AN: This Magical Britian is not as nice a place as canon, though nowhere as bad as Nasuverse Mages and the Kind of shit they get up to. Just on the more morally bankrupt side of the spectrum, where the good guys aren't as good, and the bad guys are a bit worse. Gary was an intro to the darker side of this wonderous world, one that is hidden under the light of Dumbledore and safety at Hogwarts. This is a world where people with the power to tell reality to fuck off have been attack numerous times by those they have considered lesser, time and time again. They learned to adapt, and do so violently.
The exact nature of Garys crimes will be under the chapter.

So, apparently magical slavery was a thing since the earliest mentions of magic. Ancient Egyptian sorcerers used slaves, both magical and mundane for a variety of tasks, The Greeks often kept rivals under oaths sworn to the gods, while the Romans were known for enforcing strict magical bindings on slaves captured in their conquest. Even in Britian the method was used as a way of keeping branch families loyal, gaining the support of a lesser Guse, and standing armies for war against an opposing Family. A practice that only grew around the fifteenth century as the Wizards used the pressure from the varies witch hunts and attacks as justification on enslaving their enemies. This also happened to be the period that the so called Sacred Twenty-Eight formed, a group of the eldest magical families who swore to defend their peoples from attacks. The laws against binding others have been more restricted over the centuries since, but not completely suppressed.

It should be noted that in recent years the practice has been reduced even more than it was previously, mainly thanks to the efforts of Dumbledore, but the man was working against centuries of tradition common around the world. He had managed to ban the practice at Hogwarts, making this one of the safest places for Muggle-Borns to be. The reason that nobody saw fit to warn the new students was that they either were already aware, or they would learn in History of Magic. It was only after graduating Hogwarts would Muggle-Borns need to worry about being enslaved, and even then, only by some of the darker families. Gary, as an Ex-Durmstrang student, had a different foundation than most of the students here and was unaware how different the laws here could end up getting him killed.

The laws were an even bigger clusterfuck to go through, as apparently there were classifications on citizens that determined what rights they had. At the bottom were Muggleborns, basically third-class citizens that were barely protected by the law, and usually only against muggles who weren't even seem as human in the eyes of the government. Next were the Low-Borns, or Half-Bloods that did not have any Pure-Blood Heritage. They were only slightly more tolerated than Muggleborn's were on account of having some magical heritage, but not by much. Next were the Mixed-Breeds, those who had magical creatures in their heritage, they were often compared to animals. After them came the common Half-Bloods, those of diluted Pure-Blood, where I technically resided. Then came the Lesser Pure-Bloods, those who were considered pure-blood due to having generations of magical heritage but not much else. Noble Pure Bloods were those pure-blood families who were basically Wizard Nobility, the first-class citizen with more protection and rights than all the previous groups combined.

Hell, the only reason Gary was given the death penalty despite being a Pure-Blood himself was that he managed to enslave a Lesser Pure-Blood, something that was clearly noted to be a crime punishable by death to any who did it. Even without that though he would have probably been killed due to the numerous people he had raped in his time at the castle, and on the off chance he survived he was getting shipped to Azkaban for his numerous other crimes. The dumbass, when questioned by Professor Snape and Dumbledore, admitted to targeting me for the express purpose of trying to get to Rose, something that when I was told almost made me g ad tear the fuckers head from his body, through by that time he had already been shipped to the Ministry to be kissed.

This incident brought to my attention just how important it was to actually learn how this world worked, and not assume that I knew everything due to metaknowledge. I didn't even manage to sleep that night, having snuck into the library to research all of this. So, when I walked into the Great Hall completely exhausted, and hoping to use this time to rest before dealing with Quirrlemort, I was unprepared to be approached by multiple students, all in the years above me, thanking me for either getting revenge for them, or for someone they knew. How the hell did I become the Hero in this story? I mean, I am doing the exact same thing as that bastard, just more subtle. It was only after the fifth crying woman had to be pulled off of me that I manage to reach my companions, and I wasted no time hiding between Daphne and Lisa, using the two blonds as cover from any well-wishers.

That in turn only opened me up to a relentless barrage of questions from my classmates, all trying to pry into any detail they could about what happened. Thankfully Daphne could see my current state and managed to for the most part keep the attention on me to a minimum, allowing me to eat the crap food and get some quick shut eye. It was only when I was trying to leave the Great Hall the Rose finally approached me, simply striding up to me and embracing me, and I could feel how badly she was shaking. Fearing another breakdown, I led her to the Dungeons to a classroom near First Year Potions. Instead of crying and worrying about me though, she proceeded to trash the room in a fit of rage, telling me in vivid detail what she was going to do to Gary if she ever saw him, his family, or any friends the rapist had. Some of those things I honestly doubted were possible without the use of magic, and even then, I was skeptical of the how's. She was barely calm enough to attend her class with Snape, which I just knew was going to set her off again.

Going back to the library, and Irma Pince was literal godsend, directing me to numerous tomes and scrolls covering history that I had passed over the previous night.

There was a tension in the air as we all watched Professor Quirrel Pace back and forth in front of the calls, appearing agitated,

"Today's lesson shall be different from what I had originally planned to cover today, but recent events have made me believe that it would be in all of your best interests to cover this topic. I am, of course, talking about the incident with Mister Hessnold, and how he bound several of his classmates in oaths and rituals to serve him. You should note that those subjects are not covered by the Hogwarts curriculum, and it was only Garolds time at Durmstrang that allowed him the necessary teachings to do what he did"

Quirrel honestly seemed pissed at the situation with Gary, though that might be because he is worried about the extra attention this will bring to the school, and by extension him. It makes more sense than him actually caring what crimes a fifth year Ravenclaw commits.

