Chapter 6

Robin was in no rush to get home, she didn't want to face Holly and she had already let Robin know she was going to be at the house all day if she wanted to talk. It didn't seem to matter how she put it, Holly just wouldn't accept that Robin didn't need or want to talk. If Holly wanted to talk so they could get to know each other better then it wouldn't be so bad. It was the fact that no matter the topic, the conversation always ended up being about how Robin was handling the loss of her parents.

Robin didn't want to talk about that, she didn't want to think about it at all. In her mind they are on another mission, her parents might be in danger but they are out there and they are alive. Maybe people would think it's odd, but those people don't know her parents like she does. It is only a matter of time until they are back here, Robin just knows it.

"Hey, Kiddo."

Robin smiled as she turned, "Hi Olin. What are you doing here?"

"I was just dropping off a few things for my brother. Now I'm not doing anything." Olin looked over and noticed they were close to Kelly's. "I think you and me should go get some fries or maybe some dessert. Don't worry I won't tell," Olin grinned.

"I wasn't worried and hanging out with you for a while seems like a great idea," Robin said with a big smile.

"Good." Olin took Robin's arm and the two of them walked to Kelly's then went inside. Once they were seated Olin patted Robin's hand. "How is your summer going? I know this can't be an easy one."

"No, it's not. Even hanging out with my friends isn't that much fun right now."

"Of course, it isn't. They don't know what you're dealing with and they can't understand how you're feeling. I bet there are days you don't make much sense, even to yourself."

"There sure are." Robin smiled, "I am so glad we bumped into each other. I've missed you, Olin."

"I miss you, but look at you. A strong young woman, who won't take no lip. You don't need me around all the time. Cramping your style."

Robin let out a little laugh. "This feels nice, the two of us just hanging out. I might not need you to watch me but we should do this more often. I really do miss getting to hang out with you."

"Me and you hanging out. That's a rad idea, kiddo."

Robin laughed again, she really had missed spending time with Olin. She had been a constant in her life, really since shortly after they lost Filomena. They were chatting and getting caught up. When their order got there Olin started talking about her family. Robin loved hearing about them, and how they were all doing. When they were done eating, Robin was still smiling. This had been the most normal she had felt with anyone since they were told her parents had died back in March.

Olin was still talking happily as they walked out of Kelly's. "This was nice, but I should split."

"We need to do this again soon, okay." Then Robin leaned in and hugged Olin. "Thank you for helping her," she whispered.

The older woman squeezed her tight, without saying a word she confirmed what Robin had realized. Olin was the dear friend that had helped her mother while she was here. That's what made their time together feel so comfortable. This is the one person in Robin's life that knows the truth. Olin didn't expect her to act a certain way because she knew the truth. Robin's parents would come back one day. They said their goodbyes, then Robin turned to head home. She couldn't help herself and decided to walk along the waterfront for a little while. How many times had both her parents answered, down at the waterfront, when asked where they'd been? Robin actually had a smile on her face as she walked, she felt good and that felt nice.

It took a little over twenty minutes to get to a small house, even if it felt more like an hour to Anna. This young man had better not be trying to pull a fast one on her. If he is, he will regret it. He turned to Anna then opened the door and they walked into the small house. Jose called out to someone named Juan as he closed the door behind them.

A younger man, who was still just a teen, appeared. A look of surprise on his face seeing the woman standing just behind his brother. "Oh, hey Jose, what's going on?"

"Is he here?" Jose asked, looking around the room.

Before he could say anything Juan saw the woman's expression change and knew that meant the man must have entered the room behind him. Was it shock, joy, maybe a lot of both?

Tears rolled down her cheeks, then she covered her mouth as she stepped further into the room. "You're alive!"

He couldn't look away. He knows her. He doesn't know how but he knows this is his wife. The woman he knew was going to come for him. "It is you. I knew you would come." They stepped closer to each other. "I don't know who I am but I knew you were coming. I knew I would find you," then he grinned, "or you'd find me."

"You found me then I had to find you. Oh, Robert." She made no effort to stop her tears. This is an amazing day, Robert is really here, right in front of her alive and well.

He stepped a little closer and put his hands on her hips, "That's my name, isn't it?" He leaned forwards and put his forehead to hers. Closing his eyes he knew this was right. This is home, she is his wife. Her hands slid up his chest. Oh, this feels so right, it feels safe. "Anna," it was just above a whisper. Then he pulled her into his arms, "My Anna." He rested his chin on top of her head as her arm went around his waist holding him tight.

