Note: It's January now, so I realize that I had to go back to campus at some point. Despite that, I intend on getting several stories out of the way as the year goes on. With that in mind, I might write several new ones during, and after, the spring semester at OU. Before we move on, I want to say something to two reviewers.
The White Wolf named Alex: Yeah, the mugger needed some karma. However, he should be lucky that Teagan didn't fry him to a crisp, as there would be nothing left of his body.
Ron: I actually didn't know what to feature as the food that Lexi, Diane, Lori, and Teagan to eat at the end of the chapter, so I chose tiramisu. I'm glad that you like it, though.
Now that I've gotten that out of the way, it's time for chapter fourteen.
Chapter 14: Mission Led by a Demon
The next morning, the Mighty Loonatics were sitting around the table, half-asleep. Teagan had a pot of coffee going, with only a minute left before it finished brewing. Everyone else had a plate full of bacon, eggs, pancakes, and hash browns, having made them moments prior. The new recruits were waiting for Lexi to arrive, as she had yet to join them for breakfast. As they waited, they had a conversation with each other.
"What do you guys think we should do today?" Simon asked.
"If we don't have a mission today," John said, "I'll just be in my room, reading."
"And I'll be calling my family, catching them up on what's going on." Diane said.
"I've got nothing better to do," Jack spoke, "so I might go on a walk."
"Mind if I join you?" Teagan asked.
"I guess so." The young man said.
Lexi then walked into the room, not going unnoticed by the Mighty Loonatics. She wore a pink and green robe, but had nothing on in terms of footwear. The doe took her seat at the table, sitting in between Jack and Simon.
"Morning guys, what's for breakfast?" Lexi asked.
"Pancakes, hash browns, bacon, and eggs." Lori said. "But we can make toast if you like."
"I'm fine with eating what you guys made." The doe said.
"In that case, what would you like on your plate?" Jack asked.
"Just give me a few pancakes, two slices of bacon, and some eggs." The rabbit said.
"We've also got coffee, in case you want any." Teagan noted.
"Can I have a cup?" The lepus asked.
"Sure." Diane said.
Getting up from his seat, Jack grabbed a plate and began to gather what Lexi asked for. Once the plate was full, the young man took out a coffee cup, filling it with creamer and coffee. The moment he got done, he placed Lexi's breakfast in front of her, placing some silverware near her.
"I could've gotten it." Lexi said.
"We just feel that it's necessary to serve you, Lexi." Jack said.
"He has a point, you are a Loonatic." Diane said.
"Besides, Jack's a firm believer in chivalry." Jack said.
After eating breakfast, Lexi went to go get dressed. The Mighty Loonatics went to the living room, choosing to hang out in there for the time being. The new recruits had a small conversation, seeing as there wasn't much to do.
"If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you be?" Simon asked.
"I'd live in Nepal, mainly because it's so quiet and peaceful." Diane said.
"If you're asking me, I would like to live in either Massachusetts or Rhode Island." Jack stated.
"If I could live anywhere, it would be in Hokkaido." Klara said.
"I would live in either Norway or Sweden." Lori said. "A third option would be Iceland."
"I'd live out west," John said, "but only in the areas that are, for the most part, in the middle of nowhere."
"I'd live in developing countries, helping its population improve and grow." Teagan stated.
"As for me, I'd live in Canada." Simon said. "It would be nice to become a Mountie."
"This is a bit of a stupid question," Jack spoke, "but what would you do if you found yourself in the 21st Century?"
"I would dress in the same way people did during that time." Diane said.
"I would try to find a way back to the time we're living in." John said.
"I would try to make some friends during the 21st Century." Klara said. "I'm not sure if I would want to come back to the 28th Century, though."
"I would go crazy, seeing as it would be scary to live in a past century!" Simon stated.
"I'm not sure what I would do." Lori said. "Maybe I would just hang out and make friends. I would need to dress in different clothing, as to not draw suspicion."
"I would help out with the environment." Teagan stated.
"I'd just chill out, letting nothing bother me." Jack said.
All of a sudden, Lexi walked into the room, wearing her uniform. The Mighty Loonatics watched as she took her seat in the couch, sitting between Diane and Simon.
"What were you guys talking about?" Lexi asked.
"We were just having a little conversation," Klara said, "even asking a question or two."
"We were talking about where we would want to live, and what we would do if we found ourselves in the 21st Century." Teagan added.
"Sounds like fun." Lexi said.
"It's not a whole lot of fun, to be honest." John said.
"Yeah, it's just a little game we were playing." Diane stated.
"Man, I wish I was in here for it!" Lexi frowned.
"Don't worry, you can join in on the next one." Jack said.
