Chapter 29
Three days on the move found Robert Anna and Alex in Kingston, Ontario. Close enough to Port Charles, they could get there quickly if needed but far enough away to stay off anyone's radar. Along the way, and after a few phone calls, they were all in agreement. Faison would likely move back into the area around Port Charles, to be ready if Anna did resurface. He might need time to recoup but he would use all that time he has plotting his next move.
They were in a quaint hotel on the edge of the city. Nothing fancy, it is more the kind of place tourists on a budget would use. They felt certain no one was looking for them and felt this would be a good place to stay for a few days if needed. They were in adjoining rooms but mostly kept the door open between them. Alex had been pacing in her room for some time today. None of them had really been able to fully relax since they left Halifax, some times were just worse than others. Anna had noticed her pacing and was starting to get a little concerned. Almost as if she sensed it Alex turned. "I'm alright. Just thinking. There's a lot going on in my head."
"Alright. Feel free to join us whenever you want."
"I will," Alex said before disappearing from sight again.
"You should come over here. Alex isn't the only one who can't seem to relax today."
Anna looked over at Robert, who was stretched out on the bed and smiled. "We don't know where Faison is, of course, I can't relax."
"I can help you with that," he offered with a grin.
Anna walked over and laid down beside him, "We need to have some idea of where he is. How can we plan on going home if we don't even know where Faison is or when he'll come after me again?" They all knew it was her, Faison was after.
"That's why we aren't going back to Port Chuck just yet. We are the ones that will set the trap and he will not get away this time."
Anna rolled and put her chin on his chest, looking up at him. "This is going to work, right?"
"Of course, it will. He does not get to win this time."
"No, he does not." Anna turned her head resting it on his chest as he started to stroke her hair. "Then we get to go home." Anna smiled to herself before adding the rest of what she was thinking. "Then we can go home and find out about adding to our family."
"I would love that. Oh Anna, if we can have another baby." Robert was grinning from ear to ear just thinking about it.
"I know, it would be amazing." Running her fingers along his stomach she added, "First we have to defeat the bad guy. Again. Then, fun family stuff."
"Mmmm, fun family stuff. That's what I want."
"Me too."
"Sean should be contacting us some time today. If anyone has reported seeing Faison, he'll find out. From what Ronda said the WSB just wants him brought in. Not set some trap to make themselves look good. In theory, they should be more willing to share information now."
"I hope so," Alex said from the doorway, connecting their rooms.
Anna sat up and turned to her, "We are going to stop him once and for all. Then you can return to your life."
"After that man is arrested I might want to visit a little place I've heard a lot about called Port Charles. Get to know my sister and her family better."
"I would like that very much." Both twins started moving towards the table in the room and sat down. "Robert and I were just talking about what we want to do when we get back there."
"We were talking about finding out if a baby could be in our future," Robert added. He had gotten up as well and joined them.
"A baby? I thought you said you couldn't have another child." Alex had felt so sad when Anna told her about her miscarriage, what had caused it and the aftereffects.
"That's what I was told but we want to find out if anything has changed over the years," Anna admitted with a little smile. "If it has, we would love to have another child."
"I wasn't there for the first six years of Robin's life. I wasn't there for Anna while she was pregnant and I would love a chance to be there for all that. To be there for Anna." Robert grinned at her, "I would love to have another child with the love of my life." Anna blushed a little. "What? You know that's true."
"I do, and you are the love of my life. We tried but nothing compares to this," Anna said as she covered his hand.
"Truer words have never been spoken," Robert agreed as he leaned and kissed her lovingly.
Anna was grinning when she looked back at Alex. "We are just waiting to hear from Sean. Once we have some information we can start planning our next move."
"We need to move quickly once we have a plan. There will only be one chance at this with the element of surprise we need," Robert explained.
"This is going to work, right? We won't be on the run forever will we?" Alex wanted to believe in them but she didn't really know them either so all she could do was hope they knew what they were doing.
"I know you don't know your sister all that well yet but you should know something. Nothing will stop her when it comes to Robin. She will do whatever it takes to make sure we are reunited."
