October 2024

The front door creaked open, a familiar sound that sent a jolt of anticipation through Bo. He stood up from the chair, a warm smile spreading across his face as Nora entered, her cheeks flushed from the brisk autumn air. She dropped her suitcase with a sigh, her eyes sparkling as they met his.

"Bo!" she exclaimed, rushing into his arms. "What a surprise! I didn't expect to see you here."

He chuckled, holding her close, savoring the scent of her lavender perfume. "Couldn't let my favorite redhead come home from Port Charles without a proper welcome."

"It's so good to be home," Nora said as she pulled Bo close for a long kiss.

"I missed you, Red."

"I missed you, too. I'm going upstairs to take a shower and change into something comfortable. I can't wait to hear all about what's been going on in Llanview while I've been gone."

When Nora returned, she and Bo spent the next two hours catching up on what each had missed over the last week. Bo told Nora about Matthew and Destiny coming by with their kids, Drew, who was entering his teenage years and was starting to show his defiant Buchanan side, and his sister Felicity, who was turning six next week.

"Felicity has been talking non-stop about her birthday party next week," Bo said, "and she can't wait for you to call her tomorrow so she can tell you all about it."

"Bo, can you believe the life we have now?" Nora said incredulously. "Who would have ever thought this is where we would end up after everything we've gone through."

As the night wore on, a wistful silence fell between them. Bo reached for Nora's hand, his gaze tender. "You know, I've been thinking a lot lately about the past myself," he confessed. "About all the moments we missed, all the chances we didn't take."

Nora squeezed his hand, her heart aching with empathy. "Me too, Bo. There are so many things I wish we could do over."

"I had this this vivid dream almost every night while you were away," Bo said.

"Tell me about it," Nora replied, as she led him to their bedroom and they both fell into the comfort of the bed they had shared for the last 15 years.

Bo told Nora about the dream, a dream that transported him back to the year of Matthew's birth. He described the dream, his voice thick with emotion, as Nora listened with rapt attention.

"I'm there, Nora," he whispered, his eyes glistening with unshed tears. "I'm holding your hand, feeling every contraction, every wave of pain. I'm there when Matthew takes his first breath, when they place him on your chest. It's so real, so vivid… I can almost feel the weight of him in my arms."

Nora squeezed his hand, her heart aching for the missed moments and the what-ifs that plagued his dreams. "I wish you could have been there, Bo," she said softly. "But we can't change the past. All we can do is cherish the memories we have and create new ones."

Bo nodded, a hopeful glint in his eyes. "Do you ever wonder... what if we could?"

Nora's breath caught in her throat. She knew what he was implying, the impossible dream they had shared on many a sleepless night. "That moment is one I wish I could change. I wish it was you in the delivery room holding my hand and feeding me ice chips, not Sam." she whispered, her voice barely audible.

"There are so many things I would do differently, Red, but even if I could change the course of our lives, I would still end up right here, right in this very moment holding you in my arms."

"I suppose you're right," Nora said, rising from the couch and taking Bo's hand. "Maybe we can't change the past, but we can cherish the memories, and even the hard moments that made us who we are."

Bo leaned over to kiss his wife like he had so many times before.

"I'm sorry, Red, and I will be forever."

"I know, but everything worked out in the end." Nora smiled and kissed Bo one more time before closing her eyes.

Bo wished he could sleep, but thoughts of the past would not leave his subconscious, and sleep was evading him.

Moonlight bathed the bedroom in a soft glow as Bo and Nora lay together, the rhythmic rise and fall of their chests the only sound in the quiet house. Bo's arm draped protectively over Nora, his thumb gently tracing circles on her arm. He has watched her like this for so many nights, studying the magic of his wife. He knows every curve of her body. He reaches out to touch her cheek with a tender smile, his heart overflowing with love. His gaze lingers on the gentle rise and fall of her chest, the curve of her lips, the faint lines etched around her eyes - each a testament to their shared life, a life filled with passion, heartache, and unwavering devotion.

He closes his eyes for a moment, and when he opens them, Nora is still there, but they are no longer in bed. They are standing in the middle of Angel Square. Nora is younger. Her hair is longer and fiery red, her skin is porcelain and unmarred by the passage of time. Out of the corner of his eye, Bo catches a newspaper box with a headline in large, bold font: "Are You Y2K Ready?"

"Red?" He wasn't sure if what he is seeing before him is real, so he calls out to Nora.

"Yes, Bo?"

She had been standing with her back toward him, and as she turned around, he could see the swell of her stomach under her coat.

Nora's eyes met Bo's gaze, a silent understanding between them. Bo walked toward her, his heart pounding with a mixture of dread and elation. He didn't know if this was a dream or if he was in some alternate reality, but the realization hit him like a ton of bricks. He and Nora had somehow been catapulted back to 1999 - the year of Matthew's birth.
