Chapter: 6
Naruto, Nishiki, and Kaneki were running to the location Shuu said he'd be waiting for Kaneki. They arrived at a chapple with lighted candles leading to the altar with Kimi's body laying on it. Naruto went for a more altitude position to sneak up on him through a window while Kaneki and Nishio entered the main entrance to distract him.
Naruto watched the conversation and he was quite disgusted. Shuu relayed to the two "intruders" his plan to eat Kaneki while he feasted on Kimi's unconscious body. He waited for an opening, but Shuu was a koukaku type, one that relies on heavy attacks and defense. So he'd have to wait for the right moment.
He also wanted to see if Kaneki's training was worth the time. A few seconds ago he thought it was, that was till he saw Nishio get sent flying with one punch.
'This ain't gonna be pretty.'
He was right. He watched as Kaneki threw punch after punch to Shuu, but each attack was dodged.
"Oh my, Kaneki. You're rather clumsy." Shuu stated, he caught his fist and pulled back with a smirk before remarking: "Pay attention. This my friend-" he punched him in the face before examining his knuckles and tightened his grip. "Is what a real punch feels like." He grinned when he watched Kaneki run at him. He dodged a kick attempt, and pulled back. "Oh, and this-" he drove foot into Kaneki's exposed mid-section, launching him into a seat, "Is what a real kick feels like."
Naruto palmed his face and slowly dragged it down his face. He couldn't be more open! Naruto screamed inwardly and looked down at Kaneki's gasping face and stifled a laugh.
"What attack would you like to see next, my darling?" Shuu asked, and seeing Shuu's exposed back Naruto was about to make his move until Touka came flying in and struck Tsukiyama across the face.
Naruto whistled when he saw the strike. But he was quite surprised when Shuu's wound healed quicker than expected. He then realized something.
"You idiot…" Naruto whispered as he realized she must've eaten more of Yoriko's food. He watched as Shuu Tsukiyama dismantled both Touka and Kaneki without effort and broke Kaneki's arm from the elbow.
That's when Naruto did it.
He jumped down to the Frenchman and thrusted both of his knees into his back, smashing the purple wearing man into the aisles floor, bringing up a dust cloud. He jumped from the cloud and examined his work.
He watched as Shuu stepped out of the foliage and ripped his blazer off, it was ruined after all.
"My, my. You've grown stronger, and quicker it seems." Shuu Tsukiyama said with an impressed tone. He then rushed Naruto, the redhead stepped out of the way of a flying kick and punched Shuu out of mid-air.
"You haven't changed at all." Naruto's remark was rewarded with a scowl.
"What a smart mouth you have, I'll have to-" with a snap of his fingers his koukaku protruded from his middle back and wrapped itself around his arm in a blade fashion. "Cut it from your beautiful face." Shuu said and began his charge.
Naruto side stepped his first strike, kicked his leg before elbowing his neck and kicking him onto his face. "Have you ever done this before?" Naruto baited him. He then ducked a strike before striking him several times in the stomach and kicked him away. "Come on, you call that an attack?" he jumped over Shuu's long range attack, and he sped to his location and sent two knees to his gut before jumping over him and kicking him in the head.
He then jumped to the balcony, evading another strike. They continued their fight over there.
Kaneki sat up, clutching his gaping stomach. "How can Naruto contend with Tsukiyama so easily?" the half-ghoul asked his co-worker/friend. Touka smirked, an arm covering her gut.
"Naruto's Anteiku's trump card…" Touka said, spitting out some blood. "He's SSS+ rated, he never let his skills dull over the years where there was peace because he imagined there'd be a time where strength was needed." Touka said and leaned on the seat behind her. Naruto could handle it.
Kaneki's eyes showed adoration and wonder. 'If he obtained that power, could I?'
Shuu ruthlessly attacked Naruto who dodged each strike with a smirk. He rolled underneath an attack before backhanding Shuu, throwing him off the balcony.
"Uzumaki, you know of the history with my family." Shuu asked him, the dust obstructing his vision.