All of a sudden, an alarm went off. This caused Lexi to check for a crime alert. Luckily, it was nothing big, just a simple bank robbery. The Mighty Loonatics gathered around Lexi, watching the crime alert.
"You guys ready for this?" Lexi asked.
"Yes, but I have something to ask you." Jack spoke.
"What is it?" The doe asked.
"Mind if I lead the mission?" The young man asked.
"Sure, why?" The lepus asked.
"I've always wanted to lead a team in battle." The human-Jarlon said. "Now that I'm in a team like this, I feel like the dream can come true. Please, let me take charge on this one!"
Lexi reluctantly nodded, stepping to the side. After that, Jack stood forward, looking at his teammates.
"Alright, guys, let's head out!" He spoke, his voice full of bravery and confidence.
Upon hearing that, the Mighty Loonatics made their way to the elevator. After taking it up, the team found themselves in a garage. Inside the garage was the ship the original Loonatics used. Having already taken a ride in it in order to fight Sypher, the Mighty Loonatics were eager to use it again. Stepping inside, the new recruits watched as Lexi helped Jack steer it. Flying it out of the garage, the team took the ship down to the bank, hoping that the robbers hadn't left yet.
The streets of Acmetropolis were in a panic as gunshots rang throughout. Outside of the bank were four robbers, who were brandishing semi-automatic pistols. They had just gathered the money they stole, loading it into the back of their van. Eager to keep the police off their tail, the robbers fired their pistols towards the main road, intent on hitting any police cruisers that came towards them. Upon seeing that there were no police officers coming after them, the quartet began to ride away from the bank.
Unbeknownst to the robbers, the Mighty Loonatics had parked on the roof of a building that was next to the bank. Lexi and the new recruits were overlooking the road that went into the city, watching as the robbers traveled down it.
"Alrighty, Jack, what's your plan?" Lexi asked.
"We should split into two groups." Jack said.
"Who should be in each group?" The doe asked.
"You, Klara, Lori, and Simon will be with me." The young man stated. "As for Diane, she'll be with John and Teagan. Sound like a plan, everyone?"
"Not a bad idea." Diane said.
"Alright," the human-Jarlon said, "let's do this!"
Down on the street, the robbers parked next to a warehouse.
"Let's move out, we're safe!" The leader said.
Getting out of the van, the robbers went into the warehouse. Once inside, they sat at a table, engaging in a conversation.
"You know what's weird?" One of the robbers asked.
"What?" The leader asked.
"You'd expect someone to call the Loonatics on us, but no one did." He said.
"That's because they don't live here anymore." Another robber said.
"But didn't they come back a few weeks ago?" The fourth robber asked.
"That was only a one-time thing, boys." The leader said. "Besides, it might have been a Tour of Duty on their part."
"Tour of Duty, eh?" The second robber asked. "What would they do that for?"
"Probably some crazy stuff, like a monster or terrorist plot." The fourth robber said.
"Monsters and terrorist plots? Not even close, gentlemen!"
Turning around, the robbers saw Lexi standing in the doorway of the warehouse. Alarmed, they grabbed their guns and pointed them at her.
"Whoah, easy boys!" Lexi said.
"Great, it's one of the Loonatics." The third robber said out of sarcasm.
"Give us one good reason why we shouldn't shoot you!" The leader spoke.
"That's because you're not going to succeed in that." Lexi stated.
"And what makes you think that?" The second robber asked.
"Because she has friends!"
The voice caught the robbers off guard, causing them to drop their guns.
"Who the hell was that?!" The third robber asked.
All of a sudden, a fireball was thrown at the robbers. While they dodged it, they were unprepared for the aura blasts that knocked them off their feet. Shortly after, two of the robbers were lifted by an unseen force, with the other two watching on in horror. They then got knocked down when their allies got thrown at them. After that, rocks were carefully lowered onto the unconscious robbers, which held them down. This prevented them from getting up or even moving.
Once the robbers were down, Jack, Klara and Simon stepped out into the open. As for Lori, she turned off her invisibility, allowing the others to see her. The robbers then looked up at the four new recruits, their eyes filled with curiosity.
"Who the hell are you?" The leader asked.
"We're some of the new Loonatics, guys." Jack said.
"And we're here to take you to jail!" Simon said.
The leader of the robbers looked over at Lexi.
"You're working with these ragtag team of kids?" He asked.
"Don't let their appearances fool you," Lexi said, "they're pretty powerful."
"And we're not the only new members of the team." Klara said.
Out of nowhere, Diane, John, and Teagan walked up to the group.
"Eight of them?" The third robber asked. "That's a little overkill, don't you think?"
