Shattered Innocence Ch. 30

The Carmines are in the car on their way to the company.

Carmilla looks over at her daughters who are in the middle of discussing some wedding plans of the oldest.

The matriarch's eyes wander down to Emily's belly that seems to be getting bigger every day.

"Emily," she calls out and her youngest looks up at her. "Are you sure that you want to come along with us today? After we get to the office you can head home to rest if you want."

The seraphim, who has finally ditched the false horns, looks up in thought. "That does sound appealing. But I kinda want to get up and around while I still can. Besides! Dr. Drums said that exercise is good for me and the baby at this stage no matter how little it may be."

Carmilla smiles. "Very well, Emily," her phone goes off and seeing the number, the woman immediately enters business mode. "Yes, Tooth… He's what!?... On his way right now!?... Just prepare one of the rooms! It's time I sign that godforsaken contract," and hang up while releasing a sigh. Even though she's technically immortal, the Overlord feels like she's been aging a lot lately.

"Mom?" Emily calls out.

Looking over, the matriarch finds her daughters worrying about their mother.

"I'm fine, girls. Just a stressful business partner."

Odette fiddles with her glasses, "If this guy is so troublesome, then why do business?"

"I'm doing it for you. All of you," she tells them truthfully. "During the last Extermination I almost lost and Clara. I will do anything to prevent a repeat of that incident. Even if it means giving into that bastard," Carmilla clenches her fists.

Emily reaches for her mother's shoulder. "Even if you are trying to do something good you shouldn't have to compromise who you are for it."

The matriarch smiles at her youngest. "What did I do to deserve you?" then sighs. "But I have to do this. I will not knowingly put any of you in danger. Never again."

.oOo.

The car stops in front of the building and all but one Carmine left the vehicle.

Clara leans out of the car. "Hey, Mom. I'm going to ride with Sy to park the car. Is that all right?"

"Is this going to be another scarf thing?" the seraphim asked innocently.

"That wasn't the plan…" the puffy-haired sister glances to the front at her fiancé. "…initially."

Carmilla pinches the bridge of her nose. "I wish you two didn't teach your sister that," she then looks back at her oldest with a glare. "Very well. Just don't take too long."

"Thanks, Mom!" with that, Clara closed the door, and the vehicle took off.

The Arms Dealer lets out a sigh. "If you two ever find a partner, promise me you will not be as sexually active as your sister."

Odette looks up at her mother. "The only real use I find for the activity is procreation and given that I am a Sinner that is pointless."

Emily subconsciously rubs her stomach. "I'm not sure I'll ever be ready for anything like that," she is then pulled into a hug by her mother.

"I'm sorry for upsetting you again, Emily."

"It's fine, Mom. It's just something I have to work through."

They then pull away and the Matriarch tells the angel. "Odette and I have some things to prepare before the client comes by. You head to my office and wait for me. Okay?"

Emily nods. "Okay, Mom."

.oOo.

Carmilla and Odette were going over the preparations when the assistant walked up to them.

"I have the numbers you requested, Ms. Carmine," the imp passes them to his boss.

"Thank you, Tooth," the Arms Dealer takes a glance at the papers. "These should help finalizing the deal. Just inform me when, Mr. Phobos arrives."

Tooth raised a brow in confusion. "But he's already here?"

"What!?"

"He said that you were expecting him to wait in your offi—" he finds his airways getting cut off by the Overlord's hand.

"And you took him for his word!? Wait!" she drops him. "My office?"

The imp nods.

The two Carmines look at one another. "Emily!"

.oOo.

After arriving at her mother's office, Emily at first waited in one of the seats for a while. She soon decided to be productive and starts tidying up her mother's desk.

With her back turned, she hears the door open and closed.

"Ms. Carmine isn't here for the moment but will be back…"

"I remember you."

Emily freezes at the voice.

You smell nice.

It can't possibly hurt that bad.

Do something! Anything!

Why won't you react!?

You're no fun.

She's useless now. Just toss her in the trash where she belongs.

Slowly, the seraphim turned to see an incubus with a worried Hellhound woman behind him.

The incubus starts walking towards her and she immediately falls down and starts crawling backwards. All the way up until her back meets a wall, Emily flashes back to every moment of pain and suffering she went through in her first couple weeks of hell.

"Show me your wings again," the incubus leans down. "I loved those things. Especially the way they snapped."

The angel covered her belly while turning away and with tears streaming down her face, she screams. "Please! Don't hurt us!"

The man raised a brow. "Us?" he then looks down and finally notices the angel's state. "Ugh! Great!" he lifts his foot. "Can't have a bastard running around."

Emily closes eyes tight, preparing for the worst. She then hears a thud quickly followed by another.

Daring to see what happened, the New Carmine cracks open an eye to see the man laying limp on the ground with papers surrounding him and standing over him is the Hellhound with a broken suitcase.

"Sh(bleep)!" the hellhound lets out. "He's going to kill me if he doesn't fire me."

The doors then burst open. "Emily!?" Carmilla shouts as she sees the state her daughter is in and runs up to comfort her, paying no mind that Phobos is unconscious. "What happened?" she hugs her youngest.

Crying into her mother's shoulder, Emily manages to get out. "It's him, it's him. He was, he was the one…"

The matriarch backs away. "Emily. What are you trying to tell me?"

The seraphim tightens her eyes, swallows the lump in her throat, and finally says. "He's the father."

Carmilla's eyes widen, turns to passed out Phobos, and glares. "Odette! Get your sister out of here!"

Not needing to be told twice, the spectacled Carmine assists Emily up and leads her out of the office.

The Arms Dealer shoots a glare at the hellhound causing her to flinch. She then turns to her potential business partner.
