Chapter 1
Into the Block
Falling… falling… I think I am going to vomit.
*SPLOOSH!*
A man fell from the sky. Quite a few people fell elsewhere, and that will be important later, but please reader, focus on this man. He wasn't particularly remarkable in many ways, most of all not his appearance. He had only ever played Minecraft when it first came out, and now…
He was inside of it.
This is just great.
And now, he is soaked.
The man climbs out of the water. Well, it was really more like flailing in the general direction of land, but please be respectful reader, the water was hardly calm.
The man looked around. He was on the coast of a raging river.
It was all cubed. Each cube was composed of pixels, and looking at his arms, he realized he was made of cubes. His clothing was blue.
Beyond the coast was an old growth taiga. While you almost certainly have seen one, the man has not, except in the occasional videos of Minecraft he has watched.
What is the first thing you do in Minecraft?
It was so simple and easy, just punch wood.
He started punching it with his blocky arms. It only hurt a little. Slowly, very slowly, a crack appeared, and spread, just as slow. It took half a minute to mine a single log.
He didn't complain, he knew the game has changed a lot since he had played, though honestly the mining time is annoying. He spent four minutes mining.
After obtaining a few logs, he realized he had no idea how to open his inventory.
[Daniel]
…
"Uh… Inventory?"
…
"Tab?"
…
I laid down on the ground, right underneath my floating tree leaves, and closed my eyes in frustration.
There. I saw my inventory slowly appear in my vision. Inside my inventory, I saw my own face. Good to know I am still me. I then saw the crafting grid. I placed a 'Spruce Log' into the grid, and received four of 'Spruce Plank'.
I placed the remaining seven logs into the grid, for a total of 32 planks, with a new crafting table, I crafted a wooden pickaxe, then opened my eyes. A little more time had passed, but the sun had barely moved. It appears that a day is no longer ten minutes.
A nearby cliff was all it took before I had a stone pickaxe, and a stone axe. It took half a minute to get the pickaxe, then only a few seconds per block using his new stone pickaxe. I threw out the wooden one, who needs it anyways?
I dug a little further into the cliff side, and crafted a spruce door. With that done, I wanted to sort out food, so I punched some grass until I got a few seeds, then crafted a hoe and tilled the dirt near the river. The seeds planted, I decided I needed wood. For a little more than an hour, I obtained seven and a half stacks of logs.
I explored the surrounding area, and found a small cave with coal and iron, which I mined. I got four pieces of 'Raw Iron' and eight pieces of coal. I closed my eyes and crafted sixteen torches. After heading home, I put my iron in the furnace, and checked on my farm. No wheat yet.
It was an hour til noon, so I crafted a shear, and decided to search for sheep.
It took three hours before I found a small group of sheep. I sheared them all. Nine wool total.
When I got back home, I crafted a bed. To my surprise, it was white.
Once I had finished, I heard movement outside.
I grabbed my axe and ran out.
A man was outside.
"Hello?" I said.
"Hello… What is your name?" said the man.
"It's Daniel. You?"
"John." He said.
"Do you know what happened to us?" I asked.
…
John spoke again. "No." … John continued.
"I am likely as confused as you are."
"Have you seen others?"
John looked down. "A few. They avoided me."
"What have you been doing this whole time?" I asked.
"Exploring. Looking for people."
"So you don't have any wood…"
"Nope."
…
Together, we widened the cave, and I placed two more beds. By the time we were finished, darkness had come, and it was hungry.
