Well, here we are! Episode 12. Now before we begin, I do have to say, this episode will act as a breather between the pre and post-merge. It's not a recap or anything, don't worry, but it won't go too much into the future plots of the people currently competing…. This is still somewhat important reading, but it's not overly. Episode 13 is on its way though.
I'm going to admit, just like with episode 11, I'm a little worried I messed something up, but honestly, I think I'm ready to post it. If I find any more mistakes, I'll edit them out over time probably.
Alright then, I'd say, without any further ado, let's start this!
The episode begins on a boat, as Chris sits with a smirk. "Last time on Total Drama Elemental Islands! Our final ten competed in a five-part competition of Olympic sports for a reward in the next challenge!" The scenes shown include the running challenge between Carol and Katrina and the Archery between Jemma and Susan. "And it was only for the reward too, because BOTH teams were going to the elimination ceremony!"
"Lauren put together a plan with Jake and Morgan to surprisingly set Rory and Susan back together. Sounds dumb, right? Well, turns out she was also working on flipping Carol to her side! Getting Rory and Susan working with each other… surprisingly succeeded, bringing back the alliance!" Footage of Lauren discussing 'Operation Cupid' with Jake and Morgan, before talking with Carol, alongside Jake talking to Rory and then Susan and Rory smiling at each other is shown.
"Meanwhile on the Lions, Gary and Katrina continued to fight for control of the team, leaving the rest of the team to decide who was more threatening." The footage shown includes Gary complaining to Jemma alongside Katrina and him arguing. "Jemma and Bob also finally decided to finally have a chat about Bob being a turncoat earlier in the game and both of them apologised to each other." Jemma and Bob's conversation is shown.
"In the end, the Tigers won the reward and Katrina and Rory were both voted out of the game!" The two contestant's disappointed expressions are shown. "Leaving several friendships in shambles!" Bob's annoyance at Xavier and Susan's anger at Carol are shown.
"Now that we're in the merge, who will go next? What will be the result of all the drama created? And who will eventually come out on top? Find out… not this time on TOTAL! DRAMA! ELEMENTAL ISLANDS! You're gonna have to wait for the next episode for those questions to be answered! But we should have something else only slightly less interesting for you all today."
"So uh Chris…" a voice asks, causing the camera to zoom out and reveal Morgan. "Why am I here with you?"
"All in good time dude, all in good time," Chris smirks as the camera fades to the intro.
Opening Guitar Riff:
The intro starts with the rock theme that is known so well to Total Drama fans, before a camera pops out from under some water, a microphone comes from the side towards some ground that hasn't been touched by raging fire around it. A light turns on from the side of a cave, illuminating it and a second camera pops from the bottom of a chunk of land floating, with a gopher holding on to it.
Dear Mom and Dad I'm doin' fine,
The camera zooms past the dock speeding through the elimination area and the cabins before it goes towards one end of the island.
You guys are on my mind.
The camera goes past Chris arguing with Don before it zooms into the sky showing all five islands and zooms to Water Island.
You asked me what I wanted to be
On Water Island, Hannah and Tegan, both in Scuba gear, attack each other angrily. Meanwhile Jake and Nadia find a yellow rock before Nadia turns around and angrily yells at the two fighting above.
and now I think the answer is plain to see,
Inside a cave on Earth Island, Myron, Megan and Carol walk inside, with Carol holding up a comic book and excitedly commenting on it to a not interested Myron and Megan, who look at each other worried about the cave.
I wanna be famous.
Susan writes in a small notebook furiously while making a small smile before she looks at the camera and smiles and waves at the camera.
I wanna live close to the sun,
Inside the confessional, Lauren looks around excited before she looks at the camera and makes a determined smile to the camera.
Go pack your bags, 'cause I've already won,
On Air Island, Bob punches a punching bag clean off what was being hanged, while Jemma watches and writes something on her notepad before Scuba Bear comes out of the bushes and prepares to attack them, which scares both of them.
Everything to prove, nothing in my way
Xavier is seen showing Gary a few costumes, first a cowboy costume where he's swinging his hat on his finger, then a 1930s mobster suit and making finger guns and finally a rapper costume where he pretends to rap. Gary isn't paying attention and instead makes a small smirk
I'll get there one day.
Fire Island appears with Richard standing there bored before he looks at the camera
Cause, I wanna be famous!
Morgan then runs over and pushes him over so he can appear in the camera lens. An angry Rory then runs over and helps up Richard, who just sighs and shrugs.
Na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na!
Back at the dock of Base camp, Alfred looks at the camera, a smug smile plastered on his face before he starts bossing around a couple of interns, including Katrina who was chatting with them before. Katrina and the interns get annoyed and push him into the water, the resulting splash of water covers the camera and the time changes to night.
I wanna be, I wanna be, I wanna be famous (Na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na!)
Rory and Susan look at each other lovingly before they lean forwards, only for Chris to get up and blast his megaphone, making them jump back in surprise, Susan puts her hand on her heart in shock and Rory holds his head, as the camera zooms out to the rest of the campers whistling the closing notes of the song.
I wanna be, I wanna be, I wanna be famous
The episode fades back to the boat pulling up at another dock. Chris and Morgan quickly step off before Chef pokes his head out from the front.
"I'll take it around the back," the co-host says, nonchalantly.
"Cool!" Chris responds before turning to the camera as the boat is driven away. "We're here at Playa De Losers… or the rebuilt version at least," disdain is heard in Chris' voice. "Because today, we thought we'd do something different and have a talk with all the losers and then… well they don't need to know, right?"
Crickets chirp for a few seconds before Chris adds in. "Well okay, not overly different to what we usually do when we're not in an actual competition episode, but we didn't have the budget for an aftermath show this season so we made up for it by doing an after-the-dock-of-shame episode with the pre-mergers."
"And I'm guessing that's why you got me back?" Morgan adds, a smirk evident. "Well, aside from my devilishly good charms."
"The first reason only," Chris quickly says, causing Morgan's face to drop. Chris then waves the perfect guy off. "Now go meet up with someone so we can interview you later."
"Uh, alright." Morgan then quickly runs off.
"If you've been watching previous episodes of Total Drama Elemental Islands, you may remember that there have been small parts filmed with each of the campers eliminated getting interviewed. Those have only been short things tacked on to the end of the episode, today we're doing a full trip here to chat with our current batch of ten losers… and to get them to try their hands at some cool challenges!"
