet all she could see was his serious expression. In all of the time she'd known him, she had never seen that look on his face before. It nearly took her breath away.

"You," he said, "I think about you all the time, Kagome, and how I'm going to treat you the best when you become my priestess. I'm just waiting for you to give the word."

Before he could close the distance between them, Kagome placed a hand over his mouth. Bangs shading her eyes, expression hidden, Yato blinked in confusion at her actions.

When she spoke, her voice was soft with a steely conviction that instantly caught his attention. "I refuse to tie myself to a Kami that brings nothing but death. You understand what I'm saying, don't you, Yato? I won't serve a God of Calamity…"

His expression softened. Grabbing the hand that covered his mouth, he laced their fingers together. He gave her a gentle smile. "I understand, Kagome. I'll do better. I'll be a better Kami, especially for you."

Kagome bowed her head. "Thank you," she whispered, but he still heard her words. "Thank you… Yaboku."

"Anything for you."

After being a part of Aiha's ablution, Kazuma knew it was time to face Bishamon. He'd had a lot of time to reflect on things and come to certain decisions about his life. First and foremost, he had failed at his duty. He wasn't fit to be Bishamon's Blessed Vessel. Perhaps he was being too harsh on himself but, if he had been doing his job correctly, none of what occurred would've happened. Kuguha's devious plans would not have gone as far as it had.

And yet he couldn't help but feel thankful. If the events hadn't taken place the way it did, Kazuma wouldn't have found Suzuha. Most importantly, he wouldn't have formed the bond he currently had with Kagome.

At the thought of the raven haired beauty, he couldn't stop the soft smile that curved his lips upward.

"By your expression alone, it would appear as though you have already made your decision," Bishamon's voice stated, snapping the Shinki from his thoughts.

He bowed respectfully to the blonde Kami who currently rested in one of the infirmary's beds. "Lady Bishamon," he greeted politely before standing straight once more.

Bishamon held up a hand, halting any words that would've escaped his mouth. "You don't need to explain anything," she said. A small, sad smile of understanding appeared on her beautiful face. "I know what you're going to say, Kazuma. We have been together for a very long time, haven't we? No matter what I say, you won't change your mind."

"I failed you," he said, emerald eyes set. "I don't deserve to be by your side. You exiled me, but I am asking you to please revoke me from you completely, Lady Bishamon."

She was quiet for a moment then spoke again. "Humans make mistakes. However, their ability to forgive has always fascinated me. Are you sure that is what you truly want?"

"Yes."

Her gaze turned down to her lap, where her hands tightly gripped the bed sheet. "Not even if I asked you to be my guiding voice once again?" she quietly inquired.

"As you said, Lady Bishamon, I have already made my decision." And he wouldn't regret it for a single moment. His life – his very existence – was centered on a raven haired priestess now. "I wish to remain by Lady Kagome's side. I wish to be her guiding voice from now on."

Bishamon crossed her arms under her breasts, a soft scowl on her face. "I suppose that would be for the best," she admitted. "After all, that bastard Yato has been bothering her for a while. I wouldn't like it if she decided to choose him to serve." Although her hatred for the other Kami had lessened since discovering the reason behind his attack so many centuries ago, there would always be a residue of resentment.

Kazuma chuckled. "Lady Kagome is anything but foolish. I doubt she would choose such a frivolous Kami to follow and serve."

She nodded once in a decisive manner. "Good." With that matter settled, her expression dropped to resignation. "I'll revoke you so that you can return to her side quickly. I bet that nuisance is with her right now. You'll have your work cut out for you keeping him away."

"At the very least it won't be boring."

Higurashi Shrine

Kazuma easily spotted Kagome standing under the shade of the Goshinboku. A soft smile appeared on his facial features as he watched the raven haired beauty soak in the sunlight and bask in the gentle breeze. To put it simply, she was beautiful.

As if sensing his presence, she turned and gifted him with a beaming smile. "Welcome home, Kazuma," she greeted.

"I'm home," he returned, warmth seeping into his chest at the notion. He had always thought his place was by Bishamon's side, but this moment proved differently. His place was right there, standing with Kagome and smiling at each other. His home was wherever she was.

Kagome cocked her head to the side curiously. "How is Bishamon?" she asked.

"She's doing a lot better. She's almost completely recovered," he answered.

"That's good." She gave him a contemplative look. "And how are you doing?"

He knew what she was really asking. Emerald eyes softened with adoration. "I asked Lady Bishamon to completely revoke me. I'm… a Nora now."

Humming thoughtfully, the raven haired beauty said, "I don't think that's true. Unless you plan on becoming another Kami's Shinki, I don't plan on renaming you. And if I don't give you another name then that means you don't become a Nora or whatever, right?"

"Well, I don't plan on serving another Kami, so I believe your logic is reasonable."

She smiled. "I'm glad you decided to stay, Kazuma."

"I'm glad I had the freedom to decide where to belong," he replied. "I can't think of anywhere else I would rather be."

"I guess I should warn you then," she started, lightly laughing. "Yato is—"

"What the hell are you doing here, Kazuma?" Yato's loud voice exclaimed. "I thought you went back to serving that raging psycho Bishamon?"

Kazuma casually fixed his thick-rimmed glasses, eyes sharpening as they landed on the tracksuit-wearing Kami. Yato may have been his benefactor, but Kazuma planned on protecting Kagome with his very life if needed. There was no way he was allowing his precious priestess to be mixed up with Yato and his crazy shenanigans.

"Haven't you heard, Yato?" he mocked. "I've been completely revoked. I am now in service of Lady Kagome as her Blessed Vessel."

Yato scoffed. "She doesn't need you, especially when she already has me and the kid. We can handle anything that may happen. Besides, Yukine is a Blessed Vessel now too. There's no room for two of you guys."

"That may be so," Kazuma said, "but I'm exclusively Lady Kagome's. Unlike you, I will be by her side twenty-four-seven."

Chest puffed up in outrage, the blue-eyed male exclaimed, "She's my priestess! No two beings could possibly get closer than that. She'll be spending all of her time by my side!"

"I didn't agree to be your anything," said raven haired beauty deadpanned.

At her words, Yato instantly turned to stone with waterfall tears cascading down his cheeks. "How could you say that?" he cried. "What about our moment under the Goshinboku just a couple of hours ago? You were practically crawling into my lap, saying you would be my priestess."

Kagome huffed, placing her hands on her hips. "Who was 'practically crawling' into whose lap? It was more like sexual harassment," she snapped. "And I didn't say anything about becoming your priestess. I only said that I wouldn't serve a God of Calamity."

Kazuma crossed his arms over his chest, a sense of superiority entering his aura. "See, Yato? My Lady Kagome is not foolish enough to tie herself down to a Kami that doesn't even have paying patrons, let alone a shrine. You should just accept that and stop bothering her. I am more than capable of taking care of all of her needs."

Meanwhile, as the three continued to bicker, Suzuha and Yukine watched from a safe distance. They were smart enough to stay out of the forming love triangle taking place in front of them.

Yukine couldn't help but sigh in embarrassment at Yato's wild gestures and loud exclamations. He rubbed a hand over his face tiredly. "How do things like this always happen?" he mournfully questioned out loud.

Suzuha laughed in response. "Well, at least it looks like they're having fun," he said.

Yukine supposed he had to agree. He never saw Yato act this lively unless he was in Kagome's presence. He shrugged. He would never fully understand 'adult time,' and he didn't want to if it was anything like this.