Juan stepped over to his brother and bumped his arm then grinned over at the couple now holding each other. They are a couple, he could see it, they fit together perfectly, this was not the first time they had held each other. Her reaction to seeing the man had been genuine happiness. Juan didn't care that his brother might tease him, Jose always teased him about being a romantic. He wiped away a tear that rolled down his cheek. He was happy for the man he had befriended over the last several weeks.

When they finally let the other one go, Anna took his hands as she looked up at him, "Do you really not remember anything?"

It truly touched him seeing such concern on her face. She is worried about him. She will help him, he knows that's true. This is the woman that will take care of him until he is himself again. "I couldn't remember my name, not until you said it. I don't know where I'm from. I didn't have any ID. When I was taken to that hospital I knew it wasn't safe there so I left. I had no idea where I was or what was happening but I knew I couldn't stay there. It wasn't safe and you were still out there."

Anna stroked his cheek, he was getting upset only talking about what he'd been through. He must have felt so lost, so alone. "I was moved. When you got there they were moving me."

"So you were in danger? I'm right that I was trying to get to you? Trying to rescue you." A sense of relief went through him as she nodded. It wasn't much but it was nice knowing he knew some things about his life or at least what he had been doing when he had been injured.

Anna smiled lovingly at him, "Yes, you were trying to rescue me. I was abducted six months ago."

"Abducted?" Someone took her away from him. Someone had wanted to keep her from him. That man had done that. "I went after you? I wanted to find you?"

"Yes." Anna couldn't look away from his beautiful face. Finally, they are together again.

"Why can I remember that but I can't remember anything else?"

Anna stroked his cheek, he is really here. "I don't know but I think we need to get you looked at by a doctor. You must have been injured that night. Maybe you remember those things because that was your main focus at the time you were injured."

Robert nodded, he knew something wasn't right. Something had happened to his head, besides the memory loss he would get terrible headaches and often got tired. Being seen by a doctor would be the only way to find out what is wrong with him. He didn't want to think about that right this second though. He just wanted to focus on her. "I saw you the other night."

Anna's breath caught, "A few nights ago?"

He nodded with a little grin, "I only saw your face for a second and next thing I knew I was following you up the street."

"I knew you were close by. That was what made me stop. A familiar feeling, like you were there with me. I knew I was getting closer to finding you."

"Juan dragged me out of sight. So you wouldn't see us." His face turned serious, "This isn't as easy as you just taking me home is it?" Anna shook her head. "Are we in danger?"

"I don't know for sure. I know there are people looking for us. We have been pronounced dead by an organization we used to work for, the WSB. There was another man, the man that took me, pronounced dead as well, he was DVX. I think until he's found there are people that would want us to stay dead."

"How far would they go to make sure we stay dead?" There was concern in his voice, he got the feeling they were dealing with people that did what was needed to get what they wanted.

"I don't know but I don't really want to find that out either."

"So am I a spy?" he asked quietly. For a while now he had felt he had training the average person wouldn't.

Anna let out a little giggle. "You are a police commissioner actually. We gave up the spy game a while back but it does seem to like pulling us back in every now and then."

He nodded and smiled, somehow that made sense to him. He reached up and touched her cheek, then ran his fingers through her hair. This is the woman he has been missing.

"WHAT IS GOING ON HERE? WHO IS THIS WOMAN?"

The four people in the room all turned to see an angry woman standing in the doorway. Jose and Juan had only been watching the other two until now. "Mama, this is his wife!" Juan said, excitedly.

"I don't believe you. How did you get here? Who brought you here?" She turned and glared at her sons.

"She had a gun, what choice did I have?" Jose said, stepping toward his mother. He had been doing what she wanted of him. She had asked him to find out about the woman looking for their friend. He just didn't know the type of person he had been following.

"Oh, sorry about that. It was just a toy. I never would have gotten a real gun on a plane without the proper clearance. I didn't have that this time," Anna told them with a grin. Of course, it was a real gun but they didn't need to know that or how she had acquired it once she'd arrived here. Only a fool would take a toy into a situation that could get you killed. They didn't need to know why she had it and she didn't want to waste time answering pointless questions.

"So you're the police?" the angry woman accused.

"No, he is. I'm actually a PI but more importantly, I'm his wife." Anna was quickly becoming annoyed by this woman.

"I don't believe you. This is some kind of trap. We haven't done anything wrong."

"No one said you did. I am just here looking for Robert."

"Prove it. Show me something with his name on it."