Chris then walks up the steps to the resort confidently, before opening it and seeing Don, smirking at him. Chris' face drops.
"Don…." Chris starts through gritted teeth.
"Hello, Chris. I'm just here for a bit to see if you've killed the campers."
"No… and I never have."
"Got pretty darn close before, though, didn't you?"
"But he got saved… didn't he?"
"You were gonna continue the challenge after Xavier drowned," Don dully responds with a glare. "Look, production wants me to appear more so the transition to me as a host is smoother to the audience. We're gonna have a whole thing in the finale where it's revealed you're training me to take over."
"What!?" Chris complains. "I didn't agree to this!"
"You don't have a choice here though. You're done after the season," Don notes. "It's not like you can do anything about it either. If you try anything, we'll just point out the drowning thing."
Chris glares at Don but says. "Let. Me. Lead. Then."
"Deal," Don smirks. "You are teaching me after all."
"Whatever," Chris rolls his eyes. He then closes his eyes before thinking to himself.
'Crap, now I need to get to the rich kid while Don's not looking, how the heck am I gonna do that?'
Chris' smile comes back, though a lot faker. "Then how about I teach you then," he says through gritted teeth.
Don nods at Chris before the two walk off to go talk to the losers.
"Who're we going to see first?" Don questions the host.
"I mean, there's ten of them," Chris shrugs. "It's mostly random here, we'll just find them as they're doing stuff."
"Nice plan," Don dully responds.
"It actually is though," Chris shrugs back. "If we call them all there, we won't catch them off guard, and if we don't catch them off guard, then we won't be able to find out the interesting things they've been hiding from us the whole time."
"That's… actually fair," Don nods. "Immoral, but fair." On that note, the two hosts walk off to find the first camper.
Elsewhere, in a small, secluded area, Megan stands around on a phone, talking to someone.
"How's it going, Dad?" She questions. While the other side of the conversation isn't heard, the Band Geek responds, "I'm doing pretty good, I've actually managed to get some more friends! Myron even turned up here! Though, I guess you probably know that by this point since he's uh… not around there.." She chuckles.
After more indistinct noises from the other side of the call, she says, "Yeah? Alright…? A few moments later, her eyes go wide.
"YOU'RE WHAT!?" She quickly shakes her head. "No, no sorry I'm not upset, Mrs Carter is great, I was just uh… not expecting it. I mean, I'm gonna have to get used to the two of you marrying each other… and that's a wild thing to drop on me over a phone call." A moment later she pauses. "Hang on a sec, does Myron know?" After more talking, she responds. "He doesn't know? I'll… I'll tell him if you want?"
"Mrs Carter wants to say it tonight after her work day? Alright, I-I won't make it awkward between us or anything, if there's one person my age I'll never be awkward around it's him. But yeah, she can tell him, that's completely fine." Megan sits down after hearing this. "Sorry, I'm happy for it, I don't want to sound ungrateful or anything, this is just weird to hear something like this."
After a few moments, the Band Geek chuckles, "It's alright, you told me, didn't you? Anyways, like you said, you figured it out after Myron and I went in for the show. I'm with you the whole way. At least you didn't drop it on us the day of the wedding or anything."
The scene fades to later on as Megan pauses for a few moments, before saying, "Well, you mentioned that you were thinking about getting back into music, have you gotten inspiration yet?" More talking is heard before she says, "Ooh, cool! I'll have a look at it when I get back home, you won't have to hire anyone to show you a demo of what it's like." The realisation then hits her, "Wait, there's no tuba involved, right?"
She then chuckles. "Cool!" After more talking, she says, "Alright, you've gotta go now? Okay! I'll see you later Dad! Have a great day!" With that, she hangs up the phone and turns around, suddenly, the gravity of what was discussed hits her as she looks with a surprised expression on her face. "… wow."
Right after she mutters this, Chris and Don turn the corner with the camera crew, before walking over to the Band Geek.
Chris notes her shocked expression before joking, "I know, I have that effect on people."
Megan quickly shakes her head, before quickly starting, "Oh, I uh, h-hey Chris, how're you doing?"
"Fine, I guess?" Chris responds. "But you're not the one asking the questions here, we are."
"O-oh, al-alright then?" Megan then looks at the camera crew, causing her eyes to go wide. "Did you uh… did you hear the call?"
"Yup!" Chris responds. Megan's eyes dart around.
"How much?"
"Enough for you to be embarrassed."
"W-well…." Megan's face goes beet red.
"It's alright," Don gives the girl a comforting smile, before giving Chris an annoyed glare. "We're not going to be with you for long."
"O-okay!" The girl stands up straight, eyes wide in fear, but her blush starts to disappear.
Don decides to start the questioning, "Well, what would you say your biggest mistake in the game would be?"
Megan pauses to think. "I probably could have afforded to be a bit more uh… assertive I guess? I dunno, I think maybe the reason I got targeted by Gary was that I was the quiet one and the best one to get out of the way early or something?"
"Really?" Don looks surprised.
"I-I dunno. Everyone else might have either been an easier target or not able to be targeted and they needed Bob, so I'm guessing they got me out 'cause I could have tried to slip away or something."
"That seems a bit full of yourself," Don notes. "Still, what makes you think that?" Megan's face turns red again.
"I didn't mean to sound like that… didn't Katrina say that about me? Also that I had a bunch of friends? I think she said I had like… five votes in my pocket for the merge. Me, Myron, Bob, Jemma and Tegan."
"She did?"
"Yeah," Megan nods. "I uh… I watched the cuts of the episode given to us, Katrina mentioned it a couple of times in the cave challenge I went home in that I was the one she wanted to send home to stop me from teaming up with Myron and having votes from five people…. So yeah, that's my guess on what happened."
Don pauses for a moment, before facepalming, "Oh yeah, I think I remember this now, sorry for doubting you, Megan."
"It's alright," Megan quickly looks around. "So do you have any other questions?"
"If you had a chance to play again, would you take it?" Chris suddenly cuts in.
Megan pauses to think a moment before saying, "Well, I honestly think I would? I mean, another go at the show would probably be fun, especially if I can get more friends there… I don't even care about winning that much."
"It's a million bucks though," Chris raises an eyebrow. "Anyways, why'd you even sign up if you weren't thinking about the money?"
"I wanted friends and Total Drama would have forced me to make some," Megan shrugs. "Sorry if that's too simple but uhh, that's w-what the plan was?"
