I do not own Stardew valley this is my love for it.
I don't have a plan who she ends up with. Just writing for fun as I learn.
I was happily out of my home for the first time in months, sitting in a packed noisy bar downtown in my city.
I came with my old pink haired friend Macy, we met in high school and her new boyfriend. I had a lot of fun when we ran into Nora, a dark skinned pretty long haired beauty that treats men like her personal bank and Cassie a blonde boy crazy women. They were fun to hang out with, funny and wild. Best to drink with.
A night with them is never boring.
We danced, drank and laughed for an hour when Macy went home with her boyfriend leaving me with them. They wondered to the bathroom about ten minute's ago and I sat alone at the bar sipping my fruity drink.
Nora tapped my shoulder I almost jumped as she leaned in from the noise around us. "Come." I downed my drink and happily followed her out of the bar. Cassie was leaning on a pretty green car with three older men. "We got a ride." She laughed and ran closer to them and the expensive car.
They looked okay and were pretty attractive men but I am not like them, I don't do one night stands and men make me nervous. I followed her quietly already feeling nervous.
"We are going to their place to continue the party." Cassie yelled as she slid into the back seat and two men got in the front.
"Look I am going home." I spoke to Nora who stood next to me needing to bail at the way they looked at us.
"Come." She grabbed my hand and dragged me to the car, I followed thinking I was overreacting and not wanting to start a fight.
Just go along with it I told myself, last time we wound up in an arcade it was fun.
"Slide over." She yelled to Cassie who did and Nora sat down when the third man took the last back seat. Peeking in the open door he stared at my chest while I was bent over and they pointed to his lap with giggles.
"I am just going home." I stepped back to call a cab.
"Fine." Cassie spoke rudely. "We are taking her home." She yelled to the driver. "Get in." She waved at me. I wanted to sit on them but they would not let me so I climbed onto the strange mans lap.
I was a little out of it and just wanted to go home, I hated my life as we drove off.
Why did I get in?
The girls whispered and giggled staring at us, looking at me like I was about to be with this guy. They are setting me up. I was uncomfortable as he shifted under me, my head bumping the ceiling and his hand rubbing my leg so hard it hurt. He does not know how to do that right. I needed to get out.
I noticed they were not even going towards my home at all, I looked for an escape.
"Hey." I spoke pissed off at everyone in the car but hiding it with a smile. "Stop at this store."
"Ya, more drinks." Cassie yelled.
"Let's get snacks." The man yelled below me vibrating on my back. "And some protection." All the men laughed as he sneezed my leg and it hurt. The car was loud and the man shifted into my back making me want to hit him in the face with my elbow.
It took everything to not jump out.
Panic in me I could not breath.
I bounced out and moved into the store so fast the second we stopped. The girls behind me giggling about the men. We paused looking at the alcohol section. "What do I want." Nora spoke. "Hey you guy's are paying." She yelled to the men who were no where near us.
"I don't like this. Let's go." I said trying to look out for them.
"Your stupid they are hot." Cassie spoke picking up some Vex.
"Where are we going?" I asked.
Nora was swaying to the music. "Somewhere fun, come on don't be a buzz kill." Cassie laughed. Why am I even with these girls. I am not only scared I'm pissed. I used that moment to sneak out the door and walk with speed down the block to the best burger place to go to on a night out.
I ordered a burger, onion rings and then ordered a cab and sat down to eat. I watched the dark road bustling with people feeling safe now.
After I got in the cab for home I noticed they never even texted me at where I went. I was having such a good night too.
I unlocked the door to our semi home I shared with my mom. One bedroom with a basement for me, two bathrooms. A decent place. The t.v was blaring the tv show Vikings my mom loves, she was passed out on the couch in her nurse clothing.
She dealt with old people in there homes. cleaning, bathing, getting medication.
I slid a blanket over her and headed down to my space, after a quick shower and p.j's I popped on a PC game and ate some chips feeling better. My night turned around after that as I owned real people in my favorite game.
I woke up to my mom shuffling in the closet of crap and pulling out a box, I sat up rubbing my eyes a little startled as she never comes down here.
"Sorry I need to find some mail." I nodded laying back down, she kind of makes a mess with holding onto everything, she just puts them in boxes and hides them. So many boxes you never know where what is, not the best system.
