Hello lovelies! This is the last chapter that I have readily available to upload and I will be working on the third chapter. I can't say for sure when that chapter will be finished, but I know that all three chapters will be uploaded together. With this chapter, we will mostly finish up setting up for the start of The First Avenger. My hope is that once I get going along with the movie, that will spur me on to make more chapters. So, that's all I had for this part of the note so I will get on with the quote.

"Older men declare war. But it is the youth that must fight and die."

-Herbert Hoover

Now I will get on with the story.

1865 A.D.-1934 A.D.

It wasn't long before the Civil War came to an end and the mutant brothers decided that it was time to move on. Freyja had offered the boys a place to stay back in New York, but they had both declined. They said that the quiet life wasn't for them, but they looked forward to seeing her again. There was again relative peace until WW1 broke out around the world. The United States, as the country was known as now, did not enter the war at first. However, Freyja was once again asked to step in as a doctor to help the wounded in France. She did so without hesitation and again she was awarded with the immediate respect of the French soldiers. She even ran into Victor and James again while on French soil where the boys were more than happy to catch up with her when there was a lull in the fighting. Sadly, Freyja wasn't overseas long and was shipped back to the United States where she picked up her practice in her home location in Brooklyn. Not long after she came back, she received two new patients, Sarah Rogers and Winnifred Barnes. Sarah Rogers was a lovely woman with long blonde hair and blue eyes whose husband fought and lost his life in World War 1. Winnifred Barnes, on the other hand, was married to a man named George who had gorgeous chocolate brown hair and blue eyes. Winnifred had a spark in her that she kept hidden until she was angered or wronged that Freyja liked immensely. Both women had also felt relief in getting a female doctor as they believed that she would be more effective than a male doctor. Freyja worked with the women to build up rapport with them that build a strong bond that grew even stronger when Freyja helped them deliver their sons a year apart. Winnifred's son was born first as James Buchanan Barnes who was a very healthy boy with brown hair and blue eyes. Then about a year later, Sarah gave birth to her son Steven Grant Rogers who had blond hair and blue eyes. However, Freyja was a little worried about him. He was born sickly and Freyja knew that he had to be monitored regularly for any mishaps in his health. This led to Freyja being a constant visitor at the Rogers home and for Sarah to drop Steve off with Freyja when she had to work. When both boys were born, Sarah and Winnifred were overjoyed that Freyja and their boys shared bonded marks. To the mothers, this meant that their sons would have someone who could take care of them should something happen to them. This of course prompted James to visit Freyja at her home when he became old enough, that slowly turned into a crush on James's end. Soon came the end of WW1 and Freyja basked in the peace that came after the fighting ended. When the soldiers came back from war, Freyja set about making hospitals and specified centers around the country so that the soldiers and civilians could have more care than just her offices and pharmacies could. Everything was going smoothly on the American front so Freyja took that time to venture back to Frœknland to check on progress. That too was running beautifully so Freyja took the time to visit the different universities in Europe to see what new advancements that the faculty were making. Nothing really caught Freyja's interest until she came upon a one Abraham Erskine at a university in Germany. Hearing about his research for a so-called "Super Soldier Serum" caused a vision of her little Steve all grown up and fighting in a war to appear that ended with the end of atrocities at the hand of the German army. When Freyja approached him and prompted him to talk about his work, Abraham was a little hesitant but he was eager to share with her when he realized that she had a slight grasp on the science behind the serum. This led to the two striking up an easy friendship along with Abe's family. In the two years following Freyja's befriending of the Erskine family, Freyja realized the dangers of living in Germany when Abe told her about the Nazi party getting more and more political support. Freyja couldn't help the dread she felt at the news and quickly offered to take Abe's wife and children somewhere safe if the government tried to take them as collateral for Abe's genius. Abe jumped on the chance and had his family all packed up within the day. Before Freyja took the family to Frœknland, Freyja made Abe promise to go along with the government when they came for him. Abe was reluctant, yet he promised when he realized that he trusted Freyja's judgment. Freyja stayed in Frœknland just long enough to get the Erskine family settled in, then ventured back to America where a new patient waited for her. This patient was none other than Howard Stark. When Freyja had walked into the examination room to see him, Howard had perked up and had flirted non-stop with her. This did not phase Freyja in the slightest because she was used to this sort of treatment back home on Asgard. After that first appointment, Howard had made Freyja his primary physician and continued on with his flirting. Due to his continued flirting, Freyja had come to associate the flirting as part of his personality. The two then struck up an unanticipated friendship that found the two meeting for meals or outings where the two would talk about a variety of topics. It was through the talks that Freyja learned of Howard's intense love of mechanics. She found it endearing and decided to help him achieve his dream of creating his own company. The first thing she did to help him was to mention the upcoming engineering conference in Switzerland. From her visions, she saw that Howard needed to meet Abraham, so she strived to set that in motion. Howard's eyes had brightened at the news and he was absolutely giddy when Freyja said that she would accompany him. Like she had expected, she saw Abe at the conference so she quickly introduced her two friends who hit it off. Everything is coming along beautifully, Freyja thought to herself.

