Pocket Dimension: A SCI-FI discussion.
MINOR SPOILER ALERT: This will have minor spoilers for Battlestar Ghostship LMAD-03 Mermaid. There are no major plot points disclosed. However, this is a very nerdy discussion of a new and major technology that is explored. Everything here is actually NOT based on any existing IP it is my own intellectual creation. I am however using this idea in my FanFiction.
Thanx

What is an interdimensional pocket?
Similar to a bag of holding found in many fantasy adventure settings; the Battlestar Mermaid LMAD-03 has a pocket dimension that it can store things in. For example LMAD-03 has an enormous factory setup for refining, material manufacturing, etc. This facility is estimated to weigh 50 million short tons. It is contained in the d-pocket (the interdimensional) space.
A d-pocket is created using what is typically considered to be an extremely fatal mistake using FTL jump drives. When you do an FTL jump and your destination is the exact same as your departure point typically means that the star ship using the FTL jump is lost and nobody knows what happened to it.
However, somebody decided to test that theory; and found out that an interdimensional pocket could be created if you did it 'just right'. If you calculated it accurately (DON'T USE THE METRIC SYSTEM) you could sacrifice a second FTL capable ship while leaving the original ship intact and a d-pocket would be created that can be accessed from the original ship.
PLEASE NOTE: Some serious 'laws' of physics are re-written in the process (notice I didn't say 'laws of physics broken').
Things you need to create a pocket dimension:
ONE: TOUCHSTONE: A fully functional FTL capable ship. For example: the LMAD-03 Mermaid Battlestar.
TWO: COUNTER-MASS-SACRIFICE (a.k.a. CMS): The FTL capable ship to be sacrificed. In this example it was a massive cargo ship carrying [REDACTED] million tons of special cargo (see 'sacrificeable material' below).
THREE: A blatant disregard for safety, and the emotional acceptance that you are required to do things that any ethical physicist would tell you is fraking crazy.
The procedure (simplified) for creating the pocket dimension is as follows
BEFORE YOU START: All calculations must be done using COLONIAL UNITS of measurements (feet, inches, pounds etc). ANY calculation done with 10base units (metric) will result in a compounding floating point error and will either create a SUPERNOVA or even worse a [REDACTED](depending on negative or positive error in calculation).
FIRST: Plot an FTL jump where your destination is the same as your departure point. NOTE: in order to do this successfully the plot for the FTL jump must compensate for [REDACTED].
SECOND: Place the FTL capable ship to be sacrificed a short distance from the original ship. It is recommended that the following formula be used to determine the best distance: [REDACTED].
THIRD: Execute both jumps simultaneously. If calculated correctly the pocket dimension will be created and accessible using the original ship's FTL drive. This will result in a subspace pocket that weighs nothing in real space and can accommodate a total mass equal to the CMS (counter mass singularity).
IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS:
ONE: the sacrificed ship must have a much larger mass than the other one.
TWO: No calculations can be done in 10base (metric).
THREE: the sacrificed ship must NOT have any living people on the ship. Putting a life form on the sacrificed ship has no detrimental effects on the procedure itself, but those life forms are utterly and completely [REDACTED]. Dead people on the sacrificed ship are unaffected.
FOUR: The enhanced ship must have at least one LIVING sentient being on board (reasons for this are unknown).
Once this is done; the original FTL capable ship now has a pocket dimension that it can store things in and retrieve at its convenience. Examples include, fuel, ammo, food, water, vehicles, heavy industrial equipment, housing for civilians and much more. The proper procedure to create a door between the pocket dimension and the ship is rather safe and simple by following these procedures: [REDACTED].
GLOSSARY OF TERMS:
COUNTER-MASS-SACRIFICE (CMS). The CMS is the FTL capable ship that is sacrificed in the procedure to create a d-pocket. The mass capacity of the d-pocket is equal to the total mass of 'sacrificeable material' on the CMS FTL capable ship.
D-POCKET: the interdimensional pocket that is being discussed here. The LMAD-03 Mermaid has a d-pocket that can accommodate [REDACTED] million colonial tons of mass.
SACRIFICEABLE MATERIAL: Types of matter that can be consumed to create a d-pocket. Examples include (but are not limited to)
1. Corium
2. Industrial Diamonds
3. Thermonuclear explosion (15 mega tons minimum)
4. Ozone – type 2
5. Osmium
6. Tritium
7. Unobtainium
8. Electrum (gold/silver) 30%-70% mix by mass.
TOUCHSHIP: also called TOUCHSTONE. A touch ship is a ship that exists in the normal 'real' Newtonian universe that has a connection to a d-pocket.