"I need." She made a noise. "Oh I wondered where this went." She tossed it on the floor to keep out. "Here it is." She stood up as I kicked my legs over my bed and stretched. She stared down for a second and squatted pulling out a large package and just stayed that way with a sadness across her face.
Her hand over her face and closed it looking like she might cry. "What?"
"It is the deed and note from my dad." The man that died a little while ago? I never met him. "Deed to his farm, I was so pissed when I got this a few years ago, so angry he was pushing it on me again." She stood up. "I try not to think about it as it sucks he is gone."
"Oh ya, he lived on a farm? What happened to it?" I walked over to her.
"It is there, waiting for me." She sighed, I pulled them from her hands curious. As I looked at the note she shoved the deed into my hands with a light in her eye. "I told myself I would never go back to that place." She smiled at me. "It is yours."
"Ha what would I do on a farm." I looked at the note again trying to read it but she was distracting me.
"Ya to see you dig in dirt would be comical." She laughed back. "Without your computer you would die."
"Ya I would." I scanned the same line again.
"Very, very, old school out there." She laughed and headed towards the stairs. "He did not have a single electronic." I looked at the page with guilt to not even know him.
I felt like an asshole at his sweet letter that he even mentioned my name.
"It was a two way street." She spoke to me and I looked up at her. "He could have come here too." She was then halfway up the stairs and came down excited. "What if you sold it and got real money for you to go back to school, get a real job."
I nodded. "Actually, that sounds nice." I only went for one year because I ran out of money, I will not get a loan, they suck, my mom is in so much debt. It is a horror story to me. I slid it on my desk and went to make coffee.
"Ya I want pink and red thongs." I nodded looking at all the undies on the bottom row at my job for this 60 year old women. "Okay try them on." I was startled as I was squatting looking and her foot that was now in my face.
"Um, sorry?" I was shocked, does she want me to put a thong on her?
"Sorry." She mocked. "Just put them on!"
"Mam." I stood up annoyed. I already dealt with three Karen's today and now this. "That is not my job."
"Yes it is. Put. them. on."
"No." I put the three panties in her hand. "No." I shook my head stepping back done, I waved at her as I walked away.
"Hey get back here." Nope. I started to jog before her slow ass see's where I went. I shook my head to hide wondering towards the shoes, high shelves.
I walked onto a large women with the famous haircut. No not again. I spun trying to find another place to hide. "Excuse me." No! I screamed in my head.
"Yes." I smiled at her spinning around I would not be surprised if I looked half crazy.
"Can you help me get this on." I looked at some pretty stiletto's she was holding, then I looked at her foot. No sock, very long yellow nails, so dirty. I am done. I am done.
I hate even clean feet so much I cringe and this, oh this.
I walked away. I am done for today.
I walked to see the first lady pointing at me yelling to my manager, when the one behind me now started yelling for a manager for making her feel ugly. My manger looked at me disappointed and I knew it right there.
I took off my smock and placed it on the desk where the undie lady smugly looked at me like she won. "Am I fired?" He nodded sadly. I just nodded back went behind the desk grabbed my backpack and left.
Ah it felt like I just got wings and flew away from this place. I danced a little out the store spinning and smiling at the undie lady who then looked at me confused and defeated.
"Bye Frank."
"See you." He smiled at me, he was cool.
I leaned on the kitchen counter eating a bowl of ice-cream while dumping water into one of her many green plants, I sometimes take care of them and the herbs. She loves plants.
"What are you going to do now?" My mom was a little pissed. "I can hold the bills for a little while alone but you need a plan." I nodded as she ranted at me. "Where are you going, what are you doing. That job was easy." She paced. "You quit everything, school, boxing, that coffee shop, that time at the parking garage." She looked at me angry. "You are 23 come on."
I wanted to say this time I was fired but I feel that makes it worse.
She kept going when she sighed rubbed her head. "I have to go." She grabbed her bag. "Figure it out." I ignored the bad feeling inside me at being yelled at, the shame. I feel like a child right now.
I sat down at my computer and started up a game feeling lazy but I don't care, give myself a couple days of freedom. I spotted the deed and note and pulled it to me as the music from the game came on.
I looked at the deed and closed my computer game googling Pelican town. There was nothing there. A small town a few hours away so small they don't even have a map of the area. No real information, no news. It was somewhere along the ocean, that was interesting.
I have never seen the ocean.
