Two weeks of intensive research and countless late-night discussions had finally culminated in the day that Veronica and Archie were to present their vision for their dream wedding to her parents. With the PowerPoint presentation in hand, they made their way to the Lodge mansion, determined to make Hiram and Hermione understand their plans.
As they set up in the living room, Veronica took a deep breath and began. "Mom, Dad, thank you for giving us this chance to explain. We've done a lot of research and put a lot of thought into this wedding. I even got Emily Cooper, one of my best friends, to go to the venue in Paris for us."
Hiram raised an eyebrow. "Emily Cooper? The one in Paris?"
"Yes," Veronica confirmed. "She's been amazing. She took pictures, met with the vendors, and helped us finalize everything."
Hermione's eyes widened. "You sent someone to Paris already?"
Veronica nodded. "Yes, and it's all set. Let us show you."
Archie took over, clicking to the first slide. "This is the location and the venue: a beautiful Parisian setting overlooking the Eiffel Tower."
Veronica added, "And if, for any reason, the venue gets derailed, we have a backup plan. The Paris Catacombs."
Hiram and Hermione exchanged horrified glances. "The Catacombs?" Hermione whispered, aghast.
"Don't worry, that's just a worst-case scenario," Archie reassured them. "Now, we had to make some tough decisions. We cut the guest list down by 200 people, so the total number of guests is 350."
Hiram's face turned a shade paler. "You cut 200 people?"
"Yes," Veronica said, bracing herself for the reaction. "It was necessary to keep the wedding intimate and special."
Archie continued presenting the next slides. "We'll have some fun elements too. There will be a Giant Jenga, a macaroon bar, a DJ, a milkshake bar, BBQ, and a photo booth."
Hermione looked more and more incredulous with each new idea. "A milkshake bar? Giant Jenga? Are you serious?"
Veronica tried to keep her voice calm. "Yes, Mom. It's about creating a unique, memorable experience for us and our guests."
After the presentation, there was a moment of tense silence before Hiram spoke. "We're still against this idea. The whole thing is too unconventional."
Hermione nodded. "It's not what we envisioned for you."
Hiram leaned forward, his voice stern. "If you want the money back from the wedding payment, we can arrange that."
Veronica's eyes widened in horror. "Dad, the money has already been paid. It's too late to get it back."
Hiram's expression was unyielding. "The whole life savings money was for the wedding. I want to take it away and use it for your rent and apartment."
Archie felt his anger rising. "You can't just take away our money. We've worked hard for this."
The tension in the room reached a boiling point. Veronica's face turned red with fury. "This is our wedding! How can you threaten to cancel it?"
Hermione's voice was sharp. "If you continue with this Paris plan, we will cancel it. This is not how things should be done."
Veronica's voice shook with anger. "The affordable option is the Parisian wedding. We've budgeted everything carefully."
Hiram's voice was cold. "The wedding is canceled."
At this, Veronica and Archie both exploded with anger. "You can't do this!" Veronica shouted. "We've planned everything down to the last detail. You have no right to cancel our wedding."
Hiram stood his ground. "We're trying to protect you from making a huge mistake."
Archie stepped forward, his face inches from Hiram's. "This isn't protection. This is control. We're adults, and we can make our own decisions."
Veronica, her voice filled with frustration and determination, added, "We're getting married in Paris. With or without your approval."
Hermione's face twisted with anger. "If you go through with this, don't expect us to be there."
Veronica's heart ached, but she stood firm. "So be it. We're doing this our way."
As they left the mansion, Veronica and Archie felt a mix of anger and sadness. The confrontation with her parents had been worse than they'd anticipated, but their resolve was stronger than ever.
Back at their apartment, they collapsed onto the couch, emotionally exhausted. Veronica took Archie's hand, her voice soft but resolute. "We're going to have our dream wedding, Archie. No matter what."
Archie nodded, pulling her close. "We are. And it'll be perfect because it's what we want."
Together, they faced the future with determination, ready to overcome any obstacle in their path to their Parisian wedding. They knew that their love was strong enough to withstand even the most challenging opposition.