"Well I can understand that," Don nods. In the background, Chris simply shakes his head. Chris then steps in front of Don and says.
"I've gotta ask… what's the deal with you and Myron?" Megan frowns at Chris' question.
"Well, I uh… I moved a lot when I was younger and when Dad and I finally settled permanently, Myron was the only real friend I was able to get…."
"Anything… romantic?"
Megan's eyes widen as she says, "That'd be like dating my brother! Ew!" She then pauses, before whispering, "In more ways than one now…," to herself.
"Seriously?" Don questions Chris, annoyed. "Look Megan, who do you want to win the most?"
"Jemma," Megan quickly says. "She was so nice to me while I was competing so the least I could do is support her!"
"Fair enough," Don nods. "Final question then. Let's suppose you did get a second chance in the game that you said you wanted earlier. What would be the first thing you do?"
Megan pauses, before asking. "Can I uhh… can I say the first two things?"
Don shrugs, "Sure."
"Firstly, I'd get back into an alliance with Jemma, I mean, she and I are friends, and everyone knows about that, so not reforming it would be uh… dumb I guess. Secondly, I'd tell Bob that I forgive him for voting me out. He was in a no-win situation and I forgave him when I saw what the deal was that led up to voting me off… I just hope he doesn't beat himself up about it."
"Thank you for that Megan," Don nods. "We'll see you later then."
"Uhh… sure."
Chris then leads Don away. "Don't just reveal it to them," The main host chastises.
"Wait what?" Megan questions.
"I didn't," Don shakes his head. "In fact, you're making it more suspicious to her!"
Chris, not having a response, says back, "Whatever, we still have everyone else to get to." The two pause before Chris adds, "And I think I have an idea where we're going next!"
The scene changes to the duo walking towards the pool, "Here we go!" Chris says. "Best spot to find a few of them!"
Chris was correct in his assumption, as Hannah, Tegan and Nadia congregate around the pool. Nadia is laying on a chair near the pool with sunglasses on while Tegan and Hannah stay in the pool itself. As the cameras reach her, Nadia takes a pair of sunglasses she's wearing off and admits.
"Y'know, as much as staying in the game would have been nice… yeah, staying here is pretty good too, I can accept that."
"I don't know why you wanted to get in the pool here," the scene zooms out to Tegan, growling at her rival. "I was here first."
"Maybe pools feel nice," Hannah grumbles, angrily.
"Yeeeeep, there it is," Nadia dejectedly responds before covering her ears.
"I'm just trying to have a fun time here," Hannah begins. "Why do you have to get at me like that?"
"Because you do it to me, all the time!" Tegan screams. "This is revenge!"
Nadia's eye twitches as she pushes down harder on her ears.
Chris and Don look at each other, before allowing the argument to play out.
"Oh yeah?" Hannah calls out, before splashing some water in Tegan's face.
"You did not just do that!" The complainer calls out, before splashing some water back in the Hipster's face.
"You're going down!" The two girls then begin to splash at each other. Yelling in anger as they do so.
"Wow, is this how they always acted?" Don questions Chris.
"From what I remember, yeah." Chris shrugs. "Made them being on the same team all the more fun!"
The girls begin to scream at each other in anger before swimming over and grappling with each other, beginning to physically fight.
"Should we break it up?" Don asks.
"Nah," Chris shrugs. "Give it a few seconds."
A few seconds pass before Don says. "I'm gonna get the interns to break it up now."
"Three," Chris begins to count down. "Two. One. Now!"
As if on cue, both girls split apart for a moment. Out of nowhere, a pool chair lands in between the two girls, causing a large splash and for both girls to flinch and fully swim away from each other. Looking over, Nadia takes deep breaths, in a bowling pose before saying, "I swear if the two of you don't shut up, I will not purposefully miss next time."
Tegan and Hannah pause, before looking at each other with fear in their eyes before slowly coughing and turning around.
"Yeah, you're not worth it," Tegan quickly says.
"Right back at ya," Hannah turns her head away.
"So…," Don starts, clearing his throat.
"Oh yeah, Don and Chris." Nadia looks awkwardly at the duo. The two girls in the pool react with similar surprise.
Don looks at the girls before saying. "Nadia, you are aware that you're gonna have to fish that chair out later, right?"
Nadia scratches the back of her neck, saying, "Oh uh… fair enough."
"Anyways, you three," Chris begins. "We're here to do a check-up on the losers. See how they're doing."
"Well, I got out early," Hannah shrugs. "I'm not all too upset." She chuckles, "Being the first boot makes you well known. Being in the merge, also makes you well-known. Third or fourth is good enough to not be remembered by as many people."
"And that's a good thing?" Tegan questions. "I hate how early I went home. Some stupid rats made the team send me home and it wasn't even my fault."
"I was like, one of the first ones done," Nadia reminds her. "And yeah, it was your fault. Seriously, your refusal to get past the rats was… kind of sad in all honesty. At least Carol was obviously traumatised by her one, and she still mustered enough courage to get through when you didn't. You deserve your elimination, sorry not sorry."
"Oh yeah!" Tegan begins, before pausing, not knowing what to say. "W-well you totally deserved to go home too!"
"Great going," Hannah rolls her eyes. "Here comes another chair in three… two….-"
"As for me," Nadia cuts the hipster off. "I know what the votes against me were now. Lauren voted for me as revenge for voting for her the previous episode, and then she got Jake on her side because of her convincing him it was Rory who was the third vote."
"Thanks for the recap, it's not like we all watched it already," Hannah glares at her.
"I didn't!" Tegan responds, arms folded.
"Seriously, I'm willing to give you a pass for now," Hannah glares at her angrily.
"I'm willing to give you a pass for now," Tegan says back in a mocking tone. Hannah looks mad but simply smirks.
"Note to self, remember to catfish Tegan after the season finishes," loud enough for her rival to hear.
"HEY! I HEARD THAT!" Tegan yells out.
"You were supposed to," Hannah responds.
A butler takes that opportunity to walk in, saying, "Miss Renner, you have a call when you are available." Hannah's eyes go wide for a second, but she goes back to smirking.
"Well, I'd love to mess with you more, but I've got to go," she then stands up before strutting away, grabbing a towel.
"What a jerk!" Tegan complains. "She's the worst! I mean, seriously, what is her problem? I can't believe-."
"You're getting real close here," Nadia starts, beginning to stand up.
