Shattered Innocence Ch. 21
Emily makes her way across the city and just like Alastor said, all she had to do was mentioned his name whenever someone approached her. Most demons cowered at the mention of his name and the few who didn't immediately flee seemed hesitant to have anything to do with the disguised angel. They were more than willing to give her directions though.
Once she arrived at the part of the city she was told about, the demons there seemed much more welcoming with their bright smiles. Whenever Emily mentioned the Radio Demon they were delighted to help her out. They even escorted her all the way to where she needed to be.
"Oh, we all have that one annoying relative that we'd just want to take a bite out of," a tall pale woman at the counter tells another demon. "Bring them in and I'll see what I can do."
Emily approaches the counter. "Hello. I'm Emily Carmine. Alastor sent me."
"Oh, my stars!" the woman practically pulls the young seraphim over the counter. "You must be Carmilla's new daughter? Ain't you a doll," she pinches Emily's cheeks. "I could eat you up! But I won't," the woman pulls away. "I'm Rosie. Now, Alastor mentioned that you would be coming. He says that you have something valuable to offer."
The disguised angel glances behind herself. "Um, would it be okay if we do this somewhere more private?"
Rosie raised a brow as it did not seem the girl was looking at anyone behind her despite all the other demons.
"Why of course!" the pale woman leads Emily to the back room. "Now," she turns to her guest. "What is on your mind?"
The disguised angel takes a deep breath. "Just please do not freak out or anything. I've, uh, had that happen with too many people already."
"Oh, please! You have any idea what I've seen as an Overlord? There's hardly anything that would surprise…" the Overlord freezes as the girl before her sprouts five feathered wings before removing her horns.
"I'm, I'm an angel," Emily looks away while glancing at Rosie, trying to gauge her reactions. It's strange seeing a frown upon a face that had such a big smile.
"Well…" the tall woman blinks. "Color me surprised! Never thought I'd be in the presence of an angel," the smile returns. "No wonder Alastor was so secretive."
"You don't hate me?"
"Hate you!?" she lets out a laugh. "Why in Hell would I hate you? I hardly know you," the woman then leads the young seraphim to one of the chairs to take a seat.
"But the Extermination?"
"I ain't gonna lie," Rosie takes her own seat before looking down with a sad smile. "I lost many friends to the Extermination. Especially my Franklin," then looks back at her guest. "But that has nothing to do with you. You seem too small and frail to be an Exorcist. And even a bit thin. Have you been eating well?"
That put a small smile on Emily's face. "Most people say that I've been eating too well," and places a hand on the small notable pudge.
"That!?" the Overlord laughs. "This is Cannibal Town! That's nothing. Barely even indulging yourself. Now, even if I was upset with you being an angel. You're a Carmine now. And as the pact states I cannot lash out against you even if I wanted to," she glances behind her guest. "Though, it seems as if you've already been through enough."
The young seraphim looked behind herself before grabbing one of her wings and patting it. "How much can you offer?"
Rosie blinks. "For what?" her eyes then widen briefly as the angel holds up the limb. "You have any idea what you're asking?"
"I, I do," Emily looks down at her wing. "As much as they're a part of me, they've gotten me into a lot of trouble. I had been exposed because of these. What if next time it happens while in front of those who are not as understanding?" her grip then tightens. "Then there's the mental problems that I can't seem to control. Getting rid of them is probably the best thing I can do," she lets go. "But I also want to do something for my family. The Carmines have done so much for me, and I know that Carmilla, my Mom would give me money if I asked. But I want to do this on my own."
The Overlord blinks before standing up to walk towards the angel. "May I?"
Knowing what was being asked, Emily also stood and turned her back towards the Cannibal. She does her best not to flinch while her wings are being examined.
"Angel flesh is so rare that it's considered a delicacy," Rosie caresses one of the broken limbs. "Very few Cannibals can say they've tasted it. Even though they're not in the best condition, I can still offer a couple hundred for each. Now this…" she lifts up the one healthy wing. "This one will fetch quite the price," the woman then lets the limb go before walking around to face Emily. "Are you sure you want to do this?"
.oOo.
Before she knew it, Emily was now sitting on a table using only a sheet to cover herself, leaving her back and wings exposed. The wings are outstretched with wires keeping them in place tied to a rod on the other end.
Rosie walks up to her with a long Angelic blade. "Are you sure you want to do this? There will be no going back. And it will hurt." She worriedly looks at the girl before her.
"They're more trouble than they're worth. Besides," the angel grips the sheet. "It can't be worse than the pain I've already been through."
The tall woman nods before stepping behind her guest, raises the blade, and brings it down in one swing.
.oOo.
Emily flinches as she places her jacket back on.
Rosie then walks back into the room carrying a large envelope. "Here you go!" and happily passes the packet. "Paid in full. Now, I know that you would not want Carmilla to worry but you must tell her. Those bandages will have to been changed regularly."
"I know," the wingless seraphim looked down. "I already have some experience."
The Overlord smiles sadly at her before gently giving the angel a hug.
.oOo.
Emily now walks out of a shop, not only dragging her suitcase but also carrying a few bags from different stores. "I hope they like these," she glances inside one of the bags. "Time to go home," the thought of that made her happy.
Those happy thoughts didn't last long as a voice shouted at her.
"Hey!"
Turning, Emily sees a familiar sinning man with three short horns wearing raggedy clothing.
"I remember you!" the man from the salon stumbles towards her with a foul smell coming from his mouth. "I lost my job because of you, B(bleep)ch!"
"I-I did nothing wrong," Emily's large eye opens as she steps back only for the demon to approach her even more. "Y-you, you were the one abusing your authority."
"This is Hell! No one is even supposed give a sh(bleep) that!" he shoves her into the nearby alley. "I'm going to make sure you pay!"
"No wait!" the angel was forced to face the wall and let out a shout of pain. "Please don't!" and soon starts crying
Your hair smells nice.
There was a brief shout, and something is then heard splattering.
"Fear not, Child," another familiar voice reaches her.
Turning around, Emily sees none other than Zestial offering a hand towards her. His other arm is outstretched to keep his cloak open as if he was hiding something.
"Swearing upon thy honor that thou shall not be harmed and shall do everything in thy power to keep the oath."
The angel blinks as her chest eye closes before running up to hug the Ancient Overlord and thus surprising him.
Zestial blinks as the angel cries into his shoulder before smiling and embracing the child.
"Let's get thou home."
