It had been arranged years ago that Takashi Morinozuka and Kagome Higurashi would be married shortly after they both graduated high school. It was common practice among the rich and elite, especially when the two in question came from such prominent families with long-standing relations, whether it was business or personal.

Mori hadn't minded. He had known Kagome since they were children. He was happy that his eventual marriage would be a good one, unlike those that would end up being loveless and bitter. Whenever he thought about the raven-haired beauty, he couldn't help the warmth that blossomed within his chest, nor the tiny smile that curved his mouth.

Kagome had always been a bright, cheerful, and kind person. She had a certain charm about her that made her friendly with everyone. She was also humble; she never flaunted that she came from a rich household, and she never looked down upon anyone. In fact, she'd insisted on attending a public high school to stay with her middle school friends, declining to attend Ouran Academy with Mori.

She was also amazingly athletic. In middle school, she'd done a lot of track-and-field as well as archery. Upon entering high school, she'd been skilled and experienced enough that she'd been the Vice Caption of the archery team. By her second year, she'd been promoted as Captain.

Yes, Mori thought, his eventual marriage to Kagome would be a good one. He was confident that they would be happy and content with each other.

However, he also knew it wouldn't be smooth sailing for them – as a couple – simply because of all of Kagome's positive traits.

He mentally sighed.

Incident #1: Archery Tournament

Due to a kendo match, Mori had been in the area of Kagome's archery tournament. Since his matches had finished early, he'd decided to surprise her and hopefully take her out to lunch. They attended different schools and they both had busy schedules, so anytime they could spend together was usually few and far between.

Approaching the tournament, he quickly spotted where Kagome and her teammates were assigned. From the time, he concluded that they were making their last shots before the tournament officially ended and a school was crowned the victor.

When Kagome stepped up, bow in hand, and amethyst eyes focused on the target, Mori hummed in appreciation. He rarely got to see her in action, but he knew she was amazing.

Tucking his hands within the pockets of his hoodie, he silently watched as the raven-haired beauty took her stance, drawing the bow's string back with smooth efficiency. In the next second, she released her arrow with a twang! and watched confidently as she hit her target dead-center.

As the crowd cheered and her teammates swarmed her, Mori let a small, proud smirk cross his handsome features. While he hadn't doubted her ability, it still left him awestruck. The surge of pride he felt for Kagome was also expected.

Big or small, he would always be proud of her achievements.

Mori started making his way closer to where Kagome stood, hands still tucked in his pockets. Although he didn't normally dress so casually, especially when Tamaki and the others planned something elaborate outside of school, he knew Kagome preferred going to cafés and other 'commoner' places. The hoodie he wore, paired with comfortable jeans and running shoes, would fit in anywhere they went.

A frown touched his features as he got closer, overhearing the current conversation Kagome was having with her male teammates.

"Captain Higurashi, you were so amazing," one male enthused.

Kagome lightly chuckled, waving off the compliment. "Thank you, but that wasn't really anything the rest of you couldn't handle."

A second male jumped in. "You should join us for a victory celebration. We're thinking of going to a nearby restaurant."

"I'm sorry, but I already made plans with my boyfriend." Technically, she and Takashi were engaged, but they had also agreed that he would properly and officially propose a year after they graduated from high school. And if she liked making him blush whenever she called him 'her boyfriend,' that was between them.

"But it's not often we can get together like this," a third male pointed out. "Can't you meet up with him later? Or maybe reschedule to another day?"

Before Kagome could respond, Mori stepped up behind her, practically overshadowing her petite figure. He stared down at the three young men, his grey eyes sharp and lethal. He didn't think Kagome would agree either way, but he didn't appreciate how pushy they were being with her.

"On second thought," the third male quickly retracted, sweat pouring from his face, "never mind, Captain Higurashi."

The other two backed away just as quickly, their postures becoming submissive. "Yeah, like he said," the second male reiterated. "You shouldn't reschedule on your boyfriend – that would be rude. We totally understand you already having plans with him."

"We would never try to get between you and him. We'll just see you tomorrow at practice," the first male ended. Then, the three quickly took their leave, obviously scared out of their minds.

