Chapter 16: Myrtus

The room was different from the one he had first consummated his marriage with Sakura in. For this, Sasuke was grateful. His mother had of course outdone herself. The petals on the bed were white. They looked lovely on the gold and blue comforter. Sasuke wondered why Mikoto chose white instead of red. The blue of the comforter matched Sasuke's kimono. On the left nightstand were a few items. Upon closer inspection, the items were revealed to be an empty basin, a couple clean towels, and a large bottle. Sasuke grabbed the bottle and looked at it. His face turned red. 'Right. Naruto's not in heat so he'll need to be prepped.' He put the bottle down before he made his way over to where the wine was. He poured himself a glass in hopes that it would calm his nerves. "Right," Naruto said. He swallowed. "Ok. I'm ready." Ino smiled and Emiri brought forth a pair of slippers. Naruto stepped into them. Ino then escorted Naruto out of the room, leaving Emiri and Hinata to clean up. She made sure the robe remained on Naruto.

When they got to the consummation room, they paused. "Would you like for me to take the robe now?" Ino asked.

"N-no," Naruto said. "I'll remove it myself." His face was still red.

"Then I'll take my leave," Ino said. She patted Naruto's back. "Don't worry. Prince Sasuke won't do anything to hurt you." Naruto nodded before finally opening the door.

While Sasuke looked at Naruto, Naruto looked back at Sasuke. The man was wearing a simple blue kimono with a black obi. It was open slightly, revealing a bit of his chest. His eyes moved down and he didn't see any pants. Naruto wondered if he was wearing shorts or just his boxers then. Naruto's blushed darkened at that and he turned away. His eyes fell on the wine bottle and he raised an eyebrow at that. Sasuke followed his gaze and frowned.

"I was a bit nervous," Sasuke admitted. The admission caused Naruto to relax a bit. He took a few steps towards the wine. He poured himself a glass before taking a seat on the edge of the bed. The blue and red represented Sasuke with the white and gold represented Naruto. The blond knew right away that Mikoto had chosen the bedding. Sasuke sat back down and turned towards the blond. "I can call for more wine if you'd like. Or maybe something else?"

Naruto shook his head. "N-no, I just haven't really had wine before."

"You don't have to drink it," Sasuke said.

"I know." Naruto finally brought his glass to his lips and took a sip. It was sweet and Naruto was surprised that Sasuke had consumed so much of it since Sasuke wasn't one to like sweet things. The effect wasn't immediate, but Naruto still managed to relax a bit more from the wine. They drank in silence, with Sasuke filling up Naruto's glass when it emptied. Once the bottle was empty, Sasuke took Naruto's glass and put it down next to his. He then sat down next to Naruto.

"Your robe is nice," Sasuke said. "And you looked really beautiful in your dresses tonight, especially your wedding dress."

"It was my mom's. Queen Mikoto had it altered to fit me." Naruto smiled. "I'm glad that I have something else to remember her by." His hand went to where his necklace usually sat on his chest, but it wasn't there. Hinata had put it away for safekeeping for when Naruto would return to his room.

Sasuke saw the movement. "Was your necklace also hers?" Naruto looked at Sasuke in surprise. "I've almost always seen you wear it. I think the only times I didn't were during the Hunting Festival and today."

"I wanted to make sure it was kept safe."

Sasuke nodded. "I understand." Silence filled the air was awkward since neither knew if or when to make a move. Sasuke's eyes kept going to Naruto's neck.
