Before we could get started on our work study, we got a pretty surprising news flash about a change of plans before New Year's.
Aizawa sensei announced it in class. "The hero work recommendation project. You'll be stationed here, on Nabu Island in southern Japan. Seems their previous hero-in-residence got old and retired. So the lucky people of Nabu Island will have to depend on you till a permanent successor arrives."
Everyone started talking all at once.
"We're going to be doing real hero work? Oh, my gosh, this is amazing, you guys! Aw, yeah, let's go!"
Kirishima shouted "I'm so ready! Bring it on!"
Sensei interrupted him. "I wasn't done talking yet. Quiet down!"
That got everyone to quiet down. "Better. While you're there, you'll be completely on your own. No teachers to help you or pros to back you up. You're responsible for everything that happens. Good or bad. Keep that in mind and behave as heroes should at all times. Understood?"
"Yes, sir!"
And that's how we ended up on this island. Somehow. And we were running a makeshift hero service right on the island.
Ashido was on the phone, saying "UA Hero Agency. Sure. I'll send someone right away. Kaminari, head to the west district. Mr. Matsuda's battery's dead."
Kaminari groaned. "Jeez, again? Why can't the old man buy a new one already? Ugh. "
Everyone started chanting "Go get 'em, Chargebolt! Go, go!
That got him going. "I'm on it!"
Aoyama was saying "Oui, you have reached UA Hero Agency, where we strive to solve all your problems with a sparkle."
"You found the lost dog?" Said Hagakure to Koda over the phone. "Good work. Next up is a missing parrot."
A small girl with a very large hat came in the door saying "Please, it's my little brother! I can't find him anywhere!"
"Stay calm, okay? We can help you. First…"
"No, really, it's no trouble at all. Of course!"
"Hey, do you mind? It sounds like poor Granny Sato threw out her back."
Iida shot up "Right. On it. Fear not, Granny, I'm on the way!"
"Lost child in the shopping center! Is there anyone available to come with me?"
Bakugou shook his head. "Hard pass."
"Come on!"
Kirishima said, "Yeah, obviously you're real busy, Bakugo."
"Count me in. Let's find this kid!" said Midoriya.
"Yeah, and how's your dumb Quirk gonna help find anything?" Bakugou snapped quickly.
"We've got a missing kid?"
"Okay. Sounds like I'm up," Jirou smiled, and stood up to join Midoriya.
"I'm free. I can help look, too!" said Uraraka, jumping in to join them.
The others announced, "Hero Agency! Members of Class -A! Heading out!"
We were pretty busy the rest of the day, running around putting out fires, getting everyone out of trouble. At the end of the day everyone collapsed.
"I'm exhausted."
"We've gone Plus Ultra beyond what's allowed by the Labor Standards Act."
"Hey, uh. How 'bout fewer small jobs?"
"No can do! All jobs are equally vital."
"It may be true that we came here as heroes, but remember, we're still just students."
"We have to work hard and prove ourselves to earn the islanders' trust."
"Hey, uh, does that go for all of us, 'cause I know someone who hasn't done anything since we got here."
Bakugou snapped back, "Well, somebody's gotta stay behind and watch the office, moron. What're you gonna do if a villain shows up while all you geniuses are out doing stupid crap, huh?"
"Oh, come on," they protested. "There aren't any villains on this island."
The door opened and an old man appeared.
"Sorry for barging in."
Iida gasped. "Mr. Mayor!"
Behind him looked like the whole town.
"It was so sweet of you to carry Granny to the hospital earlier," he replied.
"Thank you."
" And thanks for fixing that old bike of mine."
"And our battery!"
"And for keeping the beach safe, too!"
"Freshest fish on the island right here!"
"Just a little something to show you how grateful we are that you're helping us."
"All right! Let's dig in!"
Iida cried, "We're heroes, people! Show some restraint!"
I smiled and bowed. "Thank you for your hospitality."
The Mayor said, "Please, considering how hard you've been working, it's the least we could do. And I'm sure we can continue to count on you."
"Of course!"
"Absolutely, we'll keep doing our best."
The people left, with everyone smiling and tucking in. At last that party was wrapped.
"That was delicious! Wow, man I'm so full!"
Shoji nodded. "You could really feel the love they put into their cooking."
"Moments like these really remind me why I wanted to become a hero."
"Yeah," —grinned Uraraka.
Kaminari called at Bakugou, "Kacchan of the Bakugos! We're gonna go get cleaned up and hit the sack. Night watch is all yours!"
"What?! Why me?!"
