Chapter 24
Robert slips his hand up Anna's back as they stood outside of a little Italian restaurant, Antonio's. Anna had picked this place, one because she really wanted Italian and two because it seems like the kind of place that wouldn't be overly busy on a weekday afternoon. "Do you think Alexandra is already here?" she asked as they started walking towards the entrance.
"I don't know. Let's get inside and see."
They walked in, it was a smaller space and as they had hoped there were only three other tables with people at them. When they were seated, they requested a table in the corner so they would be away from the other people there.
After they were seated they ordered drinks and started talking, waiting for Alexandra to get there. It was about five minutes before they saw her enter, then she was shown over to their table. After they all greeted each other and were seated again Anna leaned forwards and touched her hand. "Thank you for coming, I know you didn't have to do this."
"No, I had to. I don't know what is going on and I can tell you two are in way more trouble than you'll let on to. What you told me sounds crazy but there's still more to it that you don't feel comfortable sharing and that's fine. You've told me some man obsessed with you could be coming after me because he is being led to believe I'm you and we're apparently related. I had to come here today."
"Yes, you did," Robert agreed. They all looked at each other, no one seemed to know what to say first.
Alex had been doing a lot of thinking since she had met them. She leaned forward some, "First, call me Alex. I think Anna and Alex sound much better for twins." She saw the looks on their faces and knew she had to say more. "I don't know how or why but I can't stop myself from believing it was Charlotte Devane that took me not the other way around. We have to be twins, Anna. It's the only thing that makes and if you want to be sure I can run those tests. I work in a lab I can get them done and tell no one what they are or why I want them done," Alex offered.
"Having answers wouldn't hurt. I think that would be a good idea. A friend of ours is doing some digging into our family history for us." Anna stated then looked over at Robert. Under the table, he took her hand in his and gave it a little squeeze. "Alex, I need you to understand how dangerous the man that could be coming after you is."
"Are you sure I'm their bait?" She hoped they would say no but didn't believe that would be the case.
"We are sure they are using someone that they believe could fool Faison. Alex, you would fool Faison, well your appearance would. He would know you aren't Anna as soon as you spoke," Robert told her.
Alex only nodded, that was not what she had wanted to hear. "Is there any way to stop him?" she asked.
"I wouldn't think so. This isn't just one man trying to find you. This is an international agency that is putting things in motion to orchestrate an outcome that best suits them. Even if I was still alive and commissioner I don't think there would be anything I could have done to stop them or this plan."
Alex couldn't believe how strange that sounded or how true it was at the same time. This man, this Robert Scorpio casually talking about himself as dead. They are both clearly concerned about her safety where Faison is concerned. She knew just enough about him to know he was not the kind of person you cross. She knew a lot more about Robert and Anna Scorpio now as well. Scorpio and Devane crime stoppers were easy to look into. Alex wasn't part of their world but she did understand it. Robert was explaining that the worst thing they could do was underestimate this Cesar Faison. God, what was she part of?
The waiter came over to their table so they all smiled happily and placed their orders. Not letting on to the intensity of the conversation they were having.
Once they were alone again, "I don't want to disregard the danger you could be in, Alex but if we are going to eat I would rather not be talking about that man right before," Anna stated with a hint of disgust in her voice. Again Robert gave her hand a squeeze.
"I agree, I understand I'm at risk but please don't feel you need to hammer that idea into my head."
"Alright." Robert picked up his drink, then grinned. "I must admit, this might be one of the oddest situations I have found myself in."
"Oh, come on. The two of you, spies, private investigators, you were the police, there must have been some hairy situations."
"Oh, yeah there were but I am sitting here with possible twins that didn't know about the other until the other day and now we are pretending we aren't basically strangers. I can't even imagine what either of you is feeling."
"Robert, please."
"Sorry, Luv."
Alex could see that this was a lot for Anna to deal with. Her husband is still recovering and not fully himself. They are hiding from some threat and now there's a surprise twin. She turned to Robert, "Would you be willing to let me help you? I mean, I know you aren't willing to take part in the study but I could still help you. If that is something you want."
