Mario Bros. meet the Gillmans
Chapter 9: Preparations
It was a Saturday morning, and the Mario Bros had woken up. They were living in one of Agatha's house estate buildings for a week since it's only temporary. Luigi prepared their morning coffee, and Mario checked to see if they had all the equipment needed for today.
After their underwater trip to the Kraken Kingdom, Ruby went home to get some sleep while Agatha escorted the bros to their reserved home and showed them how to return to normal size. She showed them the interior of the home and then their beds. With that, she left home, and the bros went straight to bed, thinking about everything they had learned throughout their lives and the Kraken Kingdom.
Now, the Mario Brothers are getting ready for today as they're in their van and checked for all the equipment stored.
"Alright, we have the wrenches, rulers, hammers, screw drivers, and plungers. Is that all?" asked Mario.
"Yep, and we have all the necessary food to eat and clothes in case we need to dry out the ones we have." answered Luigi.
The Mario Brothers closed the van compartment and went to the front doors as they turned on their van.
"Man, Luigi, when we arrived here, I never thought we would learn so many new things about this town." said Mario.
"I was very excited when we went to discover a new kingdom and learn more about the kraken species." added Luigi.
"Yeah, not to mention we have kraken powers, thanks to these medallions in our clothing." responded Mario, as the two brothers looked down at their clothing.
Pretty much, the medallions they obtained from the Kraken Kingdom were fused in their clothing and bodies. Whenever they got changed, the medallions would come out and merge to another clothing. Only the wielder can hold on to their medallion if they wish to show it.
"Alright, Lu, let's make our way to Downtown Oceanside and find the entrance to the sewers." said Mario.
"Here we go, bro!" Luigi shouted.
The Mario Bros. Plumbing Van's engine hummed, and they were off.
Mario and Luigi drove into Oceanside's main plaza. Many students and families all waved and wished good luck at them in repairing their sewers and solving those mysterious tremors. Mario and Luigi answered them back with a nod and tipped their caps in approval.
By now, they have reached the sewer entrance at the outer edge of town. A large gate closed the tunnel to prevent anyone from entering.
Among the entrance stood the Gillmans, Nessie, Ruby's friends, Mayor John Steinberg, two plumbers of Oceanside, and Joana Harbie, reporting the main event.
"Good morning, citizens of Oceanside. I'm Joana Harbie with the morning news. I am here reporting live at Oceanside's main entrance to the sewers, where the Mario Brothers are about to begin their expedition and fix the drainpipes." reported Joana.
She then went toward John Steinberg to ask him questions of what's gonna happen.
"We now have John Steinberg to answer some quick questions. So tell us, mayor, are the Mario Brothers ready to solve this situation? Will they go solo on this? Will they come out in one piece? What will be the fate of them?" asked Joana.
"Well, Ms. Joana, it's like I said from the beginning, the Mario Bros. Plumbing service will be of great assistance at this time of situation. If anyone has the privilege to go farther, it's gotta be them." said Steinberg.
While the two were conversing with each other, the party approached the Mario Bros to say their hellos.
"Good morning, everyone." Mario replied.
"Good morning!" everyone said in sync.
Nessie barked happily, jumped up to them, and licked the bros.
"So, did you two enjoy living in my homes?" asked Agatha.
"Yep, Mario and I slept really well. It almost felt like we were on vacation." Luigi responded.
"But we have an important job to do." added Mario.
Arthur handed the bros a lunchbox full of sandwiches and a few water bottles in case they got thirsty.
"I took the liberty to provide some meals and refreshments if you're feeling tired." said Arthur.
"Thanks, just what we needed." said Mario.
Joana approached the Mario Brothers and started asking them questions about their plan.
"I'm now with Mario and Luigi to go over the inquisition of this development. You two are about to enter the dark and gloomy corridors of Oceanside's sewers. No one dared to go way farther underneath. How do you guys feel about this?" asked Joana.
"Ma'am, we can assure you we are professionals when we enter the sewer systems." Luigi responded.
"We have all the necessary materials needed for this repair job, and nothing will prevent us from finding out what's causing those earthquakes." Mario assured.
"Alright then, and will it be just you two? You aren't gonna ask for any help?" Joana suggested.
Then Mario remembered his mother's words, "...if anyone wants to help you with the job, don't hesitate to invite them."
Then Mario looked at the Gillmans and Ruby's friends, making some thoughts about it until he spoke his answer.
"I think we can ask a few helpers with this." said Mario.
The Mario Bros finished answering questions from Joana. She said her last report of the affair to the broadcast camera and drove away, leaving the mayor, the bros, the Gillmans, and Ruby's friends at the entrance.
Mario and Luigi went up to the group to share something.
"Hey, Gillman family, and you four, we were wondering if any of you would like to come with us to get some experience about our plumbing service?" asked Mario.
Everyone thought about it. Never in their lives have they ever explored outside of Oceanside, even if it was close to downtown.
"I would like to join you guys, can I, can I?!" Sam pleaded. He was always the excited one whenever there's action.
"I also wanna join, too." Ruby requested. "I want to learn how you guys do your job and face danger in the darkness."
"Could we tag along as well." said Margot while motioning to Bliss, Trevin, and Connor. "We don't have anything to do back home. I'm sure we could be of assistance, right guys?"