The train seat was comfortable and squishy but the vibrating of the wheel was a tad bit annoying
It was me, a couple lone men and a group of women in this railcar. I was never on a train before, I have barely left the city before so this was exciting to me even if it was a long ride.
My mother told me this was a tiny hick town of gossip and small minded people and I should just do this from a far but I had no job. Why not go. I had one large suitcase and a large tote purse knowing I will only be there for about a week. Get a look at it, put it up for sale and have a vacation.
I pulled out a chocolate bar and watched the tree's fly by loving the forest being so different then the lifeless city. I even saw a bear.
"Okay he will be at the hotel on fifth." My ears and eye's landed on the group of women without intention.
"We are gong to destroy him." Two women spoke to the third who looked so perfect and yet so broken at the same time. I started listening in and they are going to surprise her husband that was on a 'work trip' I smiled looking them over in there late thirties.
I just put down my phone and listened to them.
I almost wanted to miss my stop just to follow them and their hate to see what happens to the cheating husband. I wanted to ask for a phone number and make them call me, the don't even know how invested I am now.
"Pelican town next stop." Buzzed through with static.
Just to make sure I pulled out the note making sure that was my stop when the world around me got dark. I peeked out the window as we passed through a deep cave. The light came back and the train slowed down.
I stepped out alone onto an old broken wooden station. All stone surrounded me nothing but patchy and tall grass around. I had to wait for the train to move to even go anywhere else.
I lit a smoke finally and leaned on the thin wood wall in wait. After a minute it slowly started to move as I watched all the cars leave me behind. I stared at the small area, more tree's and patchy tall grass. I dropped my hand to my side worried like I stepped into an end of the world movie.
There was a beat down, boarded up and abandoned building that the earth was taking back. Hanging above it was a loose and waving sign that said pool on it with faded paint. The train has left and I don't know when another comes so I stepped forward and moved to find my new cabin.
I came through a small path and found myself standing in a forest with drive able but but thin dirt roads in three directions. There was a man made one through some bushes and into the tight forest.
There was a broken sign and I was lost on what direction to go. Does this town even exist?
The wind blew and I pulled my sweater tighter and decided to go straight. I walked down a curved path staring into the thick forest, so many tree's it was dark and creepy and I felt I walked for way to long. I got excited when I heard a noise and I sped up.
I walked a little farther and I stood at a cliff where I could stand on the roof someone's home. It was a large home with a red roof, the path tightened and I moved down it quick the noise getting louder as the road got steep.
The home was snuggled into the ground like a hobbit hole and I stood behind some dark covered man fixing a motorcycle. He was covered in black from head to toe, a thick sweater with his arms pulled up but I was glad to see a person that could help me.
"Spring is here, fixing it up to ride?" He jumped bumping his head on his handlebars looking at me startled. "Oh sorry." I laughed stepping forward.
His pretty face stared at me shocked as he looked me over confused and held his head. He was more my age with a five o'clock shadow. His hair hung a little over his right eye and the only ear I could see had three different piercing's.
Damn, I do love a man in black.
He just stayed quiet looking like I was a ghost. "So I am looking for meadow grove farm?"
He stood up wiping a hand on a rag. "Go back the way you came and head west you wont miss it." His voice was deep and husky but he sounded bored. First local and he is hot.
"Thank you." I smiled and turned around. I peeked back to him and he was looking at his bike and I checked him out once more, no harm.
Nice.
I walked off biting my lip in excitement.
I was so glad to stroll with a direction but the longer I walked the more it faded, my bag hurting my shoulder, I tried to distract myself but there no sound but bugs and birds. However the smell was great, flowers, pine tree's and clear air. No pee, cars or people and I kind of liked that.
The dirt road was a little bigger then one car but not a soul passed me.
The road curved and started into another hill. I wondered if it was snuggled into a mountain.
I wish I had a car, all I had at home was my moms SUV. My crap broke down five months ago, I was saving for a new pretty model so I got some money on me. My last job was in walking distance so I did not need one right now.
I came to another two paths, one looked nice and welcoming and the other was a blocked off road covered in some tall grass covering deep indented tire tracks. Above was a wooden sigh with the name on it.
I am here.
I moved the half open gate leaving it alone and headed down thanking the world I had pant's on as I stepped over a fallen branch as the thick small plants hit my shoes. It was a bit of a walk when I came to an open dirt area.
