While I like What If Universe's "Stronger Together: Book 3 of the Spider-Verse" (though the idea of Kara and a new love interest moving on from loss did inspire this story), I couldn't have it be canon with "Four Peters Vs the Sinister Six" and "The Speedster and the Spider" (so this story is) cause I needed Earth-1 Post-Crisis to just have one Peter Parker.

So my option for Supergirl was to give her a love interest from her show, but there was no way in hell I was going to do James Olsen or (ugh) Adam Foster. I like Mon-El, but I thought what happened in the show should be canon because it helped the idea of this story. And as much as I like Lena Luthor, not gonna do that ship in this story.

Supergirl is the property of DC Comics and Warner Bros.

Chapter 1

Time.

Space.

Reality.

It's more than a linear path. It's a prism of endless possibility, where a single choice can branch out into infinite realities, creating alternate worlds from the ones you know. I am the Watcher. I am your guide through these vast new realities. Follow me and ponder the question... "What if?"

Earth-1 of Metaverse J was quite similar to that of Earth-1 of Metaverse W (up until the 2020s). It was pretty much the same for most of the Justice League, except for Supergirl.

In Metaverse W and what was originally Earth-38 (before the Crisis on Infinite Earths), Kara Zor-El aka Kara Danvers aka Supergirl, fell in love and married Holel Ren, otherwise known as that universe's Peter Parker aka Spider-Man. Like Superman, he was a baby sent from Krypton to Earth to avoid the former's destruction. Only, he was half Kryptonian/half human, giving him different powers than Kara and Superman. But after the Crisis on Infinite Earths, he and the Peter Parker of Central City both existed, due to Holel Ren's alien differences. But Holel Ren never existed on Earth-1 of Metaverse J, there was no Spider-Man of Krypton. The only Peter Parker on that world was a human given spider abilities from a radioactive spider. Post-Crisis, he was replaced with the Peter Parker of Earth-1.

Much like Caitlin Snow, several men in several universes loved Kara. Such as Peter Parker, Barry Allen, Oliver Queen, Mon-El (in universes where he stayed in the present), and Steve Rogers. This is the story of how Kara Danvers took another glance at her best friend, Winslow "Winn" Schott Jr.

Earth-38, June 2017

It has been a few days since Supergirl and Lillian Luthor stopped the Daxamite invasion. Kara was still grieving for losing Mon-El in this whole mess, but she decided that it was time to return to her duties as Supergirl.

"Are you sure you're ok to work today?" Her sister, Alex, asked her. "No one would blame you if you spent a few more days to grieve. God knows Winn did."

"I can't just wallow in my apartment by myself, eating ice cream and watching daytime TV." She replied back.

"Well you could always stream something on Netflix or Hulu." Alex quipped.

Kara smiled at her sister cheering her up, but then realized she just said something a minute ago that made her curious.

"Uh, what did you mean by, "God knows Winn did?"" Kara asked.

"You don't know?" She asks, a little sad, knowing the answer. Kara shakes her head, still confused. ""Lyra died. She was among the casualties when the Daxamites fired on the city."

Kara looks at Alex with wide eyes. She can't believe that both she and Winn have lost the ones they love…and it was all her fault.

"I have to go talk to him." Kara insisted.

"I don't know, Kara, I think he wants to be alone."

"I once said the same after arriving on Earth. I wanted to mourn Krypton alone, but remember what you told me?"

"I said that we could be alone together. So I sat next to you." Alex remembers before sighing in begrudgingly agreement. "Ok, go to him."

Kara smirks before speeding away.

Kara then goes to knock on the door of Winn's apartment (dressed back in her civilian clothes).

"Winn? It's me, Kara." No answer from the other side. "Winn, if you don't answer the door, I'll open it myself, I'll even pay to replace it, but I'd rather not. At least let me apologize face to face."

It's then that Winn finally opens the door. He's dressed in sweatpants and a Star Wars T-shirt. He has a bit of stubble and his hair is a bit shaggy. His eyes are red and puffy from crying.

"What do you mean?" He asked.

"If I hadn't let Mon leave with his parents when they first asked us, then maybe the Daxamites wouldn't have attacked the city and we wouldn't have lost the ones we love. Winn, I'm so sorry. I'll understand if you don't want to be my friend anymore." She tells him as she starts to well up.

But Winn leans forward and hugs her.

"Come on in." He tells her. She does so as he closes the door behind her and the two sit down on the couch, but not before Winn clears it of discarded tissues. "Sorry about the mess…and I guess I smell and look pretty bad."

"Trust me, I didn't exactly smell like roses or look like a picture a few days ago either."