Anna pulled the pictures out of her pocket. "Will these do?" Anna dropped all four pictures on the table between the two of them.

The woman hardly even glanced at them. "How do I know those are real?"

"What?" Anna asked in disbelief.

Robert stepped forward and looked at the pictures looking back at him. Anna noticed that and put the angry woman in the back of her mind as she watched Robert. He picked up the one of him and Robin. After a moment he said, "I promised her I would bring her mother home then I left to find you."

"And now I have promised her I'd bring her father home. She knows I'm alive and that we believed you were. I couldn't stay there with her and risk being seen. I had to get out of town before anyone knew I had even been there."

"Is the man that took you the one that's after you?"

"I don't think so. If Faison is alive then I think he is on the run from the WSB."

Robert nodded slowly as he stared at the picture in his hand. "Robin. Our daughter's name is Robin."

"Yes, it is." Anna looked at Robert with such love in her eyes. Even if he is injured, she has found him and he will be okay. Once he has seen a doctor and gets the treatment for whatever is causing his memory loss everything will be alright.

"I don't trust you. I don't trust any of this!" Anna and Robert both turned. The boys' mother was glaring at Anna now.

Anna turned to fully face the other woman for the first time. Her body language screams 'try me!' "I don't care what you think. I came here to find my husband, that is what I did. I want to thank you for taking him in and giving him a place to stay but he is my husband and I need to get him medical attention. Then I need to get him home."

Selena studies Anna, this is not someone to underestimate but that only made her more suspicious. She's a professional. "I don't believe any of this. I don't believe his name is Robert or that you are his wife or that the picture is really of his child. What are you trying to do? Who sent you? What did he do that people are looking for him?

"Anna is my wife, she didn't have to tell me her name. Robin is my daughter, I knew her name when I saw her picture. I have a head injury but there are things I know I'm right about." Robert stepped forward, "You found me on the street, unconscious and took me in. I'm grateful for that. But Selena, you know I had a life before that. What do you expect Anna to do to prove what she's saying?"

"Show me some ID!"

"All I have is a set of our fake ID and one to match Lyle Thompson's because," she turned to Robert, "that's the one you took with you when you came after me."

"Why do you have fake IDs?" Selena asked suspiciously. Who were they? Why do they need fake IDs? Is she to believe the things they are saying? If so, then who is this man she's been helping? What kind of trouble were they in?

"In our line of work, it's not uncommon to have to go undercover. I had to stop at our house to get them," she looked back at Robert, "and to see our daughter so she knows we are actually alive." Anna reached into her bag and pulled out the IDs for Stephen and Roxanne Conner. "Sure they don't say Robert and Anna Scorpio but that's us."

Juan stepped forward, "Those were two of the people they said died when that boat exploded shortly before he showed up outside. I remember because I thought Scorpio was a cool last name." Juan had read everything he found about that explosion. He had always wondered if that was where the man had come from.

"You thought he could have been from that explosion but didn't contact the authorities."

"I didn't want them to," Robert admitted. "I didn't know what was going on but I knew I was in danger and you've already admitted you don't know if we are or not."

"The WSB might not want to hurt us but that doesn't mean the DVX won't if they're out there." This time when Anna looked at him she noticed Robert looked rather tired. "Are you alright, do you need to sit down?"

"Maybe I should. I get lightheaded sometimes and take a lot of naps."

Anna held his arm as they walked over to the couch and sat down. "I don't want you overdoing it." There was no missing the love and tenderness in her voice as she spoke to him.

Selena watched them bitterly. There's yet another man that will leave her. As she watched their interaction she could see their connection. That is someone he knows, someone that loves him. The sound of her younger son's voice distracted her from her thoughts. Selena looked up to see Juan sit down by the man.

"Usually in the evening, he likes to go down to the harbour and just look out at the water. I go with him and he always looks so peaceful. Some nights he smiles because we can hear harbour bells."

Anna smiled, she knew why that would be special to him. "Does he?" she asked with a grin. "They do have a rather special meaning for us. Actually, at home, we both like to look out at the water when we want to think or clear our heads." Anna couldn't help the smile on her face, she's found him. "Once you get your memory back you'll understand the bells."

"Or you could just tell me," he said with a grin.

Anna glanced around the room, "Um, no it can wait for now."

"So what do we do now?" Robert asked. He didn't question it, he just knew all he had to do was follow her lead and they would be fine.

"First, I think we need to get out of Argentina. Get somewhere no one would be looking for either one of us, then figure out our next move. I want to get you to a doctor and get you checked out."