"One of the greatest threats to a Wizard, you will find, is in fact another Wizard. They, like you, will have the capacity to utilize magic and knowledge of spells that can bring about fates worse than death. Complete Death of Personality, being trapped in your body as it is used as a puppet for the whims of others, bound by oaths that dictate your every action, being caught in an unstable temporal anomaly, trapped in a single moment for all eternity. Having one's soul forcefully separated from one's body, and then binding it to a location. The near endless means of torture, particularly ones inspired by ancient myths such as the Promethean Curse, or the Curse of Tantalus. These are just a few of the horrors wrought on others by vengeful mages. We shall mainly focus on the first three, as they are the most relevant."

Those were things that were possible here! How the hell was this place only T3 danger rating? If the reason is because It's the start of canon, I call Bullshit as that obviously doesn't mean shit here!

"Death of Personality, a common effect of many darker Binding Rituals, is when one's whole identity, the very core of who you are, is irrevocably changed or erased and replaced by something distinctly not you. This new being has your name, your face, all your memories, and yet they are not you. Luckily none of the victims of Mister Hessnold have undergone such a horrible thing, allowing hope of recovery."

Images suddenly appeared in front of the class, an Illusion most likely. We saw reports and experiments of such bindings, before and after photos, and detailed analyses of the effects they had. Somehow completely understandable at just a glance.

"A more common method of controlling another is using a spell that separates a mages consciousness from their body, allowing the one who casts the spell to control it like a doll or puppet, completely removing the victim's ability to defend choose or act. This type of effect, while powerful, is highly noticeable as only masters of the art are capable of the mimicry required to pass as another. Their appearance is often compared to Dementor Victims, what with the dead look and general inability to react to anything."

The images changed to show a group of people, looking blankly ahead, appearing dead to the world. They followed basic instructions, allowing them to be used but incapable of higher thought. Then it changed again to show two figures, chatting amicably until one of them suddenly takes their want and blows the others' head off. They then move on like nothing ever happened.

"Finally, there are Oaths. Oaths themselves are not inherently evil, and in fact they are a staple of our culture. When one makes an oath they bind their very soul to their word, making one accountable for whatever has been agreed upon. This is the method that Mister Hessnold used, though not for the intended purpose. Originally, this type of spell was used to facilitate deals and formalize alliances, and it was considered a show of faith to offer an Oath to prove one's reliability and truthfulness. But that is not to say that such a method is foolproof or cannot be abused. Like Garold did, it is possible to entrap someone in an Oath of Servitude, making those he enslaved bound to his will. They are capable of resisting, of fighting back, but cannot act against direct orders. While this is quite possibly one of the most difficult types of bindings to detect, they are also the easiest to get rid of. It is possible to sever an oath between two people, though in doing so alert the other of betrayal."

The images now showed groups of people being bound together in the name of supporting each other, families binding themselves together, allies that would last generations being formed. Then others being made to do innumerable tasks, an endless number of dangerous work that they had to do. It wasn't pretty.

"It is for this reason that Miss Anders, Mister Locklen, Miss Kylin, Miss Applebye, Mister Sherfield, Mister Liu, Miss Tameria, Miss Evergreen, and Miss Mistwood, those that have been found bound to Mister Hessnold, are capable of recovering."

Here he pauses, taking a moment to slowly turn my way and stare directly at me.

"All thanks of course, to Mister Potter for realizing what Mister Hessnold was doing and putting a stop to it all. You truly have done this school a service, Harry Poter."

I think I need an adult. I did not want the attention of the snake fetishist, or his surprisingly competent meat puppet.

AN: The total Crimes that have been noted and their punishments for Gary are as follows

Assault on 8 Muggleborn - 8 Days detained in Ministry Holding Cell
Assault on 4 Low-Born - 4 Weeks detained in Ministry Holding Cell

Rape of 5 Muggleborn - 5 Weeks in Azkaban
Rape of 2 Low-Born - 2 Months in Azkaban
Rape of 1 Half-Blood - 6 Months in Azkaban

Illegal Enslavement (Type 3) of 6 Muggleborn at Hogwarts - 6 Years in Azkaban
Illegal Enslavement (Type 3) of 2 Low-Born at Hogwarts - 10 Years in Azkaban
Illegal Enslavement (Type 3) of 1 Lesser Pure-Blood at Hogwarts - Dementors Kiss
Attempted Enslavement (Type 3) of 1 Half-Blood Heir at Hogwarts - Dementors Kiss

Total = 5 Weeks 1 Day in Ministry Holding cell, 16 Years 11 Months in Azkaban, 2 Dementors Kiss.

These are not all of his crimes, just the ones most easily attributed to him from a quick questioning.

Yes, people can get away with brutally beating Muggleborns. If the enslavement happened outside of Hogwarts, the punishment for the Muggleborns will be erased and the Low-Borns

Also Rape of any sort is a Crime, but most of the time, unless it against a Pure-Blood or a Half-Blood of influence, it will probably get swept under the rug.

Type 1 Enslavements are also instantly punishable by instant Dementors Kiss if caught, no matter who it is against.
Type 2 Enslavements punishments are five times Type 3 Enslavements
Enslavements against Heirs of a Magical House is Punishable by Dementors Kiss.

Hogwarts has its own Laws and Punishments for most crimes, ones that are equal across the board, but if any Crime that warrants a Dementors Kiss is committed, then custody is transferred to DMLE.