"Whatever," Tegan frowns, dropping the argument.
"Okay, so… who are you going for?" Don questions them.
"Jake," Nadia shrugs. "I guess if you want me to give a second person… Xavier? Jake's my best friend there and Xavier's going out with him. No duh."
"Jemma for me," Tegan shrugs. "She's the only person there I really respect still."
"You may be able to respect people if you actually give them a chance," Nadia responds with a shrug.
"And you might get a tan if you stop moving around to have a go at me," Tegan glares back.
"You know what?" Nadia responds. "At least that insult had effort put into it. I have to congratulate you on that much for once."
"Yeah! That's what I thought!" Tegan smirks. A second later she continues, "Hang on a sec." Nadia giggles to herself in response.
"So yeah, you're all enjoying your time here?" Don questions the pair.
"Mostly, yeah," Nadia shrugs. "I'm gonna try and get a tan now though, so yeah."
"I don't want to answer any more questions either," Tegan shrugs. "Buzz off!"
Chris and Don shrug before walking away. As they do, Nadia slowly makes her way towards the pool to fish out the chair.
Okay," Chris begins. "I guess that's it for those three."
"We didn't really ask all that many questions," Don notes. "Before you say it, I get that it's more so they can appear on camera, but we couldn't have asked maybe… one more?"
"Eh," Chris shrugs. "It's not too big of a deal."
Don rolls his eyes before saying, "Whatever, sure." A few moments later, Don asks, "So you just walk around and hope you find them?"
"There's about five or six places I think they're usually gonna bunch around, we already covered one of the spots and we found three of them. It's fine."
"Or you're just being lazy," The producer's liaison whispers to himself before rolling his eyes.
"And there's another person!" Chris yells out. "Looks like it's Katrina."
Not having heard this, Katrina smirks as she puts a photo of Chris on the top of a pile of various Chris memorabilia. "I'm a woman of my word, probably would have been better doing it at night… but eh." She then pulls a lighter and lights it, preparing to light the pile on fire.
Her eyes go wide as she puts the fire out and facepalms. "Oh yeah, I need something like gas… and probably some way to stop it from getting out of control and burning the place down… geez, that was close."
"Katrina…," Chris starts, walking over nervously. "What did you just say?"
Katrina turns around in confusion as Don questions his co-host with a simple, "Chris?"
"A-and why do you have so many photos of me piled up?"
Katrina's eyes widen at the two's sudden appearance. Quickly looking at the lighter in her hand, she gasps before quickly putting it behind her back.
"I… was so impressed with you that I wanted to gather all the photos of you in the resort. Y-yeah!" She then quickly, though unsubtly throws the unlit lighter into a bush. "Please don't catch on fire," she whispers to herself.
Chris quickly runs over and picks up one photo. "AH!" He quickly covers it up. "Not me at the Gemmies!" He then quickly goes through the pile. "My headshots! And the photos that some weirdo edited to have a reticle over them!"
"So a literal headshot," Don notes. "Anyways, why do you have those photos if they're so weird to you?"
"They're still photos of me!" Chris defends himself. "Any photo of me is worth keeping as long as possible." The co-host rolls his eyes, before shrugging.
Katrina looks around before saying, "So uh… what do you want me for?"
"We're checking in on the eliminated campers and interviewing them," Don notes, however, he is unable to continue as he is cut off.
"Let me ask first!" Chris pushes past the other host as he glowers. "How's it feel being this close to a lawsuit!"
Katrina stares stone-faced back at Chris before saying, "Pretty good all things considered."
"Seriously?" Don questions Chris. "Look, Katrina. How do you feel having lost so close to the merge now that you've had a couple of days to let it sink in?"
"Do you want me to be mad?" The Former Intern questions. "I mean… I do sort of miss Otis and Norville, and I'm mad at whatever you guys are gonna make them do, but I can't stop it here right this second… can I?"
"That's… honestly fair," Don shrugs. "Well, considering the situation, Xavier turning on you and Gary getting the votes to send you home, I thought you'd be affected more…."
Katrina pauses at this before sighing. "Okay, that is pretty annoying, but Xavier messed that up, and now he has to face the consequences. Oh, you and Bob are safe from an elimination each? Cool, Jake's going next then, I guaren-fucking-tee it."
"That's… direct to say the least."
"He tried," Katrina shrugs. "I watched the footage of the elimination and the confessionals around it. He tried to be smart, but it's gonna backfire, I was honestly probably gonna get the Lions together to vote out the Tigers when we hit the merge, I even would have ignored my thing against Jemma for a couple of votes. Xavier keeping Gary destroyed any chance of that actually happening, so it's pretty much all because of him."
"It seems like you're really angry at Xavier," Don notes. "Is he the one you want to win the least?"
"I want him to win more than Gary, but that's about it," Katrina reveals. "And before you ask, with Jemma, she's far more justified in voting me off. I got her stupid alliance eliminated so her trying to get me out and feeling forced to align with Gary makes sense, as much as I hate to say it." She then pauses. "So for the Lions, my preferred winning order is probably Bob, Jemma, Xavier and Gary in dead last. It'd be hard deciding if I would have wanted Gary or Alfred to win more."
"What was that?" A British voice in the background calls out.
"How did he hear that?" Katrina questions.
As the trio look confused at the situation for a few moments, Don decides to continue. "Well, as for the Tigers? What do you think about their chances?"
"I made it clear on my opinion of Jake when I talked about Xavier's 'plan'. Carol was doing well until she voted Rory off so I'm not sure about her, Susan's too big of an obvious threat to win and Lauren… is playing to win, so I see her winning the most. The one I want to win out of them though? Probably Carol, depending on her next moves."
"Fair enough," Don nods.
"Anyways, I'm outta here, I don't want to give you any more of my time of day." Katrina then pushes past Chris and Don before walking away.
"Well, okay then," Don notes.
"Okay, okay good, they're all safe!" Chris yells out, relief on his face while holding one of the pictures. "Good, my perfect face is not hurt!"
"Get a hold of yourself, Chris," Don rolls his eyes before turning to the other host.
"She was about to set them on fire!" Chris responds. "I think it's valid to feel relief that they're safe."
"Whatever," Don shrugs. "So that's Katrina, and we've got half of them left to ask."
"Yeah," Chris begins to say before listing them off. "Alfred, Morgan, Richard, Rory and Myron…." A beat happens before Chris realises something, "Wow, that's weird, we talked with all the girls before any of the guys." Don pauses at Chris' comment.
