The next morning, Jay Halstead unlocked the door to the apartment he had shared with Hailey. The place was eerily quiet, and the emptiness hit him hard. He stepped inside, the echo of his footsteps amplifying the silence.

He walked through the apartment, memories flooding back with each step. When he reached the walk-in closet, he noticed a small box left behind. Curiosity piqued, he opened it and found a photo underneath.

Jay picked up the photo, his heart aching as he looked at it. It was a picture of him and Hailey, taken during happier times.

They were behind a tree, Hailey's lips pressed against his cheek while he stuck his tongue out playfully. The joy and love in their expressions were unmistakable.

Jay sat down, staring at the photo, trying to make sense of it all. He couldn't understand why Hailey would leave like that, without a word. They had been through so much together, and he thought they were stronger than this.

He felt a mix of confusion, hurt, and longing. The unanswered questions weighed heavily on him. Why had she left? What had driven her to make such a drastic decision?

As he sat there, lost in thought, Jay knew he had to find a way to move forward. But for now, all he could do was hold onto the memories and hope that someday, he would understand.

Jay walked into the bullpen, his expression somber. He carried a muffin and a cup of coffee, which he gently placed on Hailey's desk. It was a small gesture, but he hoped it would make a difference if she decided to come back.

Jay then moved to his own desk, sitting down and glancing over at Hailey's empty spot. The absence was palpable, and it weighed heavily on him.

Kevin Atwater noticed and nudged Adam Ruzek. "Hey, you see that? Jay's still holding out hope."

Adam nodded, his tone sympathetic. "Yeah, man. It's tough. I hope she comes back soon."

Antonio Dawson joined in, his voice low. "We all do. But we have to keep moving forward."

Jay, overhearing their comments, tried to focus on his work, but the concern for Hailey was evident in his eyes. He picked up his phone, contemplating calling her again, but hesitated.

Voight, observing the scene, walked over to Jay. "You okay, Halstead?"

Jay looked up, forcing a small smile. "Yeah, Sarge. Just… hoping she'll come back."

Voight nodded, understanding. "We all are. But we have a job to do. Let's stay focused."

Jay nodded, appreciating the support. As he tried to concentrate on his tasks, the rest of the unit continued their work, each member silently hoping for Hailey's return.

The bullpen was filled with the quiet hum of activity as the unit worked on their paperwork. Jay Halstead sat at his desk, his eyes frequently drifting over to Hailey's empty desk. The absence was a constant reminder of her sudden departure.

Kevin Atwater noticed Jay's distraction and leaned over to Adam Ruzek. "Man, Jay's really struggling without Hailey here," he whispered.

Adam nodded, glancing over at Jay. "Yeah, it's tough. They were close. I hope she's okay."

Antonio Dawson joined the conversation, his voice low. "We all do. But we have to keep moving forward. Jay will come around."

Voight, who had been observing the scene, walked over to Jay's desk. "Halstead, you alright?"

Jay looked up, forcing a small smile. "Yeah, Sarge. Just… trying to get used to things."

Voight nodded, understanding. "Take your time. But remember, we're here if you need anything."

Jay appreciated the support but couldn't shake the worry gnawing at him. He picked up his phone, contemplating calling Hailey again, but hesitated. The unanswered questions and her sudden departure weighed heavily on his mind.

The rest of the unit continued their work, each member silently hoping for Hailey's return.

Kim and Jay were on a routine patrol, driving through the city in Jay's truck. The morning sun cast a warm glow over the streets, and the atmosphere inside the truck was relaxed.

Kim glanced over at Jay, a playful smile on her lips. "So, Halstead, how's it feel to be stuck with me today?"

Jay chuckled, his eyes twinkling. "Honestly, Burgess, it's not so bad. You're good company."

Kim raised an eyebrow, teasingly. "Just good company? I was hoping for a bit more praise."

Jay smirked, playing along. "Alright, fine. You're great company. Happy now?"

Kim laughed, shaking her head. "Much better. So, any big plans for the weekend?"

Jay shrugged, keeping his eyes on the road. "Not really. Might just relax, maybe catch a game. What about you?"

Kim leaned back in her seat, her smile widening. "I was thinking about hitting up that new coffee shop downtown. Heard they have amazing pastries."

Jay glanced over at her, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Are you inviting me, Burgess?"

Kim pretended to think about it. "Maybe. If you're lucky."

Jay laughed, the sound filling the truck. "Well, I'll take my chances."

Kim and Jay walked back into the bullpen, chatting and laughing about their patrol. As they turned a corner, they accidentally bumped into each other, causing Kim to drop her files.

"Oops, sorry about that," Jay said, quickly bending down to help her pick up the papers.

Kim laughed, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. "No worries, Halstead. I should watch where I'm going."

As they straightened up, the rest of the unit couldn't help but notice the interaction. Kevin Atwater smirked and nudged Adam Ruzek. "Look at those two. They're like a rom-com waiting to happen."

Adam grinned. "Yeah, we should come up with a ship name for them."

Antonio Dawson joined in, chuckling. "How about 'Burgstead'?"

Kevin laughed. "I like it. 'Burgstead' it is."

Jay and Kim, overhearing the conversation, exchanged amused glances. Jay shook his head, a smile tugging at his lips. "You guys are ridiculous."

Kim couldn't help but laugh. "Yeah, but it's kind of cute."