"Because you sat around the office all day," said Sero. With that, we headed to bed, our first night on the island over.
Though the real adventure was just beginning.
The next day started out the same as before, but as the sun was beginning to set, our power lines went out.
"Huh? Hey, guys, Im not getting a signal!"
"Me either."
"Same." Said Kaminari.
"Nothing," Jiro added.
"What's going on?" Said Iida.
"Don't tell me…" said Bakugou.
A car pulled up to the agency and a panicked looking islander leapt out.
" Hurry! There's a villain on the island!"
"A villain?"
"He's tearing apart the shopping center! Your people are trying to hold him back.
"Reporting in! We've got a villain down at the beach."
"What?" Bakugou cried.
"Ojiro is holding him off. But he needs help!"
"What's the plan?"
Iida took the initiative. "We act quickly and decisively. All right, everyone, we're fighting on two fronts, so we'll need to split up into teams. Bakugo, Kirishima, and Kaminari, intercept the villain at the shopping center! Yaoyorozu, Jiro, and Ashido, go with them to help with first-aid and evacuation. Todoroki, Sato, Sero, and Tokoyami, come with me to back up Ojiro at the beach. Uraraka and Koda, you'll be our relief evacuation team. This is a race against time."
I nodded. "We're the only heroes on this island, which means we're the only ones who can save the people here, so let's do our best, everyone! Are you ready, Class -A?"
"We've got work to do. Let's move out!"
Our crew headed out - me, Jirou, Ashido, Kaminari, Kirishima and Bakugou.
"I can't believe there's a villain here!" Said Kaminari as we headed towards the shopping center. "What if Class 1B is right and we are total villain magnets?"
"Don't be stupid," Jirou told him. "Villains show up everywhere."
"More and more recently," I murmured quietly. "But remember our mission: Evacuation."
We found Aoyama, Hagakure, Mineta and Ojiro fighting a villain covered in weird bandages, and not doing that great.
Aoyama groaned, "Ow. My belly is at its limit."
"My scalp isn't doing so great either!" Whined Mineta.
Hagakure shouted, "Mineta! Aoyama!"
Bakugou snapped, "The three of you can't even handle one villain? You guys are pathetic!"
"It's Bakugo!"
Kirishima shouted, "Red Riot is on the scene!"
Kaminari added, "Hey. Heard you could use some help."
"Merci!"
"Reinforcements?" Said the villain.
"Great timing, you guys!" Said Hagakure.
I called, "Let's go! We'll get people to safety and provide first-aid."
"Right!" Said Hagakure.
We headed over towards the shopping center, where civilians appeared to be running around in a panic.
I created a whistle and blew it loudly. Everyone stopped.
"Everyone! Please remain calm! Our team is on the scene to deal with the villain. For now, we need to proceed in an orderly fashion!"
Jirou stepped forward and gestured with her Earphone Jacks.
"I'll be able to hear anyone approaching - my quirk enhances my hearing!"
"And I," said Ashido, her acid sprawling out from her hands, "can melt anyone else who tries to mess with us!"
I held up my hand and gestured to the crowd. "Please form a line and head towards the center of the island!"
Then I turned to Jirou. "Can you listen for anyone in trouble or pinned?"
"Of course." She plugged in the other jack and listened carefully.
"There's someone in there," She pointed.
"Ashido," I prompted.
"On it. Where?" She asked Jiro. She pointed with my jack. "Right end of the mall, where things have collapsed.
She nodded and ran towards the building. I created a broadsword to make sure we had backup.
"What do you think about this villain, Yaomomo?" Asked Jirou.
"I'm not sure. We don't have much to go on yet. It's certainly a group of villains, and groups rarely assemble for pointless destruction just for fun. Plus, he was giving at least four of our classmates a difficult fight, meaning he's not an ordinary villain. There must be some reason behind this - and we'll have to look closer to find out what it is."
Ashido emerged, carrying the trapped person, who was limping slightly.
"Yazaru!" Cried a woman from the evacuation line; Ashido passed him off to her and rejoined us.
"That was all I found - anyone else, Jirou?"
"Not that I heard."
"Good - let's rejoin the others. Hopefully they've dealt with that villain!"
When we rushed back, we found the villain incapacitated, though Bakugou's gauntlets were in pieces on the ground.
"There you are!" I called.
"You good?"
"Yeah. That was too easy."
"Are the islanders okay?"
"Yes, we evacuated them to the western district."
Bakugou went blasting off.
"Wait! Where are you going?!" I asked.
"I'll leave the rescuing to you!"
"I'm gonna go crush the other villains!"
That impulsive boy.
