Chapter 31

It took a few days to cover their tracks the way they wanted. Their rental car was dropped off in Buffalo, where Beth also rented a room for a week. The room would not be used but no one needed to know that. The car waiting for them in the parking lot of a strip mall had been rented by one Sean Donely and had been delivered to the location he had given the rental place. Nice size tips ensure there aren't a lot of questions.

There were rental cabins not far from Port Charles. Mac Scorpio had rented one for a month and made it clear all the people staying there did not want to be disturbed while staying there. Less interaction should mean fewer questions. If the people that were actually going to be staying there were seen there was a very good chance they could be recognized. This close to Port Charles, that was something that now had to be kept in mind. People there might know who Robert and Anna are.

Alex followed Robert and Anna into the cabin when they got there. Mac had hidden the key for them. She looked around, it was a small space. Rustic, but cute. Small but not cramped. There would be space for all three of them without feeling like they are on top of one another. How long would they have to be here? Where would they get supplies? She looks exactly like Anna, so none of them can risk being seen.

It had been almost two weeks since Faison had appeared and she ended up on this adventure. Now she finds herself close enough to her sister's home that they can't risk being seen. There is still a madman out there. A man that has already hurt them so much. When will he show up again?

That was when Alex noticed Robert and Anna. They were already moving about the cabin, setting things in order. Talking about what has to happen now. She didn't think they were talking in code, more of a shorthand they have. One thing was clear since they had seen Robin, Anna and Robert had a new drive. There is nothing that will stop them from being with their daughter again.

This was now their game, they were the ones in charge and that was how they liked it. Alex smiled, as scary as this really was it was also exhilarating. "How long do you think we will be staying here?"

"This will be our home base for the foreseeable future," Robert told her as he started checking what had been left there for them. They had finished putting away the food and supplies they had brought.

"How does that work?" Alex knew they had a plan but didn't understand how they were going to be safe here.

"The last few days were us wrapping up the trip we'd been on. If anyone had started to piece together what aliases we might have been using now it looks like they have finished travelling. So were they right about what they thought they knew or is something else going on? This cabin was rented by Mac so he will be coming out once in a while and bringing us supplies. We can be in contact with our team this way. Sean and Mac have already been out here and prepared the place for us." Anna explained.

"The car outside was rented by Sean so if anyone is digging into what my brother and buddy are up to. It will look like they could be hiding people away or preparing a place for people to hide."

That got her full attention. "You want Faison to know where we are?" Alex asked. That sounded crazy to her.

"We want the people reporting back to Faison to paint a picture that makes it clear we are on our way back to Port Charles," Anna stated plainly.

"We can't even leave the cabin!" Alex didn't think she was going to like this.

"Why not?" Robert asked. Alex was about to yell at him but as she turned she saw the wig he was twirling on his finger. "Looks like the twins get to play dress up together, just like all sisters should." Robert was grinning from ear to ear. If he had to go around in a disguise he was glad they had to as well.

"It's been a while since we've both had to be in disguise at the same time," Anna said grinning back at Robert.

"Can it be a blonde wig this time, Luv?"

Anna put her hand to her chest at his reference, "Robin was so excited to see we actually had the same colour hair."

"It hit me like a ton of bricks. That little girl in your arms was your daughter and that meant she was mine as well."

"Blonde it is." Anna looked over at Alex. "We only have to pick one look each and we will try to make it as simple as possible."

"Alright." Alex was feeling a lot better about this already. "So if I wanted to go for a walk as long as I put on my disguise I can?"

Anna simply smiled at her, "Yes."

"Oh, that's good. It's beautiful here and it would be a shame to not be able to enjoy it." If this is what it takes for her to be safe and eventually go home there were worse places she could have to stay. Alex grinned and went to check out the rest of the cabin. Might as well settle in.

Robert plopped a blonde wig on Anna's head, then wrapped his arms around her waist. "This isn't going to be so bad here."

"This is almost over. I can taste it." Anna wrapped her arms around him as well. "We should check out our new digs."

"Not just yet."

"Oh, why not?"

"This." Robert leaned in and kissed her tenderly. Then he smiled at her as they let each other go and turned, looking around a little more now. There were two bedrooms, the small kitchen set to one side with a table for four. The living space had a couch and chair but not much else.

"So how far are we from Port Charles?" Alex asked as she came back into the room a little while later.

"I believe this place is about forty miles away. Close enough that we can get there quickly. There's a little town about six or seven miles north, that's where we will get supplies when needed."

"We are really going to be alright staying here?" Alex wanted to trust that they knew what they were doing but this was not something she was used to.

Anna looked over, "We shouldn't attract any attention. Our cover, if anyone asks, is one of us sisters is a writer and the other two people are into nature photography. We're staying out here for our art."

"That's so easy, I love it," Alex said with a smile. Maybe this was going to be okay. From what she had seen on the way here, it was a beautiful place and spending some time here wouldn't be terrible. Now let's hope they can find Faison quickly so we can all go back to our lives.

