When Monday came, Sonic and Tails chose to walk to college together. It would take them longer, sure, but they enjoyed the time spent before they'd be separated by classes. After they agreed to start dating, the two had spent the rest of their weekend together- Tails even stayed the night at Sonic's house, it had been the most fun either of them had ever had.

Sonic entered the pristine building first, with Tails following close behind.

Their conversation was interrupted, however, when a high-pitched voice called out: "Hey Sonic!"

The two boys shot a glance at the intruder, Tails fiddling.

"I just want to say, congrats!" Amy cheered, grabbing Sonic's hands and holding them in her own.

"Er, for what?" Sonic blushed.

"For getting a girlfriend, duh!" Amy giggled, rolling her eyes as she spoke.

Tails' mouth went dry.

At this point a small crowd was forming around the three, people whispering and pointing at Tails and Sonic. Sonic himself backed up from Amy, practically shielding Tails, who was glaring at the ground.

"Uhh, er, I uh…" Sonic looked at Tails with pleading eyes. Finally, the golden fox looked up at him.

"It's okay." Tails whispered.

Sonic gulped, then put on a thin smile for Amy.

"Uhh, thank you, Amy Rose!"

Amy, who was oblivious to the two boys' nervousness, did a little bow. "You're welcome! You two sure are a cute couple, though I didn't think you were into goths, Sonic!"

The bell rang and the crowd started to dissipate, students heading to class, along with Amy.

When they were mostly alone in the halls, Sonic put a reassuring hand on Tails' shoulder.

"I'm sorry, dude, I don't usually freeze like that under pressure. You okay?"

"I'm fine," Tails growled. "Let's get to class, okay?"

"Alright… I love you."

"I love you too."

Sonic and Tails were in separate classes for most of the day, except for one class they shared right before the last bell. Sonic was sad to see that Tails didn't attend class, he wondered where the pretty fox was at the time.

When the bell rang and it was time to go home, Sonic rushed out of the class room and started scanning the halls. He tried asking people around, but most of them didn't know who Tails was, and the ones that did were unhelpful.

In his haste Sonic accidentally ran into Amy, slamming into her and causing them both to let out an "OOF"

Sonic shook his head and looked up, he gasped. "Oh, Amy, I'm sorry!" He stood and helped the girl off of the floor, dusting himself off once she was stabilized.

"It's okay, why are you in such a rush? The exit is that way, silly!" Amy giggled.

"I'm trying to find Tails, do you know where he… Where she is?" Sonic cringed as he whispered the last part.

"Your girlfriend? I don't know, last I saw her she was headed for the bathroom. She looked upset, but when I looked for her, she wasn't there!" Amy suddenly puffed out her cheeks and crossed her arms. "You didn't make her cry, did you!? You know it's VERY rude to make a girl cry! You have to be delicate with us girls!"

Sonic put his hands up defensively, as if Amy would hit him. He didn't know why, but that just felt natural. "No! It's not that, I would never!" After Amy calmed down, Sonic continued: "Thank you, I'll go look for Tails there."

Sonic made to run off, but Amy quickly tugged at his arm, catching his attention once more.

"Sonic wait!"

"What is it?"

Amy smiled, looking Sonic in the eyes. "You know, as a kid I used to have a really big crush on you. I don't think you ever noticed, but that's okay. I'm really glad you found someone you like, it really is a special thing when you fall in love!" Amy blushed. "Treat Tails well, okay? And let me know if you need any advice, I am a GIRL after all!" Amy winked and elbowed Sonic softly.

Sonic was a little confused, but he smiled nonetheless. "Thank you, Amy, you've been very helpful."

Sonic then dashed off, down the halls and towards the bathrooms. The boys and girls bathrooms were only a hall down from each other, Sonic skidded to a stop in front of the door to the boys bathroom.

He pushed it open and tentatively stepped inside. There was Tails, standing at the sinks and staring into the mirror. He had definitely been crying, and it looked like he'd tried to use water to slick his bangs back- But they were too long, so now he just looked messy.

"Tails?" Sonic placed a hand on the fox's shoulder.

"Now EVERYONE thinks I'm a girl!" Tails huffed.

"I'm sorry," Sonic's ears drooped. "I just didn't wanna out you like that."

"I'm not mad at you, I'm mad at myself. I read online that this stupid emo style might make me look girly, I'd rather be invisible then people think I'm a girl!" He sniffled.

"I don't think it's your hair style, dude. I think…" Sonic bit his lip. "Maybe, the way society is, when people see us they immediately assume you're just a masculine girl, instead of their first thought being that we're a gay couple."

Tails' ears perked up, but he continued glaring at his reflection. "That's… That's actually really wise of you, Sonic, I think maybe you're right." Tails sighed, he started trying to fix his bangs, wringing the water out of them. They'd need to be dried and brushed properly, but at least now they were mostly their original shape.

"Actually, I hope you are right, I really don't wanna have to cut my hair. I love this emo style." Tails finally turned to face Sonic, giving him a warm smile.

"We should tell them we're gay, I don't wanna see you sad like this." Sonic pulled Tails into a hug.

"But what if they don't accept us?" Tails mumbled into Sonic's shoulder.

"There's only one way to find out," Sonic swept up Tails, holding him bridal style. "Hang on!"

Tails braced himself, then Sonic blasted out of the bathroom and down the winding halls of the college building. He weaved in and out of the few people that were still hanging around, zooming through the front doors and through the crowd.

Sonic clenched his teeth, then with all of his might he swerved around, ran up the side of the building and finally planted himself on the roof, overlooking the shocked crowd of students in front of the school.

"S-Sonic! What are you-" Tails gulped, hanging on tight to the blue hedgehog as his eyes scanned the crowd.

"Hey everybody!" Sonic called out. He didn't wait for a confused response before he continued: "Me and Tails here have an important announcement to make!"

Sonic looked down at his two friends, Knuckles and Shadow, who'd just pushed their way to the front of the crowd.

"Knuckles threw a huge party at your house, Shadow!" Sonic grinned.

"HEY!" Knuckles shouted.

Shadow snarled and shoved the echidna.

"We didn't break anything, I swear!" Knuckles glared, fuming.

Some students chuckled, then Sonic cleared his throat and caught their attention again.

"Also," Sonic looked down at Tails, who he was still cradling, and gave him a big kiss. "Me and Tails are gay!" He grinned back at the crowd, Tails now blushing furiously.

Silence.

"Yeah that's right! Tails is a BOY, not a GIRL, he's a very masculine man's-man, who I enjoy kissing and cuddling with!"

"Sonic-" Tails squeaked.

"I like boys! And Tails, who is a boy, likes boys! We are GAY, and if you don't like that, you can kiss MY tail!" Sonic then turned and pointed his wagging tail at the crowd. It would be mooning, if mobians wore clothes.

At this point, not only had every student who attended the college joined the crowd, including a lot of teachers, but also some random passersby had stopped to watch the show as well.

Tails felt like he was about to faint from embarrassment, although he could not deny the huge blush and goofy smile he was trying to hide.

"Oh! I'm sorry!" Amy cried out, clasping her hands over her mouth. "I guess I just assumed…"

Knuckles cleared his throat. "Okay, well, I don't know why this needed to be a big announcement. Like, nobody cares dude."

"So I go out of town for one weekend and the faker turns gay, got it." Shadow said with a roll of his eyes.

Knuckles punched Shadow's arm, causing the two to start growling at each other.

"K, that's all!" Sonic then dashed off the building, landing in a tree and safely landing on the ground, and in another heartbeat he was just a blur streak off in the distance.
