Firepaw jerked awake, "No!" Firepaw yelped. Ravenpaw perked up from where he was sitting and looked over to Firepaw. "Firepaw! Thank StarClan you're okay" he exclaimed. "Me and Tigerclaw had found you along with Redtail in the forest, you were passed out but Redtail had been killed. Someone must have snuck up on you and knocked you out and killed Redtail." Firepaw looked at Ravenpaw in bewilderment. "But- I swear I saw Tigerclaw do it-"
Ravenpaw looked nervous for a second before quickly changing it into a comforting gaze. "I-I think that was just your imagination, Tigerclaw had been with me when we had found you and Redtail there's no way he could have killed Redtail, Redtail was killed by some riverclan cat that hadn't left yet, we both smelled it."
Fireheart thought back to the memory of Redtail's death. His ears flattened. "So... Tigerstar didn't kill Redtail; that part was just a hallucination." Ravenpaw nervously perked his ears and nodded. "It had to be." Ravenpaw mewed, sounding a little too forced. Firepaw nodded unconvinced but didn't ask any further. "Is everyone else ok?" The tom asked, concern clearly shown on his face. Ravenpaw nodded, reassurance shining in his gaze "Yes, everyone else only sustained minor injuries and Bluestar named Lionheart as the new deputy".
Firepaw nodded before coming to a realization: "How long have I been out?" The young tom questioned. "Since sunrise" Ravenpaw answered. Firepaw nodded looking to the entrance of the den to see the sunset 'almost the whole day.' He thought in disappointment, he was brought back to the present when he thought of another question. "Ok, um - where's Spottedleaf?" Firepaw questioned as Ravenpaw quickly piped in, "She'll be back soon; she's talking to Bluestar right now."
Firepaw nodded "Ok uh, can you get Fawnpaw? I want to talk to her while I wait for Spottedleaf '' Ravenpaw nodded "Of course, stay here I'll go get her" He trotted out of the den and shortly after returned alongside Fawnpaw.
"Firepaw you're awake!" Fawnpaw meowed in relief, she trotted over to Firepaw before quickly giving him a light cuff on the ear "You absolute Mouse Brain, what were you thinking staying behind like that! You should've went with the rest of us!" Fawnpaw hissed.
"I- you were the one to jump into battle with little to no experience!" Firepaw replied with an offended expression. Fawnpaw sputtered, ears twitching, "It was another apprentice, how could I have known they were so good?!?" She whined. "Oh- I don't know, the fact they were picked to be in the battle in the first place?!?" Firepaw snarked but when the two siblings heard soft tittering they paused looking to the den entrance in surprise. "Oh, heyyy Spottedleaf-" Fawnpaw meowed in embarrassment.
"Hello, Fawnpaw" Spottedleaf purred in amusement "I see Firepaw is awake now, tell me how are you feeling my dear, any aches or sores?" Spottedleaf questioned her voice soft and comforting like a warm embrace. Firepaw shook his head "I feel fine, nothing out of the ordinary" the tom meowed, Spottedleaf nodded "Alright then, you should be good to go then, just take it easy for the day" she advised.
Firepaw nodded, "Alright, see you later then, Spottedleaf!" The tom purred, standing up and trotted out of the medicine cat den with Fawnpaw following right behind him. Spottedleaf sighed and shook her head in amusement "You two are sure going to be something special" She whispered fondly to herself before getting back to work.
When the two littermates walk out of the medicine cat den, they find Bluestar waiting for them right in front of the den. "Bluestar!" Firepaw yelped in surprise. "Hello, Firepaw, Fawnpaw," Bluestar meowed. "I wanted to check on Firepaw and talk to him." She added, "I had already talked to Fawnpaw earlier about her recklessness, but Firepaw, you shouldn't have been near the battle either. So now that you are fit, you should be made aware that you and your sister will be doing all apprentice chores for the next half moon, and you will only participate in training after all chores are done."
Firepaw's ears drooped as his head tilted down in respect. "Yes, Bluestar," he meowed acceptingly as Fawnpaw sat next to Firepaw, nuzzling into his side in reassurance that he wasn't alone in this. He looked towards his sister with a purr, nuzzling his head into hers before looking back towards the blue-gray she-cat. His head tilted back down in respect. Bluestar sighed, "Alright, I will see you two later; stay out of any more trouble, young ones." she warned as she trotted back to her den.
The two littermates looked at one another before standing up and getting to work.
