On May 24, the world of music lost a great legend. Tina Turner passed away at age 83.

One of the royal family's favorite things to do during their parties and balls at the castle has always been singing. They especially love it during Halloween parties, since they get to dress up! For this year's party, Miranda gets inspired by one of Queen Melinda's costumes and wears it. This in turn inspires not just Roland, but a few of the castle ghosts, to sing a song that he and Queen Melinda used to do! Everyone has fun watching them, James and Amber reminisce about the fun they had watching their parents sing this song, and they get to watch them sing the song again. Tina Turner's music is not mine (and neither is Creedence Clearwater Revival's, since they sang this song first in 1969; Ike and Tina Turner did a variation on the classic in 1971), and on a more serious note, rest in peace Tina Turner.

"What do you think Mom and Dad will do for the Halloween ball this year?" Sofia asked as she met James and Amber at the door to the ballroom. She had just finished changing into her Belle costume, while Amber was Snow White. James didn't want to be Florian, so he told Amber that Hugo could be Snow White's prince, while he himself went as Prince Ali. It worked out for him, since Vivian had told him that she was dressing up as Princess Jasmine.

"I have no idea, but I'm sure we'll love it," Amber said as they entered.

When they entered the ballroom, the Halloween ball was in full swing. Sofia had persuaded Cedric to set up his Morph-o-Mirrors, and everyone was enjoying seeing their different reflections. She giggled as she saw Hildegard, who was dressed in a similar outfit to the one she wore when she and Zandar performed their flying carpet dance, taking diligent notes on each of the outfits she was wearing in the mirrors.

"Find a good outfit yet, Hildegard?" she asked, seeing Hildegard's reflections showing herself as a mermaid, a butterfly, a fairy, and even a swan princess.

"Each of these outfits I'm seeing myself in are positively marvelous!" Hildegard smiled. "I simply must have my royal tailors make these for me!"

"If you say so, Hildy. Have fun!" Sofia giggled, leaving Hildegard to her designs.

"She'll be there all night, won't she?" Cleo giggled as she watched her friend become engrossed in her drawings.

"I think so, but let's try to get her to join the party later," Sofia agreed. "And if she's too busy drawing, we can get her snacks or something to drink."

"That's a good idea," Cleo smiled. "Let's leave Hildy to her fun, and we can check on her later."

Soon, they heard Baileywick's voice from the top of the stairs. "Presenting King Roland and Queen Miranda," He announced. He glanced toward the doors when he heard the sound of someone clearing their throat. "Forgive me, I mean to say, presenting two of our entertainers for the evening, Ike and Tina Turner."

"Oh no. Please don't tell me…" Amber was trying to look embarrassed, but she couldn't help but start laughing as the doors opened.

"What is it?" Sofia asked.

"She found it!" Amber smiled fondly.

"Found what?" Sofia repeated.

"Our mom had this really sparkly, glittery dress she wore for Halloween one year," James grinned. "She asked Cedric to make a matching wig to go with it, and she and Dad sang together, with her in the costume, and Dad wearing whatever it was that he was dressing up as. The song was a big hit, but the next day, Amber came down for breakfast, wearing the wig! She loved it so much that she said it was hers now! Mom and Dad drew the line at her wearing it to Royal Prep, but they did let her wear it around the castle when we came home!"

"I was six!" Amber tried to sound offended.

"Yeah, so was I, but when she finally took it off, Dad had to hide it in a box in Mom's closet," James continued. "Amber hunted for that box for a year, but then she gave up on it and started dressing up in other things."

"I just wonder how Mom found it," Sofia mused.

"That would be my doing," they heard a new voice behind them. James, Sofia, and Amber turned, and they saw Queen Melinda, as well as several of the castle ghosts, joining the party. "Miranda was looking for something to wear, and I helped her find the dress and wig in the back of one of the closets."

"Mom!" James and Amber smiled.

"Happy Halloween, my sweethearts," Queen Melinda smiled. "And Amber, you'll be pleased to know that I asked Cedric to make you your own sparkly wig and costume so you can have your own. You can wear it to a New Years party, or to a Halloween party here in the castle, but your father and I draw the line at you wearing it to Ever Realm Academy!"

"You know they have costume balls at Ever Realm, right?" Amber smiled sweetly.

"Oh yes...You win this round…" Melinda smirked as she pulled her into a hug.

"Okay, okay," Sofia giggled. "But why did you and Mom wear that outfit?"

"Oh, there was a song that Roland and I used to sing," Melinda smiled. "Since I thought the outfit went along well with it, I'd wear that dress and wig, while Roland wore an overalls-type outfit with…."

"The blue button-down shirt and a gold necklace from the jewel room?" James asked, motioning toward the doors.

"Exactly!" Melinda smiled. She went over to Roland and looked him over. "Hello, Roland! Don't you look...retro!"

"That's the idea, Melinda," Roland smiled. "And thank you for helping Miranda find that dress and wig of yours!"

"It's my pleasure, and you know I asked Cedric to make Amber her own outfit like that," Melinda smiled.

"As long as she wears it around the castle," Roland chuckled at the memory of Amber wearing the wig after the party. "When we saw her wearing that when she came down the day after the party that day, of course we had to sing the song with her, then convince her to take it off for the day while she was at school, but then she was free to wear it when she got home again!"

"And if there's ever a costume ball at Ever Realm Academy, she can wear it there as well," Miranda agreed.

"That's what we agreed on too," Melinda nodded.

"Thank you!" Amber smiled.

"Yes, Amber, you'll make us proud as a tiny Tina, but now it's our turn to sing this," Miranda agreed.

"Nice wordplay, Mom!" James grinned.