"How would we do that if we are trying not to draw attention to ourselves? Sorry, I just mean if someone comes looking for you thinking it's her and I'm where she is if you're meeting with me then me might lead them back to her."
Anna turned and grinned at him, a pleased look on her face, "Oh, very good."
"I almost lost it there in the middle but I pulled it off," he grinned back. Robert turned back to Alex, a little more serious again. "We would only be drawing unwanted attention on all of us. If you suddenly start doing something you don't normally do would that be noticed by someone that might be watching you? What would that make them do if they felt that could interfere with their plan? If the plan is in motion what if the change in habit is the in he needs to try and take you? I don't mean to dwell on this but we can not take chances," Robert reaffirmed.
"Alright, I understand." They are determined to make it clear how dangerous Faison is.
The one thing they did seem to be able to talk about was the fact that yes, Anna and Alex are family. So, they agreed that they should try to get to know each other over lunch. It was a more pleasant topic than what had led to them all being here.
Anna loved getting to talk about Robin and still had the pictures she had picked up from their house. She handed them to Alex, "I wish I had a few more but these are all recent. Robin will be fifteen this fall."
Alex was holding the picture of Robin and Robert. "She is beautiful, Anna." She looked up and grinned, "This guy's rather handsome as well."
"I think he is," Anna said with a grin as she leaned against Robert a little. Their waitress brought their meal over so she sat up again. While they ate Robert and Anna told Alex about how they met and Alex told them a little about why she wanted to become a doctor.
When they were done eating Alex insisted on paying for lunch, "I believe I'm the only one employed at the moment so I insisted."
Robert leaned in and whispered. "Should we tell her about the rich guy helping us out?"
Anna rolled her eyes, then grinned when Alex turned back to them. "Thank you. It'll be our treat next time."
Before they parted ways, Alex gave them her home number. If they need to contact her that would be easier than contacting her at work. Anna had assured her if they learned anything about Faison getting closer they would warn her. Anna also provided a DNA sample so Alex could get them some answers. Well maybe at this point it should be considered confirmation. She and Anna had admitted that they both already believed that they were more than likely twins. It would be nice to know for sure.
As Alex walked back to her car she realized Robert and Anna hadn't told her where they were staying but she hadn't asked either. They needed to protect themselves, there was so much going on that will affect them and most of it is out of their control. Staying hidden and protecting each other was something they can control. Alex smiled, this has to be the craziest way to learn about having a sister. Soon they will have answers and with any luck, it will turn out Faison is not coming after her but after this lunch, she didn't believe that would be the case.
…
It was another beautiful summer day in Port Charles and Robin was happily spending the afternoon with her friends Lisa and Jenn. She was enjoying herself and didn't feel guilty about that. It was nice to just be hanging out with her friends, being regular teens. Lisa and Jenn had stopped asking Robin how she was all the time a while ago and now it was a lot more like it had been before the world was told her parents had died.
They had gone to the mall and spent most of the afternoon there, then over to Kelly's to grab something to eat before they all had to head home. Robin was walking with Lisa when she thought she saw someone watching them. There was a man behind them that could be following them, he had even turned when Robin had. He was quick, maybe a little too quick for someone that was just turning up the other street. Robin shook her head, maybe she was just a little on edge. Maybe having the WSB around watching her for so long was starting to get to her.
Lisa was still talking about Jesse, her latest crush when Robin looked forwards again. Robin thought it was funny that every couple of weeks Lisa seemed to have a crush on a different boy. Lisa never wanted the boys she liked to know and had actually only been on a handful of dates but she loved to talk about cute boys. One day she'll actually want to date one of her crushes but Robin knew Lisa was also rather shy so it will happen when it's meant to.
"We were talking the other day while he was working. Jesse is so funny and has the cutest little smile. I wanted him to ask me out but then I was scared I might freak out if he actually did and say no. Oh, that would have been so embarrassing, Robin." Lisa covered her face dramatically, "I would have died."