"Alright, how do we do this?" he asked with a grin.

"Well first, I think we need to head back to the motel I'm staying at. You can get some rest and I can start making plans."

"No, that won't be happening!" Selena interrupted. Maybe she is his wife but there was something about all of this that seemed a little too cloak and dagger for her.

"Excuse me!" Anna turned, instantly ready for a fight.

"He's not going anywhere with you!"

"The hell I'm not!"

Selena looked at the man she hoped would want to stay here with her. That she had let herself believe would one day come to care for her. How could he want to leave with this stranger? "You don't even know who she is. Just because she claims to be your wife, that doesn't mean it's true. She even admitted that those IDs she showed us are fake."

"Anna is not a stranger! You don't know her. Your boys don't know her. I know her! My body knows her! When she called me Robert, I knew that was my name. I knew her name without having to be told."

"Don't you see this could be some kind of trick? She was probably sent by the people that are after you."

"What? This isn't a trick." Robert was confused by Selena's reaction. If she wanted him to get his life back then stand in his way?

"Mama, he knew her. You weren't here. You didn't see it. When they saw each other it was obvious they knew each other. That they have missed each other." Juan told her.

Anna thought for a moment, Robert seems to know a little bit of their personal information. There was a confident smirk on her face. "I think I can prove this to you. Is there a paper and pen I could use?" Juan quickly got them for Anna. She stepped away from the others and wrote one word on the paper then folded it. She turned to Selena and handed it to her. "Do not open that yet." Then she turned back to Robert. "Alright, Scorpio. I need something from you."

"Anything Devane," he said with a cute grin.

Anna smiled as soon as he responded Iike she hoped he would. "I figured that might have stuck too. Selena, please open that paper. Devane is my maiden name. We are both former WSB agents so we are in the habit of calling each other by our last names."

Selena unfolded the paper and read, "Devane." She looked up, "You must have told him."

"Ask your sons, they have been here the entire time. Robert knew my name, he knew our daughter's name. I referred to myself as Anna Scorpio, not Devane. Maybe there are other things he knows as well. I can help him better than you can. I know this man, I love him."

"Mama, you know those are the names of the people he talks about in his sleep," Jose told her, no longer able to stay quiet. "You told us not to talk to him about that so we didn't. You don't have any claim to him and it seems clear this is his wife even if you don't want to believe that."

Robert turned to the young man, "I would talk in my sleep? Why didn't you tell me that?"

Juan leaned a little closer hoping his mother wouldn't hear him, "Mama thought we shouldn't."

Selena wanted to tell Jose to mind his own business and that he can't talk to her like that but then she realized he was right. She has no claim to this man. He had a life before she found him. He had always insisted someone would come for him and he even knew that person would be a woman. Not just a woman, his wife. "If you leave tonight will you come back tomorrow? I think we need to talk. I can tell you about how I found him and how he's been since he has been staying here. I think it would help." It would give her peace of mind and this way maybe she can help him one last time.

Anna nodded as she took Robert's hand in her. "We can do that. Right now, I think I should get him to the motel so he can rest." Anna could tell Selena finally realized that she couldn't stop them from leaving. Offering to help by telling Anna what Robert's been through was more than she had expected.

"I have a few things here. Once I get those we can go to your motel."

"Alright," Anna said as they let go of each other's hands. She watched as Juan followed him then turned back to Selena and Jose. "I would like to thank you for everything you have done for Robert. I am truly grateful someone was here helping him, watching over him." Anna took a step closer to the other woman. "You have no way of knowing what Robert and I have already been through. We lost each other once before and had only gotten remarried last year. Thank you, for everything."

Selena bowed her head slightly, she didn't really know what to say. "You're welcome."

"Is there a good time for us to come by and talk to you tomorrow?" Anna asked.

"Oh, in the afternoon. This is usually when I get home."

"That's when we'll be over."

Robert came back into the room with a small bag. "I guess I'm ready. Thank you, Selena. We will see you all tomorrow, right?"

"Yes," Juan answered for all of them.

Robert held out his hand and Anna took it. They smiled at each other, then said their goodbyes and stepped out of the small house. Anna looked around to make sure they weren't being watched then they walked off in the direction of the motel. Once she had him back there she would feel a lot better, out here on the streets they could be seen. Well if there are people actually here looking for them, that is. They should get something to eat on the way then neither of them would have to go out again. There's no need to risk being seen again tonight. Now that they are together the best thing they can do is lay low until they are far from here.
