Chapter 13
Robert and Anna were stretched out on lounge chairs on the balcony of the room, enjoying the warm sunny afternoon. When the phone in their room started to ring Anna smiled. "Let's hope this is the call we've been waiting for." She walked back into the room and answered it. "Hello."
For a moment it was just silence then, "Hi, Mom!"
Her mouth dropped open as soon as she heard Robin's voice. Anna's teared up, "Sweetheart! Oh, it is so good to hear your voice. Robert, come here."
Robin was grinning excitedly on the other end of the line. He's there, her daddy is there. She needs to hear his voice.
Robert was already grinning as he walked over, he had followed her inside. Anna handed him the phone, "Hello."
"Daddy!" Robin couldn't help the little squeal of excitement when she heard his voice. "She found you. Are you alright?"
"Robin! Sweety, oh I miss you so much. I'm good, I do need some medical attention but I'm in good hands and she isn't letting me overdo it and risk hurting myself. My memory is messed up but I'll be alright after I get the help I need." Hearing her voice filled his heart with joy. That's his daughter's voice. That's his little girl.
Anna was hugging him now so he lowered the receiver enough they could both hear Robin. "I miss you both so much. How much longer until you can come home?"
"We don't know yet, oh sweety I miss you too,'' Anna answered. They could hear how much she missed them in her voice.
That was when Sean pressed the speakerphone button. "Hello, Scorpios. I have a little information for you but that can wait a little longer. Just wanted to join the conversation."
"Hi, Sean. Thank you for letting her call us."
"We are at my place so the line should be secure. That's why we didn't call you last night when your daughter started grilling us about what we know," Sean told them with a smile looked at Robin.
"I just wanted to know what they were working on," Robin said grinning back at Sean. "Mom, was it a woman named Ronda watching you wherever they had you?"
Anna tensed slightly hearing her ask that. "Um, yeah. Why are they harassing you?"
"No, she's the one that's tailing me. I don't know who the others are but when I had her follow me to the catacombs and confronted her, she told me you were alive but I did not tell her you had been here."
"You did what?" Mac asked his hands on his hips. A look of disbelief on his face.
Sean was trying not to laugh, Robin wasn't paying attention to either of them. "You shouldn't look so surprised. This is their kid."
"What else did she tell you?" Anna asked, ignoring the men on the other end of the line. Robin has information they might need.
"She told me the person in charge of the search here is Agent Colin Ross. She doesn't like him much. Apparently, it's a surveillance assignment only. Until recently all of us were being watched, now it's only me. Ronda says it's only her and one other agent doing the surveillance now."
"So they are watching for us but aren't searching Port Charles," Robert concluded.
"I guess so." Robin smiled again, "Daddy, I am so happy that you two are together, it makes it a little easier knowing you're together. When Mom was here and told me they didn't know where you were. I was so scared."
"We're okay, Mom has me and is taking good care of me. I can't wait until I can see you again."
"Me too. Oh," Robin said as she remembered something else. "Ronda also told me that she believes if the WSB finds you, they are gonna lock you up. That there is something going on and for it to work you need to both stay gone."
Sean and Mac were now just letting them talk. They were a little surprised to hear what all Robin did know. The fact she had actually spoken to one of the agents more than once amused them all. There was a fair amount of pride attached to that. Robin knew they would need information and the fact she only told her parents what she knew was perfect. That was what any one of them would have done. If you don't talk about it no one can overhear you. Robin told them all about both encounters then her parents told Robin what they have been through and how Anna found Robert.
The business part can wait. There wasn't a lot to tell them anyway. The papers Robert needed would be there sometime tomorrow. At this point, they believe the manhunt is for Faison. It's believed that the reason Robert and Anna are being looked for is so they can't resurface and interfere with the WSB's plans. They didn't know where the DVX or even Faison might fit into all of this yet. Letting them have a little family reunion was what was important. That was what they all needed.
By the time the call was done Robert and Anna knew they can focus on getting Robert the medical attention he needs. They had all agreed that they would feel a lot better if he was on the mend in case something went down. If Faison shows up somewhere if the WSB decides they do want to detain them for some reason, even if they get to just go home. Whatever it is they face next, Robert should not wait any longer for treatment. Sean and Mac wanted to do a little more digging to see if they could find anything helpful. They had time to find more information, and the more they knew the better they can handle what comes next.
