May God bless you all.
The next few weeks were… awkward to say the least. Oscar found himself mostly avoiding both girls. In truth, neither seemed too anxious to get to him either. In truth, it kind of sucked. Both girls were such good friends to him and now it had been made weird by their confessions. The fact that both were such good friends also made it hard to "choose". Then again he wasn't exactly sure that he even wanted to choose.
That was one of Oscar's main faults. He hated hurting other people's feelings. He prided himself in being able to encourage others, and no matter what his decision was, someone would get hurt. But if he didn't decide, both girls would get hurt. It was all very discouraging.
"Hey, Oscar." Said no one other than his best friend Hedgehog as she sat next to him at the cafeteria. Max also sat down next to Hedgehog.
"Hey." Said Oscar who quickly continued eating his food, as he had sort of blanked out for a moment there thinking about his current predicament.
"Dude how's it been you've been… different lately."
"Max!" Hedgehog shouted.
"I'm just saying." The bat retorted.
"Don't worry Oscar, you don't have to say anything." Hedgehog told him.
"Thanks, Hedgehog, just been well camps different this year." He told her.
"Yeah, well everyone's older… well except Susie." Said Max.
"Yeah, it's weird thinking that in a few months, you'll be her same age huh Oscar?" Hedgehog asked.
"Yeah… definitely." Replied Oscar. "Think it'll make a difference?"
"Nope, she'll still boss you around just as much." Said Max.
"Probably," Hedgehog affirmed.
As the conversation went on Oscar found it harder to hide what he was going through. Hedgehog was his best friend after all, like they told each other everything…
…well almost everything. Come to think of it he remembered how she had hidden her crush on Max from him. This was actually pretty similar, and Oscar had no intention of sharing what had happened to him…
… with hedgehog that was.
"So Oscar, we were thinking of going swimming." Said Hedgehog. "Wanna…"
"Yes!…" Oscar said realizing what a golden opportunity this presented.
"Okay, calm down dude…" Said Max.
"Aw let him be." Hedgehog said. "He's just being Oscar again."
Oscar chuckled to lighten the mood. He was pretty sure Hedgehog had no idea the real reason he was so eager to…
"go swimming."
"Why can't I swim too?" Asked Jam Jam.
Oscar simply chuckled in reply. The talking pajamas knew why he wasn't able to go in the water with the rest of them.
*knock* *knock*
"Okay Oscar, don't seem too anxious." He told himself before letting Max in.
"Hey, Max so glad you're here to go swimming!" He yelled completely giving away his excitement.
"Okay, what's up dude?" Max said with a straight face as he entered Oscar's cabin.
"What… why…" Oscar began before looking at Max's stone-cold expression which screamed "I know something's going on."
"Okay… listen. But you can't tell Hedgehog." Oscar insisted as Max began getting ready.
"Ah, come on man… you know I'm not good at secrets." He insisted.
"But, we've kept secrets from her before." Oscar said.
"Yeah, but that was before she became my girlfriend." Max told him.
"Come on man, bro code." Replied Oscar.
"Really…"
Max sighed. "Okay, but no promises."
"I'll take it." Said Oscar. "Okay, well the other day Lucy sort of… confessed."
"It's about time. Wait Hedgehog owes me a meal." Said Max.
"What?"
"Um… never mind go on." Max quickly said.
"Okay… um, but that's not all… Alice did the same day."
"Wait our counselor Alice?" Max asked in surprise.
"Yes… you know another Alice?"
"A few." Said Max. "I even have an aunt Alice…"
"Max!" Oscar shouted.
"You're right, sorry… well looks like someone's popular with the ladies." Max said.
"I don't want to be popular I just want advice on what to do."
"Well, who do you like?" Max asked.
"I don't know… but that's not even the major issue."
*knock* knock*
The two boys turned to the glass doors behind Oscar's cabin.
"We going swimming or what?" Hedgehog shouted from the other side of the doors.
"Um… yeah come Max." Oscar said.
The two joined hedgehog in the swimming pool.
"Hello, babies." Said Susie as her and Betsy flew by. "Going swimming I see."
"Yes… Susie." Hedgehog said.
"Oscar cooling off?" Susie asked.
"Um… yeah…" He responded somewhat cautiously.
"Well, don't forget your sunscreen, she's piping today." Advised Betsy.
"Hey!" The Sun shouted.
"Just pointing out." Betsy insisted.
"Well see you." Said Susie as the two counselors left.
Oscar scratched his chin. Susie's comment to him specifically seemed a bit… weird.
"Come on in the water's fine." Said Hedgehog. She and Max were already in the water.
"Oh… yeah." Oscar said as he went in.
The three enjoyed their time in the pool and in truth, Oscar was glad to be able just to relax and not think about…
…oh who was he kidding it was still in the back of his mind.
And it didn't help that Susie…
"Oh no…" Oscar accidentally said out loud.
"What?" Asked Hedgehog.
"Um… never mind." He said as he splashed his best friend.
"Oh, you want to go? She playfully responded.
The three began splashing each other and the rest of the time flew by.
"That was fun..." Said Oscar as the three headed to the bathrooms.
He and Max headed to the boys with Hedgehog going to the girls'.
"Okay, back to where we were." Said Oscar as he and Max showered.
"Seriously man… you just gotta figure out who you like. Pray about it, think about it and decide."
"But, no matter who I choose, I'm gonna hurt someone's feelings." Oscar said.
"That's just what has to happen." Max insisted. "You can't go through life not hurting anyone's feelings. That's life."
"I know… but I care about both of them. I don't…"
"Listen man." Said Max as he got out of the shower and began drying off.
"You have to choose. You can't just leave them hanging."
Oscar sighed. "You're right." He said as he too exited his stall and began drying off.
"Thanks for the advice."
"No, problem man. Seriously though, not rushing you but also not sure how long I'll be able to keep this from hedgehog."
"Okay." Oscar said with a chuckle.
The two exited and as evening drew, went their separate ways.
However Oscar unlike the other two didn't head back to his cabin. He wanted one more person's advice before making his decision. At first he wasn't going to ask this person but after swimming a revelation of source had been made to him.
*knock* *knock*
"Why hello…" She greeted after opening the door to her cabin.
"Hello…" He said warily.
"Had fun swimming?" She asked in a too-happy tune.
"Okay, I know you know and you know you know." Oscar said dropping the facade.
"Know what?" She said playfully.
"Come on." He pleaded.
"Say it…" She responded.
Oscar sighed.
"Two girls confessed to me on the same day. Alice and Lucy." Oscar stated rather unwillingly.
"Yes… miracles do happen." She responded jokingly.
"So, are you going to help me or not?" He asked wanting to get directly to the point.
"You know my price." She responded.
"Yup…" Said Oscar as she directed him inside her cabin.
"…I do."
Thank you for all who made it to the end.
May God bless you all.