To the right was a large Silo surrounded by more dirt, a barn behind it and a broken down building next to it. To the left was a decent sized and cute rustic and old cabin.
The open dirt area was filled with garbage a few open canned food and so many beer can's. I walked to the nice sized porch and tiny steps as I looked around at the mess but behind that was an amazing forest on uneven ground.
A tiny pond the size of a plastic pool with so much floating trash making me frown but a little clean and it would be amazing out here. I dropped my stuff and moved to sit on the steps. It cracked and I fell into it a little making me yelp and stand back up.
I put my foot on it and pressed but it was bad with water damage. I rubbed my hair and sighed before I hopped over them onto the thankfully sturdy porch and moved to open the door.
It was slightly open worrying me.
I creaked it open and the smell hit me first as I stared into darkness. It smelled like old man, beer and something else. I let the door fly open and I reached for a light feeling up the wall like a bad date.
They took a second but the lights came on and that was exciting.
The first thing I saw was the amazing and large brick fireplace surrounded by wooden floors and a wooden ceiling but the painted walls had a bad color and chipped paint. There was two door's on either side of the fireplace.
From here I could see one was a pantry with a washing machine and the other was dark red bathroom. To the right was an archway with a bed in view and a small kitchen to the left. In the corner was a broken kitchen table.
The only other thing in the place was a small desk with papers and books scattered on the floor with more garbage and more beer cans.
This needs work but some cleaning, a good scented candle and some paint this place could be so cute.
I kicked some beer away and flopped on the floor for a rest and a real look around. It was a mess and where is like a couch or something? Did he really live like this?
My heart dropped at this.
Was he like a massive alcoholic?
She did tell me that he did not have any electronics but he did have a microwave. I stood up and looked through the kitchen. The microwave worked but needed a clean. The fridge was empty but smelled and needed a clean.
The coffee maker was covered in mold so that is not saveable and damn I need my coffee.
Leaning on the counter I never expected this.
First I pulled the bad smelling blankets and tossed them into the washing machine. I dreaded sleeping in them. There was only washing powder. I never use this kind so I put some and then more and maybe to much before I stared at all the dials and buttons lost for a good few minutes.
When I heard the water start to fill I smiled and felt proud to do something. "Got it" I patted it like it was a friend.
I opened the door and all the windows and dragged my shit into the empty bedroom. Did someone come and like steal his shit or something. With nothing to do I just started to clean, lucky I found some garbage bags.
Cleaning up the books and papers off the floor some looked burnt in the corners and looking into the fire there was left over book half burned in it. I came across a small old map of Pelican town.
There was a scratched off area across some river, another in the other corner, I could not tell how big this farm was or where things were but I did get the main town was east from here, I think.
I stepped outside and lit a smoke, there is another path in a different direction, I think east. Maybe that is to town. I am starving. It was again long grass covering deep tire tracks with Nat's flying around.
I slid my small wallet in my bra, with my hands in my pockets I started to walk to town hoping it was not the worst walk. The air started to get colder and it felt like rain. I came across a small area with a broken down bus, again the land taking it back.
What is going on?
At least this time it had a working wooden sigh pointing me to the town.
It was a long walk lost in my head when my feet hit cobblestone. I looked around as I walked. A large courtyard was beautiful surrounded by black little lights. Buildings surrounded the area from a clinic to a Saloon looking like the buildings were built a hundred years ago.
A saloon huh?
There was an area that looked like it once held a building, now it was just long grass. Man this place needs a parks and rec or something. I saw a young couple walking and laughing away from a general store. A few kids were running south and turned down a road with homes.
Finally some life in this area.
I looked around but I did not see a place to eat. I don't know if that dirty stove works, I slowed down looking around lost.
"Who are you?" A deep old voice spoke, I spun around and looked south before he made an amused noise and turned completely around to find some old man leaning on the clinic wall next to the door.
How did I not see him? I noticed his brown pants and suspenders blended into the wall. He was missing a couple teeth and an old man hat. Kind of what I pictured in my head when I thought of the grandpa I never met.
"Um hi." I smiled.
"I am the mayor, Lewis, welcome to our tiny town don't see many visitors out here." I felt nervous like I was doing something wrong and possibly unwelcome.
"I am just here to take a look at my grandpas farm, just clean it up and put it up for sale."