"That's… actually yeah that's a pretty weird coincidence," the two pause, thinking for a few moments before someone behind them coughs.
"Huh?" The two turn around to see Alfred and Richard standing there. Chris and Don both jump back with shock on their faces.
"You were looking for us?" Alfred questions, before turning to Richard, "Wow, that 'sneaking up on people' thing really is useful, isn't it?"
"Yes, yes it is."
"Well uh… yeah!" Don quickly calms down before talking to the two guys. "So… we're here to ask a few questions."
"Why'd you say that like we're getting arrested or something?" Richard questions.
"Was that… a quip?" Alfred questions him. "That… feels so wrong coming from you."
"Don't expect many more of them then," Richard shrugs.
"Alfred?" Don questions him.
"Yes, it is me you're talking to. The Alfred Jeeves Harriet Stockton, you peasant."
"Peasant?" Don looks confused and somewhat offended.
Chris stands up, abandoning the photos before he thinks to himself, 'Oh crap, it's him. I need to get him separate so I can get the number for Blaineley!'
"Alfred," Don stops Chris' thoughts. "I'm sorry if this comes across as rude or anything, but I have to know… how does it feel-."
"-To be the first eliminated," Alfred finishes the question. "It's not like I've been asked that question fifty million times up to this point already or anything." He folds his arms. "Well, I'm not impressed to be clear… but ultimately I should probably not think about suing the show for now… that's for after I've returned home."
"Oh…," Don frowns.
"However… as I just said, I do not want to have to think about something like that right now… it's a chance for me to relax… stressing too much does cause wrinkles after all, and I can't have wrinkles at eighteen!"
Don looks with a raised eyebrow at the contestant before turning to Richard. "And how about you? What's your opinion on getting eliminated early?"
"I… was originally mad," Richard begins. "However… perhaps this was a blessing in disguise."
Chris raises an eyebrow at this, which Richard notices and continues, "I am now allowed to get research on the rest of the contestants, while also not allowing myself to be noticed as easily if I am to return. If I do compete again, then I will not be competing blind, and as such I will make sure I am as prepared as I possibly can be."
"Well it's good to see you're taking this well," Don nods back.
"Who do you want out the most?" Chris suddenly cuts Don off.
"I don't hold grudges," Richard simply notes.
"You have to have."
"It seems as if you are trying to direct me to say something negative about the rest of the contestants," The boring guy glares. "As someone who works for the season now as the host of the post-elimination interviews… I believe I should not disclose information like that if I was to hold such an opinion. It would simply not be fair for a host to show bias."
"Well, maybe you can work with us and give us something to use?"
Chris's comment causes Richard's expression to change to annoyance before turning around. "I believe my time here is done," with that, Richard walks away, leaving Alfred to look back at Chris and Don.
"So…," Alfred awkwardly comments. "Are we… uh, are we done?"
"Uh, yeah," Don shrugs before Alfred quickly turns around and walks off. Don then takes this opportunity to turn to Chris saying, "Smooth."
"He wasn't giving us anything," Chris says. "Anyways, what should I have asked him? What's your biggest regret? He's just gonna say something boring, if I can lead him into actually growing a personality, then that makes for better TV!"
"You know what, sure, believe whatever you want to believe, but, if you want to do that, at least make it subtle."
Chris rolls his eyes before tapping his foot. "Are you gonna be spending your whole time here getting mad at me for my way of hosting the season?"
"You know what?" Don says, "Let's just keep going, get the remaining few out of the way."
"Good," Chris nods before continuing, "Looks like we're down to three of them."
"I've gotta ask though," Don begins. "Hypothetically, if we find two of them and can't find the other one. I suppose we just move on or something?"
"Give it a few hours," Chris shrugs. "We've got time to look about, and anyways, it'll get around that we're here, so they'll probably find us. Especially since one of them is the guy I literally brought here."
"Good point," Don nods along. "Looks like we're gonna have to look around for them anyways." After a moment he asks, "Well, if Morgan, Myron and Rory were hanging about, where would they be?"
"No idea," Chris admits with a shrug. "What? Was I supposed to look at every little thing they did? Anyways, didn't Rory and Morgan not like each other?"
"Aaaaand I was asking that rhetorically."
The scene cuts to later as Chris and Don continue to look around.
"Well, we've looked nearly everywhere outside," Don comments before asking, "Are there any other places we can look at or are we going into the playa?"
"Going in," Chris thinks out loud before realising, "but I think I have an idea where we can find at least… one of them."
With that, the scene transitions to Myron, straining as the camera focuses on his face.
"You can do it!" Rory calls out, a smile on his face.
"I dunno if I can!" Myron argues back.
"Trust yourself," Rory nods. "It's not as hard as you think!" The scene zooms out to show Myron lifting an extremely light weight. "See!" Rory smiles, "You're doing great!"
"I don't feel like it," Myron puts the weight down before rubbing the back of his neck.
"Everyone starts somewhere," Morgan comments as he walks in. "You don't start perfect… well, most people don't."
"Morgan?" Rory questions, unsure.
"DUDE!" Myron high-fives his friend. "It's great to see you!"
"Aren't you an intern?" Rory asks the perfect guy. "Did you get fired?"
"What? No?" Morgan responds. Rory simply shrugs back at him.
"What's going on then?" Myron asks him, "Is Chris getting us back for a challenge or something?"
"Well… you could say something like that," Rory and Myron quickly look at Morgan with wide eyes before the perfect guy stutters and says, "C-Chris and Don are here to do an interview with everyone voted off, and cause some members of the Tigers thought I was too threatening, I was brought along here to do the interview as well." Morgan makes sure to give a pointed glare at Rory for his vote to send him home. Rory rolls his eyes in response.
"He should be in here!" Chris' voice suddenly cuts off any other conversation. The two host's then walk in as Chris says, "Would you look at that? All three of 'em were here!"
"Yeah, but you didn't expect that did you?" Don responds back.
"I made that perfectly clear," Chris responds neutrally. "What part of 'at least one of them,' did you not understand?" Don, not having a rebuttal, nods in understanding.
"So… we're getting interviewed?" Rory questions.
Chris and Don quickly look at each other before Morgan admits, "I mean… they asked me why I was back…."
"We weren't trying to keep this a secret," Don admits.