Ruby's friends all nodded in agreement.
Nessie also wanted to join as well. Mario and Luigi agreed to bring him in since he could be the vigilante pet if anything bad happened.
Luigi then faced Agatha and Arthur. "Would you two care to join us as well?"
"We'd love to, but I need to check how my customers are living in my house estates." answered Agatha.
"And I have to get started showing my new crew members how the bottle shop is going to go. Can you believe I already have 4 applicants. I can't thank you enough, my sweet tadpole." said Arthur, and she hugged her daughter, Ruby.
Then Agatha asked both Ruby and Sam to come over to her so she could tell them about the rules. "Alright you two, I want you to make good choices and listen to the Mario Brothers' rules often. Ruby, since you already know how to defend yourself, make sure you take proper care of Sam."
"Yes, mom." Ruby saluted.
Agatha then turned to Sam. "And Sam, make sure you don't goof around when the Mario Bros. are working. If they ask you for help, you do it. I also don't want you two fighting each other over who gets to help, so take turns alright?"
"Yes, ma'am." Sam saluted as well.
Mario then asked Ruby's friends. "Did you all four let your parents know about this?"
"Yep, our parents agreed to help you guys." Margot complied as everyone showed their iPhones to Mario, displaying "Yes," "Go ahead," "Help them," and "Good luck and take care."
When Agatha and Arthur drove back to Oceanside, the mayor asked his two plumber associates to open the lock and gave the bros the key to lock it when they're done. His plumbers and himself were in the mayor's car and made his final words.
"Okay, Mario Bros, I leave you and your assistants to fix our sewers and find the disturbance of those tremors. Oceanside and I are counting on you. Good luck." said John Steinberg, as he drove away.
Mario and Luigi assembled everyone in a front line, including Nessie.
Then Mario opened the van's rear compartment and pulled out a question block that grew the size of their van. The block was rectangular shaped and had two doors reading "in" and "out" with an icon of plumber clothing.
"Alright, everyone, once you enter the door, you'll get changed with plumber clothing." Mario instructed.
One by one, Ruby, Sam, her friends, and Nessie all went inside the changing room, and their regular clothing was switched with plumber overalls.
Ruby had a purple cap, green shirt, purple overalls, and dark-blue boots. Sam consisted of a red cap just like Mario, a red shirt and overalls, and dark-red boots. Margot was wearing a scarlet cap, red shirt, navy-blue overalls, and brown boots just like the Bros. Bliss wore a green cap, white shirt, black overalls, and black boots. Trevin had everything black, just for the shirt being dark-red. Lastly, Connor consisted of a blue cap, yellow shirt, blue overalls, and cyan-purple boots.
For Nessie, he came out with only a light-blue vest and teal overalls. He evenly had a leash with Mario-themed patterns and a key chain with the Gillmans' logo. Additionally, his leash glowed, along with his body..
"Why is Nessie glowing like that?" asked Sam.
"Nessie has some features where he is immune to hazards and traps. A long time ago, we visited an island full of Yoshis, and they had a dog named Poochy. They said Poochy could not get hurt by anything." Mario answered.
"Lucky." said Sam.
"What's a Yoshi?" asked Connor.
"It's a friendly dinosaur about the size of us." Luigi responded.
"Now here comes the best part." said Mario.
He opened the van's compartment again and pulled out a specific block illustrating a black-colored hammer. He made the block float and punched it several times, and came out with several hammers.
"We don't know who or what is causing those tremors, so we need to prepare and defend ourselves if anything happens." Mario instructed as he handed everyone their hammer.
Everyone took their time to test it out, and they seemed prepared for the occasion.
"Oh yeah, now I'm 50% more awesome! No one can stop me!" Sam exclaimed.
"Take it easy, little bro." said Ruby.
"Woo hoo hoo hoo, this is going to be a blast!" Margot agitated.
"I can't wait to punish my victims with this weapon." said Bliss while catastrophizing. Mario and Luigi wondered what that was all about.
"Sweet, now this is just like being in a video game!" Trevin shouted while swinging his mallet.
"I'm cool with this." Connor replied while inspecting his hammer.
"Connor, you look splendid." said Ruby dreamily, while Sam found it disgusting.
Nessie looked at everyone and barked happily.
Mario signaled everyone in single file and made his announcement.
"Ahem, welcome kids to your first day as helpful assistants in the Super Mario Bros. Plumbing service. Today, all of you are gonna learn how to fix certain drainpipes and make sure they're closed tight. You'll evenly learn how to move around and use your hammers whenever an enemy pops out." Mario addressed.
Everyone felt enthusiastic about what they're going to learn.
"Once we enter the sewers, our job has officially begun. Make sure you stay with us, and we shall instruct you on your next tasks." said Luigi.
"Yes, sirs!" Everyone saluted while Nessie barked and stood firmly.
Once the group had all their equipment, they followed the Mario Brothers, and off they entered the sewer entrance. Let's hope they can get the job done and come back in one piece.
That is all, Chapter 9 is finished. In the next chapter, they enter the sewers, and the group will be divided into two because of so many drainpipes being damaged. Apparently, there are suspicious enemies stopping them from doing their job. Will they succeed in finding the source of this? Leave your reviews and see you next time!
