Chapter 4

When Mac walked into his brother's house that afternoon he did not expect to be greeted by raised voices. He was grateful that Holly was here and helping him with Robin but he kept getting the feeling that Robin, at least, partly resented Holly for being here. These arguments were becoming more and more regular as of late.

He followed the voices and found them in the kitchen. "What is going on in here?"

"Uncle Mac, I don't need a babysitter," Robin told him bitterly. "And if you do want someone here then why can't it be Olin?"

"I am not trying to be a babysitter. I just want you to know I'm here if you need to talk." Holly didn't want to argue with Robin again. She is a young woman going through something unimaginable. Holly could still see that little girl that would come and visit them in Australia but had to keep in mind Robin had been through so much since then. She is far more mature than other kids her age and had already lived through loss, Filemina, Duke, now her parents. All Holly wanted to do was offer support not cause more anguish.

"What I need is you to sign those divorce papers so when my Mom and Dad come back they can legally be married." Then she turned and stormed out of the room.

Holly hung her head and sighed. This has been happening more and more. Little disagreements turn into arguing. Today was the first time Robin let it slip that she is still holding onto the belief her parents are alive though. That can't be healthy for her but Holly knew it wasn't her place to tell her that.

"I'm sorry about that. This can't be easy for you either."

She looked up, "Oh hello Mac. I'm the one who should be sorry about that. For the last week, all Robin and I seem to do is fight and I didn't even get to tell her I filed the divorce papers yesterday."

"I'll tell her in a little while. I'll give her a little time to calm down first though."

"You know, Mac, it's not healthy for Robin to go on believing her parents are still alive, that they are coming back."

"Well, I believe my brother is still alive. I just feel it, he's still out there. If Robin believes Anna survived as well then I'm with her." Mac turned away then added "Maybe we're hurting ourselves believing that but I don't care," before he left and went upstairs.

Mac wasn't going to get into an argument about this. Maybe he was wrong to feel this way, to believe his brother is still alive but he didn't care. The conversation he had with Sean earlier was still on his mind. Why were there WSB agents in Port Charles? And why were they pretending they weren't watching himself and probably Sean?

Mac stopped outside Robin's door. After a moment he knocked but Robin didn't answer. He put his hand on the door. "I know you're struggling, so am I. We'll get through this, Robin. Just don't shut me out."

She still hadn't answered so he added, "I'm here whenever you need anything. Oh and Robin, Holly filed the divorce papers."

"Thank you, Uncle Mac," came through the still closed door.

He smiled a little then Mac turned and went to his room, he knew she just needed a little time alone. Sean should be there soon, they needed to talk before Mac went to the club.

Mac was back downstairs and Holly was nowhere to be found when Sean knocked about half an hour later. "Hi, are we alone?"

"Robin is up in her room and Holly left a little while ago. They were arguing when I got here again. I'm not sure having Holly here is actually what's best for Robin."

"Robert asked her to stay," Sean reminded him.

"I don't think he knew it was going to be for an extended amount of time." Mac led Sean to the den, "What did you want to see me about?"

"Have you noticed anyone watching you?" Sean asked as he took a seat.

"Yeah, yesterday I noticed I had a tail. What's going on? You mentioned the WSB earlier." Mac asked as he took a seat at the desk.

"I'm not sure but of the two men I've seen watching me I know one. Agent Matthew Tucker, he is definitely WSB."

Sean had already told him he suspected they were in Port Charles. "So why is the WSB watching us?"

"I don't know. If I was to bet, it could mean they are watching us to see if anyone tries to contact either of us."

Mac leaned forwards, "Anyone? Even as in Robby or Anna?"

"Yeah, that was who came to mind first for me too. I know you haven't accepted that they are dead. Maybe there's something to that."

"All those pictures the WSB showed us proved was, that both of them had been on that boat that night, not that they were killed there."

Mac had a point, Sean had had those same thoughts several times himself since seeing those pictures. "I know, you're right," Sean agreed.

"Do you think either of them would come here?"

"I don't know. The WSB must think someone could show up here. Could it be one of them? If it's someone else they are waiting for then who is it and why would they want to see either of us?"

"Well if either of them does come here, I am going to help them any way I can. Something is going on and if there's something keeping them from coming home we need to do whatever we can to correct that and bring them home to their daughter."

"You and I are on the same page. I don't want to stay too long, I'm sure someone saw me come here. I'm gonna go ask Robin if she wants to come over this evening, maybe some time with Tiffany will help. Maybe she can talk to her a little about what's going on between her and Holly. Or just talk about stuff or not."