When Anna hung up the phone she looked over at Robert. That phone call had been the perfect motivation they all needed. That is what they are working toward, getting home to Robin. Their daughter needs them to come home to her. Anna couldn't help but notice the amazing smile on his face. "You look very happy."
"You showed up in a panic. Before you could tell me what was wrong she came downstairs and called you Luv. I figured out who Robin was pretty quickly."
Anna put her hands to her cheeks, "You remember that?"
"I guess so. You hugged her tightly, the most important thing in the world was safe. Your daughter was safe and that could only mean she was my daughter as well."
"You needed confirmation and when I gave you that you told me you already loved her."
Robert leaned in and kissed her passionately then pulled away. He knows they can't do anything no matter how much he wants her. Robert understands it isn't only his health that is stopping her. Anna needs him to be her Robert. After talking to their daughter it was so clear how much is still missing. His brother, his best friend, there were too many gaps in what he remembers. Way too much missing for him to even be thinking about sex with Anna. "I'm sorry."
"Don't be." She looked up and saw sadness in his eyes, "Honey, what's wrong?"
"You were taken away from your husband and now even though I'm right here I'm still not the man you need me to be. I wish I could give you what you need."
"Robert, don't talk like that. You here, with me, is what I need."
"You need the kind of support you're giving me. Until I'm me," he lowered his head, "this has to be hard for you."
"I do need that kind of support and since we are going to get you help as soon as possible I think I can manage a little longer. You have been wonderful and don't think for a minute that you have let me down in any way or have done anything wrong."
"I want you. I can't help it. I know we are waiting but then we kiss and I don't want to stop. That isn't fair to you."
"When we kiss I'm an involved party. I've stopped us and you've stopped us. Yeah, the fact you don't have all your memories can be kind of odd at times but there are other times that it doesn't matter in the slightest. You told me you are falling in love with me all over again." She stroked his cheek, "I am getting to know you on a whole new level. This is you, only a little more vulnerable you. Things that normally you would try to keep more to yourself you are more open about and it only makes me love you more because I know it's because you know who I am to you. You don't open up easily."
"You're that person for me. You're the one I depend on because I know you will always be there."
Anna smiled a little, "Yes, I am and Robert Scorpio, never think you need to apologize for kissing me the way you do. I want you just as badly."
Robert smiled and put his forehead to hers, "Alright."
…
It was two days later when Robert and Anna walked back into the same hospital they had been to the week before. They had an appointment this time and were hopeful that when they left today they would know what Robert's treatment plan would be. If he does have to have surgery, how invasive will it be? What would they be looking at for recovery time? Today they were going to get the answers they need. Today they will find out what all Robert is facing on his road to recovery.
After a short wait, they were shown to Dr. Palmer's office. Once they were seated they explain that after they had left the week before they had talked and felt it was better if they stayed here so Robert could get the treatment. When Dr. Palmer told them he was glad that was the choice they made Anna sighed a little as she squeezed Robert's hand. This was the right decision, this was what Robert needed.
There would be a few tests today and then Dr. Palmer will go over the treatment plan. There is a slim chance Robert will need a shunt but that is the worst-case scenario Dr. Palmer assured them. When he told them that as long as everything goes smoothly they are looking at about a five-day recovery period both of them felt relieved. They couldn't help it, they started wondering what they would need to do after that to get home.
It had taken the better part of the day, with tests and the waiting but now they knew it should be fairly straightforward. That his recovery should only take about five days and after that Robert should notice changes in his memory as well. As the healing process occurs he should have improvements but there is a chance a little more medical attention will be needed. All that will be determined after he is in recovery and if needed a neurologist would help him with that part later on. All of it seemed very positive and that made them both a lot happier. There was still reason to worry but having information did put their minds at ease.
The most important part is that Dr. Palmer didn't want to wait, he felt the sooner 'Steve' received treatment the better. Palmer didn't want to risk his condition becoming worse and waiting only meant there was more risk of that exact thing happening. That meant Robert would be having surgery in three days' time.
