Okay, this is a short one, but I thought if I added a page break or skip, it may take away from the importance of the chapter...I hope you all enjoy it.
As a quick disclaimer, I do not own the world of Twilight or its characters..thank you, and have a great day.
Dru sat still as Carlisle delicately tended to her injuries, his touch gentle yet firm. She couldn't help but flinch when he reached her injured fingers, the pain shooting through her like a bolt of lightning. Trying to distract herself, she quipped, "So, did you miss your favorite patient?"
Carlisle's gaze lifted to meet hers, a mixture of annoyance and affection flickering in his golden eyes. Despite his disapproval, he couldn't help but let a small smile tug at the corner of his lips. "I thought you had learned your lesson," he muttered, his hands pausing momentarily as he gathered his thoughts. She sensed him exhale slowly, his eyes momentarily darting away before he regained his composure.
"I've warned you time and time again not to engage with the supernatural," he continued, his voice firm and laced with concern. "You're lucky this time, Dru. But it would be best if you were more cautious in the future.
"Daddy Cullen," Dru retorted with a mischievous grin, "I don't go looking for trouble with Nomads, but Jacob caught me off guard." She wrinkled her nose in distaste. "I should have known better with the whole werewolf thing. Not my favorite creatures, to say the least."
Carlisle sighed, a mixture of exasperation and affection in his expression as he quickly fetched the necessary bandages. "With your track record, I have a feeling this won't be the last time you end up in my office for the same reason," he remarked, his tone tinged with a hint of amusement. "Your wrist is sprained, and luckily your fingers are just bruised, not broken. It could have been much worse." As he carefully, wrapped her injuries, his fingers deft and gentle, Dru couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude towards the vampire doctor who always seemed to be there to patch her up, no matter how many times she landed herself in trouble.
Dru's gaze drifted away from Carlisle's, her expression growing more somber as a weighty realization settled in her mind. "Carlisle," she began, her voice soft yet firm, "the Volturi know about Bella and I. This puts you and your coven in danger, because of us."
His brow furrowed slightly, a mixture of concern and reassurance entering his eyes as he reached out to comfort her. "That's not something you should bear alone. We were aware of the risks when we welcomed both of you into our family," he replied gently, his voice filled with understanding.
"Carlisle," Dru interjected, cutting him off with a sense of determination, "this burden is mine to carry. Bella and I uncovered the truth on our own. You didn't disclose it to us; we delved into a world we had no business meddling in." Meeting his gaze once more, she held his gold eyes with her own mix-matched ones a sense of resolve, ready to face the consequences of their actions head-on.
He offered a strained smile, the weight of the situation evident in his eyes. "What's done is done," he echoed softly.
Dru shook her head, her gaze drifting to the cross that hung over Carlisle's chair before returning to meet his eyes. "I have no desire to enter your world. I care deeply for every one of you, but I understand that immortality is not a simple gift," she said a hint of sadness in her voice. "However, if turning into a vampire is what it takes to ensure the safety of you and your coven, then I will accept the transformation. It's not what I want, but I will do what needs to be done."
Carlisle gently cupped her chin in his hand, his touch soft and reassuring. "I don't believe that will be necessary," he murmured, his gaze soft yet firm.
"The Volturi are aware of our existence Bella's and mine...our days as mortals are numbered," Dru stated, her gaze steady and unwavering. "I just hope that when the clock runs out, there will still be a place for me here...if that's acceptable with you."
Carlisle smiled warmly before enveloping Dru in a gentle embrace. "You will always have a place here," he whispered. "It would be an honor to have both you and your sister join my coven.
Dru beamed as she returned the hug, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "I just hope Lovebug is prepared to share Rose," she teased, her grin widening.
Just then, the imposing figure of the strongest member of the Cullen coven strode into the roos as if he owned the place. "No," he stated firmly, pointing directly at her.
Turning towards Emmett, Dru could sense the amusement rippling through him as she spoke. "What's the matter, Lovebug? Afraid I might outdo you in the kissing department?" She teased, a playful glint in her eyes.
Emmett's gaze narrowed his expression a mix of mock seriousness and underlying amusement. "Not a chance," he retorted confidently, his playfulness shining through.
"Now, Lovebug," Dru continued, placing a hand over her heart in mock offense, "are you saying you're not up for the challenge of having two lovely ladies by your side?" With a dramatic flair, she leaned back into Carlisle. "Oh, Daddy Cullen, why does he insist on causing me such distress?"
Emmett's eyes widened in surprise. "I didn't say that," he protested, turning to Carlisle for support. "Did, I?"