1936 A.D.-1942 A.D.

Two years later came the death of Sarah Rogers. Freyja and Bucky stayed close to Steve to offer their comfort and support that Steve appreciated. They both offered to let Steve live with them, but he refused. That didn't stop the three of them from going out together for the movies or to a baseball game. When Freyja wasn't spending time with her boys, Howard would steal her away to show her his new Stark Industries. He even invited her to his first demonstration. Freyja was happy and excited for him until she learned that he had managed to acquire a large bundle of vibranium. If that wasn't all, Howard would have been killed by assassins if Freyja hadn't taken care of them. Just seeing how easy Freyja was able to take them down, Howard gained new respect for her. This landed the both of them positions on the Strategic Scientific Reserve. Howard for his engineering and Freyja because she knew about Abe's serum and her extensive knowledge on the human body. Later on a woman named Peggy Carter and Abe joined the division after being rescued. The others, minus Freyja, were full on participants while Freyja opted to be an advisor so that she could still be with her boys. That is, until the U.S. entered WW2. As soon as the news was announced, Bucky and Freyja took up teaching Steve how to fight. It wasn't long after that that Bucky was drafted into the army while Steve was denied because of his many health problems. That didn't stop him from trying to register in other cities only to be rejected there too. Freyja was quick to assure Steve that he would have his chance, that did little to nothing to cheer him up. The year after that, Freyja received news from Odin in the form of a raven. He had heard that the Tesseract had been stolen from its hiding place in Norway, so Odin wanted Freyja to go inspect the monastery and report back to him. When Freyja did reach the monastery, she saw a huge gaping hole in the entrance where someone no doubt bulldozed into the building. Have they no respect for history, Freyja grumbled to herself as she stepped through the newly made entrance. There were also two corpses, one that looked to be crushed by the rubble and the other was shot. Freyja frowned at the sight and sent a prayer for the both of them before she strode over to where she knew Odin had hid the Tesseract. Just like Odin had feared, the box that used to reside in the Yggdrasil carving was long gone. Gods damn it, Freyja hissed to herself. She quickly turned to the raven that was resting on her shoulder and passed on the news so that the bird could tell Odin.

By the time Freyja arrived back at her home in Brooklyn, she saw Bucky and Steve coming into her home with Bucky's arm draped over Steve's shoulders. Freyja was also able to see that Steve now sported a split lip that made her frown. Her little Stevie was always getting into fights that he couldn't win and would always come back home with injuries with Bucky right by his side after saving him. While Freyja admired Steve's bravery, she also wished that he would know how to pick his battles or have better reflexes.

"I'm barely gone for a day and you've gotten into another fight?" Freyja questioned as she swept over to the medicine cabinet that she had on her kitchen wall to grab one of her homemade serums that would heal the split lip in no time. While Freyja was grabbing the bottle, Bucky ushered Steve to sit in a kitchen chair before he took one to sit backwards in.