"Look, Kara, it's not your fault. For all you had known, the Daxamites could have gone back on their word once they had Mon back."

"You're probably right." Kara agreed, feeling a bit happier. Something Winn always managed to do for her. She then gave him a big hug. "I was gonna go back to being Supergirl and keep busy with work. But I'm starting to feel better now that I'm with you."

"I feel the same, thanks for coming."

"We should help each other mourn. When I first came to Earth and was mourning for my friends, family, and everything else about Krypton, I wanted to mourn alone, but Alex stayed in the same room and said we could be alone together."

"Well, Alex was always wise. I think it's a good idea to help each other. We haven't done much together since you pushed Fort Rozz into space."

"I'll admit, part of it was training Mon, befriending Mon, and dating Mon. But to be fair, you also spent a lot of time helping James with his vigilantism."

Winn chuckled. "Touché."

"But seriously, let's make time. I don't want you to feel alone and unwanted." She told him solemnly.

"I don't want you to feel the same way either." He replied.

The Watcher looked upon them.

No one knows how their decisions will change their future. But Kara's decision to comfort her friend and he in turn comforted her, would not only strengthen their friendships, but would see these soulmates eventually come to love each other as more than friends.

Six months later.

Kara had just entered the DEO, after stopping robbers in their getaway car.

"Nice job, Supergirl." Winn says with joy, give his friend a high five.

"Thanks, Winn" She replies with a big smile, receiving his high five.

In the months since they started to help each other mourn, they became closer friends, even more so than they did a few years ago. The Watcher narrated.

"Are we still on to watch the "Jurassic Park" movies tonight?" Winn asked.

"Yep. I'll bring the snacks. You bring the Chinese food and don't forget-" Kara told him.

"-To get pot stickers. I know, I know. How could I ever forget your favorite food?"

"Yeah, you never have." She replied. "Alex, you and J'onn gonna to join us."

"Unfortunately, there are still D.E.O. matters that I need to attend to and I'll be quite busy." J'onn told them.

"Maggie and I are swamped with wedding planning." Alex told them.

"Oh well. Then unless Lena and James are busy too, I guess it's just us, Winn." Kara told him, who nodded and had a bit of a nervous smile that he tried to hide.

Later that day, Kara called Lena, who told her that she already got tickets for a production of "Wicked" that she got months in advance to see with James.

"You don't have any extra work here, do you?" Alex asked J'onn sometime after Kara and Winn left for the day.

"Naw, just wanted the two love birds left alone for their date." He replied.

""Love birds?""

"I've noticed after the Daxamite invasion, that the two were starting to get quite close with each other. After everything with Mon and Lyra, they deserve each other."

Alex raised an eyebrow at this, she did notice that

Later that night at Winn's apartment

"How many of these movies did they make?" Kara asks as she looks at "The Lost World: Jurassic Park," and they are up to the point where they get to the island and come across the heard of Stegosaurus'.

"Let's see, counting this trilogy and the newest one; Jurassic World, four." Winn says as he sits down with a bowl of popcorn with him.

"You know, you'd think by now, they'd know going to that island is a bad idea." Kara states.

"Technically, they said this is the second island." Winn corrects her as he takes a handful of popcorn. "The first Island was for the Park, the second one is for the babies to be born and moved to the park."

"Didn't they have eggs hatching in the first park?" Kara asks him while on the screen, Sara is petting the baby Stegosaurus.

"After the Mr. D.N.A. video or the ones they find in the wild?"

"First one, since wild ones weren't planned because they didn't think the frog D.N.A. would cause the dinosaurs the ability to change their gender."

"It could be that the other ones were mostly for display, like touring a factory."

"Then why was the DNA that Dedry stole on the first island? Shouldn't it be at the "factory floor" as Hammond put it?"

"Hmm, good point." Winn says. "Unless there were copies at both-"

"Ok! Just shut up and watch the movie!" Kara says as she (lightly) throws some popcorn at Winn.

"Ok, ok." He relented.

Around the time they got to the Third film, Kara laid her head on Winn's shoulder. Winn noticed this. His heart was starting to race and old feelings that he thought were buried were starting to resurface.

A/N: And that's the first chapter!

Part of this chapter is inspired by chapter 41 of "Stronger Together." I did expand the Jurassic Park viewing scene, mostly because I mostly disagreed with the plot hole about the eggs, since What If Universe didn't clarify. If he meant the eggs after the Mr DNA video, then I agree, but argue that it's more of a continuity error, since the book for Lost World was written after "Jurassic Park (1993)" was released. The eggs in the wild were of course not planned and are part of the theme of the franchise that while man plans, nature goes against that.