"Don't worry, there's plenty of room for us at HQ." Jack said.
"Now that you're down, we're taking you to jail!" Diane said.
"Not yet!" The leader said as he shook the rocks off of him.
The robbers then freed themselves from the rocks Klara had put over them. In response, the Mighty Loonatics braced themselves for an attack. However, Jack stood forward, getting in the face of the lead robber. The young man glared at him, looking at the criminal eye-to-eye.
"Stand down, gentlemen." Jack spoke.
"And just why should we?" The leader asked.
Without warning, a purple aura surrounded Jack. His eyes then turned red, the pupils becoming thin slits. They glowed as the aura floated around the human-Jarlon, almost as if they were flashlights being aimed towards fog. The robbers were surprised by this, having expected Jack to get stupid and hit one of them.
"If you don't stand down," Jack spoke, his voice somewhat distorted, "then I'll make you regret it for the rest of your very short lives!"
Frightened by this, the robbers put their hands in the air. Upon seeing that, Jack calmed down, causing the aura around them to fade, and his eyes to return to normal.
"Alright, John, send them to jail!" The young man said.
Using his powers, John opened up a portal underneath the robbers, making sure that it took them to prison. After that, the Mighty Loonatics walked out of the warehouse, having finished the mission. As they walked back to HQ, the team spoke to each other.
"So, what do you think?" Jack asked. "Do you think I did a good job leading the mission?"
"You did pretty well for your first time." Lexi said. "Even if you're nowhere near Ace in terms of leadership skills, your heart is in the right place."
"With that in mind, it's his head you should worry about." Klara stated. "He never gets an A when it comes to his math and science classes."
"Hey!" Jack yelled.
"A leader who isn't good at math or science? Sounds like fun." John said out of sarcasm.
"Come now, John, you weren't a wiz when it came to math in high school." Diane said.
"That's because math is a difficult subject." The stag said.
"Anyway," Simon spoke, "what should we do next?"
"Well, what do you guys want to do?" Lexi asked.
"Let's just head back to HQ," Lori said, "there isn't much to do when you're a superhero."
"Yeah, especially when you have just gotten finished fighting some criminals." Teagan stated.
"In that case, I've got something that we can do." Lexi said. "Are you guys interested?"
"Yes!" The Mighty Loonatics chorused.
The team continued to walk towards HQ, eager to do what Lexi had planned.
Back on Blanc, Zadavia was overlooking the data that had been collected by Duck, Tech, and Rev during their time with the Mighty Loonatics. While doing so, she was somewhat mortified by the data Lexi had shared with her. She wasn't surprised that John was out for revenge, given the powers he had gained after his sister's death, but it was shocking how he went through with it. The fact that the body of Howard Jaffe was still in the sewers was something that concerned her. Zadavia struggled to keep herself from vomiting as the description of his body came up, as Jaffe was killed in a brutal way.
"Zadavia, are you in there?"
Upon hearing that word, Zadavia regained her composure, looking away from the screen.
"Come on in!" She spoke.
The door to the room opened up, revealing Ace standing in the doorway. The leader of the Loonatics walked up to Zadavia, engaging in a conversation with her.
"Ace, what are you doing here?" Zadavia asked.
"I was just wondering how Lexi was doing." Ace said.
"She's doing well," the woman said, "but there's something that might shock you."
"What is it?" The hare asked.
Zadavia sighed for a moment, then spoke again.
"One of the Mighty Loonatics killed a major enemy during a fight." She said.
"What?!" Ace asked, surprised. "Who was the one who killed the enemy?!"
"John," Zadavia told him, "he did it out of revenge. But, he took it a little far."
"Gee, I knew that he wanted revenge on the guy who killed his sister, but I was hoping that Lexi would've talked him out of it!" The hare spoke, somewhat nauseated.
"John was, more or less, just acting in honor of his sister." The woman said. "Considering how Lexi is your sister, and that Teagan is Duck's sister, I wouldn't doubt that you would do the same."
"You got me there." The lepus said. "Besides, considering Jaffe's criminal record, I wouldn't say that I blame John for what he did."
"Moving on from that, Lexi's turn will be up in a few days."
"Who will watch over the rookies next?"
"Slam will go next, then it will be your turn."
"I hope that the big guy does okay when he's with them."
"Me too, Ace, me too."
"I'll see you later."
"As will I."
After their conversation, Ace left the room, leaving Zadavia by herself.
Note: This took longer to complete than I thought it would, but I realized that I wasn't entirely focused on this one. Now that it's done, I hope that it was worth the wait. Until next time guys, this is Newcomer24, signing off. Peace!