"My partner here is just as driven when it comes to family. We will stop Faison and we will be home with our daughter sooner rather than later. That is the only acceptable outcome."
Alex smiled at them, she didn't doubt either one. "Well, would you like to take a walk with me? I'm sure Robert can handle waiting for a phone call by himself.
"Yes, I can. Go out, enjoy yourselves. Bring me something nice."
Anna leaned in and gave him another quick kiss. "I'll think about it." Then she smiled as she and Alex got ready to leave.
…
It was mid-afternoon when Sean called to report his recent findings. A lot had happened since Ross had been shot and the WSB definitely was sharing information more freely. Senior Agent Durrant had even called Sean personally.
"Hey, Sean. What do you have for us?" Robert asked after answering.
"You better sit down for this one."
"I don't think I'm going to like this."
"It's shocking but might not be all bad."
"Just get to the point, Sean."
"I got a call and was informed that you and Anna may actually be alive and that Faison could still be after you."
"Really? From who?" That did surprise Robert. It worried him a little too. They could just be looking for information from Sean.
"Do you remember Gary Durrant?"
Robert thought for a moment, "Yeah, decent agent, nice guy."
"Yeah, well that's who called me up out of the blue to chat."
"Was he looking for information?" Robert couldn't help being suspicious.
"No, he never even asked me any questions."
"He was fishing for information then. Hoping you'd let something slip."
That had been what Sean felt during the call. "He might have been but he did tell me a few useful bits of information."
"Alright, lay it on me." It had been agreed Robert would handle this call so there was no need to wait.
"Well, not only did Durrant tell me that word was out that Anna alive is and that most likely you were as well. I didn't tell him anything. He also told me they are watching Port Charles for any signs that might suggest Faison is back in the area."
"So they believe the same thing we do. He missed his chance at getting who he believes was Anna so he's heading back to the most logical place for her to end up, Port Charles."
"Yup."
"We will be back there soon. How soon is still to be determined."
'I think you'll have to sneak back into town. No one can know you are here."
"I want to have a little better idea of what Faison is up to before we decide when to make our move."
"Mac is doing a little digging and we are waiting to hear from Ronda. Agent Norris is now in very high standing with the higher-ups in the WSB and they want her to keep Robin safe until this is all over."
"Do they know she has been telling us anything? Do they know their exact location?" Robert didn't feel comfortable about the WSB knowing too much about Robin.
"No, I made it clear that she had to protect herself as well. If it comes out after it won't matter. For now, I don't want the WSB to know anything we are doing or that Ronda is working with us."
"That's how I want it too." Robert looked over at Anna and Alex as they walked in. "We can't risk anyone's life. The WSB just wants to bring him in, I don't believe they care if any of us get hurt along the way."
"That's exactly how I feel and why I didn't tell him anything. We are going to have to involve someone that will have the information we need."
"I was thinking that too. Put a little thought into that, I'll talk to Anna, between the three of us there might be someone we all believe we can trust that the WSB won't suspect is working with us."
"I've heard from a few agents from the good old days. They wanted to know if it was true, if you two could be alive. My usual response was I never wanted to believe they were dead so I damn well hope they're out there."
"Some of them might be trying to get info, but some might actually be an asset."
"I want to wait to hear what Ronda has for us before I start asking too many questions. So far, I believe they think I'm as confused as everyone else about this news."
"Did Ross say anything about the fact me and Anna were there the night he got shot?"
"Not that I have heard. I don't know if he'd been able to give a statement yet."
"Is he going to make it?"
"They still don't know," Sean told him as he heard his doorbell. "Someone's at the door, I'll call you back later. Maybe I'll have some more information for you."
"Alright, talk to you later." Robert hung up, then turned and noticed he was alone in the room. Updating Anna can wait a little longer and besides they had brought back lunch with them and his stomach was telling him to eat first.
…
Laying in a dark room, his right arm in a sling. His head was foggy from the painkillers he was being given. Could it have been a week? Was it only a couple of days? What happened? That woman was not Anna. Then that arrogant agent shows up. Was he dead now? What had happened? There was another person, someone had shot him. That's what's wrong with his arm. But why was the pain so bad? Why doesn't he remember what happened?
