Over the past few weeks Perseus and Apollo had traveled across the East Coast of the United States. Every night Perseus would read his books Apollo had provided him to learn the mortal language and the history of the world. Perseus was only well versed in Atlantean history, but this new mortal history fascinated him. This included what regular mortals would consider "myths", Perseus particularly enjoyed the stories of his demigod brethren and the heroes of Homer's works.
Apollo taught Perseus how to use his new bow, which he began to quickly excel at. They did not hunt their food though, Apollo considered that to be his sister's domain, and thus they bought food from mortals or ate godly food like Ambrosia and Nectar that Apollo provided. As a god of civilisation, Apollo taught Perseus the ways of the world and that of the gods. Perseus' expectations for how this group would function were completely shattered, he had thought it would be more like Artemis' hunters. Instead Apollo liked to spend his time with mortals in towns and cities instead of the wild. Perseus tried to use this massive difference to justify a name change for the group, but Apollo wouldn't budge.
"What about, the Fellowship of the Sun?"
"What's wrong with wolves?"
"Doesn't your sister have wolves in her hunt?"
"Yeah but so what?"
"I'd have thought you'd want to differentiate your group from hers as much as possible?"
Apollo held his hands up.
"Alright we'll go with that name, but I'm still going to call you and the new members when we get them my wolves."
Perseus sighed, he was starting to get fed up with some of Apollo's antics. Almost reaching the point where he was seriously thinking why Apollo was responsible enough to look after him, perhaps he could look after himself.
One night Apollo fell asleep quite soundly, and Perseus thought it was finally time to abandon him. Normally this would be a foolish decision, but they were now close to Rhode Island, and Perseus was missing Rhodos badly. Crossing the border from Connecticut, Perseus reached Rhode Island, heading towards the sea. However, something wasn't quite right. He had left civilisation to try and throw Apollo off his trail by entering the forest. It was awfully quiet, too quiet.
Perseus stood still and looked around, there was nothing.
Sigh
It was nothing.
Taking another step forward, the breaking a branch could be heard from behind him.
Immediately turning around and reaching for his ring, Perseus quickly found himself surrounded by a bunch of teenage girls with bows, arrows drawn and pointed directly at his head.
"What art thee doing in this forest, boy?"
This was said by what was presumably the leader of the group, she was tall for a teenage girl with brown eyes and copper skin.
"My name is Perseus, I am just passing through to meet a friend."
"Thou cannot go further, mine own mistress's camp is ahead."
Perseus then realised that this must be the Hunters of Artemis.
"What is your name, I am a servant of Apollo, I meant no harm and did not know you were camping here."
She had a look of disgust when he said this, and then replied:
"Mine own name is Zoe Nightshade, and any servant of Apollo is not a friend of milady."
Perseus sighed.
"Forgive me for trespassing then, may I leave?"
"Nay, thee cannot leave, we shall take thee to milady."
The Hunters had tied Perseus' hands with roped and confiscated his backpack, but luckily they did not notice the ring on his finger as magical. They led him to their camp, where a 12 year old girl with silver eyes and auburn hair sat by the fire. When she saw the group arrive she stood up.
"Who is this boy Zoe?"
"Milady, this boy was heading towards our camp, he claims to be a servant of Apollo."
Zoe dropped Perseus' backpack on the ground, noticing the symbol on it, Artemis' eyes sharped like that of a predator.
"Well servant of Apollo, what practical jokes has he put you up to?"
"None Lady Artemis, I didn't even know you were here."
Zoe kicked Perseus in the stomach, causing him to wind and fall to the ground.
"Thou lies! What evil hast Apollo did prepare for milady!"
Artemis finally noticed the ring and signaled for Zoe to calm down.
"Perhaps he has not lied about knowing we were here, but maybe he has lied about something else."
Perseus' eyes widened.
"What is your name boy?"
"That boy hath said his name was Perseus."
That puzzled Artemis.
"The Destroyer, and the name of one of my ancient demigod brothers. Are you perhaps a demigod?"
Perseus decided that it was probably for the best that he keep as little information about himself from Artemis as possible.
"Do you want to know why I am here?"
She nodded.
"You may, but you must swear an oath on the Styx not to tell anyone else what I tell you."
"Why should milday swear on the river for a simple servant of Apollo?"
Perseus glared at Zoe.
"Because it doesn't concern a simple servant of Artemis."
Zoe punched him in the shoulder.
"I am nay simple servant boy. I hath killed many males such as yourself."
Perseus was not afraid of this threat, he was a god after all and she was only partially immortal.
This made Artemis chuckle.
"It's not everyday that a male is not afraid of Zoe Nightshade."
She gestured for her hunters to leave, and they left except Zoe.
"Why does she stay."
"She is my lieutenant. She can be trusted with secrets."
Perseus sighed.
"Very well. I am not lying, I am a servant of Apollo. However he does not know I am here, I swear by the Styx."
Thunder rumbled.
"Why are you here then, to visit... a family member perhaps?"
Perseus' eyes darkened.
"What are you suggesting Lady Artemis?"
