After the tragic death of his parents and the defeat of Lord Voldemort, Harry Potter was sent to live with his maternal aunt and uncle. Ever since Harry could walk, he was put to work by Petunia and Vernon. At the age of 4 he began to cook for the Dursleys. One morning, Harry accidentally dropped the bacon because he couldn't reach the stove properly. Vernon grabbed Harry off the floor roughly and put his hands on the hot burner. Harry howled in pain. Vernon threw Harry back on the floor and began to kick him in the stomach. "How dare you waste our food you ungrateful freak" Vernon roared. Harry had tears streaming down his face begging Vernon to stop. Vernon picked Harry up by this throat and was marched to the cupboard under the stairs and tossed him in. As Vernon locked the door he stated "no food for three days you worthless freak". As Harry closed his eyes in pain and prayed for somebody to save him, he missed his hands and stomach glowing in a golden light slowly healing himself.
Time skip about 4 years
Hermione Granger was new to Surrey and Little Whinging. Her family had moved there from Crowley, to give Hermione a chance to get away from all of the bullies at her old school. Hermione was a bright and inquisitive young girl. She was thrilled at the chance to make a friend at her new school. Hermione was always the first one in her class, to raise her hand and answer questions. It quickly earned her the title of know-it-all and led to her being bullied. Hermione did her best to ignore all of the bullies but it was difficult. Dudley Dursley was the biggest and meanest out of the bunch. Hermione was at recess reading a book when Dudley approached her. "Give me that" as he ripped the book out of her hands. Hermione stood up and demanded that Dudley give her the book back. They all began to laugh at her as Piers Polkiss shoved her back to the ground. As Dudley began to tear the book apart, Hermione stood back up with tears in her eyes and fled back into the school. She ended up in the library. As she sat down at the table, a quiet voice from behind her startled her. "I'm sorry about my cousin."
Harry stood back at the edge of the crowd as he watched his cousin Dudley taunt and bully the new girl. He looked around. He muttered "Of course. No teachers when you actually need them." Harry watched as rat faced Piers Polkiss shoved Granger into the ground. As Hermione ran off, Harry made a decision and slowly followed after her. As Harry walked, he thought about his most recent punishment. Uncle Vernon had come home drunk and Harry did not have all of his chores done. His ribs and shoulder were still sore from where Uncle Vernon had grabbed him and punched him multiple times in the chest. Harry shook his head to clear the memory as he saw Granger sit down at a table. He approached her and quietly said "I'm sorry about my cousin."
As Hermione turned around she noticed a small boy standing there. He looked familiar. The boy had messy black hair and the greenest eyes she had ever seen behind a pair of broken glasses that were being held together by tape. His eyes were filled with a deep sadness and his mouth set to a frown. He had on clothes that looked to be way too big to be his own. His shoes had holes on the sides. Hermione frowned and responded with " your cousin?" The boy runs his hand through his hair nervously and just nods. Hermione asked "Who are you?" "My name is Harry Potter. We are in the same class". Hermione thought for a moment and remembered the boy who sat in the back of the class and never asked a question. The boy who is always alone at lunch. Hermione was shocked that somebody like Harry Potter was related to Dudley. They talked for the rest of recess. Finally, Hermione bravely asked "will you be my friend?" Harry gave a one worded reply "yes".
Harry and Hermione became closer and closer the rest of the year. During the summer, Harry visited Hermione at her house for the first time. Hermione introduced him to her parents. Her father was a well built man who looked like he played Rugby for a living. Dan Granger had short brown hair and dark brown eyes filled with kindness. Hermione's mother Emma, had the same wild, bushy brown hair as her daughter with the same chocolate brown eyes. They had just opened a new dental practice in Little Whinging. While Dan was talking to Harry, Harry accidentally backed up into a bookcase and knocked a vase off the top. Dan quickly raised both hands to catch it. Harry immediately flinched and closed his eyes. He yelled out " I'm sorry please don't hit me!" Dan's eyes narrowed and he crouched down to be eye to eye with Harry. "Why would I hit you Harry?" he asked softly. "It was an accident and even if you did it on purpose I still wouldn't hit you" Dan said. "Harry, who do you live with?" Dan questioned. Harry stated that he has lived with his aunt and uncle since his parents died. "Do they hurt you son?" Harry looked Dan in the eyes with tears in his own eyes and nodded yes. Dan stood up and went to grab the phone. "What are you doing?" Harry questioned. "I am calling the police." Dan said with some anger in his voice. "Emma and I are dentist Harry. We have oaths that we take, that if we suspect or know about child abuse incidents, we have to report it." Dan explained. Harry, while shocked that somebody believed him, nodded at the explanation.