"She's angry and sad and feeling lost. Holly's here but her parents aren't. That's what's going on but yeah maybe talking to a woman she knows and trusts is a good idea."

"Alright, I'll go see if she wants to join us."

"Okay, if she'll listen can you tell her Holly signed the divorce papers Robby left her. I'm not sure what all they were arguing about but I think that was at least part of why Robin was upset with her today."

Sean nodded, he could see that being a reason. "She wants Holly to give Robert what he had asked of her. I can see Robin being very angry about that. Her parents got back together, she doesn't want Holly messing that up by claiming to be his wife when we all know Anna is."

Mac noticed Sean didn't use the past tense. Neither of them had wanted to believe what the WSB had told them back in the spring. Now for some reason they are here watching both of them. Could Sean be thinking his old friends are actually alive? "If Robin agrees, maybe see if she wants to spend the night. I think she could use a break from Holly."

"Yeah, alright." Then Sean left the den. He was very glad there was a group of people here that love that young woman. Maybe Robin needs to be reminded there are other people here she can turn to.

Anna knew if she was going to find any clues as to where Robert may have gone after leaving the hospital she would have to think like someone trying to stay hidden. Whether he believes he is the hunted or the hunter she felt he would be trying to stay out of sight. If she knew whether he believed he was on the run or still searching then it would be easier to know where to look. What she did know was he had been injured, they didn't know the extent of his injuries and he had left without anyone seeing him do it. He is relying on his training, on his instincts, Anna was certain of that.

At a couple of bars, she had gotten the feeling they may have seen him around, one guy had even said he'd been there about a month and a half ago. The man didn't have any more than that to offer but it was more than she'd had yesterday.

There were little communities closer to the larger ones. There were places that were feuding with other nearby places and there was even a military presence. She didn't know if it was government or drug trade militia so Anna didn't want to cross paths with them but she had still had to check them. In the more populated areas, she didn't feel as worried but thought if Robert was hiding he could be staying away from those places.

She had now been in the San Bernardo del Tuyu area for six days. So far the best lead she had was the fact Robert had been seen over a month ago. It was getting late so she started walking back to the little motel she was staying at when a familiar feeling caught her attention. Anna stopped and looked around. What is happening, could it be? Having come to a complete stop now, Anna turned around trying to see him. He is right here, somewhere close by she can feel him. After a moment Anna started moving again feeling very confused having not seen anyone anywhere in the area.

A young man standing out of sight moved slightly to watch where she went. "That's the one that's asking around about you. Jose says she even has a picture of you. Mama thinks it's a trap and those other men, the ones you say are after you, sent her here to trick you."

The man stood watching a beautiful dark-haired woman. They were hidden by a wall and a small tree and darkness helped block them from view. They watched as she walked away,. "Where is she staying?"

"I don't know. I don't follow people around." His older brother had pointed the woman out yesterday but neither of them had mentioned her to the man.

"Maybe you should." The man stepped out into the open again watching her disappear down the street.

"Why? Do you think you know her?"

The man stared after her, "Yeah, I think I know her. I think I just saw my wife."

Juan looked up at the man his family had taken in. The man his mother seemed to want to protect. Was that the woman that he seems to be searching for? The man didn't even know his own name but he had always insisted he was married and that he needed to find his wife. Had she found him or was his mother right and this is some kind of trap?

When Anna got back to her motel room she started taking her dinner out of the bag. She would force herself to eat in the evening, once she was back here because there were days she couldn't remember if she had eaten. This way, Anna knew she ate at least once a day.

As she started eating Anna couldn't help but wonder about what had happened while she was walking back here, before she'd stopped for dinner. That familiar comforting feeling had washed over her. She had felt at ease like she always does when she's around Robert. Could it be that he is close by? Had she sensed him even though she couldn't see him?

Anna pulled the pictures she had taken from the house out of her bag and started to place them on the table, often they were her dining companions. She grinned seeing Robert and Robin smiling back at her. They had all been so happy, spending Thanksgiving then Christmas together as a family. Then she placed the pictures of her and Robert on the table as well, so happy, so in love. Anna held the picture of Robert. Oh, how she missed him. "I'm coming for you, my darling."

After gazing at the picture for some time she put it down with the others and started eating again. When she's done she had better take a shower and get some sleep, she told herself. There's no stopping until she finds him.

...

