Spencer tapped his fingers against the strap of his bag, a nervous tick, as his gaze focused solely on the café's bakery goods and sandwiches. As always, the line was long with patrons eager for a cup of caffeine and sugar with the odd order of a giant cookie or large muffin.
The brilliant FBI agent just hoped he could order one of the delicious-looking blueberry confections in the display case. He needed it for a very specific person with raven colored hair, amethyst eyes, and beautiful smile.
He nearly cringed when someone ordered two blueberry muffins, the server grabbing them with a pair of tongs and neatly placing them within a paper package. If his calculations were correct – and when has his brain ever let him down? – there was only one muffin remaining. Logically, he knew there should be more in the back, but what if there wasn't? It would be just his luck that the café ran out of the one thing he wanted.
Now more than ever Spencer was determined to reach the front of the line. It was detrimental he receive that baked good, especially if he wanted to further his relationship with Kagome.
Spencer breathed a sigh of relief when his turn came up, his smile quick and his words even quicker. "Hi. Can I get a blueberry muffin, please?"
"Of course," the server chirped. On fast feet, she moved to fulfill his order without delay, something Spencer could appreciate. "Would you like anything else, sir?"
"No. But thank you."
"No problem! Your total is two-dollars and five-cents."
He gave a five dollar bill. With a polite, "Keep the change," he swiftly walked out with his purchase safely tucked within his hands, and a large smile on his boyish face.

Nervously fidgeting with his hair and clothes, Spencer cleared his throat discreetly. Considering how often he visited Kagome's office, he thought this moment would become easier, but it didn't. If anything, his nerves always seemed to short-circuit where she was involved.
Taking a deep, steadying breath, Spencer knocked.
"Come in," Kagome called out from inside.
He braced himself, though he knew it was foolish. Why was he so nervous? Sure, Kagome was the only woman who made his heart flutter, his stomach drop, and his palms sweat. But that was normal. She was a very lovely young woman with the kindest heart. She lit up any room she walked into. She was perfection personified.
Yeah, definitely no reason to be nervous, he thought with a mental scoff.
Before he decided to turn and run away, Spencer opened the door and walked into Kagome's office, softly closing the door behind him. His eyes automatically took in his surroundings, from her organized desk, to the large bookshelves and file cabinets, and finally to the sterile exam table set up and ready for her next patient.
When his gaze landed on the raven haired beauty, she smiled from behind her desk. Her glasses were perched on her nose, giving her the appearance of sophisticated elegance. Spencer swallowed thickly. She was still as beautiful and mesmerizing as always. He didn't think his perception would ever change, no matter how many times he gazed upon her.
"Hey, Spencer," she greeted warmly.
The smile he gave her was boyishly charming. "Hi, Kagome. Uh, I mean, good morning."
"What brings you by? Are you getting ready for another case?"
"No, actually," he answered. "I bought this." He held out the package containing the baked good. "For you," he quickly added, his tone tinged with awkwardness. "I bought this for you."
Kagome smiled, pleasantly surprised by his sweet gesture. She accepted the offering. "You didn't have to do that, Spencer," she said.
"I know," he began, his words starting to rush out, "but I wanted to. You've been working so hard, and I was worried you weren't getting enough sleep and not eating properly. Being the personal medic for the BAU isn't easy – the job can get quite dangerous. Besides, I know you like blueberry muffins – and the café near here isn't half bad, from what I've been told, anyway."
Before he could start explaining the nutritious value of blueberries, the raven haired beauty opened the package and smiled at the contents. "Thank you. This was so sweet of you," she said. Pulling the muffin out, she neatly folded the package and placed the muffin on it. "Would you like to share it, Spencer?"
He instantly shook his head, waving his hands back and forth to add emphasis. "No. No, I couldn't. I got that specifically for you, Kagome."
She softly laughed, the sound like wind chimes. "Please. It's too big for me."
"Are-Are you sure that's okay?"
"Absolutely," she answered. Gesturing to the seat across from her, she said, "Have a seat. We'll each have half."
Spencer removed his messenger bag and sat down in the designated chair. He watched as Kagome sliced the muffin for two and handed him his share. "Thank you," he politely said.
For several minutes, the two FBI agents ate in silence. Until Kagome decided to ask a question.
"So, what are you planning to get for our next breakfast date?"
Spencer choked, coughing harshly into a fist as he tried to desperately clear his airway. Did she just ask what he thought she did? Next breakfast date? For once in his life, his mind went blank and he couldn't think of anything, let alone a way to respond.
Innocently, Kagome cocked her head to the side as she smiled at the brilliant young man. "Or maybe I should bring breakfast next time?" she questioned with a thoughtful expression.