…
Agent Matthew Tucker was not happy with the fact he had been ordered to go to Argentina. He likes his cushy job running holding facilities. Tucker knew the reason he was here was that one of the people he had been holding had escaped. He still couldn't wrap his head around that. Who escapes protection? He still didn't understand that. Tucker approached the house they had been watching. There had been no signs of Robert Scorpio in the area lately but this is the house he apparently has been seen at.
Tucker had to knock twice but the door was answered. A middle-aged woman that looked like she was having a bad day opened the door. "What do you want?" she slurred as she leaned against the door frame.
"I am looking for a man." He held up a picture but she didn't even glance at it.
"Aren't we all?"
"Well the man I'm looking for, according to your neighbours, has been staying here."
"What do they know? According to them, I can't keep a man."
"Were they wrong? Was there not a man staying here with you?" Again he tried to show the lady a picture of Robert Scorpio.
"Oh there was but I can't keep a man around, not even one with no memory. Just ask my neighbours, they love to talk about me and make their jokes. They love to laugh at the sad lonely Selena that no man wants." She finished off the drink she was holding then turned and went back inside. Agent Tucker followed her, "Don't get any ideas, mister."
"Tucker, Agent Tucker WSB."
"One of the three-letter things she was talking about. So does she work for you, this Anna that showed up here?" She poured herself another drink then looked up at the man now in her living room.
"Anna Scorpio was here? When? The man that was here, was his name Robert Scorpio?"
"Who knows?" Selena took a sip of her drink.
"What do you mean who knows? Were they here or not?" Tucker knew he shouldn't get upset with her. This woman has clearly been drinking. Find out what she knows then get out of here, he reminded himself.
"I found a handsome man and he needed me to help him and I was going to love him. It would have been wonderful. Then she showed up. His Anna." She finished the drink she had just poured. "I would have loved him enough for the both of us."
"I'm sure you would have." Tucker wasn't sure this woman was actually telling him anything useful.
"That boat that blew up. It ruined a lot of lives but I thought it had given me a gift. Why can't I have a good man? I'm a good woman."
Tucker help up a picture of Anna and Robert this time. "Have you seen either of these people?"
"I told you that already."
No, Tucker was positive she had not but he knew he had to be patient since she was rather drunk.
Finally, she did look at the picture he was holding. "That's him and that's the woman that showed up here for him." Selena turned and started to pour herself another drink.
"Before I go, could you tell me when they left?" He knew it wouldn't be much longer before she won't be able to tell him anything useful with the amount she is drinking.
"I bet it's been over a week, maybe three." She tilted her glass towards him slightly. "Here's to me being left yet again. No man for Selena." She turned and looked out the window. Tucker decided he might as well leave. She had confirmed that Robert and Anna were now together. They are looking for one pair, not two individuals. It wasn't much but that was more than they had known that morning.
…
Accent Colin Ross was happy with the reports that were coming in. Faison was in Panama and he has been for a while if all the reports were correct. They might not know where he is holding up but they know he's there. Robert and Anna Scorpio are together, now the only problem was they didn't know where they were. He didn't believe they would have stayed in Argentina but where would they go? Are they on their way back to Port Charles? Did Robert need medical attention, had they stopped somewhere to get him help? If they were trying to get home to their daughter, who would be the people they would contact?
Maybe that didn't matter as much as locating them. Ross needed to know where they are so he can keep them hidden away until the time is right. Well until he has Cesar Faison in custody. The simmering annoyance he feels when he thinks about Robert and Anna Scorpio was there again. Why did it seem as if they can do no wrong in the eyes of the WSB? They were right about Faison being alive. They dealt with him and arrested him. That man put them through hell and they didn't stop, they only wanted him out of their life. The only reason the WSB ever even put the Black Box orders on them was that Ross had insisted that Anna had to have been working with Faison. He'd been wrong of course but even that hadn't stopped them. That determination they have is what Ross needs.
It was his life that will be left in ruins if he doesn't bring Faison in. His career will be over. Then he spotted a picture laying on the desk in front of him, Faison at a little restaurant in Panama City. It was taken a couple of weeks ago but it proved Faison had been there and that he is indeed alive. Ross had set his plan in motion, it wouldn't be much longer before someone goes looking for a mysterious dark-haired lady. When that happens he will get to be the big hero that brings in Cesar Faison.