"I had 'em on the ropes," Steve protested as if it was an automatic response.

Freyja shook her head at her bonded's answer while she gave a drop of the serum on Steve's lip.

"Rub your lips together and you'll be good."

Steve followed Freyja's advice without hesitation while Freyja put the serum back where it belonged. When Freyja turned back around to face her boys, she was now able to focus on Bucky and see the way he was dressed. Instead of regular trousers and a white button up shirt, Bucky now sported a crisp military uniform.

"You've got your orders," Freyja stated more than asked when she saw Bucky's uniform.

She watched as he drew himself up with pride to hide the spark of fear that was in his eyes. While she did feel pride at the rank that was displayed on his uniform, she also felt for him seeing as though he had never seen real battle before. I might have to sit him down before he leaves to give him some advice.

"The 107th," Bucky told her that broke her from her train of thought.

"Sergeant James Barnes, shipping out for England first thing tomorrow."

Instead of getting weepy eyed at Bucky shipping off to war, Freyja looked him straight in the eye with the look of a superior giving a reassuring look to their underlings. Which was true with Freyja being a General. She strode over to him and smoothed out any wrinkles she found on his jacket.

"I'm proud of you Bucky," she smiled up at him. "I know you'll do well."

Bucky seemed to swell in genuine pride at making her proud and he also felt like a love-sick boy who had gotten the attention of his crush. Which wasn't that far off the mark seeing as though Bucky had had a crush on Freyja for as long as he could remember.

However, Freyja did not miss the way Steve was almost shrinking in on himself. Her heart ached for the genuine desire Steve had to serve his country and "fight bullies" as he liked to say.

"Don't worry," Freyja smiled over to him. "You will get your chance to serve your country in time."

Rather than take Freyja's words as something that is meant to placate him, he knew that Freyja knew things that would happen when she couldn't have. Both Bucky and Steve had quickly learned not to question her and simply follow any request or order that she gave them. If she said he would have a chance, then he would. While Steve was soothing himself with Freyja's words, Bucky threw an arm around Steve's shoulders and shot a charming smile at the woman who looked to be about their age as she had for years.

"What would you say about going to the future?" he voiced towards the both of them.

Freyja wanted so badly to deadpan tell him that he'd need a time machine for that, but she knew that that wasn't what Bucky had meant.

"And what would one need to wear to the future?" Freyja asked, sitting down at her kitchen table.

"A dress will do just fine," Bucky said after he pretended to think about it.

Freyja rolled her silver eyes at her bonded's humor while Steve shook his head with a smile.

"What time do I need to be ready?"

"We'll be back at around eight," Bucky told her as he pulled Steve up out of his chair.

"I have to get Steve cleaned up."

Freyja watched two of her bonded walk out the door with a fond smile on her face. When Freyja had first interacted with her new bonded, she wasn't so sure what to make of them. Her current bonded were all older than her. It was at its worst when Bucky and Steve were infants and young children. She didn't know how to play with them seeing as though they were a little more fragile than an Asgardian. As the boys got older, Freyja got more used to the Midgardian strength level as well as the boys getting a little stronger. However, that did not stop her from trying to bond with them so that they were almost like her own. She was actually named as the godmother for both of them since she had a spectacular health record and would be able to financially support them should the need arise.

About two hours later found Freyja freshly bathed and dressed in a very pretty purple dress and her makeup was done up lightly with silver shadow, red coral lipstick, and apple red rogue on the apples of her cheeks. She was just putting the finishing touches on her hair when she heard a knock on her door. A quick sweep of her powers was able to see that it was Bucky and Steve.

"One minute boys," she called out. "I just need to finish with my hair."

She pushed the last bobby pin in place then admired the finished project. Her hair was parted to the side with hair to frame her hair in two waves while the rest was pinned in curls at the base of her skull. With a twist of her head this way and that, she deemed herself ready by blowing a kiss at her reflection.

"Alright boys, you can come in," Freyja told them as she rose to her feet.

