DenMac: Overdue

"M-maybe this wasn't a good idea," Chio said. "W-we should go."

"Come on, don't worry about it," Mathias said. "Everything will be fine. I'll be right beside you."

When Mathias heard that Chio had never learned how to ride a bike, he decided that he was going to teach him. It was evening, and there weren't many people on the streets. Chio wouldn't have many witnesses to see him falling over and over again.

"I-I'm not a fan of falling," Chio said.

"Well, I can't guarantee that you won't," Mathias said. "But I'll be here to help you up. Come on. Put your feet on the peddles, and let's start."

Chio placed his right foot on the peddle first, but when he lifted his left foot, he felt the bike sway beneath him, and he planted both feet on the ground again.

"It's okay," Mathias said. "I won't let you fall."

"You just said that you can't guarantee that I won't!" Chio snapped. He hated how shrill his voice sounded.

"Well, that comes later, when you're pedalling on your own. For now, I'm going to push you along so you get used to it."

Chio swallowed. He gripped the handlebar as he placed his feet on the peddles again.

"That's it," Mathias said. "Now, move your feet. I'm going to start pushing. Just keep your feet on the peddles, okay?"

Chio nodded, and Mathias started to push. The peddles moved on their own, but Chio proceeded to step nonetheless. He slowly started to calm down.

But then something changed. The peddles' movement felt different, and he couldn't sense Mathias next to him anymore. The handlebar wobbled before he fell to the ground.

"Are you alright?" Mathias asked as he approached.

"I don't like this," Chio said. "I don't like this at all."

"Let's try that again. And I promise, when we're done, I'll buy you some ice-cream."

Chio huffed. The only reason why he was doing this was because Mathias enjoyed cycling, and he mentioned wanting to go on a cycling date. But Chio didn't think that it would happen anytime soon.