He looked shocked and looked me over. "Adalyn?" Confusing me at him knowing my name. "I have not seen you since you came to my knee." He walked closer. "Look at you, how old are you now?"
He knows me?
"Twenty three." He nodded.
"Time goes fast." He looked behind me and anger crossed his face. Peeking back I saw some larger man in a fancy suit walking by. They both looked at each other with this look. Distain and worry.
Okay?
That was anger and beef that I don't care about.
"Do me a favor if that is why your here. Do not sell to him, is trying to take over everything in this town and change it. Lose our charm." He then looked at me and his face softened. "Please."
It was quiet for a moment and he looked so sad. But this place is cute, needs work but I get it. I just nodded, I felt drawn to this man and it felt right to agree.
"So where can I eat?" I asked with a smile and looked around again.
"The bar has good food, the store has what you need." He patted my shoulder and walked away towards the store. I looked to the large building and smiled moving quickly.
I pulled the heavy door and then moved to push it but it was whipped open from the inside. I fell into the man in front of me. He blocked me and half pushed me out of the way ignoring me completely. "Sorry." I said as he stepped down the steep couple of stairs.
I looked back as he walked away without a word or a look, no need to say sorry blue jacket man.
The bar was empty, I was used to packed places and it was just some jukebox music and an older women at the bar. I peeked as I walked in there was some blonde guy with crazy hair playing an old school arcade machine near a nice pretty pool table.
Cozy.
I grabbed the first seat at the end of the bar. An older man looked at me with interest as I asked for a menu. He gave me a smile and handed me one, he walked off but seemed to keep his eye on me.
There was barely anything on this menu.
Pizza, special salad, hot dogs, spaghetti, eggs and bacon, chicken strips. No burger sadly, I could use one. That was what I was craving.
"Gus, two beers." A pretty male voice spoke and slammed his hand next to me and I looked up at the blonde man as he hovered kind of to close but was looking down on me with the same interest as the bar man.
He then smiled at me, a smile brighter then his hair. I love a good smile, This place kind of has eye candy huh? He was scanning my face and hair. "Nice." He spoke confusing me.
What is nice?
The man I now know as Gus slid two beers down the bar like you see in movies and this blonde guy caught them with ease. He leaned closer to me startling me and looked right at Gus so I followed his eye's. "Don't go for the pizza, it is microwaved and not worth the price."
I frowned looking at the menu. "Damn that was what I was going to get."
"Figured." He smiled this bright and perfect smile that was so inviting. "Sam." He stuck his hand out and sipped his beer.
"Adalyn." He looked curious as I shook awkwardly.
"Gus." He yelled as everyone turned to him. "Get her your famous salad." He smiled. "You will thank me, he makes the best mushrooms oddly enough." He then walked off towards the pool table where a purple haired girl was laying over a chair reading something.
"Sam, do you think this would look right on me." She yelled not looking up and waved around some page I could not see clearly.
"No, Nothing looks good on you." I heard and she sat up angry and looked at him. She was so cute and then tossed the book at him and he dodged before handing her a beer. I just smiled at them and turned back to who I believe is Gus and ordered the salad.
These people are friendly.
It was mushroom's, asparagus and lettuce. Sounds weird but tasted good and was filling.
Halfway home the rain started, I tried to speed my slow ass up but by the time I got to the cottage I was soaked and covered mud. I paused just below my steps as the lighting cracked and then thunder rocked the sky.
The downpour was cold but peaceful as the tree's moved in the wind and the mud below was thick. I kind of loved it as I stood there facing the sky with my eye's closed.
I started to walk and check out the barn. It took a bit to get the old stuck doors open and I think it was packed full. I used my phone and turned a light into it filled with enough stuff it would be on hoarders.
"Shit." This is work.
Lightning flashed making me jump and feel nervous being in a dark barn in a weird forest with this storm but that made me notice that there was many boxes with my moms name.
I stepped farther in and looked around. Peeking out behind a tarp was a large tire attached to something I wanted at. I tried to pull, even put all my weight in it that if it came loose I would be on my ass but nothing moved.
Too many things holding it down.
I walked inside kicking my wet shoes and leaving them on the porch. I tossed the blanket's into the dryer and took off my wet clothes hanging them around the room. Standing there with nothing to do I took the only workable chair and pulled it onto the porch sitting in my undies.
Only some dust from the rain hit me here and I lit a smoke admiring the moment.
It was kind of amazing.