Confused, Kagome blinked and tilted her head to the side. "What's gotten into them?"

His facial features once more indifferent and eyes soft, Mori gently placed a hand onto her head. His calloused fingers rubbed over the silky strands, enjoying the sensation.

"Takashi," she brightly greeted, turning to see the taller male. "What are you doing here? Did your matches end early?"

He enjoyed the fact that she'd instantly known it was him.

"Hn."

"Let me change into my regular clothes, then we can leave. I want to hear everything about your matches."

Mori nodded.

Incident #2: Tamaki Suoh

Whenever Kagome visited Ouran Academy, Mori had made it crystal-clear to Kyouya that he wouldn't be taking any clients for the entire afternoon. He hadn't cared if that screwed up their numbers, sales, or whatever the Shadow King kept track of. And if a customer had scheduled time with him in advance, it was promptly cancelled without a hint of remorse or guilt. Mori would never allow anything to jeopardize his time with Kagome, nor would he ever let her feel as though she wasn't his number one priority. Because she was. Even Mitsukuni understood and fully supported Mori.

However, he thought, that didn't seem to stop a certain overenthusiastic blonde from doing what he did best – flirt with any female that walked through the door of their club room.

Mori frowned as he watched the scene unfold.

As soon as Kagome entered, Tamaki instantly appeared as if by magic. He gave a flashy bow, a single red rose in his hand that he handed to the raven-haired beauty. The smile he bestowed was flirty and princely.

"Lady Kagome," he smoothly greeted, "what a pleasant surprise! It's not often our humble Host Club is graced with your radiant presence. To what do we owe the honor?"

She bashfully accepted the rose, smiling at the outrageous blonde. "Hi, Suoh-san," she greeted back. "I came to visit Takashi. Is that okay? I know you guys are busy, but I didn't have any club activities today, so I decided to stop by."

"You are always welcome here, Milady," Tamaki replied, grinning charmingly. "And, please, I insist you call me by my first name. 'Suoh-san' is my father." He grasped her hands within his own, the gesture intimate, and he leaned in closer until their noses nearly brushed. "Can I touch your hand? I want to brag to the entire world that I was touched by an angel."

From the sidelines, the devilish twins snickered to themselves.

"He's a dead man," Hikaru said, laughing.

Kaoru added, "I wonder what Mori-senpai will do to punish that idiot king this time."

Kagome chuckled, clearly humoring the younger male and his antics. "But you're already touching my hands, Tamaki-san," she pointed out.

"I would be even more honored if you would grant me the privilege of having your undivided attention," Tamaki continued, clearly unaware of the growing danger.

Haruhi watched with a deadpan expression on her face. "He's such an idiot."

Kyouya sighed, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose. "At this rate, we may as well close the club for the rest of the day." While their profits would take a huge blow, past experience had proven that that would be the best course of action.

Tamaki dramatically wrapped an arm around Kagome's slim waist, pulling her close. "All you would have to do is request me, Milady, and I'd be all yours."

Mitsukuni buried his face into Usa-chan's soft body, knowing the outcome of the current situation. It was nice knowing you, Tama-chan, he thought.

Mori finally stepped closer, his features dark and grey eyes sharp. "Tamaki," he deeply intoned, the single word full of warning and doom.

Said blonde instantly froze, his entire body turning into stone. Oh no. He knew that tone…

Kagome blinked when she was abruptly released. She blinked again when Tamaki was suddenly cowering in the nearest corner, shivering and wailing in pure terror. She tilted her head to the side, asking, "What has gotten into him all of a sudden?"

The only response she received was Mori gently taking her hand and leading her towards the section of the club room he normally occupied. Their path crossed where Tamaki cowered, and Mori sent a subtle glare at the idiotic blonde.

The look promised a firm reprimand later.

Tamaki whimpered, curling in on himself. Mori-senpai was so scary, he mentally cried.

Incident #3: Business Party

Dressed in a gown made of silk, Kagome was a vision of pure loveliness. With her sweet smile and gentle nature, she easily attracted the attention of multiple men.