Bucky was the one to open the door to see Freyja in all her glory when she turned to greet them. The boys were used to the natural and stunning beauty that Freyja possessed, but there were times where they were blown away all over again.

"You look amazing," Steve smiled brightly at his godmother and bonded.

"Why thank you Stevie," Freyja smiled, reaching forward to bring Steve into a hug.

"I haven't the words," Bucky smiled, looking at her with warmth in his eyes.

Freyja could feel the fondness that leaked over from their bonds and it warmed her heart.

"Always such a charmer Bucky Barnes," Freyja smirked that had white teeth peeking out from behind red painted lips.

"Can't help it," Bucky answered back, coming to wrap an arm around her waist.

Freyja rolled her eyes at her bonded's answer, but held out a hand to Steve.

"Ready to go Stevie?"

"Of course."

He gave her hand a squeeze before he walked out of her room towards the front door. Freyja followed closely behind him with Bucky not that far behind. Since Steve had reached the front door first, he had retrieved Freyja's coat from the closet by the door. When he saw Freyja walking towards him, he opened the herringbone wrap coat for her.

"Thank you my sweet Stevie," Freyja said to the blond who helped situate the coat on her shoulders.

"It's nothing special," Steve smiled, pleased that his efforts were appreciated.

Once her coat was buttoned and the belt was fastened, Freyja led her boys out to the street. She made sure to lock her door then turned to face them.

"So, are my two strapping young men escorting me to the future?" Freyja asked the two as she walked down the step to the sidewalk.

"Of course."

Both Bucky and Steve held an arm out for Freyja to take. She happily took both so that Steve was on her left and Bucky was on her right. The trio then set off for the future.

As soon as they stepped foot on the grounds of the expo, fireworks greeted them. Everywhere they looked they saw many things advertised with lights and signs. Howard is doing really well for himself, Freyja thought to herself with a small smile.

"Welcome to the Modern Marvels Pavilion and the World of Tomorrow," the PA spoke over the loudspeaker.

"Let's head over to the stage," Freyja told her boys.

"From the time Howard gave me, the show should be starting any minute."

"I still can't believe you know Howard Stark," Steve commented as Freyja led the two towards the small crowd.

"It almost seems like Freyja knows everybody," Bucky added.

"That's a fair assumption," Freyja admitted with a shrug and a tilt of her head.

Both Bucky and Steve looked at her in equal parts curiosity and confusion. They did not know if she was being literal or if she was exaggerating. From their experience, she could very well know everyone in the world. Freyja wasted no time pulling her bonded over towards the stage where women in shorts stood in front of the car waiting for Howard. They all watched him take the stage like a show pony and kiss the girl who had taken his hat.

"Why am I friends with him?" Freyja asked herself at Howard's flashy behavior.

Howard took the microphone from the girl he had just kissed then turned to the crowd. When he saw Freyja in the audience, his smile grew even bigger and threw a wink her way. All Freyja could do was shake her head at his antics that made him laugh.

"Ladies and gentleman," Howard spoke into the microphone.

"What if I told you that in just a few short years, your automobile won't even have to touch the ground at all?"

The audience watched on with awe as the tires were removed while Freyja had a smirk on her face. She knew of the technology in Wakanda that already was making leaps and bounds in the way of technology that would make Howard pass out in joy.

"Holy cow," Bucky said as he watched the car hover off the ground.

They all watched the car hover for a few more seconds before something sparked and the car dropped. Bucky and Steve took a step back at the sound of the car hitting the ground and both reached out an arm to wrap around Freyja. Freyja, on the other hand, simply stood her ground.

"I did say a few years, didn't I?"

The crowd clapped at the demonstration, but Freyja could see out of the corner of her eye that Steve had walked off. Of course he did, Freyja thought to herself. She reached up to place a hand on Bucky's shoulder so that he would lean down a bit.

"Stevie wandered off. Let's go find him before he gets himself into trouble."

"You should know that he's nothing but trouble," Bucky joked, leading Freyja away from the crowd with a hand at the small of her back.

