Welcome back to Elemental Crisis Book II, and more specifically, the finale of Book II. Last time, the battle with Joker ended, but not in the way one would have expected. Joker knew she was screwed if Malefor found out she failed to secure the Shadow element from Batwoman, so when Batwoman tried to save her from falling out of a window, Joker cut the shirt holding her up and fell to her death a la Jack Napier in 1989. But still, that's one of Malefor's Dark Knights off of the board, only seven to go. But enough chewing the fat, we've got a story to wrap up. So let's see how this book ends...
(Our story resumes not with the League, but instead with Malefor, observing the situation from his throne in the conquered Dragon Realms via some kind of scrying mist.)
Malefor: (Seeing the results of Joker's suicide) Never send a clown to do a warrior's job.
(With that, Malefor dispels the mist and flares his wings in dominance)
Malefor: TO ME, MY DARK KNIGHTS!
(Heeding their master's call, the remaining Dark Knights materialize: Red Death, Myriad, General Luthor, Malefic J'onnz, Painkiller, Black Siren, and Dark Archer)
Malefor: Joker has failed in her task. But graciously, she's done me the favor of eliminating herself.
General Luthor: About time the clown does something right.
Malefor: However, this now means that our enemies are now in possession of two Elements, Fire and Shadow. We must stop them before they can recover anymore.
Red Death: Let me handle this, Master. They won't get past me twice.
Malefor: The latter of those statements is right, because I will not allow you to fail me twice, Thawne. You will act again when I command it. Am I understood?
Red Death: (Begrudgingly) Yes, My Lord.
Malefor: Good. (To Myriad) Myriad, I am placing you in charge of the operations from this point on.
Myriad: A wise decision, Lord Malefor. The odds of failure are minimal.
Malefor: I would rather they be zero. So you won't be working alone. (To General Luthor and Malefic J'onnz) Luthor, Malefic, you will assist Myriad in whatever they may plan.
Malefic J'onnz: Gladly.
General Luthor: Of course.
Malefor: Now, go. Do not fail me, my Dark Knights!
(And as Malefor's eyes glow their evil yellow, the light gives way to darkness as we see Cynder and Batwoman in the Batcave's dojo, getting one last glimpse as to the status of Batwoman's control over the Shadow element)
Cynder: You've progressed in leaps and bounds since last time we tried this, Ryan.
Batwoman: Because you were right. There was something holding me back. All this time, I've been worried about failing the legacy Kate left behind. And needless to say, seeing her in Joker form didn't help. But I just had to tell myself that I hadn't. And sure enough, it worked out.
Cynder: Excellent. Because with what remains, you're going to need every bit of Elemental power you've got.
(Just as that line is said, Spyro enters the dojo.)
Spyro: Cynder? Ryan? It's time for us to head out. Barry's already got a lock on another Element.
Batwoman: There's one thing I need to do before we go.
(And with that, the scene immediately cuts to the main room of the Batcave, where Batwoman is talking with Batwing)
Batwing: You're serious?
Batwoman: There's nobody else I could trust.
Batwing: You're leaving Gotham in my protection alone?
Batwoman: At least until this Crisis is over. Once Malefor's been bested, I'll be back. But I can't leave Gotham unguarded. Hence, you're the interim Dark Knight. Just don't be surprised if we call on you at some point.
Batwing: (With a nod of affirmation) I won't let you down.
Batwoman: I know you won't, Luke.
Batwing: Best of luck, Ryan.
(With a nod of response, Batwoman leaves Batwing to defend Gotham while she rejoins the League aboard the Waverider)
Cynder: (Seeing Batwoman has arrived) Everything sorted?
Batwoman: Yeah.
Spyro: Alright then. Barry, where are we headed next?
Flash: If these readings are right, our next destination, National City.
Supergirl: It'll be good to be back home again. I'll ring up Brainy, and tell him to expect company.
Martian Manhunter: While she's at that, I'll put some calls in to the D.E.O. If anyone can track these missing Elements, it's them.
Superman: Good plans all around.
Cynder: Then we'd best be off.
Spyro: Agreed.
Flash: Alright then. Let's go.
(And with that, the Waverider takes off, leaving Gotham City behind and heading towards National City, as our tale concludes)
The Story Continues in Elemental Crisis Book III: Of Earth And Sky
And that looks like a good place to wrap up Book II of the Elemental Crisis. I will let you all know this in advance, Book III is going to be longer than the first two books, notably because Supergirl is where we were introduced to three members of the League: Supergirl herself, as well as Superman and Martian Manhunter. I have a feeling you can guess what that means. But for more specifics, tune in next week as we crack open Book III! Same time... same channel!