"Yeah," Chris shrugs, "Honestly it's just weird a few of you knew this after everyone before didn't know, but I'll let it slide, we were expecting it."
"So what questions do you have?" Rory asks.
"Well, we have a few of them," Chris begins. "We'll start with you since you're so on board with knowing the questions."
"Uh, alright I guess?" Rory shrugs before adding, "Shoot."
"We… don't have guns?" Don questions before Chris quickly cuts him off and asks.
"Before you signed up, how likely would you have thought you were going to win the game?"
"I… honestly didn't know," Rory admits. "I generally get along with people so I could see a chance that I'd get far, but winning? I guess I just didn't really think about that."
"Alright then…," Chris groans. "When did you think your game went wrong?"
"Ironically, it was good for my mental health, but reconnecting with Susan got me on Lauren's radar, right? Still, I wouldn't change that for a thing, I needed to fix things, especially after Jake had that chat with me."
Morgan, knowing the full situation, barely contains a laugh.
Myron looks awkwardly around before saying, "You… haven't watched the latest episode have you?"
"No? Why?"
"Keep it that way," Myron quickly adds in, glancing over at Morgan. "Let's just say Susan misses you and her reaction was very ugly."
"I was there to see it? I know she was gutted."
"You don't want to know the plan used to vote you off," Myron reveals, deadpanning.
"Okay, fair enough."
"One more question for you," Chris notes. "What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?"
"What?" Rory questions. "Why would I know about that?"
"They can't all be winners," Chris shrugs, throwing the cue card away.
Myron whispers to Morgan, "African or European?" Morgan simply looks confused at both random questions, while Myron chuckles to himself. [1]
"Okay, let's keep going," Don quickly cuts in. "Myron, how about you?"
"Alright then," the nerd shrugs. "What do you have?"
"Well," Don begins. "Before you left, you were very heavily campaigning to send Susan packing… do you still dislike her as much as you previously did?"
Myron looks over at Rory before he quickly sighs. "Look, I can see that it wasn't as bad as I assumed, rewatching everything from the outside, but that doesn't mean that everything is all sunshine and rainbows. The fact that she even assumed it was alright initially is bad and it'll take time before we can get back to a neutral relationship." He then shakes his head, "Who would have guessed, the person with the most neutral relationship with her is the one that never forgave her." He then turns to Rory, "Sorry dude."
"That's fine," Rory nods back. "Different people have different opinions."
"Okay," Chris nods. "In that case… who's winning in your opinion?"
"Hmm," Myron begins to think. "Probably someone like Carol… she's not Bob which means she's not strong enough to be a target for that reason, and she's nice enough that she's got the votes to keep herself in and have the majority… Bob, Xavier, Susan, Lauren, Jake. Really the only people that haven't talked with her are Jemma and Gary, and one of them is basically public enemy number one right now, so that doesn't matter much."
"Interesting prediction," Don nods.
"Yeah," Chris adds. "Anyways, what's the deal with you and Megan? Couple? Siblings?"
"You already asked Megan that?" Don whispers.
"Yeah, but it's interesting seeing the other side of the deal!" Chris smirks before turning to Myron. "So… what is it?"
"What?" Myron questions. "We're friends. We've known each other since we were like, nine. I don't have any romantic feelings for her and she has none for me… at least, I don't think she does."
Chris nods before opening his mouth. Myron quickly cuts him off, saying, "Are you just going to keep asking me weird questions? Where's the 'Would you do Total Drama again?' and by the way, the answer's yes to that, but I'm not gonna cry about my loss."
Chris and Don look at each other as Myron's rant finishes.
"That… was your last question," Don admits.
"Oh…."
"I… guess that leaves Morgan," Don comments with a shrug.
"Great," Morgan smirks, walking in front with his usual swagger.
"What is your worst trait?" Chris questions.
"I have none!" Morgan says back. "People like to say my 'ego' but it's just self-confidence, at least I have the confidence to not hate or judge myself harshly."
"That's Morgan for you," Myron chuckles.
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"Nothing."
Chris dryly cuts back in with the next question. "Anyways, Morgan. Is there anyone you want to win?"
"Myself preferably."
Don and Chris look at each other awkwardly before Don questions. "And out of the people currently competing?"
"Eh, I don't care, after Myron left, any care about who wins left… I guess Lauren though? She voted for me, but hey, I can work with her at least if we have shared goals."
Chris nods back before asking the perfect guy, "Who do you want out next?"
"Carol." Morgan admits quickly. "She robbed me of a spot in the game! If she didn't get Susan to talk the others into it, I'd still be there and we probably wouldn't have gone on a losing streak later on!"
"Because you would have stopped it?" Rory rolls his eyes. "Yes because going on and on about how great you are would have let you stop the paintballs in mid-air, right?"
"I would have dodged them and shot back!"
"Okay, so we're running out of time here," Chris notes, "one more question for you Morgan. Would you compete if given the chance to again?"
"Obviously I would. The folks at home still haven't seen enough of me." Morgan flexes his muscles.
"Yep, saw that coming." Chris then turns around, with Don also doing so. "Alright, we're out."
"Hang on a sec," Myron questions, "before you go, can I ask... what's going on with what Morgan said-," Myron is cut off by a high-pitched yelp of fear from Morgan, who quickly covers his mouth with wide eyes. Myron quickly understands and changes course, moving the hand off his mouth. "Something about uh… a different catering service tonight?"
Don and Chris look confused, before the latter responds, "Why would we do something like that?"
"Oh, so you lied to us?" Myron quickly adds, Rory grimaces in the background.
"Huh…?" Morgan quickly says before saying, "O-oh yeah, I lied about that."
"Good job," Chris nods back. "You're learning!" He then says, "Oh yeah, and you three, come outside in a few minutes, we've got a special announcement for the lot of you." On that note, he and Don walk away. A few seconds later, Morgan sighs with relief.
"Sorry," Myron quickly says.
"All good bro," Morgan sighs with relief, before quickly straightening up. "I could have used my silver tongue to get myself out of the punishment anyways, but I didn't want to get you in trouble as well, so I let you get all of us off the hook!"
"Whatever you say," Myron rolls his eyes with a knowing smirk.
The scene then flashes to later as nine of the ex-contestants watch on as Chris and Don stand around. Don does a quick headcount.
"We're missing one," Don whispers to Chris.
"Wait, what?" Chris questions.
"We have nine of them," Don notes. "But Hannah's missing."