"That you guys can't become kakuja due to your "pure" blood relations. What of it?" he asked, crossing his arm. He then jumped out of the way of a long-ranged attack, landing on the wall and becoming stationary.
As the smoke cleared, Naruto's eyebrow raised a bit from what he saw. Shuu had his regular kagune, but it had more of an indigo color and it was sharper, with a shield on his left arm and a half mask forming on his face.
"And how did you manage to pull that off?" Naruto asked, Shuu then swiped his blade a few times, enjoying the power brought from it.
"Well you see, my red diamond. I continuously cannibalized on ghouls for years, but only now have the RC cells inside my body finally found its counterpart." Shuu said, his right eye showing through the mask. Naruto nodded, jumping down from the wall and sitting on one of the rows.
"Uh-huh." he said with a bored tone, he didn't give much of a damn. Shuu saw this.
"The counterpart being my own blood!" Shuu exclaimed with a tone that sent shivers up Kaneki's back. "Accidentally intaking a relative's flesh awakened the mutation in my cells!" he screamed, falling onto a knee at the fallen soul that gave up their life to activate his kakuja mutation.
"So, you ate a member of your clan, and that activated your kakuja?" Naruto summarized while standing up, maybe he will need to try.
Shuu Tsukiyama nodded and pointed his blade at Naruto.
"Activate your kagune, Naruto… you'll need it." Shuu said, and Naruto took his trench coat off, showing his training outfit; black shirt, white pants with a black belt and black martial art slippers.
"Nah. I'm good."
Shuu laughed until he felt lighter, like he was floating, and then he saw a red hand protruding from his chest. He made a resounding 'oh' and realized what happened. Naruto speed blitzed Shuu and smashed through his shield, reappearing behind him and pierced him through the back and lifted him up.
"Never underestimate your opponent. The battle could shift in a blink of an eye, but in your case, it was decided." Naruto said coldly before throwing him away.
The redhead then walked to the altar. He saw Kimi slowly wake up, and turn over. Naruto said a silent 'sorry' before he closed his left eye and activated his kakugan. He pulled his hand back, and meant to kill her.
"Naruto! Don't kill her!" Kaneki shouted in panic. The redhead stopped, glaring at Kaneki and appeared in front of his face, their noses just inches away from one another.
"She's a witness. She knows that we're ghouls. I have to kill her." Naruto said coldly, he lifted Kaneki up by the hair and brought him closer. "It's kill or be killed in this life. Eat to survive, kill to survive, hide to survive. Kill your emotions, crush your enemies and protect your friends." Naruto said dearly and threw Kaneki down before turning back to Kimi.
"Sorry, Ms. Kimi. But your life is about to end, do you have any last words?" Naruto asked politely. Kimi meant to say something when someone's voice sounded out in the area.
"Don't touch her, Naruto…" Nishiki growled out, standing in the middle of the aisle. Naruto looked at him with a cold piercing gaze, daring him to make a move to try and stop him.
"You'll thank me later, Nishiki." Naruto said and he turned back to Kimi, and held his hand out intending to strike Kimi down, that was when a kagune came in front of him through the wooden altar, causing him to jump back.
"Naruto, you don't need to do this." Kaneki said, his kagune retracting, showing his two rinkaku tails. Kaneki shrugged his gaping jacket, showing the white blood stained shirt.
"Kaneki, I do. I need to do this, I'm saving Nishio from doing it." Naruto said, turning back. That was when his leg was grabbed and saw Kaneki holding him with one of his tails.
"Naruto, think about it. What would you do if-" Kaneki was cut off.
"A human that I held dearly was sitting over there?" Naruto said, and the other half-breed nodded. "After my father died, I never befriended a human. And that's how it will be." Naruto said, and turned back to Kimi.
Someone's voice cut into his head.
'With time people change, Naruto. I was too young to understand that, but I realize that now.' the voice of Yoshimura said to a younger Naruto after he returned from the 17th ward, he wanted blood. The CCG killed his comrades that were helping him with recon, he wanted those humans dead.