Where is he? Who had brought him here? Quickly he tried sitting up to look around but the pain in his shoulder was too much and he fell back onto the cot. Even through the pain, Faison tried to work out where he was. This isn't a clean clinic, the type of place the authorities would have to take him if he was in custody. It's dark and maybe less than clean. Was this some backroom no questions asked kind of doctor's office? If that were the case then as soon as he can, he will start the search for Anna again. She is alive and he will find her.
…
Stretched out on a bed watching television would be many teens' dream afternoon. Robin Scorpio on the other hand was already extremely tired of it. She hated this, she can't go home, she can't help. She has to stay hidden for her safety. She hated feeling so useless and so alone. Being stuck in a hotel room with a basic stranger would be bad enough but worrying about what will happen to her parents next was almost unbearable.
Ronda had been busy on the phone almost all day for the last two days. If she wasn't talking to superiors she was talking to fellow agents all trying to work out what would happen next. Uncle Mac was in frequent contact as well. Robin knew this meant everything should happen soon and all she wanted was Faison out of their lives forever and her mom and dad back with her.
Robin wiped at a tear that threatened to fall. It hurt so much to miss them like this. To know they are alive but still in so much danger they can't even risk seeing her was heartbreaking. Sometimes Robin could ignore that pain, put it in the back of her mind but then there were days like today. Days where she felt consumed by her sadness. This felt almost as bad as when they told her they were dead. The helplessness has to be the worst part. To make it worse she doesn't have Friday there to make her feel better just by being there to pet and cuddle up with.
Rolling onto her side, Robin grabbed the other pillow and hugged it. It wasn't much but it helped a little. Soon, she reminded herself. Soon, she will see her parents. Soon they can all go home. Soon this will all be behind them.
..
"What did Sean tell you? Do we have a plan yet?" Anna asked walking back into their room.
Robert looked over, distracted from his thoughts. "No plan. We still don't know enough about what could be going on."
"Then what are you over here contemplating?" Robert had been deep in thought when she entered the room.
"If there was ever a time to do this, I think this is it. We would have to do it right away before anything else can happen." He turned to her, "Anna, I want to see our kid."
Her breath caught as she brought her hand to her mouth. "Could we risk that? Robert, don't tease me about this." There was nothing Anna wanted more than to see Robin and hold her in her arms again.
"I'm not. I want to see Robin. I want to hug her so tight. I want to know she really is alright. I miss her so much, Anna."
"I know you do. I miss her too. We would need to move quickly if we do this."
"We're still too far from home here. If we need to spring into action I want to be a lot closer to Port Charles. Faison is going to turn up again."
"If we left first thing in the morning I'm sure we could be in Finger Lakes by tomorrow evening." Anna pulled him into her arms, "I need to see our daughter."
"It's settled, we'll leave tomorrow morning. You should let Alex know, but first." Robert leaned in and kissed her tenderly. They leaned back, looking into each other's eyes. It felt wonderful knowing they would be seeing their daughter soon
…
Ronda was happier now, it felt much more like a team working together for the same outcome. Not like it had been when she first was sent to Port Charles. One man on a mission to prove he was smarter than one of the DVX's most dangerous agents ever. He had been very wrong and could still end up paying for that mistake with his life.
Ronda now knew that Colin Ross had been acting on his own and that if he survives he will be facing the disciplinary board. The WSB was not impressed with his actions and though they were fully aware that Anna Scorpio was being held, they had all believed it was for her safety, not as part of a plan.
Ronda looked over to the closed adjoining door. Robin Scorpio is safe and hopefully, soon she will be reunited with her parents. Now Ronda was sure she was working with the right people to ensure that young girl gets home to her family. That was the mission now and the only thing that mattered. Keep her safe and reunite her with her parents.
It was late and Ronda knew she should try to get some sleep but that didn't always come easy. She wasn't in as much pain as she had been while working surveillance. Now she felt it was tension causing her body to ache. Yes, there is a team working to reunite a family but for now, she was the only one protecting that young woman. After this was all said and done Ronda knew a nice long vacation would be a must.