"Wait," Chris looks confused at Don before saying, "Isn't her name Jemma or something?"
"What?" Don reacts with similar confusion. "Jemma's literally still in?"
"I mean, we could have people share names in the season?" Chris shrugs.
"But wouldn't that mean they go by different nicknames?"
"What's so wrong with calling both of them Hannah?"
"Look whatever," Don shakes his head, "We need to get her here too." Both men then hear speaking over their earpieces.
"Uh, sirs… I think we've found her." Chris then turns on a video call to see what their workers see.
The camera crew walk around a corner to the private phone station before the camera picks up Hannah.
"Tell me if anyone messes with you, alright?" Hannah asks. "They'll have to go through me first." She punches her other, open palm.
Her face then relaxes before she says. "Alright? You're down to get that new Chilled Gorillas album in a few days? I'll pay you back when I get back home."
"She's gonna love us," Chris whispers into the phone before saying, "Alright, let's let her get a bit more in and then walk in with me."
"Okay, Otto?" Hannah questions who's calling her. "You need to go? Alright, I get it. Love you, you're the best brother ever, bye!" before the call finishes and she looks up. Her eyes go wide as she sees the cameras. "How… much did you see?" Her voice is shaky, dripping with fear.
"Enough," Chris says from the phone, a smirk on his face. "We're just here to say we have an announcement for all the losers…. How's Otto?"
"WHATEVER!" Hannah yells out, a mix of anger and worry in her voice as she stomps past.
Eventually, the scene changes to a far angrier Hannah with the rest of the ten losers as Don turns to the main host. "Anyways, are we ready to do the challenge now?"
"Yeah, we should be." Chris then turns to the ten losers as he comments, "Well… it's safe to say you ten bombed… I mean, seriously? Pre-merge?"
"You don't have to insult us about it," Tegan folds her arms. Nobody responds to her, causing the complainer to look confused, "Wait… what?"
"Why are you so confused?" Rory questions her.
"I dunno… I just thought someone was gonna say something stupid to me." Everyone turns to Hannah, who simply has her arms folded, staring right at Chris and Don.
"As I was saying." Chris glares at the contestants. "We would have kept mocking you… but y'know what? We decided to give one of you another chance at the money."
Everyone's eyes widen in shock.
"If you prove that you want it enough at least."
"This just got interesting," Richard whispers to himself.
"Today, we'll have several challenges to determine who the best of the losers is. Every challenge, one or two of you will be out until we're down to the final contestant!"
Rory and Myron nod in realisation due to what Morgan told them earlier as the tattletale in question looks away from Chris quickly, guilt on his face.
"So…," Nadia begins, "pardon me for being pedantic, but what exactly is planned for the winner of the challenge?" Excitement is on her face, "I just want to be exactly sure."
"Good question!" Don smiles at the contestant. "If you win this challenge, you'll either have the choice to rejoin the game… or a second reward we're not going to tell you all until after the challenge itself."
Morgan, Alfred, Tegan and Megan seem the most excited out of the ten.
"Oh yeah, and ex-campers," Chris begins, stepping in front of Don. "To get the maximum effect of you all doing another challenge." Chris snaps his fingers as a helicopter flies over, with the confessional attached to a rope and a massive yoga mat below it. It then drops the confessional to have it land on the ground, with the yoga mat cushioning the fall.
"We brought in an old friend!"
Confessional:
Alfred:
"I forgot how bad this thing smelt," the rich boy groans in annoyance.
Hannah:
"You saw NOTHING, okay?" She points at the screen threateningly. "That was all CGI! O-or animatronics!" It's clear from her face that fear and anger are the things mainly driving her right now.
Megan:
"W-well uh… it's like I said before when I was getting interviewed, I kinda want to rejoin the game actually," Megan shrugs. "I left way too early last time and I want to see Jemma again. The two of us can get Bob and Carol on our side too, again, like I said, I don't really hold a grudge against him."
Morgan:
"I knew about the challenge, I knew about the returning reward, but I can't get a word out of them about what the other reward could be." The perfect guy smirks before saying, "Still… I'm going to be just fine returning to the game as a contestant… with all the drama going on, everyone's gonna want an extra vote… right?"
Confessionals End:
"Question," Myron puts his hand up, to which Don nods at him. "Can we team up with people?"
"Yeah, sure," Chris comments off-handedly as everyone perks up at this knowledge. "We're only gonna have one winner though, so you'll have to fight each other if you make it that far together."
"Eh, works for me," Myron shrugs.
"In that case," Don begins to explain. "I'd say it's time for you to get these teams in order before we start the challenge."
Chris looks bored before saying, "You have two minutes." Before the pair walk away.
Megan and Myron quickly high-five before Myron asks, "Should we get other people to help us out too?"
Megan nods back, "You pick one, I pick the other, deal?"
"Deal."
Myron quickly looks around before finding his desired teammate. "Rory!" Myron runs over to the jock. "You wanna do the challenge with me and Megan?"
Rory looks over surprised before nodding. "Sure dude!"
Myron then looks over to Morgan, saying, "Sorry about this, dude."
"All good," Morgan smirks. "I'm happy flying solo today. It'll prove how great I am if I win the challenge without any help!"
"Sweet," Myron nods before he and Rory walk off.
Elsewhere, Megan makes her way over to Tegan. "You, me, Myron, and I guess Rory as the final four here?"
Tegan nods. "I thought you'd never ask." The two girls then walk over to Myron and Rory.
Elsewhere, Alfred quickly walks over to Hannah and Richard, before saying. "So… you two probably know me the best here."
"Yeah?" Hannah questions him.
"Well, considering you didn't vote me off at the first elimination… and Richard and I uh… talk I guess."
"Go on," Richard nods, knowing exactly what Alfred wants to say.
"Truce?" Alfred says to Hannah and Richard.
"Indeed," Richard nods back. Hannah rolls her eyes but adds.
Hannah grumbles out a "Obviously not with y-," before cutting herself off, starting to think. "Teaming up with the first two boots is smart, I guess. We're more likely to go under the radar. She nods, "Deal."
Confessional:
Hannah:
"You know what? No, I'm not going to be angry! I'm going to be my normal self… but I'm playing hard! The rest of them are going down!"
Confessional Ends:
Tegan then turns to Hannah before yelling to her group, "Looks like Hannah's teaming up with Alfred and Richard!"
"Well, there goes the element of surprise," Hannah rolls her eyes.