"Thank you, James, but your father actually came up with that!" Miranda smiled.

"I've taught you well!" James grinned over at Roland.

"Indeed you have," Roland smiled as he and Miranda took the stage and Baileywick started the music.

Miranda smiled as she started singing as Roland sang backup for her. However, they didn't know that Melinda was motioning Sir Dax over to her.

You know
Every now and then I think you might like to hear something from us
(Left a good job down in the city)
Nice and easy
But there's just one thing, you see (workin' for the man every night and day)
We never ever do nothin'
(But I never lost one minute of sleepin') nice and easy
We always do it nice and rough
(Worryin' 'bout the way that things might've been)
And we're gonna take the beginning of this song and do it easy
(Big wheel keep on turnin')
But then we're gonna do the finish rough
(Proud Mary keep on burnin') this is the way we do "Proud Mary"

"Dax, would you like to sing this with me? We can surprise Roland and Miranda and sing the next verse, then we can all do the rest of the song together," Melinda whispered.

"I'd love that," Sir Dax chuckled. "I did so enjoy hearing you sing this song years ago, and I actually sang it with Auntie Bess at another Ghostly Gala! I never thought she'd enjoy it, but she did!"

Not really listening to what the two ghosts were whispering about, Roland and Miranda sang together, And we rollin', rollin'
Rollin' on the river

Miranda started the song, Listen to the story now
Left a good job down in the city
Workin' for the man every night and day
And I never lost one minute of sleepin'
I was worryin' 'bout the way that things might've been

Roland sang backup for her as she continued, Big wheel keep on turnin'
Ooh, the Proud Mary keep on burnin'
And we're rollin' (rollin'), rollin', yeah (rollin')
Rollin' on the river (rollin' on the river)

Suddenly, they got a surprise as Melinda and Sir Dax joined them onstage. Melinda had concentrated and made her own version of the sparkly outfit Miranda was wearing, while Sir Dax had made his own version of Roland's outfit, only his shirt was red instead of blue.

"You don't mind us joining you, do you, darlings?" Sir Dax asked.

"The more the merrier!" Miranda smiled, Roland nodding in agreement.

Melinda took the second verse as Sir Dax sang backup for her, Cleaned a lot of plates in Memphis
And I pumped a lot of 'tane down in New Orleans
But I never saw the good side of the city
Until I hitched a ride on the riverboat queen

You know the big wheel keep on turnin'
Proud Mary keep on burnin'
And we're rollin' (rollin'), rollin', yeah (rollin')
Rollin' on the river (rollin' on the river)
Say we're rollin' (rollin'), rollin' (rollin')
Rollin' on the river (rollin' on the river)

As everyone applauded, the music became wilder, and Melinda took the next verse with Roland, who grinned as he spun her in a dance.

Oh, I left a good job in the city
Workin' for the man every night and day
And I never lost one minute of sleepin'
Worryin' 'bout the way things might have been

Big wheel keep on turnin' (turnin')
Proud Mary keep on burnin' (burnin')
Rollin' (yeah), rollin' (alright)
Rollin' on the river (go 'head now)
Rollin' (oh), say we're rollin' (yeah)
Rollin' on the river

"Just like old times, right, Amber?" James grinned.

"Yes!" Amber smiled as Melinda sang the higher parts of the song with Miranda.

We're up, do do do do do do do do do do do
Alright

"But really, how do girls do that?" James continued, hearing them sing higher notes than he was used to.

"It's a complete mystery that we'll never understand, Prince James," Baileywick chuckled.

Over whoops and cheering, Miranda took the next verse with Sir Dax singing backup for her. Cleaned a lot of plates in Memphis, y'all
Pumped a lot of 'tane down in New Orleans
But I never saw the good side of the city
'Til I hitched a ride on the riverboat queen

Big wheel keep on turnin' (turnin')
Proud Mary keep on burnin' (burnin')
Rollin' (oh), rollin' (yeah)
Rollin' on the river (go 'head now)
Say we're rollin', rollin'
Rollin' on the river

"Way to go Mom! And it's good to see you again, Sir Dax!" Sofia shouted over the whoops and clapping.

"Thank you, darling!" Sir Dax called as he spun Melinda.

Miranda smiled over at her as she and Melinda sang together, We're up, do do do do do do do do do do do
Alright
Yeah
Ooh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Alright, yeah, yeah, yeah
Ooh yeah, yeah

Miranda started the next verse, If you come down to the river
Now, I bet you gonna find some people who live

Melinda joined in, You don't have to worry if you got no money
The people on the river are happy to give

Miranda started as Roland backed her up, Big wheel keep on turnin' (turnin')
Proud Mary keep on burnin' (burnin')
Rollin' (yeah), say we rollin' (yeah)
Rollin' on the river (alright now)
Rollin', rollin'
Rollin' on the river

Melinda joined in, We're up, do do do do do do do do do do do
Woo
Alright
Woo, alright, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Rollin', alright
Alright now, yeah

Melinda and Miranda finished the song while Roland and Dax sang backup for them, Rollin' (yeah), rollin' (uh-huh)
Rollin' on the river (give me one more time)
Rollin' (yeah), rollin' (woo-wee)
Rollin' on the river
Rollin' (ow), rollin' (yeah)
Rollin' on the river
Rollin' (yeah), rollin'

Over the wild applause, James was unconsciously touching his throat as if he could feel it hurting, even though he hadn't been the one to sing that, but he was still smiling. "Amber, Hugo can be your backup singer for when it's your turn to sing this!"

"Oh, James," Sofia giggled. "I'll sing the high parts with you, Amber!"

"Thanks, Sof!" James smiled as he got a drink.