"I realize that now…" Naruto said, then sliced Kaneki's rinkaku off and picked up his trench coat. "...Nishiki, why do you protect that woman?" the blonde asked.
"Because, I love her. I don't care if she's a human, she was willing to risk her life for me. I'll risk my own to save hers." Nishio said honestly, and entered a stance for attacking low.
"No need. I'll go now." Naruto said, he crouched low and scooped up Touka into his arms before flicking off.
Timeskip
After the incident at the church, a few things changed. Naruto took a few days off away from Anteiku with the manager's approval after hearing what he was going to do to Kimi, with guidance of Yoshimura and the persuasion of Kaneki, Nishiki Nishio worked at Anteiku as a coffee server.
Touka was on an all time alert for Naruto. When he left Anteiku, he didn't say anything to give away where he was going. He just kissed her forehead before walking away into the foggy streets. Only a few knew where Naruto was.
Touka was trying to insist Yoshimura spill the beans about where Naruto ran off to, but Yoshimura's lips were sealed. Yomo was tight-lipped as ever, especially with this secret. But she knew one person would tell her.
"What do you mean you don't know where he is?" Touka exclaimed, she was at Itori's bar and the redhead was cleaning glasses.
"Just that. I don't know, he might've realized you'd come look for him and made sure to tell people that won't squeal." Itori said, placing the clean glass on the glass rack under the countertop. "I'm not really surprised. I would've told you if I knew." she said and put a hand on her shoulder. "Have faith in your boyfriend." Itori told Touka and the purplette left.
After reentering the shop, Naruto was usually bussing tables, but now he wasn't there to do it.
"Touka, I know you're worried about Naruto. But don't be, he's just doing some errands." Yoshimura said calmly, Touka looked as though she wanted to pull her hair out.
"All I know is worrying about that idiot! Just tell me where he is!" Touka shouted, and Yoshimura shook his head with a frown.
"You must have faith."
13th Ward
A battle between a band of ghouls was ensuing in an alley with multiple railings and garbage bins. There was multiple dead ghouls littering the alleyway.
Kitsune ducked underneath a koukaku blade and punched a hole through the ghouls stomach before he appeared in front of the last of the herd.
"Where do you think you're going?" he asked in an altered voice before destroying his mask and grabbed his throat before lifting him up.
"Please… have mercy." the ghoul leader gasped out, he was doing recon for Aogiri Tree, but he was spotted.
"Tell me where the One Eyed King is." he ordered.
"He's… the leader of-"
A kagune tentacle then pierced through the man's chest and Kitsune jumped back, the redhead recognized the kagune.
"Eto."
"Hello, Naruto." Eto said. Eto was a young woman with a child-like appearance. Her entire body was wrapped in bandages, with a tattered maroon cloak with droopy ears attached to the hood. She was also wearing a floral scarf around her neck and her right eye was red just like Naruto's while the other eye is a normal green eye.
"What're you doing in the 13th Ward, Owl?" Naruto asked, staring intently at Eto.
"Oh, you know. Finding new bait for bigger fish, and I heard about you and little-miss bossy." Eto said, she sounded annoyed. Naruto smirked underneath his mask.
"Trying to blackmail me with that information?" Kitsune asked, cracking his back, resulting in loud snaps which were his spine.
"Me, no. I'm just wondering when you'll come back to us?" Eto asked, appearing behind and found herself held in the air from her collar.
"You're going to have to move faster to get behind me." Naruto said and threw her down onto the ground. He punched the ground where she was, but Eto jumped onto a railing.
"That statement goes for you as well, my sweet rose." her remark was gifted with a scowl and a click of his teeth from Naruto.
The redhead then entered a stance, he beckoned Eto to charge him.
"If you expect me to fight you, you're mistaken." Eto said and jumped away.
Naruto turned around, whispering 'waste of time'. That was when he blocked a kakuhou that was meant to pierce him through the back like a kebab.