Robin let out a little laugh as she started to forget about the man she thought she had seen. Listening to Lisa go on like this, Robin couldn't help but smile. Then suddenly out of nowhere, Ronda was walking towards them quickly.
"Hi, sorry. Robin, we need to get out of here, right now!"
"What?" Robin looked over at Lisa then quickly glanced around. Crap, she had seen someone a little while ago.
"I don't have time to explain." She reached for Robin's arm, "Please, we can't stay here." Ronda turned to Lisa, "Are you her friend? Do you know her family?" Both girls were nodding. "Can you please tell her uncle that Robin is with Ronda and that I will be in contact as soon as possible? Robin, we really need to get out of here now!"
"Alright." Robin looked at Lisa who looked worried, "I know her, don't worry. This is alright but please tell Uncle Mac I'm with Ronda, he'll understand. I felt like someone was following us a little bit ago so I'm going with her just to be safe."
Lisa knew who Robin's parents had been. She knew that sometimes in the past there had been a need for Robin to have protection. Apparently, that was still an issue she has to deal with. "Alright, I'll tell him. Are you sure?"
"Yeah, I am but I have to go." Robin then turned and hurried off with the woman.
Lisa watched them as they walked away. Why is this kind of thing still happening even now that Robin's parents have died? Shouldn't those kinds of people leave their kid alone? She felt so bad for her friend, then she realized she better tells her uncle fast and hurried off towards home.
Ronda put her hand on Robin's back as they walked. "I'm parked over here." They were walking quickly together and when they reached Ronda's car they jumped in and she quickly drove away. "We can't stay anywhere that could be connected to you."
"What why? Was someone following me?" Robin looked out the back window to see if there was anyone there.
Ronda looked over at Robin, "I don't want to scare you but I'm almost positive I just saw Faison watching you and your friend. I wasn't going to risk him trying anything."
Robin didn't need her to explain any more than that. If Faison is going after her mother then he might believe she'd go more willingly if he has her daughter. Her uncles had told her that Ross was expecting to get results soon, she had understood that meant Faison would be coming out of hiding and going after the person "Where are we going?"
"I think we should get out of Port Charles for a couple of days. I won't risk your safety."
"Okay, if you think that's best." Robin let her breath out slowly as she turned to look out the side window. There was a sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach, this had just gotten very real. If Faison is here looking for her it has to be because he is planning on going after her mother soon and wanted to present her with a gift. That thought made her a little sick to the stomach. Robin knew she would be that gift, he had already tried this once.
…
Who was that woman? Faison hated that she had appeared out of nowhere and whisked Robin away just as he was trying to figure out how he was going to approach the situation. He assumed she must be some kind of bodyguard but why? Would there really still be protection for Anna's daughter, he wondered. What could be the cause for needing security, if that was who that woman was? Why were her protectors expecting trouble?
It wouldn't be the local police now that Scorpio is gone and hopefully dead. Had Donely or the brother brought in someone to keep an eye on Robin? If they had, why? What did they know about? Why were they ready for trouble?
Faison made sure he was still hidden when it was clear he would head back to the car. As he waited Faison started to think about what he should do. He wants to find out for himself if this woman really could be Anna. The pictures are very convincing but he knows this could be a trap. If it is a trap then are those doctored pictures or could there really be someone that looks that much like Anna out there?
Maybe coming here to get her daughter should have waited. If that is not Anna then he'd be stuck with her brat until he finds her. He took a drag of his cigarillo. This might have been out of their way but he would not say it was a wasted trip. When he comes to get Anna's daughter, he now knows it won't be a simple task. He will have to do a little planning on their way back to get her but at least the father isn't around to interfere this time.
He took a look around, it was time to get out of here. Out of this parking lot and out of Port Charles, he's spent enough time here. Now it is time to see who is waiting for him in Halifax. Oh, he would never tire of the game. This time he is playing for keeps, whatever happens next, Faison knows this might be the last chance he gets to secure Anna Devane's place in his life. Let this be the time he gets it right.