After getting off the phone, Dan explained to Harry that they had to go down to the Police station and submit a statement and photos. Once at the Police station, Harry and Dan met with one of the officers on duty. The officer introduced himself as Officer Bell. Officer Bell led Harry and Dan to an interview room down the hall. Officer Bell asked Harry to tell him about the abuse. Harry was still in shock that they were taking seriously. It clicked in Harry's head that this was his chance to actually leave the Dursleys. Harry explained every instance of abuse in his short life to Officer Bell. Harry also told him about the cupboard under the stairs. Harry also showed Officer Bell the scars on his arms, chest, back and legs. Dan was horrified that somebody could cause that kind of damage to a child, let alone their nephew. Officer Bell left the room to grab a camera. He returned and began to take photos of the scars.
An hour later, two police cruisers pulled up Number 4 Privet Drive and four officers stepped out. They walked up the drive and knocked on the door. Petunia answered the door. She was shocked to see the officers. "Hello officers, what can I do for you?" she asked nervously. "Are you Petunia Dursley madam?" one of the officers questioned. "Yes sir." "Is your husband Vernon Dursley home?" another officer asked. "Yes, he just got home from work about thirty minutes ago. What is this about?" Petunia demanded. "Madam, please have your husband come to the door." an officer ordered. Petunia turned around "Vernon, come here. There are police officers at the door." Vernon, surprised, finished his scotch and walked to the front door. He put a big smile on his face and said "Gentleman wh-" he was cut off by the officer standing in front. "Vernon and Petunia Dursley you are under arrest. "For what!?" Vernon yelled. Petunia noticed that the neighbors were all looking and pointing at them. "For the abuse of your eight year old nephew, Harry James Potter." an officer responded. Vernon's face turned purple. "The boy is lying to you. We are upstanding members of the community." Vernon growled. "That is for the judge to decide, turn around and place your hands behind your back." the lead officer ordered. Vernon saw red and swung his meaty fist at the officer in front of him. The officer sidestepped and pulled out his taser. Vernon continued to march towards him. The officer fired the taser and Vernon fell to the ground with fifty thousand volts coursing through him. After the five second shock was over the officer informed Vernon that he was also being charged with resisting arrest. Petunia went with no resistance. Dudley was taken to the police station until he could be picked up by Marge Dursley. Harry asked Officer Bell if he could stay with the Grangers instead of going to a foster home. Officer Bell looked at Dan and Dan nodded his consent.
Three weeks later found the Dursleys in front of the judge. The trial went on for a week, where Harry only had to testify once. The judge, disgusted by the photos of the scars, asked if the jury was ready to declare a verdict. Vernon and Petunia were found guilty of child abuse and Vernon found guilty on the resisting arrest charge. A week later Vernon and Petunia were back in front of the judge for sentencing. Petunia and Vernon were sentenced to eight years in prison with no chance at probation. After the eight years were up Vernon would serve thirty days in the local jail for his other charge. The custodianship for Dudley would be given to Marge Dursley. The judge also approved Dan and Emma to be the guardian of Harry.
Living with the Grangers was a stark contrast to Harry's previous life. The house was filled with warmth and laughter, and Harry soon discovered the joy of being part of a loving family. Both Dan and Emma encouraged his curiosity and nurtured his natural talent for learning. Harry thrived in this new environment, soaking up knowledge like a sponge and developing a deep sense of belonging. Hermione was excited that Harry was going to live with them. Emma was happy she got the chance to raise a little boy and give Harry the type of love only a mother could give. Every opportunity Dan got, he had Harry join him at his Country Club. Dan showed Harry how to play tennis, golf and swim. Dan was glad he had someone to spend time with outside. Hermione just wasn't an outside type of person. Harry was just happy to be accepted. One of his favorite moments was going to the football match between Chelsea and Manchester City.
One summer evening, as Harry and Hermione lay on the grass in their garden, staring up at the stars, Hermione turned to him with a serious expression. "Harry, have you ever felt like there's something different about us? Harry hesitated, then nodded. He had always felt a strange connection to the world around him, an inexplicable ability to make things happen. Hermione smiled, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "Me too. I think we're special, Harry."
Their lives took another turn when, on Hermione's eleventh birthday, a woman was knocking on the front door. She introduced herself as Professor Minerva McGonagall and she was from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She was shocked to find Harry Potter living with the Grangers. McGonagall asked what happened to the Dursleys. After the explanation, she looked like she could breathe fire. "I told that stupid man that they were the worst type of muggles." she muttered. Dan and Emma, though initially shocked that their son and daughter were magical, were incredibly supportive. They embraced the magical world with open minds, eager to understand and support their children.
At Hogwarts, Harry and Hermione's bond only grew stronger. Harry was sorted into Gryffindor and quickly became known for his intelligence, bravery, and loyalty. Hermione was sorted into Ravenclaw. Together with their new friends they faced challenges and adventures while becoming some of the best wizards and witches in their generation.
Through it all, Dan and Emma remained a constant source of love and support. Harry never forgot the kindness they had shown him, and he often thought about how different his life might have been if they hadn't taken him in. He was grateful for the family he had found, and he knew that, no matter what, he would always have a home with the Grangers.