"There are rumuors on Olympus that Lord Poseidon has adopted a child into his court. You say you're a servant of Apollo, but I couldn't help but notice your ring."
"Perhaps there is some truth to those rumuors. But nevertheless, I am a servant of Apollo."
"My father would very much like to know that an adopted child of Poseidon is running around. Why should I not tell him?"
Perseus reacted quickly, activating his trident, which broke his restraints, and pointing it directly at Artemis' throat. Zoe aimed her bow at his head.
"Stupid boy! Thee shall be turned into a jackolope for thy insolence!"
Artemis only laughed.
"I see now, it all makes sense, you're his son, that's why you're so secretive, and my brother is somehow involved."
All of a sudden a bright light appeared.
"PERSEUS WHAT ARE YOU DOING ALL THE WAY OUT... oh hi sis... wait... oh no."
"Can you tell your 'servant' to put his trident away younger brother?"
"Younger brother? I'm older!" Apollo pouted.
"I literally helped mother give birth to you."
Zoe groaned and facepalmed.
Perseus lowered his trident to allow the two of them to continue arguing.
"Are they always like this?"
"Those twins art at each moment like this, I can see thee too has grown unrestful of Apollo's uselessness?"
"That's the main reason I left him. He's really, really annoying."
"That is something we can concur on."
"Perseus! Why did you leave me!"
Finally, their argument had ended, however Perseus was not out of the woods yet as now he was the object of Apollo's ire once more.
"You're annoying Apollo, quite frankly you're a terrible guardian."
"I agree, why are you protecting Poseidon's demigod? Father will not be happy once he finds out."
Apollo's spine straightened out of fear upon hearing his sister's words, and immediately grabbed Perseus by the shoulders and started shaking him.
"Why did you tell her!"
"I didn't tell her anything she figured it out herself!"
"Bah! It's that stupid ring! I don't know why Poseidon gave it to you it's so obvious."
"Don't talk ill of my birthright Apollo!"
"So Lord Poseidon has also broken his oath? Very typical of males." Artemis sighed.
"Actually-" Apollo was cut off by Perseus.
"Yes, please don't tell your father. I'll perform a task for you if you wish Lady Artemis.
"No, Perseus! I'm your master not hers!" Apollo exclaimed.
Artemis smirked.
"Very well, I have a task for you. Complete it and Zoe and I will swear on the Styx to keep this a secret until it becomes... more public."
Perseus bowed.
"Thank you my lady, and I also apologise for threatening you earlier."
Artemis waved her hand away.
"Don't worry Perseus, I understand your urgency to keep your secret, especially one so... deadly."
Zoe couldn't believe her eyes. Her mistress had forgiven a boy that had threatened her life. But she understood the danger of potentially harming him, Poseidon was not one that you should anger foolishly.
"My hunters are hunting a monster in this forest, catch and kill it before they do and I'll swear to your secret. I'll also use it as an alibi for the rest of my hunters so that we can trick them into thinking I gave you the challenge so that you could live. Normally males that come across my hunt do not leave it alive or intact..."
"Come on sis, why can't you just let him go, besides why did you come here anyway... OH I KNOW WHY YOU UMPF..."
Perseus punched Apollo in the stomach.
Zoe laughed.
"I'm starting to like this boy a lot more."
Artemis smiled.
"Perhaps I could turn you into one of my hunters?"
Perseus nervously laughed.
"I'm grateful for the offer but I'll have to decline."
"Sis he came here for a booty call."
Perseus's jaw fell, he had been sold out.
"Milady what's a 'booty call'?"
Artemis' face darkened.
"Perseus. If you don't finish my task, I'll turn you into a girl."
"It's not like that, I'm not like him!"
"Go."
Perseus quickly ran off.
"Sigh... boys."
"We're pretty awesome aren't we?"
Zoe shot an arrow between Apollo's legs, scaring him.
"Apollo, tell me everything, now." Artemis threatened.
Apollo put his hands up.
"Look I can't say anything, I've sworn quite a number of oaths on this. I will say that as my servant he is the lieutenant for my new awesome ALL MALE group."
Zoe groaned upon hearing this.
"Allow me to guess, those boys dost not be virgins?"
Apollo pointed finger guns towards Zoe.
"That's right! Let me guess, you're interested in him? That would be totally cool, having both our lieutenants dating!"
Zoe looked like she was about to vomit.
"Apollo, what did I say about flirting with my hunters?"
"Fine, fine. Besides as I said earlier, he's already with someone."
"Who is the lady, if I may ask?" Zoe said.
"It's someone I've been trying to bag for centuries." Apollo said deflatedly.
Artemis smacked Apollo in the face.
"How many times do I have to tell you not to talk about women that way! Now tell us already who it is!"
"Ok I get it sis, chill out! It's Rhodos."
Artemis' suspicions were confirmed on why he had come this way.
"Rhodos? How did they end up together?"
"I'm not even sure myself, he never talks about it to me."
"Very wise of Perseus to not talketh to thee about his love life."
Apollo sighed and stared out in the direction Perseus had run off.
"What sort of monster are you hunting anyway?"
