Flashback: 1940's, Brooklyn, New York
A small-looking Steven stands outside his apartment door with Lars, Sadie, and Connie talking to him as they found him after his mother's funeral before Connie and Steven lived together. The three try to comfort Steven, and Lars offers to stay with him.
As the three stand behind Steven, Lars tells Steven, "We can put the couch cushion on the floor like when we were kids. It'll be fun. All you gotta do is shine my shoes, maybe take out the trash." Lars looks down and sees Steven checking all his pockets for his apartment key. Connie smiles a bit, shaking her head at Steven for his forgetfulness as she stands beside Sadie, who watches Lars as he kicks a brick aside, revealing a key. He picks it up, steps forward, and gives the key to Steven. He says knowingly, "Come on."
Steven takes the key gratefully, looks down at it for a second, and then looks back at Lars, "Thank you, Lars, but I can get by on my own." He looks at the girls.
Connie assures Steven, "The thing is, you don't have to." Steven looks at her lovingly.
Lars gives Steven a friendly pat and squeezes his shoulder, making Steven look at him, "I'm with you till the end of the line, pal." Steven smiles at Lars, who then lets go of his shoulder.
Connie steps forward and grabs Steven's hand, squeezing it softly, "Always."
Present Time: Bridge
Steven's thoughts of Lars, Connie, and Sadie are interrupted by Mordecai, who joins him on the bridge. Steven stands on the bridge, looking out in the distance with his hands in his pant pockets.
Mordecai states, "They're gonna be there, you know." He's talking about Lars and Connie.
Steven doesn't move as he says, "I know."
Mordecai stops a couple of feet from Steven, facing him, "Look, whoever they used to be and the people they are now, I don't think they're the kind you save. They're the kind you stop."
Steven tells Mordecai honestly, "I don't know if I can do that."
Mordecai tells Steven pointedly, "Well, they might not give you a choice. They don't know you."
Steven looks at Mordecai, "They will." He looks back out in the distance, "Gear up. It's time." Steven turns in the other direction and walks off.
Mordecai sighs quietly in defeat. He calls out, "You gonna wear that?"
Steven walks and looks at Mordecai over his right shoulder, "No. If you're gonna fight a war, you gotta wear a uniform."
Inside: Smithsonian Museum
Captain Universe Exhibit
In the Smithsonian Museum in the Captain Universe exhibit area, a guard walking across the exhibit as the light turns on, revealing the guard to be Stan Lee, creator of Marvel, turns his head and abruptly stops walking as he looks over to the Captain Universe and the Crystal Gems costume displays, says in panic, "Oh, man." He sighs and shakes his head, "I am so fired." He sees that the Captain Universe WWII uniform on the dummy mannequin has been stolen. The only thing left was Steven's old stage shield.
Outside: Woods
In the tree line, Tambry leads Marcy, Mordecai, Mabel, and Steven towards the Triskelion, SHIELD Headquarters. Everyone is wearing their suits: Tambry wearing her SHIELD suit, Marcy wearing her SHIELD suit with her special bow and arrows on her back, Mordecai wearing his Falcon suit and wing pack, Mabel wearing a thin, tight onesie jumpsuit, and Steven wearing his old Captain Universe suit from the 1940s, aka his very first suit.
They stop and look out to see the Triskelion building in the distance. They walk again, and Mabel secretly taps her Pines watch screen twice and scans her thumbprint. It lights green, and she continues to walk casually forward.
Pines Tower: New York
Inside: Mabel's Lab / Workshop
At the Pines Tower in New York, in Mabel's lab/workshop, a section from the far wall opens up, and a silver and red pod shoots out. A window automatically opens, and the pod flies out the window.
Outside: Sky
The silver and red pod turns and rounds the building, flying in a direction.
Inside: The Triskelion, SHIELD Headquarters
Floor Of Project Insight
Agents are working around and on the Helicarriers as they prepare to launch them in the air. A man in the PA says, "We are in final launch sequence."
Inside: Monitor Controls Room
The big screen says 'INSIGHT LAUNCH' with the countdown being, '02:09:59'. Many SHIELD agents in the room, some or many. are HYDRA agents, hiding in plain sight as the SHIELD agents have no clue they are working for/with the enemy.
Many agents are at their computers/areas, some standing behind others, conversing, and some standing and walking around.
SHIELD agent tech-specialist Cameron Klein (From Chapter 12) has a headset on and speaks in his mic as he types in his computer, "We are go on guidance."
A woman's voice on the PA says, "All personnel to launch stations.
Lobby / Entrance
Nathan leads the World Security Council through the lobby as they arrive at the Triskelion, some agents on guard following close behind as they walk. Nathan asks Councilwoman Hawley while she walks on his right, "And how was your flight?"
Councilwoman Hawley answers Nathan, "Lovely. The ride from the airport, less so."
Nathan tells Hawley, "Sadly, SHIELD can't control everything."