In a small house, not uncommon for the area three men sat in uncomfortable silence. One lost in thought. The two younger men, watching him closely. They don't really know him, how can they when he apparently doesn't know himself. Their mother had taken the man in after finding him injured on the street. The younger brother wanted to talk to his older brother alone but didn't want to leave the man alone either. Why had he done that while they were out tonight? Why would he suddenly start following that woman?

After the man had gone into the bedroom for the night. Juan went and told his older brother, Jose, about the woman they had seen and what the man had said after following her for a short time. That he thought she could be his wife. "What do you expect me to do about it?" Jose asked when his brother was finally done speaking.

"I don't know. But what if he's right? What if that lady he wanted to follow really is his wife?"

"What do you mean he wanted to follow her?" Jose asked.

"When we went out for a walk this evening. I thought he was just heading over to look out at the water like he always does. We were walking and he suddenly changed direction. There was a dark-haired lady walking a little ways ahead of us. He said something I didn't hear then he started following her. When I saw who it was I pulled him behind a tree by a building so she wouldn't see us following her when she stopped and turned around."

"And that's when he said she could be his wife?" Jose asked.

"Well, we watched her for a bit then he said he thought she could be his wife after she started walking again, yeah."

"But he didn't know? So there is no reason to believe it. Just because he wears a ring doesn't mean he has to be married. He might be on the run from the law."

"What about those names he says in his sleep, Anna and Robin. Who are they then? Anna, he wants to find. Robin, it sounds like he wants to get home to them. That's a wedding ring he wears and I bet he is dreaming about a family he can't remember." Juan wasn't afraid to stand up to his big brother even if his brother is just repeating what their mother would have said if she'd been home.

"So what if he is. It's not like either one of us is going to find them for him. He doesn't even know who he is, so how can he know who his wife is? How do we know where he lives?"

Juan thought for a second, "He knows, he'll find his family even if we don't help."

Jose shook his head, with a slight grin. "You're sounding crazy. How is he going to find his family?"

"He will," Juan told his big brother confidently.

Jose smiled at his kid brother, "If you say so." Then they laughed a little. "Alright, time for bed. Mama hates it when you're still up when she gets home this late."

"Alright."

Jose watched his brother leave the room then he sat down and started wondering about what they were just talking about. What if there was someone the man knew that was here looking for him? Someone that knows who he is, that cares for him.

All the man had ever really said was that he felt someone was after him. They didn't know if he had done something against the law. He had been injured and showed up outside their home. He is very confused about how he got there and he doesn't seem to remember who he is or his life before this other than a few things he seems to be adamant about. He is married, he is sure of that. He was looking for his wife because she was in danger but has also said she is who will come for him.

This is a small house with only one bedroom. Their mother sleeps on the couch while the boys share the bedroom. Now that the man is sleeping on the floor in there as well they have both heard him talking in his sleep. Juan was right, the two names he would say are Anna and Robin. When they had told their mother about this, she had told them not to mention it to the man because it might confuse him more than help him.

Jose knew he was going to have to tell his mother about this when she gets home this evening. He was worried she was starting to like the man in a way she probably shouldn't. Jose wanted to tell her, she shouldn't be thinking about him like that but she wasn't going to listen to him. To his mother, he is still too young to know about these matters. Jose would be twenty in a few months he knew about love and heartbreak and heartbreak was what his mother was heading for if she doesn't accept the man will never be hers.

Before Juan had come into the bedroom the man had been quietly talking to himself. Wondering what it was about that woman he had seen that made him want to follow her the second he spotted her. It was like something was pulling him to her. He had only gotten a brief glance at her face as she had crossed the street ahead of them. His breath caught then he just had to follow her. He didn't know why but it felt like there was this need to catch up to her and talk to her. To see her and find out who she was.

Then Juan had pulled him out of sight just as she started to look around. Why had she done that? It was like she was suddenly looking for someone. Had she felt that thing he had? Was she somehow aware of his need to follow her? He was laying in his makeshift bed on the floor with his hand over his eyes when he heard someone come into the room. He didn't want to talk so he stayed quiet until the light had been shut off again.

Now he was laying in bed staring at the ceiling. The brief encounter played over and over in his mind. Whoever that woman was, he knew he would be seeing her again. He could feel it. His reaction to her had to mean something. There was something so familiar about her. When he had told Juan he thought he had just seen his wife. It just came out, he didn't think about it first. That was what he was genuinely feeling at that moment. That woman is his wife.