"Don't drag me into your antics," Carlisle replied with a faint smile, choosing to stay out of their banter. "Now, both of you out of my office," he declared, starting to tidy up his medical supplies. "And, Dru, no more punching werewolves."
Dru shook her head, with a smirk. "Can't make any promises. Jacob Black is insufferable."
Emmett looked at her thoughtfully. "I could take care of him for you," he offered.
"No, this girl fights her own battles," Dru replied, with a determined glint in her eye.
She chuckled, as Emmett playfully lifted her into his arms, his strength effortlessly carrying her downstairs to join the rest of the Cullen family. Despite the light-hearted moment, her mood shifted when Bella broached the topic of her potential transformation into a vampire, seeking the family's opinion. As the discussion continued to unfold, most of the Cullens expressed their support for Bella's decision, with only two holding reservations. Dru let out a soft sigh, her head finding its place on Rosalie's shoulder as she sat on the couch, her thoughts swirling with a mix of concern and uncertainty.
Dru felt Bella's gaze upon her, the concern evident in her twin's eyes. With a slight nod from her position on her couch, she acknowledged her exhaustion. "I'm okay, just tired, Bella," she murmured. "It's been a long night"
Alice's voice cut through the air, her usual bright features darkened by a frown. "You'll have a chance to rest soon, but before you do, there is something we need to discuss," she stated, her tone serious...which was odd coming from the pixie-like Cullen. The hiss that her sister gave, with the immediate head shake, as if Bella was begging for Alice not to continue.
Dru sat up, a heavy sigh escaping her as she addressed the impending conversation. "If this is about the Volturi knowing about me and the dangers it poses," she began, her gaze shifting between Bella and Alice, "I'm aware that most of you already overheard my conversation with Carlisle." After a brief pause, she continued, her voice tinged with resignation. "Bella, if it comes down to a choice between me becoming a vampire to protect this family...then that is the path I'll take."
"But you don't have to..." Bella started, concern etched on her face.
You're right, Bella. I don't want this life," Dru interjected, her tone firm as she avoided making eye contact. "But we were the ones who sought out the truth, delving into a world we had no business in. It was only a matter of time before the consequences caught up with us."
"Doll," Bella began, her gaze pleading as she looked at her sister. "You don't fully grasp the gravity of the situation."
"Oh, I understand more than you give me credit for. I comprehend the laws, I listened intently when your... boy toy explained it all to us," Dru retorted, her eyes locking with Bella's in a challenging glare, "I knew the instant the Volturi became away of our existence, our time was limited. Perhaps there was a sliver of hope before when they were unaware of us, but now they know..." she sighed, turning away from her sister. Deciding to turn her attention to Rosalie, a small genuine smile tugging at her lips. "Looks like you're stuck with me, Rose."
Rosalie let out a soft laugh, a mix of emotions dancing in her eyes. "I'm not sure if I should be happy about that," she replied, a single tear streaking down her flawless cheek. Dru reached out, catching the venom-filled tear gently before leaning to press a soft kiss on her friend's cheek.
Dru turned her attention to Alice, as the vampire made a noise to draw everyone's attention back towards her. The tension in the room was palpable as Alice fidgeted, her usually composed demeanor showing signs of unease.
"Dru, I've always seen you as a vampire, but there is something more," Alice began, her words hesitant and cautious. It was evident that she was struggling to articulate whatever information she held. The room fell into a heavy silence, each member of the coven occasionally glancing at one another, holding their breath, waiting for Alice to reveal whatever she had seen.
Dru's eyes widened, it was as if a silent shock overtook her as Alice finally whispered the truth, the human girl's breath caught in her throat. As soon as the words left her friend's mouth, it took her a moment to comprehend what she just said. A ringing went through her ear when the names of the Volturi kings were whispered from Alice...and then to discovered they were her mates. Looking at Alice, her expression was a mix of disbelief and confusion.
"The true mate, to Aro, Marcus, and Caius? Me?" She asked, looking at her friend for clarification. The weight of the words that she echoed, settling on her shoulders, the implications of the connection left her head reeling. Her vision began to fade, as she tried to process it all. Dizziness washed over her, as the room began to spin, voices becoming distant, echoes in the background. She vaguely registered Edward's concern and Carlisle's voice before everything faded to black, consciousness slipping away, as the overwhelming truth overtook her.
So I know short, but what did you all think...I promise there will be a much longer chapter next, and did I get a good clarification when Alice told everyone...I thought it would be redundant if Alice said it, and then we got the emotion..but to have it hinted at...and then capture Dru's emotions at the revelations before passing out, I thought it was a nice touch.