Councilman Rockwell adds bitterly, "Including Captain Universe and Iron Woman." Nathan sighs and rolls his eyes, annoyed at his comment. They walk up to one of the guards, who hands Nathan a case containing four pins.
Nathan tells the council members, "This facility is biometrically controlled." He holds out the open case to the council, "And these will give you unrestricted access." Each council member takes a pin to wear on their suit collars.
COMM Room
Project Insight is also being controlled and monitored in another control room in a different area of Triskelion. Two male tech agents are talking in their seats by the computers.
Male com-tech 1 states, "I've been parking there for two months."
Male com-tech 2 tells tech guy 1, "But it's his spot."
Male com-tech 1 asks, a bit annoyed, "So where's he been?"
Male com-tech 2 tells tech guy 1, "I think Afghanistan."
Male com-tech 1 informs in his earpiece, "Negative DT Six. The pattern is full." He looks and says to his colleague, "Well, he could have said something."
Suddenly, all the agents sitting by the computers with earpiece on hear a sharp, high-pitched feedback noise come through their earpieces. They lean forward and cry out, and tech-guy 2 cries out, "Ahh!"
Tech guy 1 cries out, "Ow!" The agents remove their earpieces and look at their screens to determine what happened.
Male com-tech 2 guesses as he looks at the screen, "Must be the dish."
Male com-tech 1 sighs, "I'll check it out." He stands from his chair.
As male com-tech 1 goes to the door and scans his ID card, a man's voice on the PA says, "Triskelion command request we clear the area for launch." Tech guy 1 ID card unlocks the door. He opens it, only to face Mordecai/Blue Jay and Marcy/Hawkeye, their guns raised at him, Steven/Captain Universe and Mabel stepping forward with Tambry/Crystal Dove on the other side of the door, her gun raised at him, Tech guy 1's eyes widen in surprise and fear.
Steven/Captain Universe calmly tells tech guy 1, "Excuse us." Tech guy 1 immediately holds his hands up, pointing inside the room as he steps aside to let them enter. One by one, they all enter: Mabel, Steven/Captain Universe, Tambry/Crystal Dove, Marcy/Hawkeye, and Mordecai/Blue Jay.
World Security Council Meeting Room
Nathan tells the World Security Council members a toast as they stand in the meeting room with the large glass-computers screen/wall, showing the Project Insight countdown, everyone with a glass of champagne in hand, "I know the road hasn't exactly been smooth, and some you would have gladly kicked me out of the car along the way." He looks at the glass screen behind him with the council members looking as well, "Finally, we're here." Nathan turns back to the council members, "And the world should be grateful." Nathan raises his glass with the council members doing the same, but Hawley hesitantly does as well.
As the council members and Nathan drink their champagne to Nathan's toast, Steven's voice suddenly comes from the PA system, "Attention all SHIELD agents. This is Steven Universe." The council members look up, confused, and Nathan's face drops and tenses in his spot at Steven's voice.
Inside: Monitor Control Room
Everyone in the monitor control room looks up at the sound of Steven's voice, along with Agent 13, "You've heard a lot about me and my associate Mabel Pines over the last few days."
Lobby / Entrance
Many agents/people walking in and out of the building look up and stop walking as they listen to Mabel's voice, "Some of you were even ordered to hunt us down."
COMM Room
Steven/Captain Universe and Mabel lean forward with their hands on the computer panel, two microphones in front of them. Steven is not wearing his helmet. Both expressions are serious and sad. They have the SHIELD microphones on so everyone in the building can hear. Mabel speaks as she glances at Steven, "But we think it's time you know the truth."
Steven/Captain Universe takes a second before he speaks, "SHIELD is not what we thought it was. It's been taken over by HYDRA."
World Security Council Meeting Room
Nathan stepped away from the council, looking uncomfortable as Mabel's voice on the PA said, "General Nathan is their leader." All the council members looked at Nathan, who didn't deny it. He raised and dropped his eyebrows quickly and tilted his head a bit as he passed the small table that's holding the ice bucket and champagne bottle along with his glass.
Underground Floor
Jasper and her team walk forward towards the elevators. Mabel's voice on the PA says, "The STRIKE and Insight crew are HYDRA as well." Jasper silently instructs Bismuth with her two fingers, flicking her wrist forward and pointing at the other elevator. Bismuth looks back at the men and points behind her to the left with her right thumb, walking away with a few agents following her.
COMM Room
Steven/Captain Universe glances at Mabel on his right as he speaks into the microphone in front of him, "We don't know how many more, but we know they're in the building."
Inside: Monitor Control Room
Many agents listened to Steven's voice, looking at one another cautiously, "They could be standing right next to you."
World Security Council Meeting Room
The council members stare at Nathan, who's not fazed by their looks and stares. He takes out his cell phone and taps the screen as he paces in the room.
Steven's voice continues on the PA, "They almost have what they want."
Outside: Quinjets Platform
Agents and pilots stand on a platform where the Quinjets are parked, listening to Steven's voice on the PA, "Absolute Control."
