Sinbad followed his nose, tracking the delicious scent that teased the air and his nostrils. He had (once again) abandoned his work in order to discover what had caught his stomach's attention.
His feet led him unsurprisingly to the kitchen, though he was shocked to find the kitchen staff missing. However, one specific feminine figure stood at the stove. She moved around with familiarity, going from one work station to the next. The way she hummed and smiled in contentment made Sinbad's own lips curve and heart soften.
So, she was excellent with kids and knew how to cook? Clearly the raven haired beauty was asking to be Queen of Sindria, he thought, half serious. He couldn't help but be amused at his own inner musings. If he truly wished for a future with her, he would have to up his game and convince her to stay on his island.
On silent feet, he approached Kagome. "What's that you're making?" he questioned. He grinned when she jumped in surprise, whirling around to face him with a startled expression. He especially liked the way her cheeks colored with a blush. "It smells really good."
"Sinbad, you scared me," she said, laying a hand over her rapidly beating heart to add emphasis.
"My deepest apologies." He crossed his arms over his chest as he leaned forward to take a closer look at the food she was making. "This seems interesting. I've never seen a dish like this before – and I've traveled to many places, as you know."
"This is called Takoyaki," she said, smiling. "I've eaten this many times back in my home. I was telling Aladdin and the others about it, and they really wanted to try it."
Sinbad smiled charmingly. "Would it be okay if I had some, too?"
"Of course! I'm making enough for everyone."
She turned to start prepping the next batch of Takoyaki, and Sinbad watched curiously. "How do you make this… Takoyaki?" he asked, testing the name of the food on his tongue.
Kagome hummed happily. "You're so lucky to have such an amazing source of seafood. It's normally made with pieces of octopus, some tempura scraps, pickled ginger, and green onion."
Sinbad replied, "You can have as much seafood as you desire, Kagome." He gave her another charming smile.
"I'll have to take you up on that offer," she chuckled. "Hey! The first batch is done. Will you taste it for me?" Her amethyst orbs shined with hope as she gazed at the King of Sindria.
How could he deny her? "I would be honored."
Kagome further surprised him when she used a toothpick to poke one ball of Takoyaki, blew on it to cool it, and presented it to the purple haired male. Her gaze was expectant, waiting for him to eat the food offering.
Feeling his cheeks heat with an unfamiliar blush at her rather intimate gesture, Sinbad leaned down enough to take the morsel into his mouth. His golden gaze stayed connected with amethyst as he slowly chewed and savored the Takoyaki.
"Well?" she questioned, eager to hear what he thought. "What do you think?"
Sinbad smiled. "Delicious," he answered. "Why don't you try one as well?" Using the same actions she had used on him, he presented the raven haired beauty with her own bite of Takoyaki with an easygoing grin.
The blush that exploded on her cheeks was adorable, he thought. But she still leaned close enough to take the morsel into her mouth. She slowly chewed, obviously savoring the flavor and being her own worst critic.
"What do you think?" he asked, repeating her words back to her.
Kagome beamed. "Delicious," she answered.
"I'm glad we agree," Sinbad chuckled. Without realizing it, he invaded her personal space until their noses were nearly brushing against each other. He grinned arrogantly as the blush renewed itself on her cheeks. "You know, Kagome, I could feed you all sorts of things from now on. Every day, if you wish. For the rest of our lives."
His suggestive words left the raven haired beauty speechless. What could she possibly say to that? "Sinbad…?"
The King of Sindria winked as he backed away to leave the kitchen. "Think about it, okay? I'll wait for your response," he said. He threw her a wicked smile full of sinful promises. "But don't make me wait too long. I can be impatient."
Once alone, all Kagome could mutter was: "What just happened?" All she had wanted to do was make Takoyaki.
And yet… Had I just been proposed to?