Freyja walked to the recruitment center where she saw Steve trying the machine that would light up his reflection in the mirror with a soldier.

"You talk with Steve," Freyja told Bucky. "I have to talk with someone."

When the two reached the doorway, they broke away so that Bucky went to Steve and Freyja headed towards the older man in a lab coat that was blending in with the crowd.

"It's nice to see you again Abe," Freyja greeted him warmly.

"Freyja," Abe returned with a smile and the same warmth sparkling in his eyes.

"I think I've found a candidate for your program," Freyja told him.

Abe immediately became more alert and excited.

"Who?"

"That blond man over there," Freyja said, pointing towards Steve who was talking with Bucky.

"He may not be a good soldier, but he is a good man."

"A good man," Abe said thoughtfully as he watched Steve.

"Just talk with him. I'm sure he's the one you're looking for."

"I will."

Freyja then walked towards Bucky and Steve who were still talking.

"Steve is thinking about trying to enlist again," Bucky told her when she rejoined him.

"I think that is a marvelous idea," Freyja smiled.

"But we were supposed to go dancing," Bucky pointed out.

"Trust me Bucky," Frejya said, placing a hand on his forearm.

"This is where Stevie needs to be."

Bucky looked like he was still doubtful of Steve trying to enlist again, but he relented.

"Then let's go dancing," he finally said before turning to Steve.

"Don't do anything stupid until I get back."

"How can I," Steve retorted. "You're taking all the stupid with you."

Freyja watched the two say goodbye with a full heart at how close her two bonded are. My boys, she thought to herself. Once Bucky and Steve were finished saying goodbye, Steve turned to Freyja. Freyja's face instantly melted at her youngest bonded and enveloped him in a hug.

"You won't be on your own for long," Freyja told him in his ear.

"I'll pop in from time to time to see you."

While Steve was sure he would be fine on his own, he relaxed a bit at Freyja's words.

"I look forward to it," Steve told her.

The two shared a few more seconds of the hug before Freyja pulled back and cupped Steve's face in her hands.

"Go and make history my Stevie."

Both Bucky and Steve were confused at Freyja's words, but Steve took the confusion like a champ and smiled back at her while his hands moved to hold her wrists.

"I will."

He gave her wrists a squeeze and then Freyja let him go so that he could walk away.

ooo0ooo

After hours of dancing, Bucky and Freyja decided to duck into a restaurant to grab a quick bite before Bucky escorted Freyja back home.

"Are you all packed for the morning?" Freyja asked Bucky after they had ordered their meals.

"Yeah," Bucky answered, the smile that he had on his lips dropping slightly.

Freyja noticed immediately and could feel the fear and worry that Bucky was experiencing thinking about the war zone. That was enough for her to know that he needed advice.

"I know you're scared and worried," Freyja spoke softly so that only Bucky would hear her.

"So I'll give you some advice about being in a war zone."

Bucky had wanted to ask her what she meant since she had not mentioned being in a war before, but his desire for advice won out.

"Watch everything the more experienced soldiers are doing. Don't bunch up with the other soldiers, this makes you bigger targets. When a bomb hits the ground by you, drop to the ground and go into the fetal position with your hands over your head. If someone starts shooting, hit the ground. It would be even better if you can get below ground like a ditch. If you're stuck in a ditch, crawl on your belly out of there. Drink plenty of water and eat when you can."

Bucky looked a little floored at all the information that Freyja gave him, but his shoulders relaxed a bit. From what Freyja was saying, she knew exactly what to expect in a war and he would have a fighting chance if he listened to her.

"Thanks Freyja," Bucky smiled gratefully at her.

"I know that you will live," Freyja told him with certainty. "You are the amazing James Buchanan Barnes."

That was just what Bucky needed for the life to return to his eyes and for him not to worry so much about the future. The two leisurely ate the rest of the meal then left for Freyja's home. One the way back, Bucky wrapped an arm around Freyja's waist while Freyja leaned into his chest. They were content on their walk until Bucky stopped in front of Freyja's home. While Bucky felt better about leaving for war, it was not settling in that he wouldn't see Freyja for a while. Possibly years.