While the three travellers were setting into their cabin, back in Port Charles there was a bit of a celebration about to happen. Robin had returned home and Mac was excited to see her. He had called Sean and Tiffany to come over. Ronda had insisted on staying in the car. One, so she could get a feel of what might be happening around the Scorpio residence, and two, so she could report in.

Ronda's higher-ups needed to know they had returned to Port Charles. The WSB had already been hinting it was almost time for them to return the last few times she had been in contact. She was sure, by now, they would have a plan of their own that they believed would lead to Faison being captured and hopefully, that didn't involve Robin. Ronda also knew she would only be told what she needed to know to do her job. Since that was keeping Robin safe, she might not be told that much at all.

When she saw who got out of the car that had just arrived, Ronda smiled. This should be a nice visit. During their time together, Robin would talk about the people in her life. Not about what they might be doing but about them and it was clear Sean and Tiffany Donely were significant people in the young woman's life.

Robin smiled happily when she opened the door and saw Sean and Tiffany standing there. "Hi! I missed you!" she almost screamed with excitement.

As Tiffany stepped inside she pulled Robin into her arms, "I am so glad to see you. I know you were safe but I still worried."

"I knew you would." Robin smiled up at her as she stepped out of the hug, then Sean pulled her into his arms as well. "Hi, Uncle Sean," she said against his chest.

"Hi, kiddo. Have a nice holiday."

"I did." They turned and Sean put his arm around her as they followed Tiffany into the living room. "I saw them." Robin was grinning from ear to ear when Sean turned to her, only he had heard her but he knew who 'them' were.

"When?" he asked quietly.

"A couple of days ago. They came to Finger Lakes and snuck back out the next morning."

"Really?" Sean couldn't help but laugh at that.

Robert and Anna hadn't told him why they had come back from Canada a little earlier than planned, just that they were back in New York state. Now they are about to set up base just outside of the city. They all knew Faison was going to be looking for clues that Anna is alive and they all knew that meant he would be in the area soon if he wasn't already here.

Still grinning, "I had no idea why they wanted me to go out to that barn."

"They were there waiting for you, weren't they?" That is exactly something they would do, Sean thought with a little grin.

"Uncle Sean, it was so good to see them. Even if it was only for a short time. To actually see them and be there with them. I know they are both alive and together and working to get back home. It is so amazing."

"You can't let on that you know they are alive," Sean warned

"I know that but I knew I could say all this to you. Oh, I met my aunt too."

"I heard about her," Sean grinned. "That must have been interesting." A second version of Anna, how similar can they actually be had been his main questions since hearing about Alex.

"She might look like my mom, but it's pretty easy to tell them apart."

"Who are you talking about over there?" Tiff asked over her shoulder, she and Mac were standing by the fireplace.

"My Aunt Alex. She seems pretty cool. She's a doctor. I didn't talk to her much, well, because I spent most of the time with Mom and Dad."

"Wait what? Back up, sugar. You spent the day with your parents?"

"Yeah." Robin grinned. "They surprised me with a visit right before they knew they had to move into position for the next part of the plan."

"I don't want to know anything about a plan. The less I know the less I will bother these two for information."

Robin smiled at her, "I don't know anything to tell you anyway. I just know I got to come home. I have to have a bodyguard but I like her and she'll respect boundaries so that's a bonus."

"Come here, darling. I want to hear about the visit. How are they doing?" Tiffany lead them over to the couch where Friday quickly joined them and settled in beside Robin, his head on her lap.

"They're good. I'm glad they're together. It was so great being with them." The excitement was clear on her face. The four quickly settled in and Robin started talking happily about the visit and her time in Finger Lakes. Being here with them was the perfect welcome home. Robin felt like things had shifted and it wouldn't be long before her parents were home and they were getting on with their life.

A sigh of annoyance could be heard as he adjusted the sling on his right arm. He should be grateful the bullet didn't do more damage, a little higher and it would have hit bone. A little higher and he might not have use of his arm. It hit him high on the side, just below his shoulder actually, maybe the shooter had been aiming for more damage, not a fatal blow. For now, he is dealing with limited mobility, barely able to lift his arm because of whoever had helped that moron Ross.

"Has he died yet?" Faison asked angrily. He hated when mistakes were made. His question went unanswered and that only annoyed him more. "That WSB agent, has he died yet?"

"Not yet sir. I understand he is still listed as critical."

He fumed, that is unacceptable. Cesar had fallen for the WSB's trap and he did not like to be played. "I might need to fix that," he muttered to himself. That man, Agent Colin Ross should be dead. His double cross was far too close. Who was that woman that looked so much like Anna? Where had the WSB found her? He took a long slow drag on his cigarillo. Maybe killing that hacker had been a hasty decision.

There had been no reports of a missing person. There was no mention of anyone else having been in the area that night. What had really happened? Was it the WSB covering up? All that was reported was a shooting. Were there individuals acting on their own? Who might that be? And where did they vanish to? He was finally able to travel but he would be taking his time. There was no room for mistakes this time.