Katrina shrugs at both groups. "Eh, whatever."
Nadia looks around at the two groups, before frowning.
Confessional:
Nadia:
"So Rory, Megan, Tegan and Myron are a group. So are Alfred, Richard and Hannah. It doesn't look like either group is going to be willing to accept another member as well. This means if I want to team up with someone at this point it's either going to be Mr self-obsessed, or Katrina, who I can't get a proper read on and I feel like is gonna throw me under the bus in some way…. Yeah, I'm playing by myself this time."
Katrina:
"I have a plan for these challenges, and I need to be by myself for this one."
Confessional Ends:
"Okay!" Chris calls out. "Let's get ready for the challenge then!"
The ten former contestants, alongside Chris and Don, travel to a massive platform standing over a pool of water. The girls, Hannah, Megan, Tegan, Nadia and Katrina stand on one side while the guys, Alfred, Richard, Morgan, Myron and Rory stand on the other.
"W-wow," Alfred grunts as he holds up the stick. "Th-these are pretty heavy?"
Everyone else looks at the rich boy in confusion, holding up their weapons easily. This is stopped as Chris walks forward with a loudspeaker in his hands.
"In the first challenge, you guys are going to have to battle it out to try and knock each other off this platform. Whoever falls first is out of the challenge! Then we can go to part two!"
"Okay, seems pretty easy," Nadia notes.
"Yeah," Tegan nods. "We can just get Alfred out."
"HEY!" The rich boy indignantly calls.
"Okay, so we're defending him," Richard whispers to both himself and Hannah.
"Eh, fine."
"Okay, get ready to start in THREE! TWO! ONE! GO!" Chris yells out as everyone prepares to fight.
Megan, Myron, Tegan and Rory begin to walk towards Alfred, who looks around worried. Hannah and Richard begin to look nervous before walking in front of him, brandishing their sticks.
"So uh…," Nadia says watching the scene before turning to Morgan. "You just want to watch this thing play out?"
"It's not worth it to take out someone like you anyways," Morgan smirks. "I'm too perfect to muddy my hands, and I'd prefer a shot at the big leagues."
Nadia glares before snarking, "And which one of us is an intern right now?"
Suddenly, a voice calls out. "HEY!" Everyone turns around to see Katrina. "I honestly do not give a single crap about this challenge so uh… bye guys." She then leans backwards, falling off the platform, into the water.
A pause occurs as all the contestants, Chris and Don look around awkwardly.
"Uh…," Don starts. "Okay, so Katrina's out of the challenge I guess."
Confessional:
Katrina:
"That was my strategy… I planned to lose. I genuinely do not care about this second chance thing in all honesty. Anyways, Carol was right, I'm giving Chris exactly what he wants by competing, so yeah… see ya Total Drama! I will not miss you."
Confessional Ends:
Katrina walks over to a bench and sits down on it. Don and Chris walk over before the former starts to talk to her.
"You waited for all of you to get up there?"
"If I tried to bail beforehand you would have forced me up there anyways," Katrina reasons. Chris nods along.
"Yeah, I would have."
"So… do we keep going?" Nadia questions everyone.
"Oh uh… no!" Chris yells over the megaphone. "Katrina is out… I guess you can all come down now."
Confessional:
Alfred:
"THEN WHAT'S THE POINT OF GOING UP!?" The rich kid screams.
Confessional Ends:
After the other nine remaining former contestants make their way down as Chris says, "Well, I guess it's time for challenge two then! Follow us to the next location!"
As they all walk off, Richard and Hannah walk over to Alfred as the former says, "You're lucky to still be competing, they looked ready to take you out."
"I could have fought them all off with one hand behind my back!" Alfred puts one of his hands behind him for emphasis. "And if not… guess who's at the top of the lawsuit!"
Confessional:
Hannah:
"Here's a fun drinking game! Take a shot whenever Alfred brings up that lawsuit he has planned." The hipster then shrugs, "Anyways, I would have just abandoned Alfred if they actually, properly went after him, but hey, works out just as well this way, I still have the allies."
Confessional Ends:
As Hannah walks out, Richard pops his head out of the bush, a glare on his face.
Confessional:
Richard:
"I do not do this to everyone, don't worry, I have standards and checking confessionals is not part of my strategy most of the time. It's just that Hannah's mood changed rather fast after how angry she was when the challenge was announced… I had suspicions and so I acted on them and checked on her. Evidently, that was for the best."
Confessional Ends:
The scene zooms out to Chris, smirking as he says, "Wow! There's trouble already for the groups! Who's gonna win? Who's losing out on the return opportunity next? Find out, after the break!"
And that's part 1 completed!
So yes, there will be no elimination in this episode… sorry about that. I want to give the eliminated campers some screen time and it was frankly easier to put it here. Still, we have the challenge to go through! Tell me in the reviews if you want to predict who's going to win this challenge based on part one lol.
So we've now seen how each of the contestants have done since their respective eliminations and even the start of another challenge. Who will win? And what is that secret other reward Chris mentioned? Well, you'll have to find out when part 2 is released in a few days' time!
Just to remind you all, I still have the poll on my Fanfiction profile asking if I should try to make EI canon to the 2023 seasons. You don't have to vote if you really don't want to, and I'm honestly leaning towards no, especially after watching the season itself. (which I'll get more into later on in the Authors' note) (I've put tags up on A03, but I'm fine changing it again), but I would like to hear other people's opinions as well.
Also, I think it's fair to say this now since this is the first episode to come out since the reveal of Chris' voice getting changed. The plot about Don taking over from Chris as host of Total Drama and Chris's response to that has been around since before the new season was announced. This was not meant to tie into Terry McGurrin (the voice actor for Don for some extra awkward irony) replacing Christian Potenza as Chris.
This plotline is not meant to be an attack on Terry. I am aware that this is probably obvious, but I want to specify that anyways because I would feel awful if someone thought something like that.
Oh yeah, and the new season has actually aired and I had the pleasure of watching it! It's a great season, I desperately need to get around to rewatching it! Zee, Scary Girl, Damien, MK, Julia and Bowie were probably my favourites out of the cast, though I only really dislike three people in the whole cast.
Anyways, on that note, I'll leave you with the elimination order and then get back to you all in a few days when part 2 is released! See ya!
[1]: Gee, I wonder if you can tell I watched that movie recently? It's not like it's obvious or anything.