"Always the same trick." Naruto stated, and stabbed her kagune with a blade he stole from the band of ghouls to use in his massacre with the bunch. "So, do you wanna fight?" asked Naruto. Eto, standing on another railing giggled.
"Oh no, I came to say that my offer still stands." Eto's kakugan flashed an angry red. "Just imagine how strong we would be, me, you, Aogiri, Anteiku. We'll be unstoppable!" she exclaimed, using her arms to emphasize her claim. "So how about it?"
Naruto scratched his head, his kagune then protruded from his back. A long blue tail launched at Eto who jumped on it and ran down the kakuhou. Naruto then forced smaller tails from the larger one to trip up Eto.
Jumping off the kagune, Eto landed behind Naruto, but she was forced to retreat when another tail spewed from his tailbone and went to skewer Eto.
"You're quick, like a little cockroach escaping its fate." Naruto said, he retracted his kagune and walked towards Eto.
Eto was left giggling, and she activated her own kagune. A ukaku wing and blade appeared on opposite sides of her back.
Naruto and Eto then jumped to each other, a slice finishing the fight.
One of Kitsune's tails was discarded on the ground, and Eto's blade was laying on the earth. But her severed left arm was being held by Naruto.
"You're not even in the same league as your father." Naruto taunted and dropped the arm. He then watched Eto grab her arm and reattach it and ran away. Naruto then pulled off his mask, showing that half of his face was skinless, and the other half was slowly peeling off. "She didn't even make me go to stage: 4. What a drag." Naruto said and noticed movement behind him, and slipped his mask back on.
"Ahh, another fish." Naruto said and picked up the wounded man he stabbed. "Tell me what I need to know, and I'll let you live." he promised, at the thought of living another day, the man squealed his secrets.
'So the CCG are planning to raid Anteiku and Aogiri… maybe we can use this to our advantage.' Naruto then looked up to the sky after killing the ghoul via snapping his neck. "Maybe we'll see uncle." Naruto said fondly.
Anteiku
Finding his keys, bobbing his head to the music playing in the background, he entered the coffee shop and walked up the stairs in the staff room. He heard some hit the wall, and he looked to the room it came from.
Opening the door and entering the room, he looked at everyone gathered around, he saw Touka with her fist in the wall.
"Welcome back, Naruto. Have you got what I asked for?" Yoshimura asked, the redhead nodded. "Later. Sit down, we have much to talk about." the manager of Anteiku said and the redhead sat on the couch with Koma and Irimi.
"Why's everyone so… you know. Dead?" Naruto said, and Touka winced.
"Well, I'm just here to say, Ryoko is dead. Investigators found her and Hinami, she is safe. But at a cost of escaping the CCG Ryoko sacrificed herself." Yoshimura said, and Naruto sighed. He didn't have much to say.
"Well, damn." he said, and Touka clicked her teeth.
"Is that it?" she snapped at her boyfriend, she took his short answer as a way to say he didn't care.
"Not much I can say, it won't bring her back." Naruto said, and he flashed off the couch, the spot he was at was currently dented with Touka's heel.
She started attacking him.
The redhead dodged each punch, he slipped her punch and threw her to the ground. Seeing her get up, the redhead knocked her out with a chop to the neck and set her down on the couch cushion.
"Yoshimura. I understand now, it's not humans that are the problem, it's not ghouls. It's all of us. But I'll break that cycle of kill to survive." Naruto said and walked out of the room with a mission.
Break this cycle of hatred between humans and ghouls and kick the crap out of the guy who made it in the first place.
Chapter: 6 end
Yo, I bet your main criticism of the chapter is Shuu's kakuja. Yeah, I'd always wonder why he didn't have one, even after cannibalizing for so long, and still hadn't unlocked it. But I found out that it was a birth defect.
So, to counter that, I made it so only cannibalism in the family is what unlocks them, since their RC cells should be pure and potent enough for Shuu's to awaken. But even after awakening it, he still got one-shotted. Sad.