Mori frowned as he approached. He'd been pulled away from her side when his father had requested his presence, but he was no longer distracted.

"Kagome-chan, you should come by the marina one day," one young man said, smiling charmingly. "I have a yacht that I would love to take you out on. Watching the sunset from it will take your breath away."

Kagome politely waved off the offer. "Uhh…"

Another young man cut in. "Kagome-chan wouldn't be interested in seeing your little sailboat," he said. "She would much rather spend her time at my family's luxury resort. She would be able to sunbathe and relax at the pool. We also have a five-star spa available, where she can be pampered like the princess she is."

"That's really not necessary…" she tried again.

"Ha," a third young man scoffed. "A princess? I would treat Kagome-chan like a queen. Boats and resorts are nice and all, but she would rather go away on my family's private jet to Europe. We could vacation there all summer, if that's what she wanted."

Kagome released a sigh. "Why is all of this being decided for me?" she muttered, knowing her words would again be ignored.

At that moment, Mori made his presence known. From his advantageous height, he stared down his nose at the three young men flirting and making romantic plans with his fiancée, his expression dark and his grey eyes sharp. And if his frown had morphed into a threatening scowl, he wouldn't deny it.

The trio of young men instantly gulped, sweat pouring down their faces. They hastily backed away from the raven-haired beauty, knowing their lives were at stake if they remained close. It wasn't a secret that Takashi Morinozuka was skilled in kendo and with his close family ties with the Haninozuka clan, he was also more than efficient at martial arts.

If the Morinozuka heir wanted them to disappear, he would – and could – make it so.

"Ah, M-Morinozuka-san," one of the young men stuttered out. "A-Apologies! We-We didn't see you there. We were… uh, we were just…"

"–Leaving!" another broke in. "We were just leaving! Sorry to bother you-you and your lovely fiancée."

With that, the trio hastily took their exit, though Mori swore he heard them whimper, "So scary!"

Kagome blinked. "What got into them, I wonder?"

"Hn," he grunted. Placing an arm around her waist, Mori pulled her into his side comfortably, his facial features once more indifferent and eyes soft as he gazed at the raven-haired beauty. "We should get you something to eat, Kagome."

She hummed in agreement, the incident completely forgotten, cuddling into his warmth. "What did your father want? Is everything okay?" she asked.

"Yes," was his only answer. Then he led them to the buffet table, Kagome continuing to chatter and Mori contentedly listening as she jumped from one topic to another.

Kagome's Conclusion

Because it had been decided years ago that Takashi and Kagome would be married after they graduated from high school, the latter had concluded that she would make the best out of the situation. She had known Takashi since childhood, and she had been content with the decision to eventually wed. She knew that not all arranged marriages ended with a happily-ever-after, but she was determined to at least have a marriage based on mutual respect and understanding.

Kagome had known that she wouldn't have to worry. Takashi had always been extremely kind and gentle. She'd seen the way he treated his cousin and seeing his interactions with his friends at the Host Club had further sealed the deal. She especially appreciated the way he respected her and her decisions. He was her unwavering support in everything.

So, it always surprised her when someone brought up how scary Takashi was.

"Be honest with us, Kagome-chan," Eri said, narrowed eyes on the raven-haired beauty seated across from her. "That boyfriend – fiancé – whatever of yours… He's a bit scary, don't you think?"

Kagome blinked, truly surprised and taken aback. She glanced at Yuka and Ayumi to see if the other two agreed. When they nodded decisively, she blew out a deep breath.

"What makes you guys say that?" she wondered. Amusement started to sparkle within her amethyst orbs.

"He's just so…" Yuka trailed off, unsure which word to use.

Ayumi supplied, "Intimidating. And his stare is intense, too."

"On top of that," Eri added, "he doesn't say much. Add all of that together and he's actually super scary."

"I have a 'scary' boyfriend?" Kagome couldn't help chuckling.

"You don't think so?" the three asked at the same time.

"Nope. I actually think Takashi is very adorable. He's not scary at all."

Inwardly, Kagome couldn't wait to tease him with this new information. She was looking forward to what type of expression he would make. Scary? Ha! Takashi would never be scary.