"I guess this is goodnight and goodbye," Bucky said softly, moving to face Freyja with her hands in his.

"It's goodnight and see you later," Freyja amended with a small smile.

"We will see each other again."

Bucky faintly smiled at that and gave Freyja's hands a little squeeze.

"Take care Bucky."

Freyja placed her hands on Bucky's jaw and stood on her tiptoes to place a kiss on his forehead while Bucky leant down a bit to make it easier for her. They both relished the closeness between them before Bucky stood back to his full height. Rather than say anything, everything that Bucky felt and wanted to say came through the bonded mark that they both shared. Freyja only smiled and sent reassurance back at him. Bucky wanted to stay in the comfort that he was getting from Freyja, but he knew he had to get back home to be ready to leave early in the morning. His hand rose to give Freyja's wrists a squeeze before he took her hands in his again.

"I'll see you later."

"It will be sooner than you think," Freyja told him.

Bucky slowly let go of Freyja's hands then walked off towards his home. Freyja watched him go with her heart full of pride for him. Once he was out of sight, Freyja headed inside and started to think about how the next four months were going to go. She knew that, first and foremost, she needed to make sure her company was running smoothly and that her plants were doing well. Then she would have to make a stop in Frœknland to catch up on paperwork and to make sure her people were alright. Loki, Thor, and Frigga were also asking her when she would come and visit them, so a trip to Asgard was also in order. I'll need a calendar to figure this out, Freyja thought to herself as she walked towards her bedroom once she had locked her front door. But before that, I think another bath is in order. Freyja quickly removed her makeup, slipped out of her clothes, and took her hair down from the hairstyle she had had it in. When she was finished through her bath, she slipped on a robe then sat at her desk in her bedroom to look over her calendar. Let us see, today is the fourteenth of June, so Steve is going to start his training tomorrow. Project Rebirth is set to take place on the twenty-second, so I should use the time until the thirtieth to check in on my company here in America. From the beginning of July to the end of August, I should stay in Frœknland and catch up on matters there. From the beginning of September to the end of October, I should go visit everyone on Asgard. Then during the first week of November, I should go visit Stevie. As Freyja was debating over what to do when, her pen was rubbing against her face while she thought it over. I don't need to pack, she thought to herself. I have clothes and other necessities both in Frœknland and Asgard. Now that she had a plan of action in order, Freyja closed her planner then set about doing her nightly skincare routine. She had just finished moisturizing when she felt a vision coming on. She made sure she was stable before she let the vision take over her. From what she could make out, she was in a chamber that looked like the set-up for Project Rebirth. She watched as people began to crowd her Stevie, who was now heads taller than he was before and more muscular. As everyone was getting excited about the turn out, Freyja watched as an explosion shook the lab that brought enough distraction for someone to grab the extra vial of Super Soldier Serum and to shoot Abe. Freyja's heart gave a pang of sadness at the sight, but she pressed on through the vision to see her Stevie valiantly follow the man who killed Abe. He managed to dispose of the second vial of the serum, but he failed to stop the man from killing himself. Freyja frowned at the turn of events and tried to look at alternate ways that the situation could have turned out, but she saw that the first one she saw yielded the best results. I am sorry Abe, Freyja thought sadly to herself with tears coming to her eyes as they faded back to her normal silver. With a heavy heart, Freyja went to sleep that night knowing that she would have to tell one of her dearest friends that he was to die in only eight days.

And there is the end of this next chapter. Freyja has said watched both of her boys off for war. As someone who can see glimpses into the future, I would say that she doesn't have any worries that her boys are going to survive this war. However, I would say that she isn't too crazy about the journey that the both of them need to take. With the next chapter, I should have the rest of the groundwork finished. So, that's all I have to say for now. If you have any questions or want to leave a comment, feel free to leave a review or shoot me a pm. Remember, reviews are magic!
